its gotten easier. it really has. but sometimes i see families and think it should be me. i see people buying baby clothes and think it should be me.
i was due in august. right on my birthday. right now i should be nesting and buying baby clothes and looking for dresses that would make my bump look cute.
it just feels like i failed. it feels like im already so bad at everything and i couldnt even do this. like the one thing my body is made for. not only did i lose my baby, but i let everyone down. especially jake. i didnt just lose my baby, i lost his baby. i lost our baby. i just dont know if i will ever be able to forgive myself for putting him through child loss. it just wasnt fair to him. it just feels like there was something, anything, i could have done to prevent losing the baby. and i didnt do it, whatever it was. and its all my fault. i didnt just take away motherhood from myself but fatherhood for jake. my siblings being aunts and uncles. my parents being grandparents. it feels like i robbed them of those things.
and i try to not think about it. i try to tell myself that miscarriage is common with first time parents. it can happen to anyone for any reason. and sometimes babies just... dont stick. but i still feel so guilty. and im so scared to try again. but i owe it to jake and to myself. and to my family. but im so scared. because what if i fail twice? what if i try to do everything right again and still lose the baby? i couldnt bare it.
i dont know how women go through multiple miscarriages and still just get up and go to work. i am devastated. i think about my baby, if not every day, close to it. what could have been. its miserable. my baby was maybe the size of an avocado when it died. it never even had a heartbeat. and it still hurts so bad. i cant imagine how someone who got further in their pregnancy losing their baby would feel. im so miserable and mine never even had a heart beat. i loved it all the same. my baby Sequoia or Leona.

— POPPY SEED. 4 weeks.
[IWAIZUMI HAJIME]. if you weren’t so concerned with complaining to hajime about why men never had to deal with bloating, maybe you would have realised sooner the cause was a little more than eating one too many burritos. though to be fair, one could never get enough of that goodness.
— RASPBERRY. 8 weeks.
[KUROO TETSUROU]. while you and tetsurou’s cat had never seen eye-to-eye, you had left your fiancé completely flabbergasted the afternoon he’d arrived home to find the two of you cuddling cheek-to-cheek. and better yet, you had gagged dramatically when kuroo tried to join in.
— PLUM. 12 weeks.
[HINATA SHOYO]. spending the past three months trying to keep shoyo from sharing the big news with the world was exhausting on its own. but it had paid off! today was the day of the announcement, too bad you had a case of loose lips and blurted it out without a hint of hesitation.
— AVOCADO. 16 weeks.
[TERUSHIMA YUUJI]. four months along, and you were riding a pregnancy high. an evening bath with yuuji, filled with laughter and love, leads to a reminder that the two of you weren’t the only ones sharing the moment.
— BANANA. 20 weeks.
[MATSUKAWA ISSEI]. the bets are on! is it a boy? is it a girl? but with the way you and issei have been going, the real bet is based off whether or not the two of you have already been trying to give your baby a roommate.
— CANTALOUPE. 24 weeks.
[KONOHA AKINORI]. pregnancy was great…for the most part. with your body going through so many changes, it could be a lot to take in. luckily for you, your sweet husband was right there with you to love it all.
— EGGPLANT. 28 weeks.
[SAKUSA KIYOOMI]. kiyoomi only meant it as a joke when he stated you were “nesting”. but when it’s the fifth night in a row he’s woken up to the sound of you fretting over the vacuum cleaner at two in the morning, huffing about needing the apartment to be spotless; he knew it was time to pull out the big guns.
— SQUASH. 32 weeks.
[MIYA ATSUMU]. when one half of your classic social media couple is well into their pregnancy with braxton hick’s, there’s bound to be some form of mischief brewing. unluckily for atsumu, he’s the star-pranked victim of your latest tik tok video.
— PAPAYA. 36 weeks.
[MIYA OSAMU]. nappy changes? check. bottle making? check. highlighting hospital routes, crib building, car seat installing, and a bit of baby-sitting became the months of preparation for you and osamu’s bundles of joy. you could never be too prepared, until it’s actually game time and you forget everything.
— WATERMELON. 40 weeks.
[USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI]. unbelievably to you, yet unsurprisingly to the ushijima family, you had made it to full term. never mind the fact you were just about ready to pop, with what you were certain was a fifteen pound giant of a baby. you loved your husband’s natural affinity to punctuality - but why was your baby so insistent on actually arriving on their expected date?
— SHORTCAKE. 1 year.
[TSUKISHIMA KEI]. there were no words that could explain the feeling of your first born celebrating their first year of life. yet for kei, he just couldn’t shut up about it.

New Beginnings
(Four moths later)
You look at yourself in the mirror your cousin, Lydia, had set up in your room. From the back or even a forward facing view, you looked the same as before. The side view though, you could see the bump. Your baby was the size of an avocado but your belly felt like it was far bigger. Lydia pops her head in the room and sees you watching yourself in the mirror. She comes up behind you, grinning ear to ear. She was just about the only person, besides her friends, that fully supported you. Her mother was more worried about the family image. She bought you a bunch of oversized shirts so no one would see your belly. She even went as far to get you out of gym class so you didn’t have to wear any tight clothes or go swimming.
“You are glowing.” Lydia says. You roll your eyes and slide on your oversized shirt. The smile Lydia wears fades. “I love my mom but you cannot hide your belly forever.”
“I’m not about to argue. She is letting me live here, rent free.” You throw your hair into a loose but stylish ponytail. “You ready?” Lydia nods and you follow her downstairs to her car.
It’s not that you hated Beacon Hills. You loved your new friends, you loved your job working with Scott and Deaton. Hell, you even loved your aunt, even if she was embarrassed of you. The high school was a different story. All the students would stare at you, the new girl, the teachers expected you to be a thousand times smarter than Einstein just because you came from a private school. You weren’t unintelligent, but math and science weren’t exactly the strongest subject for you. Neither was history or English. But you excelled at lunch time and certain electives. And now, with the bun in your oven, everyone who knew expected you to drop out but you wanted to prove them wrong.
It was times when you were struggling with homework that you really wanted to call Brett. He would always come over and help but last you heard, Brett was with a guy at the club and Liam said they seemed like more than friends.
“Y/N?” Lydia asks. You glance over and she holds your hand. “You okay?” You feel tears on your cheeks and you quickly wipe them away.
“Yeah, let’s get to class,” you smile half-heartedly. You barely get out before Liam is scooping you up and running you around bridal style. You gasp and giggle but you tell him to put you down. The baby was just big enough to press down on your bladder and make you pee at any given moment. He sets you down but his arm never leaves your waist, pressing you closer to him.
Little to your knowledge, Liam has feelings for you, more than as a close friend. If he could, or if Scott approved, Liam would help you raise that baby as his own. He would buy you everything, spend all his college savings on you and your baby, but like Scott said, you would never allow that and the baby wasn’t his. He knew that. As soon as the baby would look up at him with eyes that sparkled blue like his fathers, Liam wouldn’t want to face the reality of his “mortal enemy” being part of them. He knew deep down that wouldn’t be fair to you and the baby.
