KPOP FIC RECS

So I recently (like a couple of months ago) read Bowie’s Books by John O’Connell which is a series of essays exploring David Bowie’s list of 100 Books that transformed his life and I thought it was a way to make my own. These are all fics (in some way or another) that have been memorable in many different ways and I hope to share them with you all.

This is also a full on sap train so I thought you should be ready. I’m also weirdly nervous since this feels kind of vulnerable and makes me shy. but haiii

1. @hyuckiebabie - Bad Intentions | NCT (discontinued) 

Of course, I have to start with this. I have to. I’ve also just learnt that author-nim has since left tumblr. But the writing was beautiful and the connection that Haechan and the MC had with each other was absolutely alluring. God I felt things I have never felt before. This was quite awhile ago and I’m kind of sad I can’t reread it to boost my memory a bit more but I was super excited for every update. But aww I wish you could all read it even though it was discontinued, it still remains very memorable for me. 

2.  @beom1e​ - Love Is Not Easy | TXT (completed)

The fic that made me obsess over TXT fics for a very large portion of the year. I read it again and it’s so chaotic and erratic in the best way. I love these boys with all my heart and it was so fun to be able to read it and connect to it. There were different endings that were all really fun. The very first time I was a very big Yeonjun supporter but nowadays I feel a more Beomgyu lean. Hmm, I don’t know. So many options. Can’t forget about Soobin either. The best kind of crossroad ever. 

3. @dovechim - That’s Okay That’s Love | BTS (ongoing)

No because I’m frustrated my original comments about this didn’t save. I remember reading this and it was the first time I had read something involving mental health so blatantly and it just felt oddly satisfying. What I liked the most about this fic however was the way that every character was interwoven within the story without the sole purpose of their existence to be a ‘friend’ to the main character and give advice and put some sense into them nor to invoke drama. I liked that they each have their own story and plot and it’s so majestically done that I always have to applaud this story for it.

4. @jayflrt - The A List | ENHYPEN (one-shot) 

Ahhh yes, I finally get to talk about this. This was one of the first ENHYPEN fics I read and it definitely helped me stan them to the level I did. I love the ....friendship between the MC and Jay. I love the taste of the whole fic in general - the rich people shit and the drama and the need to just not be made into a total loser by an anonymous source. I’m not even being dramatic but this fic has a taste and it’s absolutely fucking wonderful I’m salivating. 

5. @fantasybangtan​ - Queen Cobra | BTS (ongoing) 

One of my utmost favourite writers on Tumblr and in general. I love this story with all my heart and it made me a total * girl. This fic always manages to have a hook on me in more ways than one and I was so excited to see that a chapter has been updated since I last read it. I hope to god you never stop writing. Ever. Such a talented person and a very special one at that. I sound a bit like teachers comments in student reports and I’m sorry. But I hope you feel how sincere I am in my recommendations to read this fic. You have to. Absolute art. 

6.  @caramellohigh - Not Such A Good Boy | THE BOYZ (ongoing) 

This is my favourite depiction of Juyeon, like ever. I remember seeing three times before I actually read it. First it popped up in my dash just randomly, then it was recommended (not specifically to me) but I had been wanting to read a few fics. I thank whatever higher power exists for this fic. I can’t explain myself but like it’s so good. I love the whole golden sweet nice sunshine boy being this person who isn’t actually all that sunny and saintly trope. I don’t know the proper name for it but I loved this. I can’t wait for more chapters such an exciting fic, I couldn’t put this fic down for the life of me. I had a lot to do today but I didn’t do it because I was reading this hahaha best decision ever. 

7. @theluckyyyoneee​ - Antipode | EXO (completed) 

OH MY GOD I JUST SAW THERE’S AN UPDATED CHAPTER, I’M GOING TO READ IT NOW. Okay okay I’m going back to writing normally so I don’t look like an idiot, but I love this fic with all my heart. So so warm. I love that Chanyeol is just a literal puppy throughout the fic. God I hope to see this couple again. In any way. I’ll take it. I remember I first read this when Chanyeol went to the military and reading the final chapter when he’s back literally feels like all is right with the world. I adore this couple. And with the risk of sounding cheesy as hell, this story smells of pine and appears like Christmas lights in the night and I think that’s the cutest fucking thing. 

