The fact that Apple’s Lightning connector did support USB 3 speeds, and instead of opening up the standard like they did with MagSafe/Qi2, they nerfed it down the USB 2 speeds and kept it so locked down that the EU forced them to stop using the standard entirely, is actually hilarious.
Like, the Lightning Connector could’ve easily been the USB-C connector. Apple is apart of the USB Committee. They helped design USB-C. They could’ve given their connector to the Committee, and every other phone would’ve been forced to switch, and iOS users would’ve had the advantage of not having to do so. Apple could have done what Tesla did with SAE-J3400 and NACS, but instead, they got too overzealous. And now look at where they got themselves.

so apparently apple is using usb-c cables now which i didn't fucking know and of course the cables that come with the phone are usb-c on both ends so that you have to buy their stupid fucking charging blocks too and my idiot car decided that it refuses to connect to anything via bluetooth anymore, meaning until i get a usb-c/usb-a cable (ordered one that's supposed to get here today but it's looking more like tomorrow) i have to listen to the radio in my car, which is less than ideal bc i don't like the commercials, but i did hear edge of seventeen for the first time in ages this morning so maybe it's not all bad
#honestly i do not care about apple vs android but i hate how apple does these little things to inconvenience their users for more money#all the charging cables used to be usb a at one side even when they switched to stupid lightning#im just glad they switched to usb c instead if some new inscrutable apple-only format bc i have other usb c cables#they are just not long enough to use outside the house#tirah talks#anyway fuck all that shit JUST LIKE A WHITE WINGED DOVE SINGS A SONG SOUNDS LIKE SHES SINGIN

do i NEED to pack a zillion charging cords and adapters and power banks? probably not. am I going to stuff them all in my personal item anyway? oh absolutely
#the knock-off 3ds charger I got has a plug for my New 3DS XL and second plug for the DS Lite apparently?#I have no idea why I bought that one instead of just a regular replacement for the new 3ds xl#why do I even have so many random cables anyway. what did I need a usb-A to 3.5mm cord for???#I have a mini 8 pin that I'm pretty sure went to a camera I no longer have.#some day I oughta go through and get rid of. probably most of these tbh#I don't have any Apple stuff tho besides this new portable charger that I got bc the one I had before needed a cord to connect to the phone#and this one just plugs straight in and can switch between USB-C and whatever the fuck Apple's shit is called. lightning charger I think?#anyway it didn't really cost any more than one with just usb-c so I figured hey might as well have more options Just In Case

The new person at work was asking around for gum and I did not have gum because I keep forgetting to refill my Quip gum dispenser, but I did have a box of TheraBreath mints. I told her to help herself, and she has eaten so many mints in the past two weeks that today that she apologized to me for eating all my mints, and I told her that, first of all, there were a hundred mints in that box and I didn't like them anyway because they said they were "orange mint" but they are just plain mint and I don't like them very much, and I have a second box of another hundred of them at home, but also- and then I opened my desk drawers.
I have, in my desk:
Mints
Ballpoint pens
Highlighters
Tape
Staples
Staple remover
Paperclips
Decorative sticky notes
Mini 3-ring binder with a handwritten list of all the local medical practices we refer to, their phone numbers, their fax numbers, our doctors' NPI numbers, and contact information for our company representatives, and the filing procedures for scanning medical records regarding cataract post operative surgery procedures
Glasses spray and cleaning cloth
Keyboard dust broom
Permanent markers (black and red)
USB-A to micro USB charging cable
USB-A to USB-C charging cable
USB-A to lightning charging cable
Apple Watch charging cable
Two two-port USB-A plugs
Portable lamp
Keyboard length wrist rest
Ibuprofen
Naproxen
Acetaminophen
Pepto Bismol caplets
Listerine
Gel moisturizing eye drops
Dental floss
Salty-sweet nut bars
Coconut granola biscuit sandwiches
Mini dessert cakes
Hot chocolate k-cups
In the kitchen, I said, I have:
Peanut butter
Raspberry jam
Whole wheat bread
Capri Suns (3 flavors, 1 box cold)
Yogurt
Fruit cups
Fresca
Cheetos
More hot chocolate k-cups
Apple cider k-cups
Chai k-cups
Bottled water
Utensil set including two spoons, a butter knife, a fork, a straw, and chopsticks
And then, I tell her, my desk-mate just found out yesterday that in my car, along with a roadside breakdown kit, thirty reusable shopping bags, two golf umbrellas, and a first aid kit, I also have five different kinds of tampons (two absorbencies with applicators, three without) and two kinds of pads.
I am also, we noted, the person who most often refills the tank on the coffee machine, mops the bathroom, and cleans the lobby, and I am the only person in the office who is cross-trained in all three departments.
And this new person was like, "So what I'm gathering is that [Z] has got you. No matter what you have going on, [Z] has got you covered."
And I was like, "Yeah, basically."
And she was like, "Noted."

