wait tell me the dirt... why don't you like lucio? and the other team principals
I don't think you need a reason to dislike some people, sometimes you just don't vibe with them. I also tend to ignore team principals because they are just the face of the team and they do and act as they are told/the best way to protect the team's interest. Having said that, I do have a reason to dislike each one of them, even if they seem childish to other people.
Lucio Cecchinello: I just see his face and I want to punch him. It's mostly that when he is interviewed by DAZN Spain, and he told one thing, but like 10 minutes later he and the team were doing the opposite. Also, at the start of the pandemic Crutchlow made some racist comments (something about the pandemic having started because a Chinese wanted to eat a bat or not wanting to shake hands with fans from Asian countries because "they were carrying/spreading COVID" but shaking hands with other fans) and he defended him. I think people started to pull older stuff where Crutchlow had said/done other racist stuff.
Alberto Puig: you see, when I first heard about MotoGP was back in 2003-2005 and back then, Dani and Puig were tight and Puig did everything to protect Dani. I came back in 2020 just to see Dani having retired and Puig having taken over Honda and dragging Dani thought the mud. It was implied that Dani's biggest mistake was to cut ties with Alberto and that's what made Dani big, a legend and a World Champion (in 125cc and 250cc) was Alberto. Also, I don't like him because as Cecchinello, when he tells the journalist something in the middle of a session he then does the opposite. And he always seems mad and wanting to punch someone. Not everything about Puig is bad, he also let Lorenzo retired even if he had 1 more year with Honda, and he has never put pressure on the riders. And when riders have had a bad crash, and they feel like they are not at their best and will be dangerous on track despite being declared fit by the medical team, he let them not take part. He does understand riders and shields them as much as he can, but that doesn't make me like him.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with Boscoscuro and Gelete Nieto. They are Moto2 team principal of the SpeedUp and the Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp team respectively.
Luca Boscoscuro: in the 2020 season, he had Yari Montella and Jorge Navarro as his riders. Montella wasn't delivering the result he wanted, so he replaced him with Fermín Aldeguer. At first, it was said it was due to an injury/give time to recover from an injury after a bad crash, but when Fermín could not replace him, brought back Yari to push him away the next race. Technically, it was a mid-season (? more like the last 1/3) swap. He did the same with Fenati and Alonso, and apparently he had done the same in the past. If that's not enough, he gloats that his current line-up is under a tight contract for 3 years (not sure if it started last year or it's from this season onwards) and Alonso knew for like 2 races before it happened that he had a shot at the Moto2 seat because Fenati could be fired. And now, he is so proud of Alonso and it's shaming Fermín, but in Americas, after Alonso rode with leathers that were too small and caused pain/lost of sensibility on his forearms, he was praising Fermín and called Alonso stupid. Basically I don't like 2 face people, I prefer them to be mean face-to-face than do what he does.
Gelete Nieto: last year one of his riders had a pretty nasty crash and when he was asked the next day about the crash, his first reaction was to talk about the cost and the extensive work the mechanics had to repair the bike. Later he talked about the rider, but I didn't like his first instinct was to talk about the damage the team had instead of the rider. He was a rider, so I thought he would understand and be concerned about another rider. Another point is that he has no voice on whom are the riders on his team, it's all on Yamaha (not even Vale), and he shows preferences and implied that riders coming from Asia take more time and are worse than Spanish riders. He has put Manu on a pedestal, and he refuses to see past it.
Toto Wolff: I won't talk a lot because people have him on a pedestal, but basically the stress he put Bottas with the 1-year contract and the Monaco 2021 pit-stop saying it was Bottas fault for not pitting on the right spot. The poor decision he and the team took in 2021 during the championship fight. Giving Russell the 2nd Merc seat after punching another rider after a crash. Putting his riders in danger with a bouncing car because he refuses to admit he is wrong. The way he talks, uses and manipulates the media and fans... And basically the way fans adore him and excuses him. Talk about this with someone else changing his name to Horner, Steiner or Brown and people will riot.
Okay, this makes me sound like a hater, and that's not me. I also love some team principal like Aspar (and the combo he had with Borsoi and now with Nico Terol), José Angel Gutierrez Boé (BOÉ Team), Aurora Angelucci (not because she is a woman, it's because she is committed to her dream of having an all-female team on MotoGP and working towards it) and Davide Brivio when he was in MotoGP.

