I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A PAANI AND KWAZII INTERACTION. IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THEM. and then school decided to slam me with projects and obligations

i will still get this out because I've been wanting to do something with my designs for a bit, so here im sharing two sketches from the concept art i thought were particularly silly.

with the addition of a hideous old sketch that was supposed to be paani but the subject is frankly better pitched as a dogman style surgical fusion between curious george and the man with the yellow hat.

i ought to be nice to my past self though because without those ugly stages i wouldn't have been able to end up with something i liked :]

anyway while I don't exactly ship paani and kwazii i think their relationship can be explored in many interesting ways... specifically their mostly one sided rivalry

(keep in mind i am still not done watching above and beyond i am savoring it slowly)

paani is daring and off his feet more than on his feet like kwazii but he also has a scientific specialty and is very knowledgeable with the way the world works, and because of that he appears to be more of a tool to the octonauts than kwazii.

this is an offhand(not meant to be psychoanalyzed) example thrown at the wall here but in that one above and beyond episode where kwazii really wanted to go on a mission to investigate running water in the antarctic, even hyping himself up as the one to go, barnacles chose paani over kwazii. and yeah this is because water is paanis speciality and not kwazii's speciality but there's a whole bunch of what-ifs in my mind ABOUT that rivalry. like what if those little things add up. what if someone who's exactly like you is basically more fixed up and more of an asset than you. what if your colleagues admire that person more for their drive and spontaneity whilst making jokes about how nonsensical and rowdy you are. these thoughts wouldn't be a blaring spiraling siren in kwaziis mind but rather a dominating, quiet presence tucked away in the dark. one he can't see but he knows is there.

and fostering that relationship with paani, a fairly content and pure-of-ill-intent guy, inevitably forces kwazii to confront his perception of him and himself. and even better if paani wasn't the only one who kwazii was jealous of (this could be practically everyone on the octopod). his low self esteem is the common denominator and that would be further fueled by the above and beyond-octoagent operation where all these new people with various different skills and personalities are introduced and suddenly he isn't being picked for every single job he wants to do neow

but ofc kwazii is special he's the funny pirate guy haha he's meant to be the one to spring in first and get your nerves jumbled haha (and ik, characters aren't two dimensional. kwazii can be cautious and paani can be stubborn and peso can be brave and barnacles can be scared and tweak can make mistakes and dashi can not serve sometimes)

anyway that was mostly about kwazii and not paani and kwazii 💀 i just wanted to get some ideas out my brain

idk how accurate this would be but basically its shellington tryna say "hey do NOT try to help me sit up I will feel worse" after dashi did a mad sprint through the octopods hallway to him (she didn't know) 💀

Some thoughts and headcanons about it below the cut ^v^

I'm still learning more about the condition btw,but from what I could tell (pls correct me if I'm wrong I dont have POTS) standing and sitting upright for more than a few minutes is what can cause the episodes. Because all the blood kinda stays at the bottom of the body and ur brain doesn't get enough air? So thats why the dizziness, vision darkening, possible fainting, and other symptoms occur. There's other symptoms as well but I'm just talking about in regards to fainting.

This got me thinking though, in my au shellington came from a sea otter town, and half the town was basically floating above the kelp forest while other parts (like family spaces, social areas, and etc) were in the water. Apparently (correct me if I'm wrong) swimming is a common treatment for developing strength for people with pots since you don't have to be standing up. Not to mention apparently the cool water eases pain and the blood vessels are compressed by the water pressure?

Even so its still alot harder for him to do missions, especially since well... not only is there ALOT of swimming for extended periods of time- but...the GUPS (most of them, not including the gup d) dont.. have seats for the steering wheels...

I was thinking maybe tweak make him one that folds even better or something so he can fit it in his satchel? Ik sitting up for a while can cause issues but a mobile chair, electrolyte drinks, mobility aids, and compression socks are all things I think he would use. They're all probably pretty used to him just sitting anywhere and everywhere too. I'll probably start drawing him with a cane more often as well.

I do wonder if when the vegimals were little(like verryyy little), if they misunderstood his condition, maybe thinking he got scared sometimes and fainted kinda JUST LIKE THEM (altho theirs is def more of a playing dead survival response lol) ? I'm sure once they got old enough they could understand his explanation though lol. In my au they're just as intelligent as people, but very much are Just Kids.

Having POTS definitely would've made leaving his swimming sea otter community like.. really hard...

