Sleep (Fear pt. 5)

Ra was a bitch. Oh, she was such a bitch.

Forcing Seth to to keep you there for some sort of sick and sadistic pleasure of hers… a fortnight. An entire fortnight.

You had planned on just saying hi, catching up on gossip, and then leaving for the New World again. After you’d roasted Ra, of course.

But this?

This complicated things.

A lot.

Not because you couldn’t run or escape without Seth noticing, but because the consequences that would follow would immediately punish him. And damn, could Ra get creative with punishments.

You were choking, gagging, crying.

Your own fingers had left burn marks on your own skin as Ra’s chains held you.

Over and over.

Your hands were not your own anymore, feeding you hot coals over and over.

Your tongue tasted like ash, your insides scorching in their path.

Over and over.

Your screams had long since died.

And Ra was simply sitting in her chair, reading a scroll.

“Are you going to leave me again, dearest?” She asked.

Get too close to the sun and you’ll get burned.

You had learned that the hard way. Gods forbid you would wish what you’d gone through on another person. Even someone like Osiris.

“Amheh, I’m sorry.” Seth said, apologetically. “It’s not personal. I just want my old life back.”

“And you think I don’t?” You answered, brows furrowing. “She’s using you. Once you let her, there’s no going back. She’s sick.”

“And you are supposed to be atoning!” Seth shot back.

“Atoning for what? Wanting freedom? Escaping a toxic relationship? A toxic family? Having no regrets?”

“For leaving!”

“Leaving who?! You?”

Seth’s face turned to a grimace. His lips tugged into a snarl.

“No, Ra!” He answered vehemently.

“Then why are you doing this? All she wants is to get her clutches on me again, and I won’t let that happen!”

“Not everything is about you, Amheh!” Seth spat. “Ra just loves you, and you’re stupid to ignore it.”

You looked at him in shock, your brain processing what he just said.

“You’re an idiot.” You managed. “Ra killed me. Over and over again. Whenever I did something she didn’t like. Then she cried, and brought me back. Out of anger she killed me again, over and over. And then it all repeated itself.”

It sickened you.

“You call that love?” You whispered. “You call what Osiris did to you love? I thought you were better than this. I thought-“ you paused.

“You understand me.” Seth had said. “How is it that you do? How is it when you speak that you look so pained? What have you seen, Amheh?”

“You don’t want to know.” You’d said then.

And it was true.

He didn’t.

Maybe that’s why it hurt when you’d realized the person you considered friend was actually working with Ra.

“She raped me.” You said bitterly. “I had no clue what it was called then. But she forced herself on me.”

Seth bit his lip, mentally kicking himself.

“Think about what you just said to me, you ingrate.” You spat, before storming out into the garden of the temple.

Wisps of sand followed behind you, but your gaze melted it to glass.

“I need to be alone.”

And so you were. You sat on the single bench in the garden, gazing out to the scorching sands from under a date tree, and closed your eyes.

Maybe sleeping these days away would be better.

Yes.

Maybe you could avoid Seth.

It wouldn’t be that difficult.

It ended with a frustrated Batman, confused Nightwing, unsettled Black Bat, pleased Red Hood, amused Batgirl, fascinated Red Robin, and annoyed Robin trying to catch three teenagers that accidentally took over the Gotham underworld.

Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura tumble through an interdimensional portal and land in a place called Gotham. They intend to lay low and search for a way home but their plans go awry when the local villains decide the trio is the most interesting thing that has happened to the city since the rise of Batman.

Learning that his absent father is (allegedly) the world’s best mercenary honestly shouldn’t come as a surprise at this point. He’s always known that he didn't deserve this second chance at life. It was too much to hope for it to be peaceful, especially with all these superheroes and supervillains milling around.

Kakashi’s evening gets interrupted when a villain kidnaps him and his twin sister. The subsequent events drag him back straight into the world of violence and pain that he thought he had left behind after his death. At least messing with people never gets boring, no matter what universe he’s in.

Fontaine: Lolita + Coppélia

So the dancing couple is inspired by the story Coppélia,,,

The script in game was written, but never published so it looks like in the efforts of the public to,, recreate the story of Coppélia,,, they wrote Dr. Coppelius and Coppelia in a Lolita scenario ?? where he as the creator was in love with his automated creation ??