“Morning beautiful.” He smirks. You roll your eyes. That was the relationship you had with Liam, easy going and fun. You never had that at your old school, besides Brett. It helped that Liam had most of the same classes as you but it didn’t help that neither of you were A students. Lydia would help as much as she could but she had her own life, on top of the supernatural around every corner.
You walk to you locker after school and Liam quickly follows. “Are you coming to my game tonight?” You can hear the hopefulness in his voice. You hadn’t planned on it but you also couldn’t be home every night. Lydia was getting worried and the pack barely knew you. Just that you were pregnant and Lydia’s cousin.
“What’s in it for me?” You joke. Liam blushes slightly and itches his head. He’s about to answer when Mason rushes over. He tries to catch his breath but he must have been running from all the way across the school. “You good, Mase?” You pat his back and he nods.
“Liam, I forbid you to go outside. Same with you, Y/N.” He barely manages to get out. He has to inhale heavily after speaking, causing him to groan.
“Why?” You hand Mason your water which he happily chugs down. He downs the whole bottle, exclaiming when his finished.
“I’m not telling but just don’t.” Mason begs. You laugh but when he looks at you, you can tell he’s serious.
“I have to get to my house to change,” Liam gasps and digs in his bag and hands you his white jersey. You look at it and cross your arms. “Look, I know I’m gonna be a mom, but that doesn’t mean I’m your mom. I’m not washing your laundry.” Liam rolls his eyes at your comment.
“No, I want you to wear it tonight.” Liam grins and hands it to you once more. You take it and hold it up and shrug. Who would it hurt to wear it for one night. Mason groans and checks his watch.
“I have to meet Lydia.” You begin to leave but Mason stops you. “Mason, I need to go. Do you want Lydia on your case?” Mason shakes his head and moves out of your way. You walk out the doors to Lydia’s car and get in. You don’t notice the green and white bus parked by the lacrosse field or the tall beta who’s the father of your unborn baby warming up for tonight’s game.
*********
Luckily it’s not too cold so you could wear the jersey over a long sleeve. You feel prideful, standing in the second row on the Beacon Hill bleachers, not because you’re wearing Liam’s numbers and a lot of girls and some guys were giving you dirty looks. You are confident because the jersey is just tight enough that you can almost make out your bump but not enough that people would question it. It gives you a sense of rebellion against your over controlling aunt, it makes you feel excited. You’re growing another human with just your body and you want to show that off.
The marching band begins to play and people chant. You join in as much as you can but again, you’re too new to know the cheers by heart. An announcer tries to hype up the crowd and it seems to work since every student screams with excitement You smile at Lydia, who snuggles onto your arm. She was cold but that didn’t shock you. You were always warm. You remember Brett saying he never had to worry about you being cold at his games because you’re unnatural body heat warmed even him up. Sleeping in the same bed as him was interesting at first because you both were too hot to even sleep with a simple sheet.
Liam comes over to you after huddle with a huge grin on his face. “ You made it!” He shouts. You make your way by people and over to the beta. You hug him and he picks you up, hugging you into a bear hug. He kisses you cheek and you give him a strange look but say nothing. “You look absolutely gorgeous in my jersey.” You laugh, posing with your hand cupping your small bump.
“DUNDAR!” Coach shouts to Liam. You punch his shoulder and wish him luck. As he runs to the field, he turns back to look at you.
“I love you!” He rushes onto the field. You freeze, not wanting to process what he just said. Maybe it was like a friendly ‘I love you’, you think. But none of your friends have ever said it like that. He meant that, and maybe it was a slip up but he meant that. You make your way back to your spot on the bleachers, still trying to process what happened.
Boos pull you back to reality. You look at the field and your heart stops. All the air leaves your body and returns at a moment when the crowd is rather silent. A loud gasp causes any werewolf in sight to turn and look at you. Not excluding Brett. He looks at you, knowing any noise you made from anywhere. He tried for four months to forget it to no prevail. You stare at each other before the announcer begins introducing the home team and people begin cheering and blocking your view. You try to breathe but you feel like your locked in place, you begin to hyperventilate and you have to sit down. Lydia follows you down.
“Y/N? What’s going on?” Lydia holds your hand.
“He’s here,” You gasp out. Lydia peers through the people. “I never thought I would see him again. At least not like this,” You cover your ears and try to catch your breathe. Lydia places her hand on your back but she doesn’t crowd you. You manage to calm down and you look around and realize half the people have left and the game is half way over. Beacon Hills of course is being crushed. You stand and see the players and you find the number that has the most significance to you. 28 in bold letters runs down the field and your heart beats faster, like every time he rushes to the goal. It’s a familiar and relaxing sound to him. He’s been listening to you all through the game, making sure you were okay. Despite, trying to get over you, he loves you with every inch of his being. Nothing would ever change that.
You scan the field again and see Liam on the sidelines. He glances between you and the game. You wonder what he’s doing but as you watch him closer, he’s not watching the game. He’s watching Brett. You realize the people who stood in front of you had long since left and your protective shield had disappeared. You look at Lydia and she smiles. You lean over to a girl you think is named Malia, you just remember her being a werecoyote.
“Did Liam say anything to number 28 on the other team?” You ask her. She nods.
“He asked if he could smell your perfume? I don’t know why. I mean, I can smell your perfume and it smells fine to me-“ you stop listening to glare at Liam. He knew Brett would be here tonight! He knew that and that’s why he had you wearing his jersey and why he was acting weird. He wanted to piss off Brett. “You smell different now.” Malia comments but Mason shushes her.
Liam looks over, scared since he overheard what Malia has told you. He knows that you do not want to be seen by Brett, let alone used as weapon to distract Brett from the game. He can smell the rage coming from you and he sees you whisper to Mason. He and Malia move to stand in front of you as a makeshift wall. Liam swallows the lump in his throat and watches the rest of the game from the bench.
Meanwhile, you sit on the bleachers, writhing in you anger. You can’t stand the though of cheering him on or supporting him anymore, worried that even that would attract too much attention to yourself. When the final buzzer rings, you look at the score and smirk to see that Liam lost, and while you should feel bad for his team, you don’t. This gives you a reason to be snarky and say that maybe if Liam had paid attention to the game rather than you, maybe he could have won. You stand up and look at the field and instantly your blood runs cold. There in the center of the field, while his teammates cheer around him, Brett stares right at you.

~2 weeks later…
“Come now, drink up,” Tony said, gesturing impatiently since he was needing to leave to go to a meeting bright and early, and you picked up the glass warily.
He had made you a smoothie out of hemp, cucumber, avocado, kale, ginger, grapes, and coconut milk. You had watched him adding each ingredient feeling more and more anxious. You just wanted an egg and bacon sandwich.