8. @jungblue - Future Hearts | BTS (ongoing) 

I’ll be honest, before I came to Tumblr I always ignored recommendations for fan fics - simply because I had different tastes to the person giving the recs (they were a bit too much for me) and I just liked that fan fics were just my terrain to freely explore the fics available without in some form being attached to someone else (i was going through some shit obviously). Then this fic showed up and I took a chance on it. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I fell in love with writing all over again. I thought of colours differently. Everything. was just so different. I was super invested in the story. I would say it became so definitive of the person I was at eighteen, when life started changing. So thank you author-nim. From your forever fan <3 I hope all is well with you, you deserve the whole world y’know. 

9. @sankyeom - Break Your Rules | THE BOYZ (completed)  

Okay okay so, I love Sunwoo with my whole heart and one of my favourite tropes is brother’s best friend (disclaimer : it reflects to my life in no shape, way or form but we love a good ol’ forbidden love without the death involved) I first read this on my other account and it’s always one I seek out if I want a little thrill and a happy ending. Also the side characters are so fucking funny, I loved reading them. This fic is the treat your aunty tells you she shouldn’t be giving you but does anyway and you love her with your whole heart. So wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. 

10. @chittapornswife​ - DYNL Club | NCT (ongoing) 

A fic I’m forever fond of, I think. I always used to read this whenever I would go to class and it would keep me from having panic attacks. It would always leave me feeling fluffy and energised enough to get through an hour (or longer) class (and it wasn’t like the class was terrible, it just made me anxious.) I always link this fic to good things, or at least like it’s a bridge from being less than okay to recovery which is kind of ironic considering the content. It also has Haechan in it, which I’m thankful for. This story helped build my love for him in a way, I think. I’m truly grateful. 

11. @desayunho​ - Time Of Love | ATEEZ (completed) 

Oh my god it was a struggle deciding what fic to use but I decided on this one. It’s so beautiful. Oh my god I loved it. I read ‘Lovefool’ before this one and just knew that I had to hop on this train too. Lovefool blew me away and I knew it would happen with this one too. Absolutely after my own heart. I’m not one for poly fics (not against them either, I just don’t normally read them) but AHHH I’m screaming. The dynamic. The everything. This fic is everything. Thank you and good night. I love San and Wooyoung and ATEEZ AND author-nim, a special place in my heart is reserved for you and your artistry. 

12. @ballelino - Wedding Season | STRAY KIDS (completed) 

With the risk of sounding absolutely delusional, this fic helped me well and truly realise that I am never ever going to move on from Lee Minho. Like ever. The fic left me feeling very vulnerable but well protected? I don’t know how to form words but...  Everything was just perfect. Truly a foundation. It’s a fic I want to read for the first time again for the feelings I felt and the sensations I was going through. Truly a magical ride. I’m not even being sappy - this is me being totally brutally honest. I loved it for lack of better words. You know that question that goes ‘If the words ‘I love you’ didn’t exist what would you use?’...This fic. That’s it. My new love language. 

13. @thepixelelf - Hood | THE BOYZ (completed) 

This was well and truly a rollercoaster.. god I could remember it. I was on the edge of my seat every update. I loved the whole friendship and the back and forth. Ever since that first chapter it has been a favourite of mine and has remained one of my favourites since then. Also it was literally a year spent together with a fic and I don’t know why but this makes me feel more attached and feel more love for this fic even more. It’s beautiful and it’s literally like cuddling a teddy bear. I don’t know how else to describe it. If I could hug any fic it would be this one. Cause it deserves everyone’s high praises and I want someone to experience reading this fic to experience it and just tell me what they thought and we can go nuts over it. 

14. @seokjinsdisciple - Who’s Your Daddy | ATEEZ (ongoing) 

What a rollercoaster of events. These ATEEZ fics (not even just this one) has a special place in my heart but I’m here to talk about this one in particular. It’s so incredibly cute and angsty at the same time. Anything you ask for in a fic, you get it practically. It’s everything. It gives me everything. It gives me life. Seventeen chapters in and I've already tried finding a wizard to turn me into a puddle on the floor because I can’t cope. It’s absolutely brilliant. Ahhhh- also one of the authors to open the new door for me in terms of social media aus. I never thought I’d be into them but I really am and a large part is due to author-nim so thank you for this medium of storytelling and doing such a good job every single time. No misses. 

