10 Best Underrated Games You Might Have Missed in 2023
3. Goodbye Volcano High. For some people, the end of High School felt like the end of the world. Goodbye Volcano High juxtaposes that feeling with a group of Dinosaurs trying to survive their final year of school while a giant meteor heads toward Earth. You play as Fang, who is stuck navigating the end of school, friendships, dreams, and the world. Playing through Goodbye Volcano High almost feels like watching an afternoon cartoon with its beautiful animations and quirky humor. You will make choices throughout the game that affect your relationships, providing you with scenes that vary depending on how close your group is before the end of it all. The soundtrack is another highlight, full of melancholic tunes that sound like they belong on a Phoebe Bridgers B-Side.

I WRITHE in PAIN thinking about the most UNDERRATED VR GAME OF ALL TIME the under presents. Guys. Guys guys. If you have any VR check if it’s in your store I swear the most wonderful multiplayer vr game I’ve played. The world-building is so charming and the character design is delightful, and the mechanics have given me HOURS of fun. There’s no talking, and only hand gesturing to speak and it’s so intimate and it’s given me great friends and human connection through small actions.
I highly HIGHLY recommend looking into the game if you can, you will NOT regret it this game is soooooooo criminally underrated.
EVEN IF YOU DIN’ HAVE A VR REBLOG THIS!!! THIS IS AN INDIE GAME AND I WANT IT TO GET ALL THE POSSIBLE SUPPORT T CAN!

Omg! I just finished playing cemetery Mary! I absolutely love it! What is your favorite ending?
Yesss! More Cemetery Mary fans! It’s catching on! It’s clinically underrated but we can change that!
Anyways, my favorite endings is Crowvens good end and the true end ofc! (I’m a little biased cuz Crowboy is my favorite except for Mary, and the first route I did) Though Reginald’s good ending was also good! It’s been a while I think I’m saying the right ones lol. I’ve been meaning to replay it!

So there's this underrated game I think people would enjoy.
Tumblr media
NSR/No Straight Roads
It's like if Jet Set Radio was a beat em up platformer.
Boppin' tracks (seriously they slap), fun characters, and an interesting commentary on the impact of people's opinions and the consequences acting out on those opinions without gaining insight on others perspectives.
The most popular track seems to be Sayu, one of the bosses.
youtube
My fav is another, but I won't say for the sake of spoilers.
But yeah, check it out if you get the chance. (Just don't get the Switch version, trust me!)

The DEBUG Indie Game Awards 2024!
The DEBUG Magazine is celebrating indie games everywhere by hosting its own game awards ceremony!

For the most part, Legend of Legaia’s graphics are very charming. I prefer the look of the battle models to the wandering-about-towns models but it’s similar to Final Fantasy VII in that regard. So, no big.
However, the cartoony (by choice) and clunky (by hardware/software capabilities) models really do some of the plot’s darker elements a disservice.
Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t played the game but is thinking about it…..
The Conkram part of the story? Super dark and would be creepy as hell with modern day graphics and more realistic models. Noa (and CO) rolling up into the town where she’s been told her parents are to find not just them but anyone still alive is actually fused with a monster that has taken over the town?
The pulsing walls, the intentionally unappealing color palette, everything. Especially the moment where the soldiers who are guarding the basement (and are basically conjoined because of the Seru that has taken over the town) realize the queen said you could pass and they split themselves. The rest of the NPCs will still talk to you as long as the town is still there. They don’t, once they do it.
Shit like that is impactful anyway, but with modern visuals? It’d be wonderfully awful.
I know the game wasn’t nearly popular enough to warrant a remake—probably not even a digital remaster, sadly. (Legaia 2 being a dumpster fire didn’t help). But damn. It would be awesome.

Small fandoms/Games I like (*Ranting!)
If you don't feel like reading about a bunch of non-sense, don't bother reading!
I swear, whenever I find something really freaking awesome, it always ends up being a small fandom or just a not very well known one (Not talking about TF2 and Portal. They're a lot more well known compared to what I'm about to rant about) I'm talking about Genesis Noir and McSM (Minecraft: Story Mode). seriously. Such good games but then the fandom is almost dead or not very many people know about it.
Like, come on! Genesis Noir is AMAZING, but I'm sure many many people will most definetly argue about that, and that's because people are totally gonna think it's boring (Which seeing it in some peoples point of views, it's understandable). BUT, it's got amazing characters, somewhat interesting story and AMAZING puzzles! The puzzles frustrate me but brings me in enough for me to actually enjoy trying to complete it. Not just that, but the character designs are lovely! And the game itself is just..... Art! I am IN LOVE with the art! The music AND the visuals! Now for McSM. Oh my freaking god, this game has made me go freaking feral. One, it's not being sold/made anymore and it took me FOREVER to find it again! Two, it WAS on Netflix but then (of course) it's not on there anymore! I would also rant on about how much I both love and hate Netflix but this rant is already getting a bit too ridiculously long.
McSM's fandoms freaking dead by the time I actually manage to sit, enjoy, and actually understand the story itself. Although the game is a little glitchy at times (It's audio sometimes being late and there being very long pauses when I'm pretty sure there isn't supposed to be one in certain scenes) but staying to see how the story plays along is WORTH IT!! I also really freaking love these damn characters, especially the Order of the Stone characters! Very cool personalities and nice outfits! Basically what I'm trying to say is.. these games are both underrated and/or have a dead/dying fandom, and it's making me sad and mad. Thank you for reading.
(*Also, would this count as a rant? I looked up the meaning of rant and it's shouting and yelling about stuff and I'm not necessarily yelling, I'm just saying a bunch of random stuff I was thinking about. So I have no clue wth this would be.)