You grimaced as you swallowed it. You whined, “I don’t like it.”
“Yeah, I don’t either but it’s good for us, kitten,” Tony said, grabbing his own glass and taking a swig. He barely held back a face. “I’ve gotta be tip top shape for you and the baby. And you gotta be tip top shape for baby Stark.”
Scowling, you stared down at your glass, muttering, “I don’t like you calling it that.”
“I don’t like you calling it… it.”
“Well, we don’t know the sex yet, so what do you want me to say?”
“Baby Stark,” Tony quipped, taking another drink. He eyed your glass, nodding, telling you to do the same.
You took another long drink and swallowed it with difficulty. “It sounds too close to that annoying ass song.” Tony cocked his head in confusion, and you said, “I won’t subject you to it. Or myself to it. Again. Once was enough. I’m glad we are past the age – hopefully – that abomination is in vogue.”
“Well, now you’ve got me curious,” Tony said, pulling out his phone.
“Please, don’t,” you begged and then thought quick to threaten, “I won’t finish this if you do.”
Tony pointed at you and said, “That’s not fair. That’s for baby… the baby. This is for me and you can handle it.” Your jaw set and put the glass down, staring defiantly back at him. His eyes narrowed ever so slightly, not breaking eye contact. “You hate it that much?”
“Yes.”
Rolling his eyes, he placed his phone back down and picked his glass back up, taking another drink. At his relent, you did the same. Tony finished his and sucked his teeth before rinsing his glass in the sink. You forced yourself to finish as well and placed the glass back down on the counter. Tony grabbed it from you and rinsed yours as well.
He leaned in and gave you a quick kiss, “I’ll listen to it at work.”
“I am telling you, you shouldn’t subject yourself to it,” you replied.
“Digging my own grave then,” Tony joked before giving you another kiss, longer this time. He tapped your nose and said, “Do your laps in the pool, princess. Don’t forget. Doctor said that would help aches and loosening your muscles.” You nodded in response and he smiled, his hand coming to rest on your abdomen for a second before he moved past you to go to the garage and leave.

~2.5 months later… (5.5 months along)
Tony had you on your knees on the bed, your fingers spread, digging into the bed, bracing yourself. He ran his hands up your sides as he kept a steady pace. He was being gentler than usual, and you were thankful, loving the intimate contact. His touch was sensual and loving. The further you got along, the more he was relaxing on the rough sex.
The two of you ended up on your sides, Tony holding you close this chest as you came down.
He laid a kiss on your cheek, still panting softly from the exertion considering he had done most of the work.
His hand slid down to your abdomen, caressing your ever growing bump gently.
“Look at how perfect and strong you are, kitten,” he murmured. He turned your head towards him and kissed you slow and deep. “A superhero in your own right, growing life.” You smiled gently at that.
<><><>
~1.5 months later… (7 months)
“She’s been good,” Happy commented, watching Y/N inside from the back patio. She was showing now completely, round, and no hiding her pregnancy. “I can admit, I am surprised.” He looked at Mikhail and said, “Looks like you aren’t a complete idiot.”
“Took you long enough to figure out,” Mikhail responded, taking a long drink, looking at the women gathered inside the room. He smacked his lips and said under his breath to Happy, “Not stoked about being at a baby shower but at least there’s a lot of nice ass to look at.”
Inside the mansion, you took the salad from your friend, who commented, “You should eat something else.”
“We are going to have cake later,” you said waving her off.
“I meant something more nutritious than a green salad, Y/N.”
“Spinach is very healthy,” you retorted.
“There are a lot of finger foods. Tea sandwiches. Meatballs on sticks with veggies. Deviled eggs. Pinwheels?”
You sighed, chewing the bite of salad you had just taken. “A couple deviled eggs wouldn’t be bad. And some veggie sticks with ranch.”
She walked off and you scowled to yourself. Everyone was trying to constantly get you to eat ‘healthy’ for the baby and it was getting worse, the hounding about everything you needed to do. You were tired of it. The constant asking about what you had eaten and when, the reminders to drink water as if you had not been drinking water your entire life, did you exercise…
Cassandra waltzed over, sitting down next to you. You were very thankful she had decided to come and had forgiven you for the scene at her house less than a year ago. She picked a crouton off your salad, drawing a smirk out of you as she winked, before she said, “I’ve been meaning to ask you. Where did you get this dress? It is gorgeous.”
“Tiffany Rose.”
“The blush color looks beautiful on you. And I love you went dramatic with the floor length.”
“Thanks. Would you expect anything less from me?” you asked, jokingly. She shook her head, smiling. You took another bite and swallowed. “Are you looking for a dress for your shower?”
She nodded in return. She was taking a break from porn – hinting she might not go back at all – having gotten pregnant herself. And then asked, her eyebrows wiggling, “Is the blush supposed to be an indicator about the sex?”
“No. I just liked the color.”
“You really don’t know the sex yet? It’s a surprise for everyone?”
“Well, for us. I’m sure Happy and Mikhail know. God knows Tony couldn’t have kept it all to himself. Good luck breaking them though. I’ve been trying to get Happy to slip up about it for a couple weeks.”
Cassandra leaned back and said, “So, he set it all up and then the cake cutting reveal is his secret?” You nodded. “Hmm, he put a lot of work into this.”
“He did,” you confirmed, taking another bite as your other friend returned with a plate of deviled eggs and the vegetables you had agreed to. You held out the half-finished salad bowl and they took it, albeit reluctantly seeing you had not finished. You took the plate and obliged them by eating one of the eggs. “He’s excited.”
You paused and then added, “Excited but he’s ready for rough sex again.”
“I’m sure you are too,” Cassandra joked, nudging you playfully.
“Yeah. I’m tired of just… growing.” You took a bite off one of the carrot sticks. “It’s never ending. And I know I’ve got probably another month and a half of it at least.”
“It’ll all be worth it,” Cassandra reassured you, stealing a celery stick off your plate now and biting into it.
You finished off your carrot, swallowed, and muttered, “I fucking hope so.”
Your hand came to your stomach, rubbing. You were anxious to know what the sex was. When the sex had been able to be detected, Tony insisted you should stay in the dark so he could make it an actual reveal at the baby shower for you. You hated not knowing when he did, but he had been persistent about the idea of it and you had gone with it because he seemed thrilled with the idea. You just wanted to know. You were hoping the party would progress faster so you could end that anxiousness.
When it finally happened, the blue inside the cake settled something in you. At least you knew what that part of your future was going to look like.
<><><>
~2.5 months later…
“What’s this?” Tony asked, seeing another travel bag next to yours.
“It’s for Miles,” you said as if that was obvious. You went back into your closet, grabbing another scarf from your collection. It was going to be cold at Lake Tahoe for the trip.
Tony took the scarf from you and put it in your travel bag. “He doesn’t need a bag. He’s staying here.”
“Wait, what?” you asked, stricken. He was only a month old. Barely.