15. @aspenwritesstuff - Prove Me Wrong | STRAY KIDS (ongoing) 

HOW COULD I NOT INCLUDE THIS. I can’t even remember how I came to read it but I remember reading it and being so hooked the very first chapter. I am also extremely affectionate of you, Aspen. This story and everything about it. I love it. It’s cute and fucking interesting and I’m just so hooked and excited I cannot wait to see how the rest of the story pans out. Like truly amazing. I’m going nuts over just thinking about it. Absolutely wonderful and just truly cute. I don’t know what else to say but it’s so cute. So fucking cute. Ahhhh. Just screaming and yelling and hollering at this point. LIKE YEAH THIS IS ME. THIS IS HOW EXCITED I CAN BE. Can’t wait, Aspen, honestly (take ur time tho <3) 

16. @gyukult​ - We Don’t Usually Hold Hands | SEVENTEEN (one-shot) 

So usually whenever I read Mingyu books I’m used to player Mingyu or sugar daddy esque-Mingyu who’s very cool. I’m not hating it. I still most likely would read it. But I never knew how much I needed a fic where I could actually see Mingyu in it and I think it’s perfect. I fell in love with this fic at first read and I think it’s actually changed the trajectory of my life forever. I’m not even being remotely funny. It really has. I don’t know - I loved the humour, I love just how casual the romance was. Like it felt so natural and just so Mingyu I don’t know what else to say without rambling. I feel like this fic is especially for those who don’t necessarily believe in romantic love, for those who do and in love with the idea of love and just everyone in between. So everyone basically. It’s a necessity. 

17. @kyufiber​ - How To Be A Heartbreaker | THE BOYZ (completed) 

God, I love this fic so much I don’t know what else to tell you. This is an Eric fic but it felt like more than just that. I’m a Sunwoo girl, have been from the very first video I saw of these guys but everyone just-. Let me tell you how PERFECT this fic is. It went exactly the way I wanted it but every update was a blessing and a gift. Like...is this music? No but I’m honestly always starstruck by this fic. I have no way of formulating proper sentences, it’s amazing. It’s so good. It’s so good. It’s honestly- GOD, especially if you’re an Eric person. This is for you. For all of you actually - read it! I’m begging with my whole chest, my whole soul, everything about me that is me - read it. 

18. @starrgaziinggg​ - Friends With Benefits | STRAY KIDS (ongoing) 

I can’t remember exactly remember the 6 W’s of how, where, when I found this fic. But all I remember is that it was a god send during my Minho phase (that is still in fact going, don’t get me wrong). Every new update is so fucking fun for me and definitely has me all up in there. I love this version of Minho. It’s one of my favourites. Absolutely. This fic has been a newfound love of mine and I’ve enjoyed falling in love with it every single chapter and I know that won’t ever change. I’m a bit speechless I don’t know what to say, currently I’m looking at it and I’m so excited to talk about it but all I am right now is a blubbering mess that can’t string two words together to make a single sentence. But I really appreciate this fic and I can’t wait for more updates! <3 

19. @wooyunhwa​ - Kingdom Of Welcome Addiction | ATEEZ (ongoing) 

Although it’s been a couple of years since the last update, I am still going to praise and praise this fic as if it’s my sole purpose in life. I love the way the characters are and how there’s a whole world away from everyone else - as if its just the three of them in this demon vs angel love affair. Don’t even get me started on the writing - it’s so beautiful, detailed and I love how humour is incorporated into it. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. It surprised me so much in such little but significant ways that I think sets apart this fic from others like it. Truly. 

20. @yeow6n - boyfriend!haechan tiktok series | NCT (ongoing) 

Ahhh my current go-to Haechan fic writer. God, I’m in love. Have you ever felt a connection with someone you haven’t talked to or anything but because you share that one thing you’re in it for life? This is it my friends. This. Every fic I’ve read is a love of mine and I’m so excited to write about it. They’re usually short and sharp but incredibly sweet and it just- it makes loving Donghyuck easier. Honestly author-nim came in at the right time and totally swept me off my feet. In love with it. In love with him. Stan author-nim for good Haechan content. Honestly I feel like calling you bestie which is one hundred percent out of character for me so I won’t - but I just want to let you know that the temptation was there and it was a strong one!

let me start you here, with the understanding that this isn’t - in any way shape or form - an essay, nor is it an attempt at such. i rather just want to blurt everything into writing regarding my thoughts of this incredibly crafted series, so my head may feel that bit lighter. because holy shit. i have a lot to say. and i cannot ask anything of you, but to believe me when i say i’m not one to sugarcoat my words, leaving you with only the purest of faith that everything i write here, i undoubtedly mean. with that trust in mind, i present to you a very unorganised mind dump (?) of mine from over the span of a fortnight of reading.

i had to pick this series up twice during its entirety as i had an unfortunate epiphany halfway through, and i only just registered the hefty loss i knew i was going to grieve over the moment my eyes gazed upon the last word, causing me to postpone reading as much as i could — which, if you should know, didn’t last for a full twenty-four hours either time. i managed five, perhaps six, at most.

