Seven hours with no electrickery was interesting. Really goes to show how much we depend on the utility; but huge props to the infrastructure people for a) being really kind on the phone even though they couldn't tell us anything helpful and b) for actually getting power back before nightfall, just.
All these floods and storms make working in the energy sector a right pain, so shout out to the people at SP Ausnet for workin all hours to keep our services running.

AusNet Services hits customers on manually read meters with quarterly fee
It appears that AusNet Services, which is one of the five Victorian power distributors, has lost its moral compass. According to a letter which it mailed to customers, changes to its manual reading process will result in customers with a manually read meter being charged a quarterly fee of $34.80 (excluding GST) from 1 July 2023. Oof, it's nice to have power again! Nasty storms in Victoria Wednesday knocked out a ton of people's electricity. Ours had been out since around midnight Wednesday nighty/early Thursday morning and we finally got it back around 5pm tonight (on Friday). They were giving estimates that some in our area wouldn't have it back on until Sunday 😬. According to AusNet, there's still a lot without. Really hope they're able to get everyone back up soon.
Thankfully my brother in law is awesome and brought over a cooler to keep our cold stuff in and took our tablets and phones to his place and charged them for us. 90s trivial pursuit kept us occupied for several hours too. But geez it got cold. Thought I was back home in the US again lol