The reference I specifically noticed is that he calls her "my love, my sin, my soul" which is,, a direct fucking quote of the narrator from the book.

And that line... it's fascinating how it comes from the point of this evil man trying to justify himself and make it all sound more acceptable, while damning himself in the same sentences.

It's clever writing but in a deplorable character study, which makes it all the more interesting that Genshin has included it for Fontaine

Bc on top of the obvious French aspects of the ballet Coppélia, having the citizens of Fontaine interpret the unpublished story of the automations turn from the plot of a young man turning from his fiancee to the doll in the window, believing her to be a real woman only for his lover to expose the doll as a doll to regain his affections,,,,, into the plot of a dollmaker in a morally questionable relationship with his doll to the point where she outlives and dreams of the day of joining him in death..... (< not the exact plot of Lolita itself but that reference and the romance aspect is the reference)

well it's curious given the human trafficking issue that is primarily centered on young girls being stolen away that has been going on for decades in the nation of justice esp since lolita is from the pov of that man who was in jail recounting his days when he was freely alone with his stepdaughter, waiting for his trial, but dying before ever being sentenced.

Coppelia wishes for forgiveness, presumably the same as her creator having except she says the sin is only forgiven when it is forgotten, but she fails to grant the forgiveness by remembering him and telling others that she is waiting for her death in the same way he died.

The fontaine research of philosophy place studied sumeru machinery, the guards of the temples. Deshret built those machines in the hopes to protect his people and to keep part of himself alive should his goddess return So for Coppelia to have these similar desires,, but opposite bc she awaits reunited in death and not in life

It's #NationalBirdDay so I want to talk about birds in mythology. There are many stories from ancient Greece about mythological birds and half-bird creatures.

Birds of Ares

The Birds of Ares (Ornithes Areioi in ancient Greek) were a flock of arrow-feathered birds which the god had set to guard his sacred shrine on the Black Sea island of Dia, also called Ares' Island. It had been built by the Amazons, his daughters. The birds were encountered by the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece. The heroes raised their shields as a defence against the birds' deadly volleys of arrows and with a clash of shield and spear scared them away.

The Birds of Ares were sometimes identified with the Stymphalian Birds driven off by Herakles (see below).

Griffins

The Griphoi or Griffins is a hybrid creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. They guard a treasure of gold by the border to Hyperborea. Griffins were popular decorations in ancient Greek art, for example the helm of the statue of Athena Piraeus:

Harpies

The Harpyiai or Harpies were depicted as winged women, sometimes with ugly faces, or with the lower bodies of birds. They were the spirits of sudden, dangerous gusts of wind and were sent by the gods to snatch up people and things from the dark earth. A missing person was said to have been snatched by the Harpies.

Hippalektryon

The Hippalektryon, literally "horse-cock" or "horse-rooster" (hippos = horse, alektryôn = cock) is a hybrid creature with the head and sometimes forelegs of a horse and the wings, tail and back-legs of a male chicken. @sigeel drew them most beautifully, tended to by Demeter and Persephone.

Phoenix

This bird is still well-known today through the saying "rising like a Phoenix from the ashes". It was said to resemble an eagle, with feathers partly red and partly golden. The Phoenix flies from Arabia to the Temple of the Sun (Ra) in Heliopolis in Egypt every 500 years to bury its father encased in myrrh. And there only is a father because the Phoenix begets itself. The tale of the Phoenix actually rising from its own ashes is related in a 4th century CE Roman text called "The Phoenix":

...the pyre conceives the new life; Nature takes care that the deathless bird perish not, and calls upon the sun, mindful of his promise, to restore its immortal glory to the world. Straightway the life spirit surges through his scattered limbs; the renovated blood floods his veins. The ashes show signs of life; they begin to move though there is none to move them, and feathers clothe the mass of cinders. He who was but now the sire comes forth from the pyre the son and successor; between life and life lay but that brief space wherein the pyre burned. His first delight is to consecrate his father's spirit by the banks of the Nile and to carry to the land of Aegyptus (Egypt) the burned mass from which he was born.

Sirens

The Seirenes or Sirens were depicted as birds with either the heads or entire upper bodies of women. They are well-known from the Odyssey for their enchanting song.

