davesprite and roxas. thats my writing prompt
there is a giant blanket fort taking up a good quarter of the room. roxas pauses, staring at it, and then walks around it to check— yep, that is almost entirely a quarter of the room. it’s brushing right up against the cardboard castle where the turtle puppet lives.
someone has a lot of time on their hands.
it is also covered in orange feathers.
some sort of strange doohickey is connected up at what roxas… thinks might be the entrance to the fort. a sign is propped up on it that reads no entry (unless you are a super cool dubiously real alternate version of a guy)(in which case the entry fee is apple juice)
roxas thinks about this for a second. he’s… not sure how cool he is, but he is the alternate version of a guy. well— he’s a nobody, after all, and he’s pretty sure that the fact that all his memories of twilight town are fake qualifies him as dubiously real. he goes to the kitchen, collects two apple juices from the fridge, and then pokes the doohickey to see what it does.
a head pops out from the front of the fort. it is a boy who is entirely bright orange, with a ruff of similarly orange feathers around his neck. the boy looks at his apple juice, looks at the doohickey, and then looks at roxas.
“why would i lie about it?” roxas asks.
“fair enough,” the boy says. “guess i didn’t consider there’d be another guy like me on this train. stupid of me. welcome to casa strider, davesprite edition, make yourself comfortable, yada yada. davesprite is me, by the way.”
he holds the entrance open. roxas slips inside and settles on a pillow. davesprite follows after a moment and flops his entire body— what of it seems corporeal, anyway; his lower half vanishes into spirit aether after a point— across multiple pillows.
“far be it from me to have a feelings jam,” davesprite says, holding out a hand for the apple juice (roxas dutifully passes one over to him), “though that seems to be the general point of a blanket fort— not that i would know, all my blanket forts were population: one, and that one was me— how long you been on the train for?”
“like a day or two?” roxas says. he’s genuinely not sure. after twilight town, his sense of time is completely shot. he glances down at the number on his hand, starting to trail off his palm onto his wrist. “what about you?”
“long enough.” roxas narrows his eyes, but before he can push davesprite lets out a caw like a strange bird and his feathers all ruffle up and around.
“sorry,” he says. “that happens. i’m part crow, in case the wings didn’t give it away.”
“were you born like that?” roxas asks, tipping his head to the side. the head and the hands look human enough, but roxas has seen enough pictures of magical creatures to not make assumptions. although— “no, wait. are you dead?”
davesprite laughs. “no,” he says. “i know i look like a ghost or whatever, but no. i’m— actually, i’m not really alive either.” he frowns. “just kind of here.”
roxas understands. he walks and talks and if he stops breathing things get really bad, but he doesn’t actually have a heartbeat— he’s checked. he’s definitely not dead, but he’s not sure that counts as alive either.
davesprite must see something on his face, because he says, “whoops. sorry for the existential crisis, dude.”
“no, it’s fine,” roxas says. davesprite has a number on his hand— something four digits, and normal. “just like, thinking that i understand that. the not being dead but not being alive thing.”
davesprite looks at him then, and then says, “i dunno. you look pretty alive to me. just because you’re like, an alternate version of some other guy— and i really don’t need to know deets on if you’re a clone or a guy from a different timeline or what, that’s your business and not mine— doesn’t mean you’re not alive.” his facial expression doesn’t change, nor does his tone, as he says, “meanwhile i’m just a game construct so i stopped counting as alive or dead like two and a half years ago.”
roxas considers explaining nobodies to him and decides he doesn’t feel like yelling at a guy he’s just met about how he’s wrong, no really, just because he’s saying it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. instead he objects, “i don’t think that makes you not alive either. or like, i dunno. it still makes you real. maybe you should change the sign on the door, because from where i’m sitting you’re definitely real. even if you are an alternate version of some other guy.”
“oh.” davesprite says, and then they don’t talk for a while, sipping apple juice in quiet solidarity.
(neither of them notice davesprite’s number drop by over 400.)
#my writing#interstitial infinity#look roxas can't have a revelation about being real before he gets sucked into the apex#that would break canon#you can pinpoint the moment that davesprite makes a heart link with this kid#maybe once the season's over i'll write the followup to this#with like full context and character development lmfao#in the meantime: blanket fort#asks#charaznablescanontoyota