“Doctors said one month is enough, but a lot recommend three months for trips. So, we are going to play it safe. He’ll stay here and we will go.”
“Tony, I—we can’t leave him!” you tried to argue, your hand falling protectively on his travel bag.
Tony’s eyes flicked to your hands and he gripped them, prying them away to grasp them in his. He stared into your eyes and said, “Sure we can. It’s only three days, Y/N. We will be back before you know it. He is an infant; he’s not going to notice.”
You were going to notice leaving your infant behind.
“I have to breastfeed him,” you tried another argument.
“Pump before we leave. You have back up in the fridge, no? And it keeps for up to four days. And then he can have formula otherwise.”
“I didn’t want to give him formula,” you protested.
“Don’t listen to that shit that says it’s not good. I had formula and I’m a genius by earthly standards,” Tony said, trying to make a joke. “I already got the formula, Wendy knows how to whip it up.”
“But—” you started to protest but Tony interjected.
“Just us, princess. Just us,” Tony said, his thumbs caressing your cheeks as he cradled your face.  “He’ll be fine. He’s in very capable hands with Wendy. You trust her right?” He waited for you to respond and you nodded; you did trust her, wholeheartedly. But that did not mean you did not want to bring your infant on a trip with the two of you. Before you could actually say anything, Tony’s hands fell from your face and gripped at your hips, sliding back to your ass to hold you close. “Let’s enjoy ourselves.” He leaned in, nipping at your ear, “Let me enjoy you. He’s been stealing all your attention as of late.”
You hated that last comment. Throughout your pregnancy and even from the beginning, you had had a nagging feeling Tony was going to get jealous about sharing your affection and attention. And that was just proving it.
“I deserve some attention, don’t I, baby?”
Shoving down argument, you forced a quick smile. “Of course, daddy. All of my attention.”
He smiled sensually, his hands kneading at your ass as he pulled you closer. His eyes were alight with adoration for you. “That’s my perfect princess.”

Chapter Twenty-Seven: Acceptance
The mattress was high-end, the best of the best that cost more than a month’s pay at the hardware store. Tony and Pepper had it sent when Bucky and you were moving and it had proven to be more comfortable than a bed of clouds – but not tonight. Your back was aching and there was nothing left to do but get up. Bucky was snoring next to you, so you slowly got up without disturbing him – he had been working hard at the shop and even harder trying to keep your mind off everything. It had been about three days since Clint came by and you had decided it was best to cut off all communication. So, you had turned your phone off and figured if it were important, your friends could get in touch with Bucky.
You got up and slowly got off the bed, not just because you did not want to wake Bucky. You were nine months pregnant, less than six days away from your due date and you surely were showing it – and feeling it. Your feet slid into the house slippers near the bed and quietly left the room. Downstairs, you walked into the kitchen and served yourself a glass of water before settling on the couch where you turned on the television.
Reruns of I Love Lucy were on and it made you think of Clint; it made you think of the times before the two of you slept together that night in Germany. You had gotten along with all your teammates but something about Clint had been familial. He was, when it came down to it, a regular guy. You were just like him; the Avengers could do without the pair of you but there the two of you were. Sitting at the table with the others, fighting alongside them, and it was fair to say, the two of you spent more time recovering from injuries together than the others. The friendship grew organically and most often, you sought him out. The two of you would joke around, go to games in the city and when you found out about his family – you liked to badger him with questions about Laura and the kids as reruns of I Love Lucy played in the background. He was, aside from Nat, your best friend.
“Can’t sleep?”
You looked over to your right, Bucky stood at the end of the couch. He looked tired but he smiled as he walked around to the couch, flopping down next to you. He pulled you into his side and rested his arm around your shoulder, kissing you lightly on the forehead.
“I – I feel bad, Bucky.”
His fingers squeezed your shoulders and he sighed. “I know, it’s a tough situation.”
You wanted him to say you had done the right thing, but you had saw his face the day you signed the paternity request papers the lawyers had brought over. He was not in favor of it and wanted to talk to Clint face to face – solve everything without lawyers but he also wanted you to feel some peace, so he went along with the plan. He loved you that much and you were more than grateful to have him as your husband.
“I just need time,” you whispered, eyes focused on the black and white screen. Lucy was shoving eggs into her shirt and you sighed, looking up at Bucky. “After the baby is here, I’ll fix everything.”
Bucky, his eyes soft, touched your hair gently. “I know, sweetheart.”
“Then maybe we can finally enjoy a honeymoon,” you said, lighting up the mood. He perked up then, looking wide awake as he recited different places to visit. Having a hunch, he had already looked up these places, you asked him what his favorite was, and he shrugged.
“I was thinking we can rent a cabin up north, just relax with the baby – get away from all this craziness.”
Just the thought alone was enough to get you giddy, ready to start a life as a real family. Sitting up, you touched the side of Bucky’s face – he deserved happiness and you were going to be sure to give it to him.
“It sounds perfect.”
….
It was two in the afternoon the next day, you were in the kitchen rummaging for something salty to munch on. Bucky had just driven you home from your final checkup – the baby was official due in three days and everything was looking great. You were feeling relaxed and you suspected it had to do with shutting off your cellphone. It had been a nice couple of days, Bucky finished his last shift at the hardware store and was on his paternity leave. It was nice to have him home all day, the two of you mostly lounged around, taking in the quiet before the baby’s arrival.  He was doing yard work in the front, there was an avocado tree he was planting he got from work.
Finding a can of peanuts, you grabbed a water bottle and took it outside to the front. You heard him talking to someone and assumed it was Ben. Your husband had taken to grilling the man on fatherhood every chance he had got but when you approached closer, you saw it was not your neighbor – it was a tall blond man.
“Steve?”
Bucky turned and moved out of the way, to reveal his best friend standing there with a gift in hand and a large smile on his face. You were not angry at all, in fact, you were elated to see the man – the last few days without drama had done wonders for your mental health, so you greeted him with a warm hug and kiss to the cheek.
“What are you doing here?”
Steve pulled away and reached a hand to Bucky’s shoulder. “I’ve come to congratulate my friends on their marriage.”
Your face fell, afraid Steve was angry but he just grinned. “Bucky told me, I’m happy for the two of you. I know if I could have, I would have been there. I understand why you did it the way you did, I’m here to celebrate with my friends on a new chapter of their lives.”
“You’re going to be an uncle soon,” Bucky teased, and Steve laughed.
“I’m old enough to be a great-great uncle.”
The two men laughed, and you beckoned them to follow you inside, where the three of you sat around the kitchen island. Steve had planned on sticking around until the baby was born and when you offered to put it up, he declined.
“We got a hotel, didn’t want to get in the way.”
You made a confused face and glanced over to Bucky, who looked equally perplexed. “Sam’s here too?”
Steve shook his head; apprehension colored his face as he said no. You asked who then and he said something in a low whisper but cleared his voice and spoke up. “Nat – she’s here.”
