I don't know why, but when I look at the rise of indie animation, I can't help but see quite a few parallels to the rise of indie gaming a decade ago. And I really do believe we're only just getting started.

Y'all have to remember that indie gaming rose to prominence not just because of the games and the people who made them. It was also because of the complacency and greed that plagued the gaming industry (and still does to this day) that inspired people to invest in these artists and their projects! Now look where indie gaming is today!

And while it is extremely disappointing to see the animation industry in a similarly dire state (with all the layoffs, AI, cancelled projects and whatnot), there are also many reasons to be hopeful. Because I think it will inspire people to invest their time and money away from these greedy companies and give it to those who actually respect the medium of animation!

Who knows? Maybe in the near future, when indie animation is even more of a juggernaut than it is now, indie animation fans will look back on titles like Lackadaisy, Ramshackle, and Murder Drones with the same reverence indie game fans give to titles like Fez, Braid, and Super Meat Boy.

What more can I say? I'm excited for what lies on the horizon! And I know y'all are gonna keep blowing us away with all the talent and creativity y'all keep demonstrating time and time again.

hey while i'm on the "post about artist collectives" train, might as well talk about my indie animation studio -3-

looking for interested folks for DHJ! there's no skill requirement, and while you don't get paid, you do get to work on all parts of the animation pipeline in a semi-professional environment :o) and if you've always wanted to learn animation, i teach people!

our current short is about a baby star's adventure through space, called starbaby! we're in the boarding process rn <3

currently rlly looking for people who would be really motivated to work on this as an ongoing thing, shoot me a message if you're interested <3 work is limited to a cut per week, so max drawings you'd be doing would be 10-ish (and only lines OR color, not both).

Nothing makes me more mad with animation at the moment than animators and writers doing their best to bring a change in their movies and shorts and genuinely working hard to deliver beautiful, inclusive stories in which they pour their diverse, queer hearts, and 80% of the time even if it took them 3 years in the making, the executives of their studio decide to not allow them the same promotional budget that their other projects because it's out of the mold so those movies and shorts would would have been life-changing to so many people are never heard of

It was an honor to do practice work at an actual animation studio so early in my studies. I got to do cleanup and a bit of color and you can see me on the end credits as Теодора Шашић. We finished work on this short last spring.

Since then the studio had to change location due to money related problems. Just a reminder to support local artists always, especially as AI slops rage all over the internet. Real artists with real work need more support than ever ♥️