if i had a physical copy of this series, a highlighter, and a shit ton of index tabs, i fear what would become of me. the author has this series so incredibly well written that every single sentence deserved highlighting and placing into a buzzfeed quiz titled, “choose a quote and we’ll guess the state of your mental health,” ‘cause fuck me, i had a lot of self reflection to do after some of the chapters. at least one thing is clear, both the characters and i need intense therapy. and maybe a warm bubble bath with a cute rubber duck.

however, i will spare you the sob story and list some of the quotes from this series i either, 1) cried about, or 2) added to my list of topics to bring up with my therapist when i see her next.

“constantly looking at the negatives will get you nowhere in life. just thinking: what’s going to go wrong? that’s a recipe for disaster, as is only thinking about the past. what went wrong in the past doesn’t necessarily mean that it will go wrong in the future.” — seonghwa to y/n, chapter 17.

“you love her. what is love compared to duty?” — jisung to seonghwa, chapter 33.

“you would do well not to romanticise love in such a way otherwise you will be sorely disillusioned. love contains the freedom to choose what you want without the other person making any decision for you.” — seonghwa to jisung, chapter 33.

“what makes me more deserving than the man who died for me?” — y/n to seonghwa, chapter 33.

“oh, darling, if you could see yourself through my eyes, you would know that you are the most deserving person in the universe.” — seonghwa to y/n, chapter 33.

i want to give you beautiful and happy memories, my darling. i want to see you smile everyday for the rest of my life, even if it’s just for a moment. i want so much for you, and selfishly, i want to be the one to give it all to you.” — san to y/n, chapter 41.

“in answering the haunting question of “what do you want from me”, perhaps, simultaneously, you want everything and nothing at all.” — chapter 41.

“whoever came up with the saying ‘the truth will set you free’ clearly should have left paragraphs worth of fine print detailing how atrocious and painful it would be before that freedom.” — chapter 45.

“should this be a monster of his hatred’s creation, you will put your hands to the clay and mold its grotesque features further into obscurity.” — about yeosang, chapter 45.

“do you wish for me to bear it on my shoulders so you can sleep comfortably at the devils side?” — hongjoong, chapter 47.

“if love is meant to be part of life, then why is it draining seonghwa of his?” — chapter 48.

perhaps i cried! honestly, the two most impactful quotes on this list for me were, “what is love compared to duty?” and “what makes me more deserving than the man who died for me?” i think they both represent this story in the most heart-rending, glorious and tragic way possible as everyone is trying to confront the demons of their past, but of course, there is no reward without sacrifice.

in a way, every crew member on the horizon sacrificed something — perhaps, in their own personal way but still, all their wounds are equal in validity, so they’re basically on the same playing field of what it means of sacrifice. y/n lost her memories. most of them lost their freedom. half of them were subdued to others control and dehumanised and belittled. and every backstory broke my heart the more the pieces were revealed throughout.

i’m praying as the story unfolds further, every member finds their own redemption and closure, and allows themselves the peace they’ve deserved from the very beginning — in whatever form that may take. i just want them to be happy. so, author, please leave my boys alone. they’re tired. i’m tired. my poor y/n has been through more shit than i can comprehend. we’re relying on you, love.

also, i want to lay out all my cards on the table right now and admit there are the two members i genuinely want to physically fight (fists ‘n all): yeosang and hongjoong. the pair of them i want to throw off the airlock myself, never mind them threatening to do it to me. watch me do it. firstly, starting with the former: what the fuck is my guy’s problem? i cannot count the amount of times i got punched in the gut, slammed against a wall, choked (not in that way, people), almost DIED because of this motherfucker, and for what? it’s not my fucking fault wooyoung and i are halves of one soul. like i asked for this shit? dude needs to get his shit together ASAP, and i’m not saying that for his behalf (even though i’m sure therapy would be very good for him), i’m saying it for my behalf. because best believe he tries me again, i will swing, and i will absolutely clock his crown jewels, no pun intended. i’ve been sparring with jongho recently, and he tells me i’ve gotten better. so don’t even try me, mate.

his ONLY redeeming feature and the last remaining bit of patience i have for him relies in how good he was in bed in chapter 45. that’s it. i don’t fucking blame wooyoung. for anything. because i understand it all.

secondly, the absolute audacity personified himself: kim hongjoong. him and i are on a poorly constructed rollercoaster at the moment where the worker is dozing off behind the control system. one minute, the man has me seething, and the next, i’m wildly attracted to him. and then he says something shitty and the rollercoaster starts again. they’re not allowing me off at all, so i suppose i’ll be here forever. unless… they solve their problems within the sheets. and hear me out, okay? it (kinda) worked for yeosang, so sex with the captain? how scandalous. and it would help let off some of that pent up frustration between the two of us — my frustration with him, mostly. he genuinely gets on my tits. but i love him.