As if on cue, the doorbell rang and your heart raced, looking over to Steve. “You guys have synchronized watches?”
Bucky’s laugh at the joke cleared the tension from Steve’s shoulder, he relaxed and glanced at you. His eyes found yours and he smiled weakly, as if he were pleading with you. “She wants to see you.”
You.
The room felt a bit warm as you slowly got up from the stool, reaching for Bucky’s hand to give it a reassured squeeze. His head tilted back to get a good look at you, and you nodded knowingly, leaning down to kiss him before leaving the kitchen to get the door. Your heat was racing with each step; the last time you had seen you, you practically banished her from this part of the country. You had told her not to come back until she was willingly to accept your life decisions. It hurt to lose her, and you had not realized how much you missed her until you opened the front door.
Natasha was as beautiful as ever; her hair was pulled back in a French braid and she was wearing dark jeans with a leather jacket. She stood there; lips pursed in a way that made her look like a child being scold for something. Her eyes gazed down to your stomach and she let go of the seriousness on her face.
“You look amazing,” she smiled, her cheeks rose and all the angry between the two of you seemed to vanish. Your eyes watered up as you thanked her, asking her to come in. She stepped into the house and when you closed the door, she stood inches from you. Her eyes were glossy as she looked around the small foyer, her lips pursed again but this time it looked like she was holding back tears.
“You told me to not come back until I could accept what happen…”
“I did,” you whispered, holding in your breath.
Natasha bit down on her lip and inhaled deeply; it was obvious she was having a hard time getting the words out. She took a few seconds to compose herself and then her eyes met yours, and she spoke through broken sobs. “I accept.”

No Strings Jimin + pregnancy cravings
aslfkajskl I was not prepared for this softness tonight
“Y/N!” Jimin calls, entering through the front door. Balancing awkwardly on one foot, he closes this with his heel. “I’m back, and I brought gifts!”
Curious, you poke your head up over the couch. Your hair is up in a messy bun, dressed in a light blue t-shirt which is much too small for your five months swollen belly. Jimin smiles at the sight of your sweats and the shirt. Lowering the grocery bags to the counter, he raises a brow.
“Aren’t you curious?”
“What kind of gifts?” you say, propping your chin up on the couch.
Jimin begins to unpack. “Everything you asked for,” he says. “Spicy pickles and a ham sandwich.”
“Oh. Yuck.”
“No problem.” Jimin puts this into the fridge for him to eat later. “I also got dark chocolate gelato and raspberries.”
“Raspberries? Was I high?”
“Hope not!” says Jimin cheerfully. He pushes the gelato into the freezer, as well. “You wanted potstickers?”
“Pork or chicken?”
“Both.”
“Ugh, no to either.”
“Tomato soup?”
You flop back onto the couch. “No.......‘m sorry, baby,” you mumble. Even from here, he can hear you pouting. “I don’t want any of that anymore.”
Jimin laughs softly, putting this into the fridge and crossing to the front of the couch. You have both arms folded across your abdomen, hair flopping mostly into your face. Jimin kneels.
“Hey,” he grins.
Slowly, you turn your head to look at him. “Hey.”
“You have to eat something,” he insists. “Just tell me what you want and I’ll go out and get it.”
Your lips part, staring at him. “I... but... you just went and got me all that stuff! And now it sounds horrible to me! I don’t know what my body wants. Are you really going to go out and shop all over again?”
Jimin leans in to press his lips against yours. He lingers for a second before pulling away. “Yeah,” he says, hiding a grin. Jimin’s hands finds your stomach, caressing the bump. “I am.”
You stare at him for a moment before your lip starts to wobble. “Dumb hormones,” you sniff, wiping your eyes. “I never used to cry when you were sweet. I remember once, when you wanted to have morning sex and I pushed you out the window.”
Jimin’s grin widens. “Threw my pants at me, too. But yeah,” he adds, standing. “This is exactly why I’m going to get you whatever you want. You have to deal with the hormones and you know, having an actual human being growing inside you. I’ll get you food. Fair?”
“Fair,” you mumble, then smile. “Ooo! Avocado! And hot wings.”
Jimin’s smile falters. “Together? You know what,” he says, spinning around and grabbing his coat. “I don’t care. Be back in a flash! Text me condiments,” he yells, and then he is gone.
“STRAWBERRIES, NOT RASPBERRIES! I FIGURED IT OUT!”

The Run Away - AM one shot.
Bex and Bowie are surprised to see Bex’ car missing at ten at night and their daughter’s empty bed. Where could Andi have gone and why would she have ever wanted to leave in the first place?
It was ten pm and Bex was sprawled across the couch asleep. Is this what being an adult was like? She felt hands shaking her awake and she groaned, trying to bury her face in the cushions in a feeble attempt to escape.
“Bex -” Bowie’s voice whispered in her ear. “Wake up.” “I don’t wanna,”  “Come on, I have something to tell you. Besides, I’m not going to let you sleep on the couch all night.” “Fine.” She said, slowly sitting up, her eyes half open. It was hard to tell who was more tired between the two. Bowie had picked up a second job as a cook in a semi-formal restaurant, but Bex was cooking something too. “I really appreciate that you made me lunch -” “You interrupted my sleep to tell me that?” She whined. “You could’ve just told me that tomorrow morning.” “Oh no, there’s more -” a chuckle escaped his mouth. “I really appreciate that you packed lunch for me, but...um, are you trying to put me on a diet or something?” Her eyebrows crinkled together. “No...I made you a sandwich, an infamous carb-heavy lunch.” “No,” he drew out. “You gave me two slices of bread. There was no cheese, there was no meat - just...bread. Not even any mayo.” “Uh, oops -” Bex grimaced. “This damn pregnancy brain, huh?” “It’s awful,” He laughed. “But it’s cool, my coworkers had a huge laugh and they all pitched in to buy me a hoagie from next door.” “Great. They either think we’re completely broke or they think I’m an evil wife who is trying to starve her husband to death,” she rolled her eyes, but a small chuckle escaped her mouth. She remembered when she was pregnant with Andi, her worst episode of forgetfulness resulted in her sobbing at a doctor’s office because she forgot her birthday.
“Oh, by the way, I didn’t see your car. Did you park in the circle tonight?” “No, I parked in my usual spot…” suddenly her eyes widened, tears springing to her eyes. “Do you think someone stole my car?” Bowie rubbed her shoulders. “Yes -” he started. “But I don’t think it was a criminal...Andi usually comes out of her room to at least wave to me when I get home…” “I didn’t hear her leave…” “Bex, you wouldn’t hear an elephant crashing through our bedroom window,” he rolled his eyes, then headed towards his daughter’s room, knocking twice before turning the doorknob. “She’s not here. Where do you think she’d be? Do you think she made plans and we just forgot?” “Definitely not,” Bex shook her head, starting to stand up and search for her phone. “She knows the rules. A text message when she leaves the house and another one when she arrives at her location safe - and she knows not to take my car without asking.” she found her phone halfway under the couch. She opened it and saw no messages. “You call Buffy, I’ll call Cyrus?”