Lovely Terpsichore, one of the Muses, had borne them [the Sirens] to Akheloos, and at one time they had been handmaids to Demeter's gallant Daughter [Persephone], before she was married, and sung to her in chorus. But now, half human and half bird in form, they spent their time watching for ships from a height that overlooked their excellent harbour; and many a traveller, reduced by them to skin and bones, had forfeited the happiness of reaching home. Apollonios Rhodios, Argonautika 4.892

The shape of the Sirens, a bird with a woman's head, was popular as a vessel for perfumes and cosmetics.

Stymphalian Birds

The Stymphalian Birds were a flock of man-eating birds of prey which lived around Lake Stymphalis in Arkadia on the Peloponnese. Herakles had to deal with them for the sixth of his twelve labours:

Herakles was stumped by the problem of driving the birds out of the woods, but Athena got some bronze noise-makers from Hephaistos and gave them to him, and by shaking these from a mountain adjacent to the lake frightened the birds. Not enduring the racket, they flew up in fear, and in this manner Herakles reached them with his arrows. Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 2.92

The Stymphalian Birds were sometimes identified with the arrow-shooting Birds of Ares that were encountered by the Argonauts (see above).

According to Pausanias' Description of Greece there was also an old sanctuary of Stymphalian Artemis in Stymphalos and near the roof of her temple the Stymphalian birds had been carved.

Stela BM 147 has a depiction of Taimhotep worshipping Sokar-Osiris, Apis, Isis, Nephtys, Horus, Anubis and a symbol of the West. The text on the stela is 21 lines long and tells of Taimhotep's life. She was born in the 9th regnal year of Ptolemy XII Auletes; her father was apja Khahapi, a priest of Ptah, Min, Khnum-Ra and Horus, her mother was Herankh, a musician of the Ptah temple. She had a brother, High Priest Pasherienamun I and a sister called Taneferher, who married each other; a further possible brother is the scribe Horemhotep.[7] In the 23rd regnal year, at the age of fourteen (July 25, 58 BCE)[8] she married the High Priest of Ptah, Pasherienptah III, and had three daughters and a son by him. Her children are named on the stela BM 377: the son Imhotep-Pedubast and the daughters Berenike, Herankh (nicknamed Beludje) and Kheredankh.[9] It is known that Kheredankh was not her daughter, as she was born to Pasherienptah seven years before his marriage to Taimhotep, and her name was inscribed on the stela erroneously in place of her actual third daughter Her'an (nicknamed Tapedibast), whose name can be found on another stela of her father (Ash. M. 1971/18).[8]

After the birth of her third daughter she prayed to Imhotep, an Old Kingdom sage who was deified in later centuries, for a son. Her prayers were answered and her son was born in 46 BCE, the 6th regnal year of Cleopatra VII. Taimhotep died four years later.[4][5] On her stela Taimhotep laments her untimely death and asks her husband to enjoy life while he can; this is the longest ancient Egyptian text of this kind. From her husband's two stelas it is known that he survived his wife by only one year.[4] Their son Imhotep-Pedubast became High Priest of Ptah in 39 BCE but died young only nine years later.[10

Timeline

Ancient Egypt: 18th Dynasty, 14th Century B.C.E

1341 B.C.E Prince Atem is born to Pharaoh Akhenamkhanon and Royal Chief Wife Nefertari in Thebes.

1337 B.C.E 4 years old. Atem begins his training in the Temples of Amun and Ra with the persistence of his mother. He meets his aunt for the first time as well as other members of his family from his mother’s side who had entered the priesthood.

Royal Chief Wife Nefertari starts to instruct her son personally on physical combat.

1336 B.C.E 5 years old.  Royal Chief Wife Nefertari is murdered during the attack by the Hittites in a remote village a week after Atem’s name day celebration.

A month later. The proposition for the items constructions is put forward by High Priest Akhenaden and his co-conspirators. Pharaoh Akhenamkhanon, unknowingly, approves of the slaughter of the 99 villagers of Kul Elna.

A week later. The creation of the Millennium Items is complete after 7 days and nights. The items are presented to Pharaoh Akhenaden and then distributed to his court.

Three days later. The battle with the Hittites hits a peak, as they attempt to storm Thebes only to be thwarted back by the powers of the Millennium Items. Pharaoh Akhenamkhanon bears the puzzle.

