Yess!! I'm finally done!!!

This AU concept has been brain rotting my brain for the past few days and I finally had the courage to draw it hshshsh

Okay so before I start rambling. I just have to note to you that English isn't my first language so if my explanation ends up confusing you. You can just ask me in the ask box! It's open anytime! And If you're not into uh 'x reader's' then this is actually not for you :D

So before I start explaining I'm just gonna say that this version of reader is a completely different version of her from the original concept. In which in the original concept reader dissappears without a word after an incident had happen involving a prince and his bestfriend to which she views them as siblings of her own. Basically an AU from an original AU (?)

In this AU however, our reader went completely insane after the tragic lost leading her to her own demise (mentally and physically).

In summary, she basically started distancing herself from her family (Mom goat and Papa goat) by locking herself in the bedroom where their siblings used to reside.

Of course, none of her parents thought any of it being abnormal because that's what someone normally does when they grieve, they isolate themselves to give it time to take everything in. And after reality practically smacked them in the face that their siblings may be gone forever. That's where things started to get very interesting...

And by interesting, I mean she basically started illegally experimenting on monster souls in secret without her family knowing about it. The main reason for it is because her main goal is to find a way to revive her siblings even if the has to use her own soul to do it on way or another and to her the 'bonus' of it is by discovering something 'new' every single day and despite everything she continues to preservere to reach that said goal.

So yeah this AU overall is basically 'what if' reader stayed and went insane instead of dissappearing without a trace.

(side note: in this AU Toriel and Asgore are still together and that was practically only for the sake of their only child remaining from the incident. She's practically the only thing keeping the family from separating. And the fact that she may never be able to meet their love interest/SOULmate in a few years from now in this timeline. Another side note: not gonna lie @semisolidmind made me realise how I'm not that much of a self shipper either due to how I don't really see myself in most of my characters cause their all basically viewed as 'reader' or 'y/n' to me. Does that make sense?)

Noelle and Chara Parallels

TW: Abuse, manipulation, murder, genocide, bad romance.

Noelle and Chara are interesting characters in similar situations of being manipulated into mass murder / thinking murder is okay. Quite a chilling concept! here are a few subtle parallels between them, plus bonus sections that gets a bit more speculative. Let's get right into it.

1: Coming When Their Name Is Called

Chara states, after you do two genocide runs, that they are "the demon that comes when people call its name." That would suit their role in Undertale (endorsing the Narrachara theory) where they begin narrating for us shortly after we name the fallen human. And Noelle seems to come when she's called as well. In the Spamton Neo fight, we call for help from Ralsei and Susie, to no avail. (The game specifically says, "You called for help...but nobody came.") Then we whisper Noelle's name and Spamton is frozen by Noelle's Ice Shock.

Bonus: We don't see Noelle do this, just like how we don't see Chara come at the beginning of the game either. Interestingly, we're able to see Noelle as soon as we meet up with her and only at the end is she out of our vision. Meanwhile in Undertale, we don't see Chara at all until the end, when we finally meet them face to face. Additionally, we meet up with Noelle fairly soon after beginning the game, but she isn't there right away. Neither is Chara, who begins narrating for us only after the first Flowey fight.

2: Being Angels

It's no secret about Noelle that she's surrounded by angelic themes. Spamton calls her "angel," she states on the Ferris wheel that she'd like to chuck herself off the Ferris wheel and "grow angel wings and fly away," and her outfit in the Dark World resembles an angel. Many have suggested she will be the Angel whose Heaven we, according to Ralsei's prophecy, have to banish. Meanwhile, Chara was one of the candidates for the role of "Angel" in Undertale's prophecy. Since they came from the Surface, many monsters would probably have expected Chara to be the angel who would free them. The Underground, as a storyteller states, was full of hope. Of course Chara failed at freeing monsterkind, and the prophecy angel turned out to be either Asriel or Frisk, depending on who you ask, or maybe it's the both of them. (That's a topic for another post.)

Bonus: What's really, really interesting is that there is so much evidence that Noelle will be the Angel, which makes me wonder if she really will be the Angel, or if the game will pull a 1'80 and it'll be Kris or Susie or something. Or maybe the role of Angel will be shared between a couple people, like it may or may not have been in Undertale--again it's not entirely clear on who the Angel is in Undertale. If she doesn't turn out to the Angel after all, then it would line up really nicely with Chara being someone that everybody thought was the angel but turned out to not be.

