I do want to bring something to mind, and that is this katana in Carol's room.
Tumblr media
The reason I want to bring this up is that Asgore says a line while conveniently standing in front of it. "It sure is beautiful, isn't it...? ... this black shard."
This could imply that this katana is made of the same stuff as the black knife (and possibly whatever is the knight's "armour"), and it's notable that the knight uses dark/star element attacks (and thus would probably be a Dark enemy like the titans it resembles). The black shard (in its in-game version at least) has the SlayDark property, which does bonus damage against dark enemies (such as the titan, its spawn, and, presumably, the knight).
Now, if this katana isn't meant to be a red herring and is meant to be a black shard, this is potentially concerning as all fuck. Especially since we know Carol takes Undyne to the bunker sometimes, so regardless of whether you believe Carol or the knight is the spooky voice talking to Kris during chapter 4, Carol certainly knows there's something in that shelter (likely the knight/December).
We know Carol is (at best) potentially emotionally abusive (or at least overbearing) to Noelle, and emotionally manipulative at best with Kris. Putting all this together, I wonder if Carol is similarly abusive with the knight (likely physically if we consider the katana and this currently unused face sprite of Carol), or at least part of the reason the knight hides out in the bunker is due to Carol.
Tumblr media
As admittedly (darkly) hilarious as the mental image of this aurafarming harbinger of the apocalypse being beaten to submission by a Christmas-obsessed suburban weeb of a mother with a katana, this suggests Carol's abuse runs FAR, far deeper. Maybe she wasn't always this way, but whatever happened to Dess (died and got resurrected, lost her soul in a dark world, just being in the depths too long, got scattered across space and time gaster-style, got stabbed in the eye so hard she became a living dark fountain, etc...) caused their relationship to deteriorate.
If the knight IS the voice on the phone (for at least "don't forget...you promised...." line that ends chapter 4), the fact that this phone call specifically is only shown on the normal route (where the more certainly Carol's phone call is shown) is also telling. While I'm not sure if Carol's plan with Noelle is the weird route, and the fact Kris's phone starts in his pocket in the weird route ending as opposed to the ground could suggest Carol called Kris offscreen in the normal route, and Kris threw the phone on the ground in response, this does tell me that (whether Dess is intentionally emotionally manipulating Kris or not) whatever promise is made between the knight and Kris is certainly NOT whatever is going on in the weird route. Though this is admittedly speculative, considering the knight is Noelle's sister (who likely won't be approving of Carol's actions AT ALL).
Great to see you again, Brutalcritical!
You do have a lot of interesting ideas and theories! For me personally, it's hard to speculate on Carol's relationship with the Knight because there are so many things to factor in, questions to ask, and potential answers to said questions to consider.
If Dess is indeed the knight, as most have argued, then what is Carol's relationship with it?
Does she even know about the Knight? Does she know that it's Dess? Are they at odds with each other or are they collaborating with each other? Is Dess trying to foil her mother's plans or are they fulfilling it? Is Dess herself, or has she been brought back as a kind of half-alive husk of themselves, like Chara and Asriel were in Undertale? Does Carol have some sort of deal with Gaster that involves helping his experiment in return for bringing her daughter back?
Additionally, the fact that the phone caller in the Holiday mansion told Kris they would come over immediately after hearing that Susie got Dess's guitar muddies the waters significantly, as it suggests that the mysterious caller and Carol could be the same person.
Personally, I want to wait a chapter before I make my own speculations about it. I don't usually make fan theories unless I'm really confident about my evidence. It's not that I don't like talking about it or don't enjoy answering questions like this, because I really do!
It's just that my brand of autism likes to focus on details that are already present rather than theorize about things that could be present.
I'm more about extrapolation rather than speculation lol.
But hey, I still love answering these asks all the same.

Next time you see someone say that Krusielle won't be the endgame, just remember that they were saying the same thing about Lumity, and we all know how that turned out.

The fact that Kris HALVES THEIR OWN HP after crashing out in the Chapter 4 Weird Route may just be the most tragic thing in the entire Snowgrave Run, and that is truly saying something!!!!!!!!!
It really puts into perspective just how much of a toll our emotional, mental, and physical trauma has taken on them to the point where they were willing to harm themselves to the point where their own life was at risk. Keep in mind, the only reason that Kris even stopped in the first place was because Asgore interrupted, which implies that Kris had no intention of stopping at 10HP!!!
And that has the horrific implication that the reason they were so intent on attacking the soul despite the fact it would end their life... is that they WANTED TO END THEIR LIFE! Maybe all the damage they're doing to themselves isn't just because they think they deserve to be hurt for what we made them do to Noelle, but also because... they believe they don't deserve to live anymore, and that ending it all is the only way they can protect the people they love.

Is anyone else like really worried about what the deltarune fandom is going to do if Toby confirms Kris is aroace?
After watching what Hazbin hotel fans did to Alastor when the show confirmed they were asexual a year ago (and no, I still haven't forgiven them), it's a grim reminder that aphobia and ace erasure can linger and even metastasize even in fandoms of queer media.

As an aroace Krusielle stan, I'm gonna be totally chill with whatever direction Toby takes Kris's relationship with Noelle and Susie.
If it turns out that Kris has feelings for Susie and/or Noelle, then that's great because it means that my dreams of romantic Krusielle have come true!
If it turns out that Kris doesn't have any romantic feelings for either of them, then that's also great because a) Krusielle would still be just as canon (and just as special) if it was queerplatonic, and b) Kris not having romantic feelings for the girls would more or less confirm that Kris is aroace. And let's face it, utdr could totally use more canonical aroace rep!

