I feel like engineer reader would have a very big cabin in the woods that was passed down through there family as well as probably a some amount of political power because only children of engineers or high up politicians can become engineers that can fix the androids and reader fixing big name androids like robin and “proper disposing of them when they malfunction they get paid a hefty amount money. Also how are the androids made are they like boothill and dead humans turned into androids
Androids are not dead humans in my AU. Androids are full machines that look like humans and take after the characteristics of humans depending on their programming!
Also yes, the Engineer herself is a very respected and well known Android fixer. Shes canonically very wealthy because of all the money she is paid by customers to fix Androids, and she’s also one of the few Engineers in the entire city who is trusted enough to work on famous Androids like Robin and IPC members.
I imagine her shop isn’t exactly in the middle of the woods though, but it’s a bit secluded from the city within a heavily guarded laboratory. She is protected by the city itself as she is an extremely valuable asset in the Android manufacturing industry, so if she were to go missing or get killed, it’d be a huge problem for the city.

Robotic Improvement Mechanic (Mechanic Alternate Class Feature)
Tumblr media
(art by Varguy on DeviantArt)
A funny thing about robots is that, regardless of their level of sapience, repairing them, or even modifying them, is relatively simple since they don’t have to usually worry about things like shock, blood loss, or rejection. The potential for machine modding is so interesting that there have been several video game franchises and toy lines (including model hobbyists) centered around cobbling together robots from parts to make all sorts of creations. From Custom Robo to the customizable Rock-em Sock-em Robots action figures of the late 90’s early 2000’s, to the entirety of Gunpla.
Now, Starfinder already has the drone option for your mechanic characters giving you an option for having your own customizable robot buddy, but what if your character is a robot?
Whether they are androids, SROs, holograms, or even obscure robotic sapients like amrantahs and trinirs, there is nothing stopping a mechanically-minded robotic being from turning their expertise to modifying themselves.
This can be for several reasons, anything from defying the expectations put on them by their base chassis to practical modifications for their job. This is supported in the fluff of the setting too, with SROs in particular often barely resembling their original form when they awakened to sapience, and both SROs and Androids have options for installing bonus equipment into their bodies. It only makes sense that they and other machines would take this further, modifying themselves at they see fit.
And with that, let’s get into it!
Essentially, this option replaces the normal AI that mechanics work with for applying drone mods directly to yourself, granting yourself extra powers. Your body is treated as a specific done chassis for the purpose of prerequisites, but otherwise you are free to pick not just mods, but also feats drawn from the list of those available to drones, with the only exceptions being any mods that do not make sense for you to have, such as the drone providing medical aid to their owner, or transforming into a wearable apparatus for said owner, or any mod that would put you out of commission for using it, like the one that dumps your energy reserves into an electrical attack that renders the drone unpowered. As the mechanic gains mastery, they can change out their mods and feats as well.
This option is super simple, granting the player drone mods instead of their pet, but it is extremely flavorful and appropriate for any robotic playable species. You can pretty much treat these mechanics as almost pseudo-evolutionists, adding mods alongside augmentations to add abilities and enhance their bodies towards their build as needed. Want to wield multiple heavy weapons at once? Load up on weapon mounts. Want gadgets for every situation, load up on utility mods and augments, and so on!
The entire vibe of this option being about the character deciding for themselves what they want to look like and be able to do speaks heavily to transgender and transhumanist themes, and I can see a lot of folks exploring themselves through playing a robotic character exploring their own identity. Or maybe you just wanna be a cool robot with a plasma gun built into your arms. Either or both is good.
Survivors of the Rustracket tribe tell tales of how their former chief’s “new killbot” suddenly went on a rampage, slaughtering them and stealing their best scrap to incorporate into their own body. The goblins want revenge and are willing to pay others to get it, but keen-eyed hunters will notice evidence that the machine has been stripping away perfectly good armor and replacing it again and again, as if testing what appearance it likes. Perhaps there is more to this machine than a mechanical monstrosity?
Already a rarity as an android built to resemble an ijtikri, Valence-34 has never felt satisfied with their cephalopodic form, and has taken to modifying themselves repeatedly, to the point their employer is becoming concerned. She has called for a specialist in android psychology, who has hired the party to ferry them their.
Wheeler the SRO has been bartender and part-time mechanic for the Kalia Jo, a spacecraft turned orbital flotilla bar for decades now, doing odd-jobs to keep the ramshackle station of cobbled-together ships running in his rusty, antique chassis. None realize, however, that this is not his original job, nor his original form, as he was once an assassin robot before awakening.