Alright everyone, I've finally implemented an inventory system and a way to buy new parts. You get money as drops from enemies and can spend it to buy parts to put onto your board. Also, I'm taking a new direction with the design of the home base. Let me know what you think!
P.S. I will be streaming some 3d modeling in about an hour if you want to tune in and chat.

ok. if u couldnt tell by my nottposting that i went to look @ feh's catalogue of heroes & got distracted thats ok bc i just successfully did that & here are a few musings abt buff femme women & buff women in general in fire emblem:
- they were actually kinda cooking with effie. its true some of the fates girl designs are painful but credit where credit is due
- it made me so sad when hapi called herself buff ingame while having the standard twiggy model. 3h is so good already i wish they didnt try to be more than they were. hapi is so good. we can just let her be what she is its okay
- tellius
#txt#nailah could rip my head off with her bare hands & i'd use my dying wheeze to say thank you send TWEET#also like. off topic but fe6's character designs r just so good. i feel like there's an apex between 'tech capabilities to show chara design#as well as development of fe's style' & 'recognizability & silhouette losing importance to details & higher quality sprites' and thats gba#but also fe6 specifically. like as much as i think the art & Vibes of the tellius characters are the best all the binding blade characters#look so distinctive#like u could just draw a blue triangle w a lil red rectangle & any fe fan could say oh thats lilina#like art vs design yknow. they are different axes upon which to evaluate

y’all this episode is a HYPE TRAIN
#interstitial infinity#this might be my favorite episode yet for the sheer amount of character growth/regression everybody’s getting#and the action/atmosphere#mob going 100 was incredible and it somehow wasn’t even the most intense development#it’s increasingly obvious that this group is genuinely dedicated to one another’s characters and overall story fulfillment and it’s FUN#between shadow and audrey co-lecturing mob and al wrangling small apex kids#the ‘emergency parenting’ vibes are immaculate today#trish is in her villain era and I love that for her but I’m scared to find out what her number is#the active in-character use of meta and genre awareness is extremely clever#also#the team dynamic keeps shifting and it’s fascinating. like a multi-genre kaleidoscope#I am now even more commited to these relationships I didn’t know existed before this podcast

Also, frost breath IS a useful adaptation to a tundra environment. Large predators tend to have fairly low success rates on hunts. Now, we can probably expect a dragon to be on the higher end of the scale due to their intelligence, flight, and breath weapon, but I would still say it’s reasonable to estimate that a dragon could have one failed hunt for every two successes. Add in the fact that a significant portion of the prey worth hunting will either hibernate or migrate during the winter, and suddenly your dragon may have long stretches of time where it needs to rely on food from previous hunts, preserved by being flash frozen and kept in the dragon’s icy larder.

#also you know what a great pressure to develop cold resistance would be?#an apex predator with cold breath

Looking for Custom Oracle APEX Solutions? Can Your Managed Service Provider Deliver?
When your business requires tailored applications to meet specific operational challenges or unlock new efficiencies, generic software often falls short, necessitating the development of custom Oracle APEX solutions. The critical question then becomes not just who can build these applications, but who can integrate their creation, deployment, and ongoing management seamlessly within your broader Oracle ecosystem. This is where the distinct advantages of partnering with a specialized Oracle Managed Service Provider like Absca Systems come into sharp focus. Unlike standalone development shops, an Oracle Managed Service Provider possesses a holistic understanding of the entire Oracle technology stack, from the underlying database and infrastructure to the application layer where APEX thrives. Absca Systems, for instance, doesn't just offer APEX developers; they provide a cohesive team that ensures your custom APEX applications are architected for performance, security, and scalability within a fully managed environment. This integrated approach means that from the initial design and development phases of your custom Oracle APEX solutions through to deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization, you benefit from a unified strategy. By leveraging an Oracle Managed Service Provider such as Absca Systems, you're not just commissioning an application; you're investing in a solution that is intrinsically designed to perform optimally within its Oracle habitat, supported by experts who manage both the application and its foundational platform, ultimately leading to more robust, reliable, and impactful business tools.