I felt like G13 blowing up multiple times on a Tech check figuring out my charging situation for tonight. I packed last minute for 1 night, so I packed way lighter than I normally do and ended up forgetting to grab any chargers other than one USB C cable with a lightning dongle attached and a single USB C charging block. But I was pretty sure there were more chargers in my bag somewhere already so I’d be fine.
First I looked around for outlets. I’d need to plug in my watch, a fan, and my phone at a minimum, and preferably also my earbuds, but those would last until I got home anyway.
The two outlets I could see were next to the bed and by the foot of the bed. The one by the bed had a lamp plugged in, leaving only one spot and the one by the foot had no table nearby.
Then I started going through my backpack looking for additional chargers. First, I found a double USB C charger. This was a big win because now all I needed was a cable for each thing and they could all charge. Plugged into it was a Lightning cable. Now I could charge my earbuds too, since they’re the only thing I had using Lightning. I dug through some more and found an Apple Watch charger, but it was USB A. However, I knew I would be able to pull it off now, because not having a watch charger was the most likely way I expected to fail.
I started digging and couldn’t find anything to help until I finally remembered: in the other bag I brought, when I was packing my sheets, there was a bag with a wireless mouse at the bottom, and that would have a USB A to C adapter. I pulled it out and not only did it have one, but it was actually the one where I’d dumped in all the extra USB A to C adapters, so I had so many.
Then came the challenge of making the cords work. Ideally, I wanted the lamp, my phone, and the fan all at the head of the bed, and the others I didn’t care where they were. So I plugged those in at the door with the double USB C brick. I noticed the decoration hanging above the outlet had a little pocket in it that may or may not have been intended to hold something light and decorative. I gave it a little tug to make sure it could hold a little weight, and it made a nice little place to stow my charging watch and earbuds.
Then came the front of the bed, which was easy save for needing a third outlet. But then I remembered I’d seen something in my backpack: a book light! So I unplugged the lamp and clamped the book light to the table. And with that, I had successfully set up charging for all of my things.
And then after I found a pocket just completely full of USB C and USB A bricks.
#i don’t know why‚ i just feel like sharing long-winded explanations of mundane things lately#it’s just the mood i’m in#never stop blowing up

JSAUX Nylon Braided Cords (Micro USB/Lighting) - Part 2 (second half recorded)(final) (April. 6th, 2024)
No need for another “On This Day” throwback post.
Hey guys. Sorry for keeping it waited on this before this month ended. So anyways, welcome back to this continuous topic review of my new braided cables. Last time where I’d covered my long awaited charging test to my Samsung Tab E device, It’s time where I also covered my recent iPad tablet device here. Thankfully at the same day after did with my Samsung device’s charging test, I’d moved quickly to another one with my next device I’d mentioned. Without further ado, onto this final part share.
⬆️ (29th Image; back in 2:41 P.M.)
Switching things right along, I’d now recorded with my recent iPad device to charge up. Since now that with my Samsung Tab E full on battery; all thanks to my new blue braided cables from the first half review, I’m able to use it to take photos with its camera app. It worked fine from years later and the image quality was good. 👍 There’s more photos from during this second half review I’d gotten. Anyways, this here’s after letting my iPad device’s battery life drained about hours later.

⬆️ (30th to 31st Images; from 2:45 to 2:47 P.M.)
It’s a right time to bring my red colored braided cable in good use. I’d took it out to give a good look before plugging with my Apple charger adapter. It was exactly designed from my blue braided cables, but ya know; differently designed lighting type of cable.

⬆️ (32nd and 39th Images; from 2:48 to 2:57 P.M.)
Now I’m plugging to my red colored braided cable into this Apple charger adapter. Good thing now that for the adapter stills functional, but also alongside with its original lighting cable I’d previously used for my recent iPad device in few years or less. I’ll do in comparison post with my normal cables for another time. Now back to this topic review, its charging progress had finally started when checking onto my iPad device. Looks promising that I’m good for having those new charging cables; from my mom’s help we’d ordered from in Amazon.com. 🙂👍

⬆️ (40th to 41st Images; from 2:58 to 7:20 P.M.)
Hours later when checking on my iPad device’s battery, it’s now fully charged at 7:20 P.M. that sure felt this long. That’s my opinion before going to bed during nighttime. 🥱 Nevertheless, at least its get the job done with my red braided charging cable; same goes for my blue braided cable from my first half review. Though looking back its charging time from where the beginning; at 2:53 til 7:20 P.M., it took about less than 4 hours in comparison with my blue braided cable to my android tablet for 5 hours. Doesn’t matter which is charged better or quicker, I’m very glad when going through my new braided cables for the first time.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: ⬇️
Completed through this second/final half review, my red colored braided lighting type cable definitely fits to my recent iPad device. Though having to wait hours later for its charging test to get through before bed regardless. That being said, I did my best to get by when writing this review from it. All in all, I’m very happy for my new cable upgrades to set up. Do wish them last longer for future uses and among with my other tech items I can charge with.