Bowie was already unlocking his phone to do so.
“Hey - have you seen Andi?” Both parents asked, synchronized.. “No?” Their tone incredulous. Andi told them everything.
If Buffy knew anything, she didn’t budge. Bowie sighed, then tusselled his hair. His heart was practically beating out of his chest. Where was she? “Well if you hear anything, please let me know.”
Meanwhile, Bex refused to take no for an answer. “Cyrus Samuel Goodman, it’s ten pm and I don’t know where my child is. Yesterday I yelled at a produce worker that he was ruining my life because all of the avocados were too squishy. Then I sobbed. I am in a volatile state of hormone-induced emotions. So again, Cyrus, have you seen Andi?”
“No,” Cyrus repeated firmly. He wasn’t lying. “But uh...okay, I know where she went.” “Then please, by all means, spill.” she replied, in what sounded like to Cyrus, a tone that was both sweet and threatening. Bex was usually seen as a cool, laidback parent, so to hear her this way was practically chilling. ________________________________________________________________
It was nearly an hour’s drive to a small cabin by a lake in a neighboring town, Woodhurst. The entire ride Bex was fuming. What the hell was her plan? To just steal their car and run away to Cyrus’ parents’ summer cabin? How long was she planning to camp there? Why did she decide to do this?
“We made stupid choices when we were teens too,” Bowie reminded her. “I never ran away to a cabin in a different town, though.” “If you had a friend willing to give you their parent’s keys, you probably would have.” “No this is beyond ridiculous.” “Look, I don’t think this was a good choice. I don’t want to condone this - I just think it’s important we don’t go in guns blazing. That treatment from our parents just made us more impulsive.” Well, Bex really couldn’t argue that point. The more strict Cece got, the more rebellious Bex became. “I’m just...pissed, Bowie! She scared us half to death.” “Yeah, I am too, but I’m more disappointed she for some reason felt the need to do this.” He parked the car in the driveway. The two slammed the car doors shut and stood on the porch. They looked at each other, then each took a deep breath and began knocking incessantly on the door.
Andi stood on the other side. Deep down, she knew they would come to find her. Besides Cyrus immediately texted her that he accidentally told. Still, a part of her was surprised they even noticed she was gone in the first place.
“Go away!”  “Andi, let us in now!” Bex demanded. “Why should I?” “Because we’re your parents and we just want to talk to you.” Bowie tried. She hesitated, then opened the door. Her parents came barreling in. “I don’t want to go home.” “But why?” he asked, his tone soft. Andi shrugged. “You wouldn’t understand.” “Damn right we wouldn’t!” Bex raised her voice, much to Bowie’s chagrin. “This is - god, this tops the worst thing I’ve ever done!” “Bex!” he scolded. Andi scoffed. “See, this is why I didn’t want to let you guys in.” “This is just ridiculous, Andi, you stole my car and drove an hour away without telling us - why the hell would you make such a stupid choice?” She rolled her eyes. “This just isn’t how we raised you, Andi and I want to understand!” “Funny, I didn’t think you raised me at all.”
Whatever words Bex had been planning to say next disappeared. It felt like a ton of bricks hit her chest. Her mouth was left agape.
“Andi - ” Bowie started. “No, I don’t want to hear it.” Andi said. “It’s not fair.” “What isn’t fair, Andi?” Bex pleaded, finding her voice. “Don’t pretend like you guys are stupid! I spent 13 years of my life being raised by my grandparents, not knowing I had a mother who abandoned me and a father who didn’t know I existed,” Yeah, old wounds. She knew she should’ve been over it, but how could you just forget it all happened and pretend everything was okay? She still thought about it at night, tossing and turning. Sure, she forgave, but she still struggled. “And then you come back into my life and turn it upside down! And yeah, I learned to deal with it and it was fine. I was even happy - but then a year after you two get married, Bowie starts to work an extra job so I barely get to see him and then you tell me at my own art show that you want another baby and it’s like I disappeared. But it’s whatever, now you’re going to have a new baby and you two are going to raise it and create the happy little life you didn’t get to have with me because...because you and Cece chose to be selfish! When I look at baby pictures and family portraits, all I see are lies and it isn’t fair...this baby...this baby, it’ll have a normal life.” she flopped down on the couch. “Just admit it, this is a do-over baby because you messed up with me, Bex, and Bowie, you can’t stand the fact that you didn’t get to raise me at all.” tears welled up in her eyes - she had been holding it in for so long. She loved her parents, she really did, and though her story was less than conventional, she loved her life - but she kept her feelings bottled up for so long that she couldn’t help but burst at some point.
The two parents were silent, staring at each other, unsure of what to say. They had never seen Andi quite this way, but it reminded Bex of...herself. She sat beside Andi and Bowie followed suit.
“Andi...you already know I regret leaving you,” she practically whispered, her throat dry. “If I could change one thing in the world, it’d be that, okay? But this baby...it’s never going to replace you.” she put her hand over her daughter’s. “You are my baby. Always. And I am so immensely proud of who you are, you are so much...much more than I ever imagined when I was pregnant with you. More beautiful, more creative, more wonderful...”
“And ever since I learned you existed, my universe has become infinitely better. I know sharing sucks, but we’re not trying to replace you. We could never do that and we would never want to - no one can be you better than you. We just have so much love to give, Andi, and you’re going off to college soon and the idea of an empty house terrifies us. When we were talking about having another child, one of the biggest factors we considered was you. We just knew you were going to be an amazing sister.” Bowie finished.
Guilt had sunk into Andi’s chest. She realized how awful she had been and how rash her decision was. She always knew they loved her - she was just...angry and jealous. She nodded slowly. “I’m...sorry. I just...felt so ignored and felt like I was going to be replaced.”
“Your feelings are understandable,” Bowie said. “Your actions are not.” Bex said.  “You’re totally grounded.” Bowie agreed.  “Yeah...I probably deserve that.”