sometimes i forget warframe is a constant developing game
like fym gauss prime and dante and melee arcanes only existed for half a year it feels like forever... (which it kinda does because everything is already here since my day 1)
#tbh warframe's history is a liiiiiiiittle bit easier to grasp than destiny or apex#almost everything is still in the game and there is an actual complete playable main quest line that i can treat as a basis of#there isn't a hella lot of outside media too#how can apex just put their main story or character development as a comic. post on twitter and said absolutely nothing about it in game-#-until they already treat them as known and canon history when they actually say something in the battle pass story thingy#i don't know how i made sense of the first 3 years of apex history#ramble

Mild dev story: Battlepass Tiers
This is from the latest Jimquisition.
It kind of reminded me of a thing.
This was in late 2000s when I was doing a university "project" course interning at a company. (The company seemed to exist at least at some level a couple of years ago, but now appears to have been bought by a bigger internet-of-things company. I haven't seen the "product" they made in a while, so whatever code I wrote back then is so deep in the vault that nobody is ever going to see it again. I take honour in knowing my code is deeply appreciated by the top men.)
"programming is rather thankless. u see your works become replaced by superior ones in a year. unable to run at all in a few more." - _why
Anyway. I was tasked to write a shop interface for a future "access tier" functionality. Mainly, at the time, it was about integrating the third party electronic payment library, and to add ability to initiate and accept/reject purchases through electronic banks and payment providers. Simple stuff. At this time the shop frontend was supposed to just be nonsense that wasn't actually visible to production users, so I could come up with nonsense access tier "products".
So I came up with some access tiers!
"Bronze!"
"Silver!"
"Gold!"
...Okay so far!
"Platinum!" Why not! ...
Then my ideas started running dry. "Titanium!" ... uh, why not...? "Neutronium!"...
I tried to stretch my creative writing skills so that the first tier levels would look sensible based on the boss's instructions.
I don't know what ungodly riches I promised to the buyers of the higher tiers. "Oh if you buy the Neutronium package you get all of the stuff from the previous tiers plus a private 24H lounge and spa". (You know. For a subscription to a boring web service.) Stuff along those lines.
It was a joke anyway. Nothing of the sort was supposed to make it to the production.
Anyway, my boss was like "good job, nicely done."
I expected literally no acknowledgement, and I got literally no acknowledgment. ...Fair is fair.
The product may have actually had some use for some years after the course was finished... maybe? I rightly can't tell. This product was basically known by a codename and I have no idea if it actually got to production stage. (It was also supposed to be offered to the university students enventually, and I literally heard nothing about it during the rest of my studies.)
So why am I talking about this after a random Jimquisition screenshot?
Well.
Thanks to this little internship, I can legitimately say I have professional experience about TIER NAMING.
(Point the first: I literally have no marketing experience except that. Point the second: I'm not going to put this in my LinkedIn, don't worry.)
So, a professional opinion:
If you name your tier "Ultimate", you fucking don't do "Ultimate+".
You can only go beyond "Ultimate" if you do "Ultimate Motherfucking Super Badass Double Diamond Motherfucker!"¹. Which doesn't fly well in a dry corporate setting.
Stick with a series of more and more implausible elements.
Even if you are stretching it.
¹ (...I was inspired by a video lampooning crypto scams, unfortunately it has no English subs)
Oh yeah! EDIT: BONUS RESEARCH SHENANIGANS
I tried to look for the battle pass details on official EA site. It only showed me "Free", "Premium" and "Premium+" tiers.
I noticed the URL had ?isLocalized=true in the URL.
Ha HA! Being a web software develper, I have [level 0] at hax0r skills. What happens if I change that shit to true?
What. Let's try again.
"I have not the strength, nor the wisdom to master such power… …But one day I shall!" (Ultima VIII: Pagan)

I like to imagine a scenario where humanity just never developed energy guns and has stuck to kinetic weaponry forever and at some point some alien species thinks about messing with the wrong apex predator species.
Alien 1: "Captain, I assure you, our ships can't be breached by anything weaker than a concentrated proton beam. They barely have lasers. We'll be fine."
Alien 2: "Sub relativistic projectile incom-" gets hit by a railgun shell at mach fuck
