It also accepts the voltages between 7 and 20 volts and powered up by USB cable or a 9V battery.

Arduino UNO version 1.0 board is first in the series of USB Arduino boards and reference model for multiple Arduino platform. The ATmega328 on the Arduino Uno offers pre-programmed with a bootloader which enables you to upload new code to it without the use of an external hardware programmer. It communicates via the original STK500 protocol. The Arduino UNO 1.0 does not utilize the FTDI USB-to-serial driver chip. Instead, it uses the Atmega16U2 (Atmega8U2 up to version R2) majorly programmed as a USB-to-serial converter.
Special Pin Functions
Students of best MTech colleges in Rajasthan uses each of the 14 digital pins and 6 Analog pins on Arduino Uno as an input or output, using pinMode, digitalWrite, and digitalRead functions. However, these pins mainly operate at 5 volts. Each pin can offer or receive 20 mA as recommended operating condition and has an internal pull-up resistorof 20-50k ohm. A maximum value of 40mA must not be exceeded on any I/O pin to avoid permanent damage to the micro-controller. It has 6 analog inputs, that is labeled as A0 through A5, each of which provide 10 bits of resolution (i.e., 1024 different values).
Additionally, some pins have specialized functions as follows:
1. External Interrupts – Pins 2 and 3 can be configured to trigger an interrupt on a low value, a rising or falling edge, or a change in value.
2. Serial- Pins 0 (RX) and 1 (TX) can be used to receive (RX) and transmit (TX) TTL serial data. Students of top Engg colleges can connect these pins to the corresponding pins of the ATmega8U2 USB-to-TTL Serial chip.
3. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) – 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11 can provide 8-bit PWM output with the analogue Write () function.

Week 1 – Tech for Good
I started off my project by beginning to do research around an idea I was sitting on during the break. It is quite a broad idea but the general idea is bushing towards the “Smart Home” movement
I’m proposing to integrate a house security system with the mains switchboard and front door locks.
I found information on home security, household power usage and RFID vs regular key locks.
Home Security
Through the NZ Police database I found that there were 65,205 cases of unlawful entry with intent/burglary in the past year with the majority of incidents happening in the early afternoon. Ideally my project would make it increasingly difficult thus deterring burglary and break-ins of my target users.

Power Consumption
I found that standby and baseload consumption together can account for 10% of the energy used in an average house – around $200 per house per year (all electric house @ $0.28/kWh).
My project aims to reduce standby power consumption by controlling the mains board when the user leaves the house.

App control
I drafted up an app UI and listed the general communications that the app would have with other users and the security system. This should be able to guide the requirements and integrations of the project in a specific way and should make the project intention easier to interpretate.
Lock mechanism
I also prototyped a general locking mechanism using Arduino, RFID and a micro servo. Using arduino worked well because it provided a quick way to get the components working together HOWEVER translating the circuit into a smaller enclosure may prove to be difficult.

This paper presents the design and prototype implementation of the automation system that can be used two Arduino Nano with sensors. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this system, the devices such as LDR, temperature sensor, smoke sensor and motion sensor have been integrated with the automation system. In addition, the GSM and RFID modules are also used for security system. The functions of the sensors are to monitor and control the light, the room temperature and alarms. The main goal of the security system is GSM which is used to send the SMS alerts to the owner. Two Arduino Nano control sensors and relays that monitor a defined location and take action based on specified parameters like ambient light, temperature, etc. The microcontroller will send SMS to the owner if the sensors detect an abnormality. In addition, door lock security is developed by RFID module. In this paper, the presents of GSM module security system make more secure and reliable.