(don’t think i forgot that bath scene, miss author.)

on note of that, i actually made a list in my notes app at the beginning of reading this series where i ranked how good the sex would be with each crew mate (that’s if she were to do it with all of them). however, i did remove the members we’ve already done it with, so here’s my hypothesis (of the members we still have yet to):

rank 5: mingi. cons include, haven’t actually had a proper conversation with him ever, he scares me still a bit, i wonder if he even knows my name. pros include, has the power for it, no doubt he’s probably amazing, but please take me to dinner first.

rank 4: jongho. cons include, dude is like my little brother, would be very very awkward during and afterwards, endless teasing from the others and i’m too sensitive for that right now. pros include, he’s a berserker so no doubt he has the capabilities in him, he’s not a touchy person, sigh.

rank 3: yunho. cons include, is still figuring out his feeling towards seonghwa and hongjoong, would hate to become between that, he’s my doctor so also very awkward. pros include, my man is hot as fuck, would be an absolute boss about aftercare and take it seriously (as he should), very romantic and sweet.

rank 2: wooyoung. cons include, yeosang would fuck me up, like seriously. i’d probably die. he’s half of my soul, so… no comment there. pros include, an absolute tease, the fucker, so caring, though he would definitely want yeosang there (is that a pro or con i can’t decide?).

rank 1: hongjoong. cons include, literally none. pros include, that man hates my fucking guts so no doubt i won’t be able to walk for the next month (not complaining), immediate bragging rights that i’ve fucked the scourge of the black sea yeah get fucked everyone hahaha, would genuinely ruin me, i get to sleep in the captains bed like how exciting is that? i haven’t even been in his quarters never mind his bed! will be a very interesting and intense chapter.

now, moving on to later in the series with that choice with the serum for mingi. i simply cannot fathom the amount of voice messages i recorded over this. it was gobsmacking to me that everyone was against her for wanting mingi to have a choice, instead of lacking him of such a ghastly thing apparently. she didn’t want to deprive him of making his own decisions and deciding his own fate, and the fact the entire crew got mad at her for it, knowing they didn’t even ask for his consent in the first place?! nah, i have beef with all of them at this point. literally fight me, i don’t care that you’re pirates. i’m a raging woman, i’m worse. and don’t even get me started on the jisung and hyunwoo ordeal. actually, let me start a new paragraph for this one because it’s gonna be a long one.

the whole situation is genuinely indescribable of how upsetting it was (not to me, but to y/n. well, i guess to me also, then). hyunwoo is very much worse than jisung, but jisung still fucked up from his shitty choice of decisions. y/n’s backstory is very unsettling and she’d never really had a solid ground and people to rely on, until she had her team in the military. perhaps they weren’t exactly a family, but they cared for each other. and that was enough. but, what hurts the most is she genuinely believed they were good people (i quote: “hyunwoo was like a brother to me”), trusted them wholeheartedly, openly defended them, and even spent years of her life to pardon the guy she thought died for her (ouch). in return, they manipulated her, backstabbed her to the gods, and planned on injecting her a third time to keep the good image she had of them for their own benefit— fuck me, i’m seething just writing this. however, i too, am mourning their deaths for the sake of y/n. they were the closest thing to family to her, and knowing hyunwoo had a family of his own… but, i guess the lesson we learnt here is once you make your bed, you have to lie in it.

i realise this story isn’t over yet, but so far, it was been such a incredible ride. the world-building is out of this world— can we take a moment of appreciation for the google docs of each planet? what. i’m so excited for what’s to come, but i just wanted to share everything. i have cried too many times over this series that it felt like a reblog wasn’t enough appreciation for me. i wanted to do more. my love language is words of affirmation for a reason!

main points of this rant (of sorts):

if hongjoong and yeosang piss me off any further it’s on sight. there’s nothing scarier than a woman whose been messed with for too long, i’ll tell you that.

i fucking loathe hyunwoo, and i hate jisung slightly less, but i mourn for them also. and for the sake of my own pride, i will not enclose how hard i sobbed over that scene. i will not. ever.

hongjoong and y/n need to fuck already. there i said it. the tension is too much i’m sure mingi could sense it from another fucking planet.