Anyways over time they definitely do their best to accommodate whatever needs he has (like with what he can and cant do on the job or just in the octopod) and are very chill and accepting about it 👍it can suck for him sometimes but no one gives him any flack about it.. its not a big deal to the octonauts cuz its just part of his life and they accept him entirely

Honestly . . . yeah I’m pretty tired. There’s a lot of things going on and at this point I think it’s time to call it. I’ve been really debating about making a post like this for the last few weeks. I think I’m gonna take a break from the Octonauts stuff. As much as I’m enjoying it, it’s also really stressing me out.

I’m not leaving forever, it’ll probably just be a few weeks AT THE MOST. I just need a hard reset. Unfortunately I can’t go much detail as of why, mostly some personal matters. And some of it is literally just the fact that my brain isn’t inspired and the hype I’m trying to give myself to make the content is only stressing me out more.

If you follow me on my other platforms you might see some posts coming out on there. To be specific the art block is just for Octonauts, so far I haven’t had any problems making content for other fandoms and I think that just means I need to work on some personal matters.

Please understand I love all of you and your support means the world to me. We’re already almost to 170 followers which is beyond what I was ever expecting. I cannot say, and I definitely won’t stop saying, how happy I am to have all of you here with me.

I’ve got some vacations coming up so I’m gonna take that time to really reflect on where I want the A.S.A. story to go. Honestly with the amount of attention it has gotten in such a small amount of time I kinda pressured myself to just throw things together as they come up, especially in the asks.

So all and all, I’m gonna take a break, I’ll be back in a few weeks fresh and ready to make content again. But I will still do my best to continue to be apart of the community. Unfortunately a guilty pleasure of mine is hopping on my fav Tumblr tags and just seeing what everyone is up to everyday. And I mean everyday. So if I comment on your posts or you see me popping in every now and then I promise I’m not ditching ya’ll, I’m just trying to stay updated and enjoy all of your creations.

Nom-onaut headcanons pt. 1

I'm making this a part 1 cause over time I keep getting more ideas. From the octoagents to episodes and stuff I find elsewhere on the internet. This part covers shellington, inkling, tweek, and some other general ideas I've had.

anyway! everything else under the cut.

Recently tried to draw the crew and got alot of fun ideas from doing that.

Shellington being a sea otter means that he is not built for walking like at all. He has very large clumsy flat feet. This explains why he trips over himself so often.

His AuDHD makes him so book smart, but so stupid once out of his lab.

He and inkling hang out often in the library or lab depending on who is busier.

He and dashi get along great too!

He collects a bunch of little rocks and has used them like tools every once in a while. he keeps his most handy one in his book bag.

He also fidgets horrendously with anything nearby. usually a rock in his hand or the strap of his satchel.

Unfortunately Tweek has a bit of a cold shoulder to him due to how often he crashed her precious gups. But would happily reteach him some driving lessons. unfortunetly he is so scared of that florida girl.

The vegimals will have their own post + art i did of them to better capture their fish counterpart colors and bodies.

Professor inkling is likely in his late 50's. or so it seems to me

With his 8-9 brains as octopi have, he's incredibly smart, able to memorize most of a book in one sitting.

He can taste through his tentacles and keeps his suckers as lax as possible to not stick to too many things, though his gripping ability is quite strong.

This is shown in the rainforest above and beyond episode, he memorized that manual pretty fast even when under pressure.

anyway, Inkling is also very aware of his restrictions on land, and his chair has a little misting function to keep him wet.

there is a hidden tank in the library where he sleeps.

Thanks to being boneless, he has some fun around Halloween being contorted and jump scaring some of the others by hopping out of odd tiny spaces. having no bones is pretty fun.

though if he's particularly tired he kinda flattens when outside of water. eepy puddle.

Inkling has had many experiences being eaten by his larger cousins, he and his family do safe noms all the time.

So it was honestly fine that he was the first of any of the octonauts to be eaten. he was a bit confused but the whole experience was fairly familiar.

Inklings ears flap when he's happy, droop when sad, and flatten back when upset.

He can also change his colors but wasn't recognized so he tries to keep himself as his neutral pink.

Tweek Is a full on crazy Florida girl.

Marsh rabbits are amazing swimmers and apparently lack a tail.

her hearing is amazing and her ears twitch when she focuses on listening.

She is a night owl, staying up late working on tinkering, building, and planning.

Her forearms and hands are stained black due to how much oil and other mechanical grease she has had covering them.