3: Twisted Romance

This one is a bit more debatable based on how you interpret Chara's lines in Undertale.

In Deltarune, our language and actions suggest Noelle as a romantic partner. We buy her a ring and convince her to "get" a ring. We pressure her into riding the Ferris wheel with us. And when asked if she and Kris are friends, we refer to her as "something else." This adds a theme of twisted romance to an already horrifying dynamic.

A lot of people are just so freaked out by Chara's unnerving encounter to analyze the lines much, which is...definitely understandable to be honest. But you'll notice that Chara refers to us as their "partner," stating that you'll be together forever. Both Frisk (who we are/are possessing, which is, again, a subject for another post) and Chara are referred to with gender-neutral terms and pronouns. "Partner" is often used gender neutrally to describe a romantic partner. Chara also has pink cheeks, which could be interpreted as either blushing or just natural color to their cheeks. Frisk and Chara both also share a (potential, in Frisk's case) mother figure and father figure, plus they are literal children. If that's not twisted romance, I don't know what is.

4: Getting Stronger

Chara states that together, you eradicated the enemy and became strong. This is how they refer to killing monsters. Meanwhile, Noelle refers to freezing Darkners as "getting stronger." Even the narration of this game states "Noelle became stronger."

In conclusion, both Chara and Noelle are manipulated into thinking murder is okay, have links to angelicism, may or may not be in a bad romance with the player character, and view killing as gaining strength, by the time we're done with them. Some of these are a bit shaky, but I'd say at least the first one is pretty definite.

Or at least that's my undertake, reverse salutations and have a nice day.

I know I said I wasn't going to post Asriel and Chara until actual comics are released but uhhh. Guess I'm a liar.

Content warning for mentions of CSA, suicide, emotional abuse (or at the very least, a very unhealthy and codependent dynamic), and self harm.

As prince of the Underground, Asriel Dreemurr was pretty well-liked by other kids, but there was definitely a disconnect that kept him from really connecting with them. His loneliness ended, though, when a human, Chara, fell into his life. The two were inseperable, and Asriel was the only person Chara ever trusted enough to confide in.

But as time went on, problems began to arise. When he started developing a crush on Noelle Holiday, Chara became extremely possessive. To keep him from asking her out (which would, in their eyes, lead to him seeing that there are better friends than them and leaving as a result), they began dating Noelle before Asriel could, until Noelle's mom caught them making out during the Holidays' Christmas visit with the Dreemurrs (and without the excuse of mistletoe? Scandalous!). The Holidays stopped coming over after that, much to Asgore's dismay. He would really miss Rudy in the following years...

The Noelle drama caused a huge rift in Asriel and Chara's relationship, but as Chara made the excuse that they were just sparing Asriel the hurt of knowing that Noelle wouldn't date him anyway since she doesn't even like boys, Asriel silently resigned and tried their best to sweep it under the rug.

One day, Chara told Asriel that they were genuinely sorry about what happened, but they couldn't really forgive themself, so in order to make up for all the hurt they caused him, they constructed a plan to save the entire Underground. Chara would kill themself and give Asriel their soul, and all he would have to do is pass through the barrier and get six more human souls. Asriel refused to let Chara die, but they insisted it was the only way things would be better for everybody. Besides, he wouldn't want to rob his family, his people, of what was likely their only way to be free, right? They thought he was better than that.

And thus, Chara died. Panicked, Asriel tried to absorb their soul and carry out the plan, but they just... Couldn't. The intense fear he had kept his from from accepting the soul. So he gave it to Asgore and Toriel, ran off to the rose garden Chara liked to hang out in, and joined them in death, unable to live without their best friend and feeling like it was his fault for being unable to stop them.

Should SB!Underlust's version of the true pacifist route (the Chastity route? still working on the name) be completed, Posey uses the souls of all monsterkind in order to fuse with Rosey and become Asriel again, but their combined soul isn't truly back to how it once was, even if their body is. "Asriel" remains in this new plural state and will eventually see the surface, just not yet. Rosey thanks Frisk for being the friend he always wanted and Posey plans to one day be able to let go of the hurt Chara had left him with.