san and wooyoung and jongho deserve the world. i love those sweethearts. they could never do me wrong. i will love them ‘til the end of time.

the yeosang sex chapter was everything and more. etched in my mind eternally. incredible.

i’m so mad i can’t add this to my shakespeare series as it’s not a bts fanfic, but i am seriously thinking about making a series for ateez just to add this in there. should it be charles dickens or jane austen? ahh, don’t tempt me, please.

that’s it! a literal dump of my entire thought process going through this 48 chapter-ed (for now) series! i wanna take a moment to thank @hongism for spending her time writing and creating a piece of art for us. i, and many others, owe it to you :) we appreciate you so much.

So I recently (like a couple of months ago) read Bowie’s Books by John O’Connell which is a series of essays exploring David Bowie’s list of 100 Books that transformed his life and I thought it was a way to make my own. These are all fics (in some way or another) that have been memorable in many different ways and I hope to share them with you all.

This is also a full on sap train so I thought you should be ready. I’m also weirdly nervous since this feels kind of vulnerable and makes me shy. but haiii

1. @/ - ??? | BTS (status : unknown) 

This story starts as a mission to take down CEO JK. The mission is successful despite the fact that the two fall in love. There’s also a sequel I desperately want to read but I am unsure whether or not it’s been written or not. I also can’t seem to find the original fic. I remember the layout so clearly but no success. It’s got about three parts. But it’s amazing and I am as excited now as I was then when I found out a next part was coming. I remember reading it the first year I discovered tumblr fan fics and have never stopped thinking about it since. 

2. @thedaffodilfields - Hymm Of The High Seas | ATEEZ (discontinued)  

So author-nim deleted their account (or they relocated I’m not too sure on the details) and I’ll tell you when I saw it I felt distraught in the way it felt like sand slipping through my fingers. The brief rundown is that this story is about a siren who bonds with a crew of pirates and is I guess going through her own rite of passage to discover her true identity. It was amazing. It was so beautifully written that I can’t help but mourn over it. So beautiful. The setting and the place and the gradual build up of trust and friendship that borders between familial love and platonic love and romantic love. I miss this fic a lot. 

3. @yminie - Feedback | BTS (one-shot) 

This was one of my first stories I ever read on Tumblr and the reason I continued and started keeping a document tracking all the fics I read because I read a lot of them and my first ever tumblr crush ever. My first love of tumblr, if you will. The fic is so fun and exciting. When I first read it, it was so nasty (in the utmost best way) to me and I related to the main character a lot - the act just never appealed to me until I read it. Not to mention I was being bias wrecked by both boys at the time... But it felt so out of depth for me but I felt comfortable and looked after and it felt fun. I got really into it. Reading it four years later is a whole different experience. I think this fic was an inevitable to me. 

4. @najaemism - Heart Can’t Lose | NCT (ongoing) 

I found this fic at the very start of the year and very quickly it became a part of my heart and of me. Usually I’d keep the member a secret but as a sunflower, it’s just really hard to keep Haechan’s name out of my mouth. This story is impeccable, the writing, the effort...everything. This Haechan also has this weird hold on me - very college boyfriend vibes and everything. I love all the characters no matter how small of a part or big of a part they have. But I truly felt like I was falling in love with Haechan or at least rekindling. It sounds a bit delulu but it feels like the biggest reconnection of my sunflowerness and to Haechan (which is weird cause i never stopped nor dwindled) but idk it’s an amazing fic and I’m so grateful I found it. Thank you for this Haechan <3 Will never ever forget him nor stop loving him. 

5. @luvrbin - Princess’ Journal | THE BOYZ (completed) 

My Jelly baby <3 Haven’t seen you around in awhile, I hope you’re doing fine. One thing in particular springs to mind right now;  the fact that my tags I had sputtered in the spur of the moment revealed that I was from New Zealand right away (in my defence - those characters really did deserve a hiding) It was amazing to connect through that - I really wasn’t expecting it. I was so so ecstatic reading this story and discovering the person behind it as well. One of the best decisions I had ever made was reading this story and reading the TXT one as well. But this one is really just amazing and I loved it. Love you. 

6. @envirae - Have We Met Before? | ENHYPEN (ongoing) 

I remember reading the synopsis like wholly fuck yes I have to read that (sorry for the cursing). Every time a chapter is uploaded it feels like a real treat and I re-read it over and over again, rest a couple of days and then read the whole thing. A bit obsessive and unhealthy but we love it no matter how much it hurts. It’s so interesting to find how the story pans out, I have a habit of trying to predict how it goes but am always left flabbergasted. Sometimes it’s like ‘omg I got it right?’ and then a couple of chapters in I get completely blindsided. It’s an amazing series of events and I am so damn whipped over the story. An amaaaazing story and can’t wait for more chapters. 