She insists she doesn't have a favorite gup its the Gup X. but she is also very proud of the Gup V the vegimals made.

She has fun gaming nights with Kwazii, and they play fight often, sometimes even wrestle, she usually wins too but Kwazii will never admit it.

Her kicks are deadly, and if she's angry you can hear and feel her stomping through the entire octopod.

Though he is also an amazing swimmer and can easily navigate through dense roots and vegetation. Her ears are also very expressive.

Her fur isn't truly green. her fur is mostly a light brown, she's green due to an accident with an early dye machine she made. It was unfortunately permanent so she's green almost everywhere, except for the bottom of her feet.

Other headcannons:

The fish biscuits use a lot of kelp which is apparently rich in a lot of vitamins and minerals, they are flavored with fish oil to trick predators.

Kwazii, Barnacles, Peso, Shellington, and Inkling need a special added protein to satiate some more dangerous predatory instincts, especially when helping so many easily eaten little creatures. They also take some supplements for anything else they may be missing in their natural diet.

The octopod and the gups have a bit of a special AI that helps them help the octonauts. Its very minor, but it comes in handy when the gups are able to pull a bit harder despite supposedly giving it all it mechanically could.

There is a bit of truth to all of Kwazii's stories thanks to the mysterious forces that lurk in the ocean, there are also many mythological things, only one or two but still they are there.

Kwazii has a unique ability to sense any supernatural beings.

Each character likes to collect different things.

Shellington likes little rocks

Inkling likes old books, memorabilia, and other old artifacts and items.

Dashi loves old pictures, sea-glass, and anything unusual

Tweek loves old toys and metal scrap, she's made some tiny statues and tiny machines out of scraps.

the vegimals love to plant any mystery seeds they find floating around.

Kwazii loves anything pirate related, or anything like gold and precious items like goblets and jewelry.

Barnacles will appreciate anything given to him, but he especially loves little mementos from missions.

everyone came out to him and he was like inwardly homophobic because of the way he had been brought up, but made a notebook full of everyone's pronouns and stuff so he could remember, and never did/said anything homophobic to anyone else - kinda like Imogen in heartstopper yk

always has eye bags because our boy does not sleep

he's not that strict on uniform - there are random clothes that tweak plonked the octonauts logo onto and that's what is considered uniform; everyone is allowed to wear whatever they want as long as its appropriate and has the logo on it somewhere.

basically always wears the same thing because the entire world will fall apart without his routine

played candy crush once in an ad and loved it

he secretly plays it on the web bc he can't admit to himself that he likes it enough to actually download it

everyone has called him dad at least once

gets fathers day cards from everyone every year

^^ has cried from this on multiple occasions

doesn't get sick often but when he does he is SICK. the second he wakes up his face is grey and pale and he physically cannot speak without coughing

peso makes him go to bed and when he eventually agrees he sleeps for like 2 days straight and is then immediately better

he tells kwazii off for being reckless but he's done some pretty dumb shit himself

will sacrifice himself for anyone and anything (has been told off about this many times and still continues to do it)

he and inkling are the only people in the crew who like dark chocolate

absolutely despises anything sour

his pain tolerance is very high

likes mint and will casually go to the garden pod and eat it raw

has claustrophobia (canon)

also has emetophobia (look it up) because I like projecting

once you've looked up emetophobia come back and read the next one:

when he was a cub and was learning to catch and eat fish he threw up after eating one particular fish and every time he sees it in the sea he will literally hold his breath and run away

he's actually very good at modern lingo and memes but does not understand for the life of him what a skibidi toilet is

sees peso as his son and will literally protect him with his life

other crew members have various mental health struggles and barnacles is genuinely so proud of them when they do anything that's hard for them even if its just surviving the day its so cute

he hasn't experienced the things the others go through but he has so much empathy and pride for them its insane

gives the best bear hugs and when he gets sad all he wants is cuddles but he's too scared to ask anyone

natquik and kwazii are the only people who have seen him have a full breakdown

if you've had a bad day he's your guy he will pick you up and cradle you like a baby no problem

on his birthday he literally gives zero fucks about presents but is insistent on getting/making really goof presents for everyone else

he has the deepest voice ever. and he's not terrible at singing either but he never sings. ever.

the accordion secretly pisses him off as well and he just keeps playing it because it's an ongoing joke and he doesn't want to ruin it

his paws are MASSIVE.