1336 - 1330 B.C.E. 5-11 years old. Atem continues his studies as the successor to the throne. Several attempts on his life are made during this time

6 years old. Atem meets Mahad and Mana for the first time.

His training at the temples continued as it was a request from his late mother, however, the guards around him increased. Mana and Mahad accompany him. He stays at the temples several months out of the year. He starts to learn from the Temples of Isis, Set, Sekhmet, and Sobek.

His combat training is continued with the help of his aunt and a distant relative from Nubia.

An Egyptian Asp is spotted in the royal gardens and attempts to bite the young prince. Mahad takes the bite instead and Atem sucks the poison out of the wound.

7 years old. The search for a bride for Prince Atem is started though not as heavily as the court would like. Pharaoh Akhenamkhanon insists that Prince Atem should marry who he loves. This causes friction between the Pharaoh and the noblemen.

An attempt on Atem’s like is taken during the Festival of Sekhmet. The assassin entered the festivities disguised as a servant to the nobility and royal family during the evening. A drink meant for the consumption of all children present was poisoned when given to Prince Atem. Fortunately, the wielder of the Millennium Necklace foresaw it, and the perpetrator was seized. No children were harmed and security was increased. All food and drink that is to be presented to the royal family since this incident was to be made by staff from the palace.

A later celebration for a member of his father’s court takes place. Atem meets several of his potential brides at the event much to his father’s dissatisfaction. The young prince however doesn’t appear to be bothered meeting his potential brides, even though he does not think of them as such

8 years old. Atem is taught the dances that are performed during important rituals and festivals for the Gods. He is then allowed to perform them for their respected purposes.

Atem is sent to Iunu (Heliopolis) where the cult of Atum and Ra is prevalent. Because of his status as heir to the throne and similar naming to their Gods, Atem is treated with high respect and near blinding devotion. It is the first time that the young prince is treated as a divine being, instead of just a royal.

Learns the rituals for the ashes of the Bennu bird, which he performs with each turn of the seasons.

Potential brides for the young prince are sent to the palace in Inebu-Hedj against Pharaoh Akhenamkhanon wishes. However, the pressures of the noble houses and those within his inner court are amounting, as a need for the royal bloodline to continue grows. The Pharaoh’s age makes them concerned.

As Atem has returned from his travels through the various temples across the nomes, he is now seen often by his father’s side.

His responsibilities as successor increases. He is seen taken part in court proceedings to pass judgements against individuals and accompanies his father in royal matters with the leaders of various nomes.

1330 - 1327 B.C.E. 11-13 years. His life as a successor does not become easier. His circle of companions decreases to only to those within the palace walls. Atem experiences loneliness and a need for companionship, however his feelings for his birthright weigh against him.

A-T-2 414 Becoming Manuel Göttsching

It's very sad to hear of Manuel Göttsching's death. As far as I know Göttsching didn't release anything in 1982 but he did play on a few records by other artists. In 1981 he'd played guitar on the album Tonwelle by Richard Wahnfried for the Innovative Communication (IC) label. Richard Wahnfried is a pseudonym used by Klaus Schulze and IC is a record label he founded. Klaus Schulze had been a founding member of Ash Ra Temple with Manuel Göttsching and Hartmut Enke in 1970. Manuel Göttsching was the mainstay of Ash Ra Temple and Ashra (a name variation Virgin Records insisted on) and one of the most influential guitarists in Krautrock. Back to 1982 and Klaus Krüger (who had been the drummer for Tangerine Dream in the late 1970s) invites Manuel Göttsching to play guitar on his second IC album Zwischenmischung. Some of the time Manuel Göttsching's guitar doesn't sound like guitar at all, just listen to Quasarsphere from his 1975 album Inventions for Electric Guitar this is few years before Small Hours by John Martyn and it's all electric guitar

Manuel Göttsching will be remembered not only for his guitar playing but also releasing what some people (quite a lot of people) consider the first electronic dance music album E2-E4

Just as members of British prog bands were moving into the studio to produce up-and-coming new wave acts (A-T-2 075), Krautrock musicians were working with NDW acts. The track Geile Tiere by Geile Tiere was initially released in 1980 and again in 1982, it was mixed by Manuel Göttsching and he is credited as contributing some synthesizer