The Darkest Fairy Tale
When my husband and I were married for two and a half years, we decided to start trying for a baby. We always knew we wanted kids, but we anticipated having to try for a while before it would actually happen. Much to our surprise, we got pregnant the first time we tried. The Thursday before we found out I was pregnant (about one week after ovulation), I woke up in the middle of the night feeling sick and thought to myself, “What if I am pregnant?" The days passed and I kept googling “pregnancy symptoms days past ovulation”. I was feeling every symptom in the book. On Sunday, May 14th (Mother’s day in the U.S.), we came home from church and I found out my best friend was pregnant. We took it as a sign that maybe I could be pregnant (as my period was not supposed to come until the following week). The pregnancy test confirmed I was pregnant really, really quick. I jumped out of happiness (and shock), my husband cried tears of joy. We both got down on our knees and prayed. What a miracle! We were going to be parents in January, 2018… The pregnancy was amazing, I was feeling a little nauseous, but not too much. I hated avocados, and loved limes. We saw the baby and heard its little heartbeat (165bpm) on June 14th, 2017, at exactly at eight weeks, on my husband's 30th birthday. Best. Birthday. Ever. I had previously been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. The doctor checked them and told me, with confidence, that everything seemed perfect. After 12 weeks, most women start feeling better, I didn't. I was still sick and after the 13th week I was no longer feeling like myself. Now that I know the facts, I know that around the middle of week 13 is when I caught an infection in my uterus. Much like a urinary tract, or a kidney infection, or any type of infection, this was unexpected and unavoidable. The cause is still unknown, just as in any other case of infection. In retrospect, I was feeling a little “under the weather” and had some lower back pain and possibly a low fever. I blamed it on the hormones and my fibroids. The week of July 24th to July 28th was the darkest week of my life. After a rough weekend (I worked on Saturday, and we had a busy Sunday), I started the workweek on a bad note. On Monday (the 24th), I could not sleep all night because I was having lower back pains. I blamed the fibroids. On Tuesday, I woke up from another bad night and had to take a quick warm bath to feel better. I threw up my breakfast and could not keep any food down the rest of the morning. Turns out I was in labor. I pushed through and made it to work on Tuesday (July 25th). I couldn't stand up, I couldn't sit down. I was in a lot of pain. My boss told me to go home, and my husband picked me up at work. Looking back I know now those were all signs my body was going into labor due to the infection. I got home and took a shower, it was the only thing that made me feel better. I put my pjs on and went to bed and took a 1.5 hour nap. My husband woke me up to serve me some lunch, since I wasn't eating and he was concerned. I got up from the dining table because I was feeling uncomfortable. Then my water broke. Just how you would picture it in the movies, a gush of water came out of me and I felt something popped. I was praying it was pee, but I knew it wasn't. My husband froze, looked at me and started crying. I said “Please don't, I need you to be strong for me, I am going to crumble”. We went to the emergency room and had a nightmarish experience. We had to wait, they didn't take me into the labor and delivery triage, because I was “only 14 weeks.” The waiting room was packed and I was desperately calling my doctor’s office and no one picked up. After what felt like an eternity, they finally took me in. They took blood work and a urine sample. At the time I collected the urine sample I did not see any blood, but the liquid kept coming out. The absence of blood kept my hopes up. We saw our baby on the ultrasound, with a heartbeat of 115, the ultrasound technician didn't say anything, but we saw our baby die. We saw our baby's heart stop beating. This was later confirmed by the doctor. After my ultrasound I needed to use the restroom. I went, and saw I was bleeding. It was, at that moment, when I knew my baby was gone. After hours of waiting and going back and forth waiting for the results (even though I knew them), we were taken into a room. They gave me the hospital gown to change into, and immediately started antibiotics. I did not think anything of it. A few minutes later, the doctor came in and said those words no parent wants to hear: “I’m sorry, I do not have good news, we did not find a heartbeat.” We wailed for a few minutes. Then I spoke to my doctor on the phone and she informed me of the infection. She said that was concerning, and that was the priority. She said I was going to be put on antibiotics and the next day the induction process was going to begin. I was not given the option to undergo a procedure called Dilation and Curettage (D&C) given the conditions of my fibroids and how far along I was. However, due to the infection, it was necessary for everything to come out while leaving the uterus intact. I was in a very delicate condition. At that moment, I didn't want to see the baby or find out the gender. However, after talking to my husband and my mother in law, we decided to meet “it”, and find out the gender. We didn't have a name for a boy, as we wanted a girl, and all of the old wives’ tales pointed to a girl. I was confused and sad; I was scared of meeting the baby, of thinking it was ugly or disappointing. The darkest night of my life began. They took me into a room in the Family Birth place (same place where live babies are born). I cried the entire time. It was not fair, why did I have to see all the pictures of the beautiful babies hanging on the wall, while I was going to deliver a 14 week fetus… not fair, just not fair. I was taken into a beautiful, quiet room. My husband crawled into bed with me, as my mom tried to sleep on the couch. No one slept. I was dreading four in the morning, the time I was scheduled to go to the other room and start the laboring process. I remember constantly telling my mom “I am scared, mommy." Now that I am a mom, I can imagine the pain she was going through. Suddenly, it was Wednesday July 26th and four in the morning came faster than expected. I knew we were about to face the hardest moment of our lives, and I was right. I just did not know how much love I was about to experience as well. They wheeled me into the Labor and Delivery room. Yes, just like you picture it, a huge room with two couches, a birthing bed, a neonatal bed, and a picture of a father lovingly holding a newborn. I remember burning with anger and asking the nice nurse, “Are the pictures and the neonatal bed really necessary?” She placed a pillow to my left to block the picture hanging on the wall. The room had a small pillbox window I could directly see from my bed. At around 4:30 in the morning I saw a white dove, perched on a windowsill just outside. I told my husband I wanted to name the baby Noah if it was a boy, in reference to the bible story of Noah. The dove meant God was with us in this storm. At this point we still thought we were having a girl. At five in the morning, they put the first dose of Misoprostol in my cervix to start the dilation and labor process. I had contractions all night. But after the pills, boy, oh boy, the heavy contractions started. I couldn't move for two hours to let the pills dissolve and it was painful. My husband massaged my back, held my hand, passed me ice chips. All the things a father does. My mom did not leave my side. At nine in the morning my doctor came in, told me she was so sorry for what happened, and explained the procedure. I looked at her in the eye and asked “Was it my fibroids?” “Absolutely not”, she answered. She checked me and said, “You are almost ready, it’s going to happen soon.” She ordered another dose of the pills. She was concerned about the placenta not coming out, possibly leading to surgery. At about ten in the morning I felt a gush and some pressure. I called the nurse, she came and asked me if I felt like pushing I said no, but I pushed anyway. The placenta came out first, and then my baby was born. There were fears of the placenta getting stuck and having to undergo a D&C procedure which, with the infection and my fibroids, would have been very dangerous. The fact that the placenta came out so easily was a miracle. They took everything from the bed, and placed it on the neonatal bed, including the baby. I asked, “Is it a boy or a girl?” The nurse asked, “Are you sure you want to know?” My husband--who did not leave my side for one second--and I said yes without hesitation. She replied, “A boy.” We both smiled and said “Noah”. My husband then heard the name "Eliot" and asked me if Noah Eliot was a good name. I loved it. They asked me if I wanted to see him and at this point, I had absolutely no doubt in my mind I wanted and needed to see my son. My doctor said, “Get me a baby blanket.” And I just smiled, as the thought struck me, “I just had a baby.” They carefully wrapped him in the baby blanket, just like a living, full-term baby. They placed him in our arms and everyone left the room. Time stood still. I was holding my son. He looked just like daddy. His shoulders, his bone structure, his nose. He had little feet that looked exactly like his cousins’ on my husband’s side of the family. I opened his little mouth and saw perfectly formed gums. We placed his hand on our finger, we talked to him, I kissed his blanket. My mom came into the room, held him, and fell in love, as any other grandmother does. They placed him on the neonatal bed again and I was in shock. We texted all of our friends and family letting them know everything went better than anticipated, and we had an amazing little boy named Noah Eliot Roberts. We later found out that the name Noah means comfort and Eliot means "God on high". Noah was a fully-formed perfect human the size of my hand. I could recognize my son among other 14 week fetuses. He is and will always be my first born. I don't know what I was thinking when I said I wanted a girl. I would do anything to have my little boy with me, to dress him up in bow ties and do all things boy with him. If God gives us more children, I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart I do not care what we have… We love you Noah Eliot, you made us parents. You came into our lives and left so quick, but you changed our world. I will never be the same, because of you. I never thought I could feel this much love for a tiny human, but I do. Looking back, I would not have had Noah’s birth any other way. He had everything he deserved. I would have gone through the same baby-picture-filled hallway, same maternity room, same labor and delivery room, a thousand times to ensure that I, and the world, knew he was worth it. The experience showed me that his life was as important as any other living baby’s.