⬆️ (From April 6th, 2024 to May. 19th, 2024)
Before signing off, here’s another close up for both braided cables that includes putting both straps in. As for its length, this is far I can get before photo shoot on my bed. Nevertheless, I’m sure they’re both similar in length beyond their differences.
Hope you guys enjoy this final review topic I’d really wanted to have. I’ll be taking care with my new braided cables as I can, but taking a break before saving some new topics and continuing ones soon. For now, here’s to a final week til June 2024 and to everyone gotten plans for the summer. Good luck! 👋
Also, this. ⬇️

Charged Up
One of the most frustrating things that happens to consumers, especially when it comes to tech products, is to find out that something you own is now obsolete. It happens all the time, but one company—Apple—has been notorious for doing it. Worse yet, the obsolescence affects one of the most mundane aspects of the product, yet also one of the most critical: the charger cord.
It was eleven years ago that Apple introduced the Lightning connector for its iPhones, leaving the much clunkier 30-pin connector to fade away. While it was a net improvement, it meant that all of our household and car chargers were done. They also did a similar move with charger cords for their MacBook line of laptops. And don’t get me started about when they eliminated the headphone jack back on iPhone 7 in 2016. It was clearly a move to bolster sales of their wireless AirPods.
Now they have done it again. At their big media announcement earlier this week, Apple announced iPhone 15 among other products, but also had to tell us that—here we go again—the phone’s charger cord would now be USB-C. It’s just that this time, Apple is not trying to pull another fast one, because they have been forced to change.

While it is convenient to think that the US rules the world and we set the standards, we are quickly waking up to the fact that the EU—European Union—has significant clout. The General Data Protection Regulation that was passed in 2018 ensures that European users have much higher expectations of data privacy online, and while they can opt-in to cookies, they are not the de facto setting. We can thank the GDPR for all those annoying questions we face on many websites today asking us if we would like some cookies.
The EU is at it again, with charger cords the next item to come in their cross hairs. Starting next year, all devices sold in Europe must have a common connector. USB-C was chosen as the standard. In both cases—the GDPR and charger cord—American firms have decided to go with the flow, and not fight it. Rather than have two websites, one for the EU and the one for everywhere else, they opted for one. As for Apple, it had no choice but to yield, if it wants to sell phones there.
Of course, this once again puts consumers in a bad place, because we still have legacy products that require the Lightning cord. At my office, both my keyboard and mouse are charged by—you guessed it—the Lightning cord. And my two Apple MagSafe external batteries also require that connector. Even when I upgrade my phone from 12 to 15, I will still have to keep some of these old cords around, while also changing out my home and vehicle charger cords.
Lovely. I will be using two systems at the same time. I see a tangled mess of cables in my future.
It can be argued that Apple should never have stuck with proprietary connectors in the first place, that it wasn’t being a good corporate citizen. But there is a monetary explanation. On Wednesday’s Morning Brew Daily podcast, they reported that Apple makes $5 billion a year either selling its own cords, or licensing their manufacture to third-party companies. That is a significant revenue stream that is now gone.
I am also perplexed that Apple had already adopted the USB-C standard on its own for MacBooks and iPads. It’s enough to make me pull out my hair. Well, if I had enough to pull.
Yes, I am an Apple fan boy. I made the switch in 2005, and have not looked back. While I do not own an Apple Watch or AirPods, I have phone, laptop, office iMac, and tablet, and I love the eco-system. Everything plays well together, which makes it a powerful bundle not replicated elsewhere. I’m good with paying the so-called “Apple tax” to own these products.
Sometimes, though, I admit to the frustration you get when you feel like someone is just yanking you around. This time Apple is getting yanked around. It lost the battle in Europe, and had to concede the world. I’m happy, because there really never was a good reason to have unique connectors other than extra revenue. In fact, this is something that has been going on for years in tech products, from cords to batteries. I can show you a bunch of incompatible camera batteries within both the Sony and Canon lines.
It’s just that Apple is the one getting the black eye for it now. It’s going to be a wobbly transition period for a while until we wear out all of our older products that still use Lightning, but we’ll get there one day.
And we can then add those old charger cords to that box everyone has in their home. Heck, mine still has Cat-4, RS-232, RCA, and land-line phone cables in it. Just in case, you know.