7. @velvetsehun - Born To Die | EXO (ongoing) 

This fic brings back memories and I’m currently having another read through and it feels like I’m having a conversation with myself from 2 years ago. It felt like my 2020 was this fic and this fic alone. I read it again last night and I dreamed about mafia! EXO. I read a lot of mafia fics in this time period because of this fic and though there are endless fics that are just as well written, I will always come back to this one and re-read it. There’s just something about this one I can’t explain. I love the main character especially. One of my favourite main characters ever to be written and I’m loving the pull between the two main leads. But I feel like there is a pull between the main character and other side(?) characters and I froth over it. Beautiful. A fic I will stay forever for. 

8. @tayegi - Elements | BTS (ongoing) 

This is one of the first fics I ever read on this website! I used to use my very old (not even fan one) account so I could read it - which eventually would lead to this one. I love the interaction of different genres - the subtle flirting, the platonic, the fantasy, the school side of things. This fic reminds me why I love these boys so much and that I miss them. It’s been awhile since this fic was updated but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop recommending this or stop raving about how good it is and how every BTS fan (or not BTS fan) should read it at least once. Honestly what a legend. 

9. @mistymark - Vigilante/s | NCT (ongoing)

This is another fic I had another re-read of recently! Although the boys are largely emotionally unavailable, you can’t help but give most of your heart to them anyway. It kind of gave me the best of Shameless vibes - like there’s dysfunction but perhaps that’s not a bad thing. That there’s family and there’s love in a different way. I’m also going to take the sunflower opportunity and point out Haechan in this fic has been one of my favourite portrayals of Haechan and it gives me life. Also kind of unrelated but I’m obsessed with your little tidbits into your personal life and your thoughts and your whole entire masterlist. I assure you, any type of fic you gravitate towards Aspen has it (love your name so let’s shout out how much I love it). 

10. @santheestallion - Sex Ed | ATEEZ (completed) 

Originally, I was going to include ‘His To Take’ but after reading ‘Sex Ed’ I changed my mind. This ATEEZ member is the very definition of warm and I sincerely hope that everyone can find someone in their life that will ignite you in the way that he does. I really hope so. As for the writing, it’s the exact same. There’s a kind of warmth to the words that are written and the person who wrote them. This relationship/connection is one I find so important and it made reading these words almost unconscious. I was at my most relaxed and lighthearted and it felt so good to just feel like a feather floating in the air. There’s an amazing feeling attached to this fic and I want to share it with everyone. 

11. @wooyukh - Loved | TXT (completed) 

The most chaotic yet loveable couple I’ve ever shipped together. It’s the moods that co-exist for me. Shipping them so hard together that anything but is terribly offensive. Shipping them to the point the relationship is irritating. Like we love honeymoon but cmon my eyes. It was so funny and lovely but so in touch with my inner feelings towards *. What else to say except they’re beautiful - they’re both the same person. I loved every celebration for every minor change. Would I ever do it in real life to my significant other? Hell no. But did I love every single minute of this couple doing it? Yes. In total honesty another fun fic that I feel only good things for.

12. @readyplayerhobi - Flower | BTS (completed)

There was so many options, so many I may have to recommend more some other time BUT I had to put Flower. I had to. The main relationship within this fic is everything, means everything. The way they learnt about each other and learnt how to navigate the other and themselves in a way they’ve never quite allowed themselves to before really touched me for some reasons. I have never been touched in such a way before so it’s a new experience. I don’t know how to articulate it at all but it’s there and it’s wonderful and I want everyone to experience the same. For me it was this fic and I want someone else to find that feeling for themselves. 

13. @talkbykhalid - To : All The Boys I’ve Loved Before | ATEEZ (discontinued)

I literally found out it was discontinued today but nevertheless it’s going on here still. I’ve read a lot of this concept but this one stuck. It’s been one of my favourite fics for a long time. I loved all the different dynamics. I love the concept of having different people that influence you in different ways. I’ve always adored it. I will forever adore this story and this author 💕. I’m sad that you’re discontinuing but I’m happy that it’s because its essentially because you’re more interested in others and to plan it. Talk about writing growth and it’s one I support with my whole heart <3. 

