I am definitely not the first person to joke about how many Shens there are in danmei, but it does strike me as very funny that out of the Seven Seas line up, we currently have 4-5 protagonists/love interests with the surname "Shen." And then that sparked a question... just how many Shens are there in danmei?

So here is my request. If you have a danmei Shen not included on this list, please reblog or comment with his name and book. The only requirements are that he has to be one of the leads, and his surname has to be Shen*. Extra data, such as the character used for his name, is also welcome. It is worth acknowledging that sometimes it may be unclear whether or not a character should be counted as a Shen; in that case, I will put it to a vote. Once we have all the necessary data, we can create the first (at least to my knowledge) comprehensive database of Shens.

*submissions with the given or courtesy names Shen will get an honorary mention.

Guinegate Sword – Windlass

The Guinegate sword is both a remake and an upgrade to the older, classic Guinegate sword from Windlass Steelcrafts. Reproduced after a beautiful example of a gothic arming sword sold at auction, the blade benefits from the latest techniques and technology that Windlass has for tempering and treating their steel and the sword comes with a fine scabbard complete with a sword belt ready for wear. The blade is forged from tempered 1065 high carbon steel and its great amount of distal taper and unique blade geometry of a thick, raised hexagonal cross section at the base gives the blade great rigidity. The crossguard and pommel are gorgeously polished brass and the grip is smoothly polished bone.

The scabbard is crafted from thick and durable leather and the fittings are crafted from polished brass to match the sword. The sword belt is crafted to match and is completed with intricately detailed fittings.

Maximilian I of Habsburg was a great lover of arms and armor; he even designed some elaborately fluted armor that has since been named for him. More impressively, he was never one to hold back when a good fight came his way. In 1479, during the War of Burgundian Succession, King Louis XI invaded the Burgundian lands. He was met by the Burgundian Infantry and Archduke Maximillian, who fought on foot with his infantry rather than riding with the cavalry as was the custom for high-ranking noblemen. In the short, bloody battle, the French fled and Maximilian came off victorious. His valor at the Battle of Guinegate inspired us in the naming of this beautiful sword.

French An XI heavy cavalry troopers sword with the 1816 modifications; the blade re-profiled to have a spear tip and the new model scabbard.

The blade is marked AP with the revolutionary lector bundle stamp. It is believed that blades marked in this manner were sourced from non-state owned manufacturers and this is a controllers mark to show that it had passed testing.

The second sword is the Dutch m1814 No.3 heavy cavalry troopers sword that is a close copy of the French An XI. When the Dutch declared independence from France in 1813, her army retained large numbers of French equipment including the An XI.

It is unknown when the m1814 entered service, some say that they were available as early as 1815 and were used at Waterloo, but it is equally likely these were French swords in Dutch scabbards. Most of the remaining examples, when they are marked, have a date in the 1820s stamped into the ricasso.

This sword does not have such a date stamp. practically there isn’t a lot of difference between the two swords, the measurements are much the same and the variations are mostly cosmetic, such as more turns of the grip wire, the lack of a furrell on the Dutch sword and changes to the guard shape.

Interestingly the m1814 No.3 retains the hatchet tip, well after the French changed.

went home and got my tpb of the iron fist comics and I am back on my lin lie bullshit. thinking about his hands and the shards again and the amount of fine motor control he's having to build back up. and then he just jams a whole bunch more of the shards into his arms. like.

he's really concerned about his duty, isn't he. keeping the sword away from chiyou's demons. keeping the tomb sealed. maybe he thought he was going to get a break. the sword was shattered, he was dead. no more duty for him.

and instead he gets another duty. he's the iron fist now. immortal weapon, protector of k'un lun. oh and he's also still beholden to the whole fu xi thing. the sword has literally become a part of him. he cannot separate himself from his duty because it's literally embedded and tattooed in his skin. at least this time, when he presses the remaining loose shards into his arm, he's choosing it.

and he worked so hard, too. he just relearned how to wield a sword, how to hold chopsticks, how to write. but he's confronted with his duty and in a heartbeat he decides, fuck it, he's not letting chiyou get the sword. by any means necessary. it's his responsibility.

ANACHRON

n. a terrorist organization that under the guise of pushing humanity forward in the name of science and progress kidnaps scientists for a. their research and b. for manpower and brainpower to fuel their own projects.

Operating in the shadows, ANACHRON first set its eyes upon Shin Seonghun after he became a well-known figure within the time-traveling field. Initially posing as a potential benefactor for his research, ANACHRON quickly turned to their usual harsher means when Seonghun refused the offer to work for them.

Out of fear for the safety of their two sons, Myungsuk and Myungdae, Seonghun and his wife, Shin Chaeryeong moved the family to a remote part of Bristol, Great Britain. However, they wouldn’t remain hidden for long, for after a few years of peace, ANACHRON found them and kidnapped Seonghun and Chaeryeong, leaving the children to fend for themselves.

In the grasp of ANACHRON, Seonghun was forced to work on their projects and though he loathed the organization and feared for the safety of his wife ( and when ANACHRON took him, Myungsuk ), he found ANACHRON’s resources and help on time travel to be rather fruitful, much more than any other progress he had done before. However, much like the other scientists, he longed to be freed and had his wife and his child used to keep him in line. However, because he turned out to be one of their most competent scientists and needed him, Chaeyeong realized that ANACHRON couldn’t ever hurt either her or Myungsuk.

Knowing she had at least some kind of immunity, Chaeryeong sowed the seeds of rebellion and discord amongst the other captives. Under Seonghun’s nose, she and the other captives planned an uprising, one that would not only set them free but also bring ANACHRON to the light. However, during the uprising, a gas leak spilled, and in a sacrifice to save the others, Chaeryeong stopped the spill but also succumbed to an illness triggered by the gas leak. Several of the captives managed to escape, including Myungsuk, but ultimately, ANACHRON remained in tact.

Seonghun was devastated by not just Chaeryeong’s death, but also the disappearance of Myungsuk and at his most vulnerable, gave into the grief. He turned to his work to cope and from the kidnappee, he became the kidnapper. Leaning further into his work, he worked his way up the ranks in ANACHRON until he was the leader. With the organization in the palm of his hand, Seonghun repurposed its main goal ANACHRON to time travel.

ANACHRON still operates in the shadows, but thanks to Seonghun’s skillful maneuvering, they’ve also become a benefactor of sorts for many businesses and even non-profits. Many of these businesses are involved with white-collar crime, but many dips into crimes of other kinds as well. In exchange for money and resources, ANACHRON grants its partners legal immunity via connections with the courts, the police, and the government. Known for bribery of all kinds.

As a part of their philanthropist label, ANACHRON pours a lot of money in scientific research of any kind...they support scientists ( and professors too ) in their research via funding.

Still kidnapping whomever they think they’ll need for their work along with the kidnappee's families....ANACHRON has found that kidnapping more is better...specifically for the scientists, threatening to sell their loved ones into organ trafficking really makes them eager to work.

The businesses and non-profits ANACHRON supports also supply these victims. Either that or if the debt is not paid or an order is not followed, ANACHRON can and will start taking employees too....:/