I would love to see a fic where Kal Skirata and his associates meet the Command Batch. (I'll write it myself. Eventually.)
The second Kal -- or any of them, actually, said something along the lines of, oh, I don't know, "Must be hard, working with a bunch a baby-stealers" or more Jedi-bashing shit like that, we all know how they'd react.
Cody: Listens for a moment, then politely sets off a riot.
Rex: "Okay, bitch, get over here."
Wolffe: There's a mass murder. How dare you insult his father?
Doom: Hits the speaker in the groin.
Neyo: "First off, FUCK YOU--"
Fox: "I want a Jedi! I don't give a fuck if they're baby-stealers, I need one!"
Bly: Strangles the speaker.
Bacara: He lets them talk for a while, laughs hysterically, and beats the shit out of them with his helmet. The only one allowed to be an acidic bastard toward his Jedi is him, goddammit! (If Ki-Adi is watching, he's touched by his Commander's display of affection.)
Gree: Proceeds to rip their reasoning apart with detailed fact-checking and citations. He has a slide show with dancing graphics.
Ponds: Gives them the glare his General gives to particularly enraging Separatists.
Monnk: Raises his middle fingers. Then he raises his middle toes.

Liam Lawson on F1 accessibility and Ollie Bearman:
“I would say maybe, it’s becoming more clear-it’s hard because obviously I don’t wanna just speak for myself but just using Ollie [Bearman] as an example-how potentially accessible formula 1 is for the younger sort of generation and us trying to step into it. I think in my experience it’s not so much driving the car but everything else that comes with Formula 1-the pressure, the media side of it the atmosphere-it’s very very different to what anything else we’ve raced. But the driver part of it sort of how accessible it is. I think from the simulator work and preparation that we do that someone like Ollie is able to jump into the car and be on the pace and do such a good job”
THIS is it!! This is what we’re saying! Liam and Ollie both performed superbly when given the opportunity to do so. It’s clear that the F1 car is manageable for someone making a quick jump from F2 or older F1 cars. When-in my experience-the reason teams have been hesitant maybe to bring in younger talent like Liam and Ollie is cause of the difference in the car. Liam and Ollie have both said that’s not true and they both did quite well through several tough races in Liam’s case like Singapore and Qatar.
It’s for reasons like what Liam says that we need to either push out some of the guys who aren’t performing at their level (*cough* Ricciardo *cough*) or open up the sport to more teams! If Andretti had gotten their bid accepted, Liam Lawson might not have to wait around for DR to get his head out of Chr*stian Horners ass and retire and he could have a seat for 2025. Cause until that happens, and until other teams make moves to push out their older competitors. Liam (and Ollie, sort of) can’t join F1.
And another problem this raises, is that either of them could have a seat next year. If teams weren’t so scared of missing out on the next Max Verstappen.
Toto Wolff practically has the seat reserved for Kimi Antonelli and he will do whatever it takes to either get it to him in 2025, or blow off that year to wait for Kimi in 2026. Meaning that Liam and Ollie would be left on their asses if either if them signed to Merc. And this isn’t hate to Kimi! This is simply a criticism of the teams only taking younger talent when they’re considered prodigious.
If they signed to a lower grid team like Haas-who we know are in tentative talks with Ollie-or Sauber or Alpine then they will underperform to their potential because the car they drive is shitty but they’ll be the ones blamed for it due to “lack of experience” and teams can continue to make the claim that the F2 to F1 jump is too big and the cycle repeats perpetually until it’s just not worth it and we the fans lose out on potential great talent. Even though drivers who have been in the sport for years can underperform in the same car and it’s fine!
It doesn’t make sense, truly, for them to not trust younger talent when Zak Brown and Mclaren have signed the youngest pairing on the grid, who after updates last year to the car, were pretty consistent with placing in the points and earned them several podiums.
Also, look at how much good the 2019 rookies ended up being for the sport. 3 childhood friends entered into F1, there were highs, lows, etc they each got their shot to prove themselves and now. One is working to rebuild a historic team, one is outperforming a 7 time champion (again no hate just observation) and one is considered to be apart of the team that can take the fight to RedBull and Ferrari
It just doesn’t make sense when young drivers get passed up even when they prove themselves in favor of relying on middling drivers who’s time in the sun have kind of passed on.
Anyway, I hope Liam and Ollie get a seat next year. I hope Kimi Antonelli does what’s best for him as a kid rather than what is best for his career. I hope Daniel Ricciardo gets kicked out mid season. And I hope the next time a team comes in trying to join F1, they can actually do it

After winning Singapore GP, Norris wants to win the Oppression Olympics against Mercedes boys. "Toto Wolff issues health update on Hamilton and Russell? Fucking hell, it’s tough for everyone! Why do they think that they’ve... [trails off] Everyone’s got heatstroke if they’ve got heatstroke”
Sign of a true champion. He's here to win it all.

