two years ago when i decided to start actively trying to learn animation, i thought about redoing an animation meme everytime i felt like i had made huge progress in animation.

so, here is the three attempts of a Jschlatt Panic Station improvement animation meme:

attempt one: it was the first one i did, as the name suggests, though at the time i was animating under the idea i was actually gonna animate it fully, so its just rough guidelines and such. its very starter, but i really wanted the character to move fluidly

attempt two: this was maybe a day or week after the first one, and i did it because i got thru that fundamentals of animation video i saw and wanted to show it in action. since that was when i came up with the idea of the animation improvement thing, i decided to just make very rough sketches and mainly animated via rigging (tho using the fundementals like squash and stretch)

attempt three: this was about late 2021, or sometime around when i fell out of the MCYT fandom. it was inspired by sad-ist's animations of schlatt and wanted to get the white house feel of it. i never finished cause i had school at the time and online school hit hard

I've never given any spesific timeline or date when a part gets done, simply because I don't know how long it takes. So I can't give you that answer. They get done when they're done ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I update my progress here on my blog on weekly basis so people can get a slight idea where I'm at and letting them know I'm working on it. With that said, it's only natural my work progress can be hindered by illnesses, travels and work stuff, but it can also be speeded up by holidays or motivation bursts.

Please be patient, these take a lot of time to finish and a lot of work and effort from me. Try to find something else to focus on while you're waiting :)

Sometimes you just have one of those moments where the progress we've made as a culture get thrown into stark relief. You look at something and go "Holy shit, that would never have happened when I was a kid."

Today, I had one of those moments when I realized that the teenage boys I'm working with are just. genuinely, openly enthusiastic about going to Build-a-Bear for their outing.

These are sixteen and seventeen year old boys! They just had a whole conversation about what to name their "cute", mostly new squishmallows! They're genuinely excited that they're going to Build-a-Bear this weekend and asking other kids to pick up specific accessories for them!!

Holy shit, that never would've happened when I was 16. None of the boys would have dared to be visibly interested - and neither would most of the girls! There would have been a million gay jokes and "Haha, you're a girl" jokes and "What are you, a baby?" jokes. Teenagers weren't even supposed to care about anything back then!

Less than 15 years later, and I'm watching three 17 year old boys treat all that as not even worthy of comment.

So let's call that a reason for hope. Even when the kids aren't alright, in some ways apparently they are alright. Go Gen Z, honestly. It's so lovely to watch you guys just openly doing and saying stuff that, when I was a teen, would've been a social death sentence.