The horrific circumstances that led Chara into the world of monsters, from their trauma to the lack of support, left them desperate for a feeling that they were in control: over their body, over their emotions, everything. Part of that relationship they had with Noelle wasn't just out of jealousy, but also being able to engage with intimacy in a way that wouldn't be faced with rejection as Noelle would be on board with the more intense side of Chara if only as a way to rebel against her strict mom.

Chara often buried their distress through not just sexuality, but also self-injury as ANY feeling was better than the ones plaguing their mind.

Ever since Alphys's experiments, they have been reduced to the void that exists within everybody, the constant need to not feel empty.

Should the Conquest route (SB!Lust's "genocide" equivalent) be taken, the once dormant remains of Chara's soul will become aware again, brought to life by the new human's desire to get some sort of stimulus out of a world whose options have been exhausted.

I get why people wish Asgore and Toriel became a couple again, I imagine they were very cute and nice as a couple, great parents. But goddamn if Toriel doesn't despise him snsjshh.

Thankfully they seem to be on friendly terms now! Which makes me happy, and with this context I understand the ship a lot more. But before the alarm clock dialogue was released, Toriel really took every opportunity to diss him in game (NOT insulting Toriel or anything, just stating the facts) they were chilling in the credits and all that but that didn't tell much about the nature of the currently relationship at the time.

I think you toriel/asgore shippers are a strong bunch, cause man, canon content is not treating you all too well.

I'm a soriel shipper myself so I'm doing great personally but ndjmsj.

Speaking of Soriel, this post is about undertale. Toriel x Asgore in deltarune is a WHOLE other can of worms.

i was just thinking. when you realize that asriel refused to fight the human villagers not out of pacifism, but because he didn’t want to start another war between humans and monsters, it adds a whole nother layer to asgore’s declaration of war. he betrayed his son by starting the very thing he died to prevent. hmm. i guess that’s another thing to add to the long list of things keeping the old man up at night

You already know me, inside and out. You've reveled in my warmth on cold autumn days, sought shelter in my knit when strangers came knocking, pulled and chewed and frayed my fibres when it all became too much to bear.

Oh, but there's no need to apologise! Any comfort I could provide was well worth any pain you might have caused.

I remember our first meeting well - do you? I was a little large for you, arms swamped by voluminous sleeves that trailed behind you like woolen tails. How charming you must have seemed, your family's faces beaming down upon you! You complained that I smelled too much like your brother. I wonder if his scent takes you back to that happier time.

I knew I loved you then - your mischievous streak a mile wide, swaddled so utterly by my expansive weave. I would be your fortress, your partner-in-crime, a place to return to when you could no longer feel his hugs.

And slowly, surely, you grew into me... my contours fit snugly into yours, almost as if I were made for you and no-one else. And perhaps one day you might outgrow me entirely - I hope that you will have someone that you can pass me down to when that time comes.

But until then, my dear, let us continue to enjoy the time we have together, here in this well-worn woolly embrace.

Thinking about. Toriel.

Yeah Toriel is a helicopter mom but there's so much more to her

Don't get me wrong, it is fun to have her be much more protective than she needs to be and how she just. Adopts everyone she sees but can you blame her?

She had a heavily implied to be suicidal child, had them and her first son die at the same time, her son brutally killed for a misunderstanding, then had her husband betray her and swear the death of all humans, and then her people betray her and agree with Asgore's rule, then had a bunch of young children that she grew attached to, and quite possibly had them for longer (no one said they all left immediately) where she had to say goodbye and having then killed, seen as just another soul to break the barrier with, and not the children they were. Wouldn't you become overly protective too?

We know Chara and Asriel because they are still around, but we never know those 6 kids.

They're just souls to us. Dead humans. We never once wonder who they were, and likely no one else did. But Toriel knew them. Toriel LOVED them. And now, they're just souls to everyone.

Can you blame her for leaving or being as emotional as she is? She's lost everything and those who weren't lost betrayed her. She's such a good character and no one talks about her

Deltarune AU idea: Kris is from outside of hometown, and they stumble upon the town one day when travelling around, they've never met any monsters before but thinks they're all super cool when they meet them, much more interesting than the humans they grew up with, they then meet Toriel who like almost instantly emotionally adopts them when she hears they're an orphan