14. @yeoldontknow - 143 I Want You | EXO (one-shot) 

Before this, I was used to smut that was quite vigorous and kinky and all that good stuff. BUT I’ve never quite seen smut as beautiful as this. It’s complete artistry is what it is. Like goosebumps. I can just imagine it. I first read this when I was on my period and it was a game changer. I didn’t know how to act. I also loved the implication on how the relationship played out - it felt very domestic, very loving and very healthy. There was so much to this story that wasn’t smut and I think that’s beautiful. I’m being completely serious about the artistry behind it. It was amazing and will forever be one of my favourites. I’ll scream it out to the choir. I’ll pass the pamphlets. I will hold a Ted Talk just to talk about it i don’t care - I’ll do it. 

15. @xherxx - Thesis It? | BTS (completed) 

God this story really is some nostalgia. It also has a completed sequel may I add! This was a rollercoaster ride like no other and the fact that it manages to work has me flabbergasted. Actual me would not be able to handle the events of this fic but I’m glad to see there’s a version of me that can. This is one for the chaotic. The wild and the free. I’m actually speechless looking back at it. It still has me in this unexplainable grip. Like I always get excited to get through the fic chapter by chapter, word by word. Like now re-reading it, it brings me back to the me I was a couple of years ago and there’s actually something different and I’m surprised. Woah. It’s been a long ride.

16. @ncteez - Definition of Hate | NCT (completed) 

I read this fairly recently and I just immediately added it to this list. I couldn’t fucking wait to write about it. This fic has me frothing since the first chapter and I can’t remember how I found it - maybe I just let tumblr scrolling do it’s thing? In this instance, tumblr is my religion and author-nim my god. I fucking love this fic and I’m going to think about it for a long time. I love the balance of platonic and romantic in this. I love that although the MC has her faults - she’s inevitably loved and held accountable all the same. The writing style is absolutely gorgeous and author-nim I love you forever and ever. Also when I read it - I had the best luck that day? My mum and dad were buying me albums... My cousin paid for my lunch and we had a good hour. Like I felt so happy in a way you just catch yourself appreciating life all the more you know? 

17. @cloudykyu - Unstan | THE BOYZ (completed) 

Usually I stay away from a fic series/social au until the author is a couple of chapters in and initially that was going to be the plan for this. But I couldn’t help myself obviously and I read it. Author-nim’s writing style is actually so lovely and one of the loveliest I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. A social au you can literally melt through - it’s so lovely. There’s something like a uno-reverse in here that I think is so refreshing and everything’s just pink in the best way and it’s so safe and comforting. I think the vibe of this is very Sunwoo and I think everyone needs to read this whether you stan The Boyz or not (in saying that if you don’t you definitely should). Sad to see author-nim is no longer on tumblr though :( 

18. @ahgaseda - To Kill An Empire | GOT7 (ongoing) 

Now, this was another hard decision of what fic would go here honestly. I have tons of favourites in all honesty. But, I have to comment on this one - I think. Just the relationship between each of the characters, what they do, how they talk. The character building talent that author-nim has is impeccable and inspires me in the greatest of ways. I love the descriptions and I love scrolling through these stories. It’s kind of romantic almost. Reading this had this like rejuvenated of the Ahgase in me and I’m so glad for that. I also reconnected with a very good friend of mine who is on a very different path to me and I’m glad. I’m so glad for this book and this author and the events that followed after it. 

19. @boba-beom​ - Airport Crush | TXT (one-shot) 

Honestly I was astounded by this fic the first time I read it and the second time and the third time. The feeling never dwindled and I don’t think it ever will. I read this at night and I’m actually surprised I (finally) managed to sleep after reading this. I spent hours just lying on my back just thinking about it. It went straight on my naughty list. One of my favourite (light?) smut fics I’ve ever read. I wanted to see if there was a continuation and so curious about the characters and the events that followed afterwards. It was beautiful and romantic even though the status of their relationship is very ‘quick’ and abides by the ‘pining’ trope shall we say. 

20. @kimnjss​ - Strawberry Kisses | BTS (completed) 

Ah look! It’s my favourite fic to reread over and over again. This has become one of my favourite fics period, really. It’s basically a comfort read for me. It’s such a fun and lighthearted fic but it also holds a really deep connection that I just want to cherish. This is a fic to be cherished with your whole entire heart and that’s exactly what I did. I think I could probably write a love story about it if I had the time. Please excuse me while I try to sound less like a nutter for this fic but I can’t. I feel like I need to shout to describe how this fic makes me feel and just the absolute masterpiece that it was. So for that, I love and appreciate you.