Commission for @synthetic-witch of of her Star Trek Adventures character: Lt. J.G. Teya, a Bajoran Android, c.a. 2380.
Teya is a Bajoran-made android based on the work of Noonian Soong, developed in secret by Bajoran scientists during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. She was discovered shortly after the end of the Dominion war, arriving on Bajor in a stolen shuttle, her creators nowhere to be found. She quickly became the subject of much fascination, particularly from the Vedek Assembly. They determined that this being, a marriage of both scientific and artistic creation, had a strong pagh, and her consciousness was seen as a gift from the Prophets themselves. Teya has an inquisitive and earnest personality, a strong love for the arts (particularly of the martial variety), and a desire to discover the value of being a synthetic person, distinct from biological organisms. In order to learn more about herself and the universe at large, she elected to join Starfleet. She has recently been assigned to the USS Cassandra, a Miranda-class ship whose mission is to serve as a technical testbed for cutting-edge technologies.
alt Lower Decks style version below the cut:

I actually did the Lower Decks style first. I didn't plan to make as many changes as I did to the rendered version--it was just going to be rendering on top of this solid color one, but I had some fun making all the changes, like making the uniform look more like the ones from SNW: Those Old Scientists. And more realistic eyes meant I could really get those data-style irises!

TEAM FORTRESS MIKU
Sometime back in November/December me and a friend (@kryptid-kitten) decided to go a bit insane and came up with a concept for a 10th class. The pop diva herself Hatsune Miku plopped right into TF2. We were going to come up with an actual moveset but motivation stagnated for a while and we just forgot, I was meant to upload this back in January! Nevertheless it's here now and if anyone wants to they are free to do whatever with the concept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh here's also a little description that was co-writ :] Arriving from the 90s, the pop idol of the new decade Hatsune Miku stumbles her way through time accidentally all the way back to the 1960s due to a slip up from an engineered mercenary and his gang of machines. Waking up in the middle of a battle field in a state of confusion before being clobbered and blacking out once again. The Engineer soon found the poor lass he had unwillingly flung into hell and dragged her back to BLU's base to assess her damage and patch her up as best they could. Unfortunately Medic was all out of spare apparatus for Miku's missing eye and vocal chords so in an act of pure genius he paired up with Engineer and turned to the best case scenario any sane man could do. Cybernetics! When coming to, Miku had found herself face to face with a pair she'd learn to grow close with in her never ending treck to find a way back home to her time. But for now while she's more stuck than a rubber chick in a pickle jar, Miku joins the cycle of RED and BLU's tirade equipped with the power of the sound of the new future on her side.

isnt it crazy that someone can make a completely legal app for ios but if apple doesn't want it in its app store because of lol lmao reasons you have to then go through a gazillion loops just to get this one app and also millions of people buy apple's products because they don't see the problem with an operating system that fully controls what you can or can't have on your device and also has several other major problems. insane

Quick Trick Operative (Operative Alternate Class Feature)
Tumblr media
(art by YupaArt on DeviantArt)
And we’re back with yet another uber-simple alternate option for the operative! Be prepared, there’s one more after this.
We’ve established before that some operatives would rather do other things than move fast, so it only makes sense that simple options like this would replace that ability, and this time, it has to do with the trick attack itself.
The trick attack, which is analogous to the sneak attack of the rogue but having different mechanics, is the iconic attack ability of the operative. It has it’s share of problems, but one that some complain about is the fact that aside from being able to move as part of it, it takes your full-round action to do, more or less limiting you to either dealing extra damage and nothing else and being able to do other actions in addition to attacking, such as using certain items, and so on.
This alternate option seeks to correct that by allowing you to do a trick attack with a standard action instead, with a new stipulation, but we’ll see that soon.
Again, like yesterday’s entry, this could either be personal preference or a differing philosophy of being an operative, one where flexibility and a steady hand are favored over mobility. So let’s take a look!
The alternate ability is exceedingly simple here. Shortly into their careers, these agents can perform other minor activities while performing a trick attack as long as they do not move, effectively taking a standard action as long as their movement action is used for something other than movement.
Much like yesterday, this alternate option is very simple, but effective. Being able to use your move action and still trick attack is a major boon, especially if you’re a gadgeteer build that uses a lot of items, or want better efficiency with reloading a weapon with a low capacity. Honestly the bigger question might be asking why someone would want the vanilla option (mostly melee operatives that need to close quickly and outmaneuver foes).
Again, there’s not a lot of roleplaying advice I can offer on a character that only has such a minor difference compared to other operatives. I suppose they may prefer ranged combat over melee, and have opinions about that. Certainly they would be slightly less athletic than other operatives.
A fancy dining party is interrupted by a crossbolter bolt shattering the window and nearly imbedding itself in the neck of the planetary governor. Everyone takes cover, but the attacker is clearly an efficient reloader, firing again and again. It falls on the party to corner and apprehend this assassin before one of their shots finds it’s mark.
Many shimreen warriors of various disciplines prefer melee combat as it makes use of their innate ability to channel energy, but not Kevrons. Instead he prefers to fight from a distance with a steady stream of precise shots. Even his choice of weapon is curious, preferring projectile weapons to the energy weapons favored by many shimreen.
The party defeated the android assassin sent by the Pilgag Crime Family weeks ago, but the Pilgags are never one to waste a good body. Refitted and reanimated, the mechanical murderer has returned as scrap-enhanced horror known as a razordoll, forgoing all precision they were known for in life for manic, murderous violence.