I find it funny how Toto Wolff casually disrespects George Russell at times but threw a tantrum at light speed the moment Christian Horner or other teams tried to approach George Russell
Besides, he always says "George Russell will continue to be our driver" 🤨🧐🤨🧐 Lots of confidence there

//Rant//
I was just discussing about mercedes’ future and their priorities/decisions and it’s so fucking painful realizing that toto actually just doesn’t care about George?
If toto was going to support George in winning a WDC (like george is definitely CAPABLE of winning with the right car and support) toto wouldn’t have gotten a literal child rookie on the grid. Probably would’ve gotten someone with more experience within F1 itself if he even thought about the possibility of supporting George as a championship winning driver.
It irks me so much cuz George has so much potential and worked so hard to get here and he’ll most likely forever be Number 2 and a support driver in Toto’s mind.
Cuz les be real Toto is either: a) delulu and still has his hopes up for Max potentially leaving RB and joining merc or b) looking into a distant future where he’s trying to shape kimi up as the next wdc (with alllll the hype surrounding kimi from everyone saying he’s similar to a young lewis etcetc).
Makes me so fucking sad that the existing talented hardworking drivers are being overlooked just cuz the team principals think they’ll somehow strike gold with a new generation max verstappen.
This isn’t hating on Kimi jr. btw all power to him, i’m happy for the kid and i’ll support him. But even if i weren’t a George fan (which i am cuz the world hates me and wants us both to suffer) i’d still feel bad for George lol. Toto’s such a pos man. Fuck that guy. Feel free to disagree with me this is all just my opinion (as a very green f1 fan like i’m still super new to the sport so my understanding is surface level and more intuitive than analytical).

This week Toto not only said he liked Max raw or something like that, but now he's also defending Daniel taking the fastest lap from McLaren 😂
Max truly has this man wrapped around his finger, it's really inspirational to watch. May all who want find someone as down bad for them as Toto is with Max Verstappen.

I wish I could feel something about Rex's big speech to Wolffe, I really do. But this show just hasn't built up the themes of clone brotherhood at all and we haven't spent anywhere NEAR enough time with Rex and Echo during their mission to help save the clones and remove the chips in order to really feel like this scene meant anything.
Wolffe is being pretty reasonable here, he's clearly capable of recognizing Rex and holding back because he likes and cares about Rex, he puts his weapons away and tells his men to stand down, he listens when Rex speaks, he removes his helmet to meet Rex as an equal and assert his individuality, and even though he claims to believe the Empire would never turn on the clones, he DOES listen to Rex and seems to believe him about it by the end.
So there's no real reason to not bring up the chip, to try to get through to Wolffe by explaining that there's something controlling his thoughts. There's no obvious reason not to bring up Plo Koon and how THAT wasn't something Wolffe would've done before either.
But if, for example, this show gave an iota of a shit about clones and stories about them during this time period, we could've gotten whole episodes, whole ARCS that showed the dechipped clones figuring out ways to talk still chipped clones into letting them go, or ways to try to reason around the chip, things that would set it off again, etc.
It just feels really stupid to have these two characters that fans clearly care about in this scene that SHOULD feel like it has emotional stakes and an almost triumphant ending, and stick it in the middle of this show that hasn't spent more than like 5 minutes actually letting us get invested in the mission to save the clones. The only thing the narrative wants us to care about is OMEGA. Is Omega safe, is the Empire after her again, what's wrong with Omega, how is Omega going to escape this time, is Omega happy. And THAT story has shit all to do with whether characters like Wolffe get freed from the chip. Omega doesn't care. She could quite literally not care less about Wolffe and whether the chip in his head is keeping him chained to the Empire until he dies. Omega would HAPPILY leave Wolffe to rot in the Empire if it meant she got to go skip off to Refugee Island with her defective brothers and her dog and forget about everyone and everything else.
This scene just doesn't work because the only way it has any kind of emotional stakes is to bring in information and investment from a completely separate show (two if you count Rebels) in order to give it any meaning.s

