(From research but also from my own workings with him. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with him. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)
Tumblr media
Anubis/Anpu/Inpu/Inpw (and some other spellings depending on where you look) :
-He is the jackal headed Egyptian god of mummification, funerary rites and a fierce protector of tombs and places where people are buried.
- a lot of stories have him as either the son of Nephthys and Set or the son of Nephthys and Osiris. I personally go by the mythology where he is the son of Osiris, then taken in by Aset and raised as an adopted son after the death of Osiris. He is fiercely loyal to his adopted mother and his father. As well as supportive of his half brother Horus (Heru-sa-Aset)
Tumblr media
What working with him is like
-He is a sort of Psychopomp deity for dead souls. Also in my experience can help bring you into meditations with other spirits safety (he’s guided me to a few of the other deities I work with now)
- He is a fierce protector. Big guard dog energy. Doesn’t usually have a huge temper until something threatens him or a follower of his.
-Most of the time he’s a very calm and patient deity. He will give space when you need it, and also be around when you need him too. He tends to put in the effort that you do. But if you can’t put in much effort he’s patient (just quieter maybe if you’ve backed away from him first)
- He is usually the first one to jump in to help when I’m going through something emotionally rough. It could be because he is my patron but I do feel like he is the type of deity to want to be there for, and comfort his followers/devotees.

How to know if he’s reaching out to you?
Best way to know is to confirm by tarot or your clairsenses if you have any. Or candle flame reading/other forms of divination.
If you’re looking for signs he’s popping up (this is rather morbid but so it goes with the god of mummification and decay) he tends to send roadkill to me. If you see a lot of extra roadkill on a drive to work/a regular route that isn’t usually there. That could be a sign. (I like to ask him to help guide their souls somewhere nice whenever I see roadkill)
Tumblr media
I think he’s an excellent deity for beginners and if you feel called to him I’d say go for it! I started with a simple candle dedicated to him and went from there!

Sept 13 - Kemetic Lighting Candles for the Dead
Tumblr media
Today is the Kemetic (ancient egyptian) day for lighting candles or fires for the dead. It's a time of quiet reflection where prayers and offerings to Osiris and Anubis are commonly made. To celebrate - light candles or fires in memory of passed loved ones (note - this especially includes animals, ancient egyptians held great importance over pets and loved animals and animals were regularly mummified with their families) - Offerings made to Anubis and Osiris (wines, olive oil, insence, cypress leaves) - Write down messages for your departed loved ones and burn them in the candle/fire.

How do we ask a deity to work with us? I recently had dreams about Anubis and I want to work with him but it doesn’t seem to reach💔

Sorry it took a while to respond to this! But I'll respond to it now.
Dreaming about Anubis or any other deity could be a significant sign that they are attempting to establish contact with you. If these dreams occur frequently, it's even more likely that they are reaching out. Don't feel discouraged thinking that reaching Anubis is difficult to reach; in fact, he may be closer than you imagine, since what he has already made clear.
I can at least tell that you already have an eagerness wanting to work with him. If you want to work with him or work with any deity, usually the important step is asking. There are various ways to connect with them, such as using tarot cards, exploring their card associations, interpreting their messages, and just on how you go about the reading and the process.
Meditation is another method; it could involve lighting candles/incense (especially if is ones a deity likes or is associated to the deity), performing prayers, or simply finding a peaceful space in nature or your room to open up to any messages or connections that may come through. Whenever I meditate I usually put on some nature sounds or calming music to gain better focus, so that can also work.
Researching a deity before or during your time working with them can be beneficial and can strengthen the connection. It's like knowing what your friend likes, dislikes, who their parents were, what they grew up around, and what they could teach you through their story! You've created a bond by just remembering those little things.
An alternative approach to establishing a connection might involve setting up a sacred space dedicated to Anubis or any other deity with whom you wish to engage. This space could be with items or symbols closely associated with the deity, drawing inspiration from their mythology or any specific requests they may have asked. For instance, you might find a jackal statue or a small memento that resonates with the deity you wish to work with. Even something unexpected, like a toy skull, could spark the thought, "Maybe Anubis would appreciate this." Such simple gestures already convey your intentions and can be meaningful in themselves.
Additionally, you have the option to offer a range of libations, from alcoholic beverages like beer, rum or wine to non-alcoholic alternatives like tea and cool water (this can even include hot chocolate or coffee). For food offerings, you could do dark chocolate, bread, cake, fruits, nuts, meat, or honey.
Animals can be another great way to tell if they're contacting you or sending you a message. For Anubis, it would be jackals and canines. Throughout history, it's not unusual to find animals being associated with omens or being considered as messengers. This can include, for example, seeing a specific bird or animal in an unusual context or repeatedly could be seen as a sign or message from the spiritual world. I feel like this would be very important to keep in mind as well.
Interpreting messages from deities is a diverse experience. Sometimes they're evident, while at other times, they may be subtle. The way they communicate and how we perceive their messages varies. Patience and time are essential in this process. While some deities make their intentions clear, others remain mysterious. Either way, it doesn't make the journey any less valid.
It's important to remember that the concept of working with deities is often a personal experience, influenced by individual beliefs and practices. The relationship between you and the deity is personal.
I'll make a proper post some time on this topic with more added detail but this is all I'll share.
I wish you well on your journey! 💚

Free Readings!
Hello! I'm offering free tarot readings for my own practice and to help out others in situations. I'm going to start off with a maximum of 5 people to give readings to. You can choose between two of my decks. My main tarot deck and my oracle deck (it's egyptian deity themed). I'll do readings for almost pretty much anything. For example, relationships, careers, family, and even deity questions/ identification.

I'm absolutely astounded-
I took a chance this morning and offered Anpu some hot, black, dark roast coffee while I drink from my own cup.
There's actually visible marks on the inside where he took a sip.
He took my offering so so quickly!

Eclectic paganism (or witchcraft with multi-pantheon deity work, both terms can apply personally) sometimes means playing the offerings by ear and still somehow being surprised that the Egyptian god of death doesn’t want the same offerings as a couple Greek goddesses.
I made cupcakes tonight, so naturally I gave one to Hecate and Medusa. Did Anubis want this baked good that has the extra energy of being homemade? Nope. He wants a cinnamon stick.

I’m very new to #kemeticPaganism, so I wondered. Do any of you pray? My gods seem to be Ra and Anubis. prayers to them, as found online - seem to be very long. So I wrote a prayer of my own and placed it in my offering bowl. Along with flat bread, water and citrus fruit.
Is this ok… ? I just asked for protection and love at the end of my written words. What colour candles are good for Ra? I guessed orange and yellow? Is that accurate? I’ve ordered kyphi online as well. Can’t wait to burn it at bedtime! Any other offerings that Kemetic pagans enjoy offering to Ra and Anubis?
Loving learning about this