If you were to ask me what the best Noelle moment is in Chapter 1 (and perhaps one of the most underrated Noelle moments period), it would be this scene here, which happens after you make Kris tell her that Susie is terrible.
When she hears about what Susie did to Kris, she's absolutely heartbroken because she not only cares about Kris and still treasures their friendship, but also because she believed that Kris had the best chance of being friends with Susie!
The way I see it, the fact that she considers Kris to be "special" indicates that she knows that there's something about Kris that could bring them and Susie together. It's no secret that Kris and Susie share so many personal traits and qualities that they're practically on the same wavelength as each other (I mean, there's a reason Krusie is such a popular ship). And because Noelle understands both Kris and Susie better than anyone, she knows that Kris and Susie would be great for each other, which is also why she reassured Kris that they would get along with her when they were partnered with her.
And not only that, we see her care for Kris demonstrated further when she asks if she can be partnered with Susie instead, not because she's got some weird thing being hurt by the girl she loves, but because SHE WANTS TO SAVE THE PERSON SHE CARES ABOUT FROM BEING HURT BY HER!!!
And they still wonder why Noelle is my favourite character.

I've been seeing some fan-comic that portray Dess in a more questionable manner (Commonly with the incident happened with Bunker and Kris)
So I have a question, what do you think of the possibility that Dess is more complex than we thought? Not a good role-model, Questionable Morals and perhaps... Selfish Agendas/Ideals?
Seems to align with Dess is the Knight theory, with how Knight has no care of the damage they're causing, such as slashing Tenna or summoning a Titan quite early.
What do you think? Of this... Dess is "not a very good person" theory?
I've never really thought of that! That's a fascinating idea!
Interestingly, the reasons I believe Dess isn't completely virtuous have less to do with tangible evidence within the game and more to do with the fact that it's something of a Toby Fox tradition not to make any character 100% good or 100% bad.
Yes. Kris, Noelle, and Asriel were close to Dess and were practically family. But then again, so were Asriel and Chara, and you saw how that turned out. Though I don't think they were a not-very-good sibling/friend like Chara was to Asriel (though, as I've stated again and again, Chara still treated him and expressed their love for him much better than Carol, and they're nowhere near as culpable for their wrongs as her).
As for what she does as the Knight (if she is indeed the Knight), I think that she's doing these awful things because she's in a very compromised position, much like Kris is in their quadruple-trucie with Gaster, the Player, the Knight, and Carol.

This scene. THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE. This is the moment that made me go "oh yeah, this movie understands Superman."
After the kaiju battle, you'll notice that when everyone is congratulating them, the Justice gang are walking about waving to everyone and giving a word from their sponsor, like a celebrity waving to a crowd of strangers as they walk down the red carpet.
Now contrast that with Superman! He doesn't just talk TO the people he saved, he talks WITH the people he saved. He converses with them! Embraces them. Checks up on them. COMFORTS THEM!!!!! These people are total strangers to him and yet he treats them like they were his dearest friends because that's how much he treasures each human being.
I know it may not seem like much, but this moment truly captures what makes Superman so special: he's not simply about saving humanity, he's also about CONNECTING WITH HUMANITY!

As much as I love episode 6 for developing Jax's character and exploring why he does the things he does, I love EVEN MORE how it does so without excusing the things he's done and the impact they've had, especially on Gangle.
As you can see clearly here, his constant bullying of Gangle has had a horrible impact on her mental health and emotional well-being, so much that she fears that she's going to do something terrible to her JUST BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T PARTNER WITH THE PERSON CONSTANTLY TORMENTING THEM!!!!
Jax has understandable (and even sympathetic) reasons why he's being hurtful to others, and it's clear that he's doing so because he's hurting himself and that his hurtful attitude is a facade to hide his own pain and insecurities. But while he certainly deserves a chance to heal from the hurt he's experiencing, that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be held accountable for the hurt he's inflicted!

I absolutely love this moment for what it does for Lois and Clark's characters and their relationship. It shows how their line of work leaves them with very different approaches to their lives and the world, and yet despite their differences, they still end up complementing each other rather than conflicting with each other!
Because she is a journalist, Lois is in a profession that requires her to be skeptical, inquisitive, and second-guessing to deliver people the cold, hard truth. But it's definitely not a flaw because that shrewdness and skepticism give her the power to see through and challenge the deceptions and manipulations of people like Lex Luthor and Vasil Ghurkos.
Contrast that with Superman, who, despite having to confront the same people as Lois, still aspires to see the best of humanity. Every human life has value to him, not just the people he saves, but also the people throws hands with to save others from. Hence why he tells Luthor to his face that he hopes he'll understand that being human is his greatest strength (even though Lex is hellbent on not having any humanity at all).
But even though it seems like their differing views put them at odds with each other, it actually makes them perfect for each other as Lois's skepticism helps Clark understand the world they're both fighting for, while Clark's optimism helps Lois appreciate it!

There are countless reasons I absolutely ADORE the Gangle and Zooble's heart-to-heart in episode 6, and this moment stands out to me the most because of all the subtle details that add to their characters and the emotional impact of this whole scene.
If you look closely, you'll notice that Zooble's hand lowers after Gangle asks if they had to make the choice to love themselves, too. This isn't because they suddenly aren't eager to help Gangle, but because hearing about her anxieties and struggles (and the question she posed to them) brought up their own anxieties and struggles. Thus, their hand lowers because they doubt they can overcome their struggles, and if they can't overcome their own struggles, how can they possibly help Gangle with hers?
So when Gangle takes their hand, it snaps them out of whatever state of doubt and worry they were in, representing how being together will finally give them both the strength and courage they need to overcome the similar hardships they face!
It's little details like this that really make this one of the best scenes in the whole series (and objectively speaking the best Abstragedy scene in the entire show)!