about Those tags because i need to talk about your opinions but also am not sure on the tumblr etiquette of just ranting on ops post:
what do you think was the thinking process behind merc building the junior drivers on kimi?
i understand thinking kimi would become a good driver and should be invested in but building it up only for him seems insanity to me. mercedes surely has enough money to have a couple more drivers like ferrari and redbull so why cut paul aron (after what seemed like to me some good top3 championship results) and not even pick someone up so they could have options in case kimi needed more time or turned not to be what they hoped for?
No you’re totally right, it is insanity
Simply put, Toto Wolff kinda has an ego.
If you didn’t know, Kimi was discovered by the Minardi’s before he was even ten, who are also his managers. The Minardi’s got him in contact with Toto Wolff.
Toto has been in contact with Kimi, long before he ever joined the junior team. Kimi’s father would test Mercedes cars (not open wheel real cars) and the Wolffs and Antonelli’s were in pretty clear communication as to Where kimi would eventually go.
So he’s been watching this kid for years now and when he finally signs him (finally old enough to be signed) he keeps winning. Now, he’s got something to prove, that Merc can make drivers into greats, and he has generational talent in his team. Talent that he’s known since he was a child.
Money is no issue with Kimi. He is sponsored solely by Mercedes. While other teams (like Ferrari and Red Bull) have their drivers get their own sponsorships in order to pay for the racing fees with their academy paying a portion, Mercedes juniors - at least now that there’s only 4 of them - are all completely Mercedes funded.
Mercedes pays for everything Kimi wants to do in racing because they believe he’s that great of a driver. Because Toto tells them he’s that great of a driver. And then they see the results on track and are like “well that paid off let’s keep going with throwing money at him”
In Toto’s mind, there is no other option. Paul Aron is a great driver but he isnt the coach of Toto’s son’s karting team. Kimi is. Paul is good and fast behind the wheel but Toto didn’t watch him as a kid karting. He watched Kimi. Paul is frankly, F1 quality, but he didn’t have Giovanni Minardi whispering into Toto’s ear about how great the kid was when he was still in elementary school. Kimi did. That’s not a fault of Paul or Kimi’s it’s just the nature of how things worked out. Paul isn’t an option in Toto’s mind
And because Toto has deluded himself into thinking there’s no other option, and he’s quickly realizing that Seventeen Year Old still doing homework Kimi isn’t exactly ready. But he’s backed himself into a corner and he’s got too big of an ego to back out now.
So, he’s throwing Kimi into rigorous testing sessions and jumping him past F3 and telling the whole world he’s found the next whoever, and somehow somehow convincing the FIA to lower the superlicense age.
Toto Wolff’s massive ego has essentially caused all this imo. He saw a great driver several years ago. Was butthurt about losing Max to redbulll and decided to throw millions at this driver to try and just make the next Max himself. Hurting his other juniors in the process
(clarifying, i totally also think Kimi is a great driver, im a fan of his and I want to see him succeed. If his career is ruined by how Toto is fast tracking him, it’s Toto’s fault)

See Toto, the general incompetence and the stupid decisions are the reason why Max does not sign with your team.
Redbull is a well oiled team that very rarely does any mistakes and consistently does things that actually makes sense during a race.
And it's not a performance slump, there have always been shitty decisions and there have always been plenty of them. But before you were lucky enough to have a spaceship and the greatest of all time in top form driving it.
Crappy performances like today's against George are embarrassing in a way that not even Ferrari or teams fighting for midfield do.
You have the best duo on the grid, you have already lost one driver because you have failed him for next year. Instead of chatting here and there try to improve the shit you are doing and give your only remaining driver an environment at least above the threshold of decency.
This is what you expect from a team that has won eight consecutive WCCs and wants more. Either produce a new spaceship capable of plugging the holes in the woeful strategy or get a grip.
Max will not come to a team with a midfield strategy. And he is right

Been wanting say this for a while:
I know that it’s a team game, but honestly Toto needs to answer for the performance for the last 3 years.. because I don’t know what decisions if any he’s been making. The car is getting worse, and they are continually being out developed, and have wasted a seriously strong driver paring. I don’t hold out much hope for Mercedes future tbh.