Getting stressed about things makes me more stressed about other things
And right now it’s a body image thing. I was never skinny but I was a good ¾ stone lighter than I am now. It makes me so self conscious because I was probably at my lightest when my husband and I got together and within 4 months I’d gained 2 stone and a pregnancy. I lost a lot of weight in my pregnancy and ended up being still a little below my pre-pregnancy weight when I delivered but something happened after that and my weight rocketed! I don’t know if it’s because my activity levels went down or because I tried to eat more to keep a decent milk supply (probably both) but I must have gained a stone or two then and in this pregnancy I’ve probably gained another two. I’m huge. I don’t know how. I try to be healthy. I try to give my baby the best. I guess I started off eating everything and as much good fats as I could to try to avoid IUGR but I didn’t think this would happen. I did the same last time and lost weight!!! And as soon as I stopped stuffing myself with avocados, Opal’s growth stalled. I don't know what to do. I know that this weight gain is for the best. I know that this pregnancy is healthier than my last. I know it's what I want but I can't shake how gross I feel. I see pictures of the old me and I'm just not the same at all. I'd dye my hair every other week, I experimented with my makeup, I went out in tiny clothes and no bra because it was what I wanted to do and now I'm just a flump. A big, fat, boring flump. I just really hope I can lose the weight this time. Make the time to plan meals and exercise but I just know that with two babies it'll be a lot harder. And my boobs are just a write-off completely. Today I accidentally dunked one in Aurora's breakfast. It was a fair bit lower than I thought.

A Week of Eating
[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Here’s a look at my week of eating. In no way am I telling you to follow this meal plan by the letter. I don’t even do that. However, if you’re looking for new recipe ideas or a basic meal plan to just get things started this is for you.
I have eaten these meals many times both during and before pregnancy and I’m sure I’ll continue to eat them after–if I’m not completely sick of them. The only difference in this “pregnancy” week of eating is that I leave out some of my favorite standards like runny eggs (an over easy egg on smashed avocado and toast sounds amazing right now), smoked salmon, soft cheeses, caffeine, and a few other things that aren’t particularly great for a fetus.
The biggest thing about this week of eating, is that I try really hard not to eat too poorly no matter how much I want to just sit and eat French fries or snack on all of the tacos (though, I’ve definitely eaten a fair share of French fries and tacos this pregnancy.) Having a meal plan, or at least a set of meals helps me be able to know there are options out there that are tasty, healthier for me, and just as easy to make as whatever it is I’m craving at the moment.
I’m also trying to force protein into my diet. Even before pregnancy I was always low on protein, either because carbs are just so good, or because I just don’t gravitate toward meat. I’d rather have veggies or fruit. But, before pregnancy I could supplement with whey protein. That’s out now for pregnancy and the organic and vegan proteins out there are ridiculously expensive. So I’m working hard to put real protein into my body to help me feel better and to make sure the baby is getting plenty to fatten up in there[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”17756″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_separator type=”transparent” thickness=”10″ up=”20″][vc_column_text]

Ingredients
All-purpose flour, for rolling
1 homemade or store-bought single-crust pie dough
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 cups medium diced yellow onion (from 1 large onion)
Coarse salt and ground pepper

Ingredients
18 Eggland’s Best eggs, 6 whole eggs + 12 egg whites
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped bell peppers
1 cup ground turkey sausage or meatless crumbles
1/2 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp salt
dash cayenne pepper

Whisk together eggs, egg whites, spices and salt.
Add chopped onion, pepper, sausage crumbles and whisk to combine.
Evenly divide among muffin pan and bake 20-25 minutes or until just set.
Allow to cool enough so you can easily remove from pan. Freeze on a large baking sheet and when frozen, transfer to an air-tight container or zip top bag. To reheat, pop in the microwave 1-2 minutes.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Shrimp Tacos”][vc_column_text]
Ingredients
Garlic Cilantro Lime Sauce
¼ cup oil
¼ cup water
½ cup chopped green onions
½ cup cilantro leaves
2-3 cloves garlic
 ½ teaspoon salt
 juice of 2 limes
½ cup sour cream (substitute plain greek yogurt)
            For the Tacos
1 lb. shrimp
1 teaspoon each chili powder, cumin, and southwestern seasoning
2-3 cups shredded green cabbage
8 small corn tortillas
1-2 avocados
Cotija cheese and additional cilantro for topping
lime wedges for serving
  Instructions:
Pulse all the sauce ingredients except the sour cream in a food processor. When mostly smooth, add the sour cream and pulse until combined. Taste and adjust as needed. Set aside.
Heat a drizzle of oil a large skillet over medium high heat. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and sprinkle with the spices. Add the shrimp to the hot pan and saute for 5-8 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the shrimp are cooked through.
Toss some of the sauce (not all) with the cabbage until it the cabbage is coated to your liking. It should resemble a coleslaw – you want it to be enough sauce so the cabbage is weighed down a little bit. Use leftover sauce on top of the tacos or in other recipes.
To serve tacos, smash a spoonful of avocado on the tortillas, top with a few pieces of shrimp, top with coleslaw, and finish with Cotjia cheese, cilantro, and lime wedges.

Pregnancy and Nutrition: Five Do’s And Don’ts
he eating habits of an expectant mother are very important, because the unborn child is entirely dependent on its mother, and her habits directly affect the life of this new being. I’ll start by pointing out how there are two different views about the beginning of a baby’s life. Life begins at birth I don’t have any statistical data to back this up, but based on my observations of pregnant women, most believe that a baby’s life starts at birth. They consequently make the most of their pregnancy, eating whatever they fancy, because they believe it’s the only acceptable time to be fat. Society even encourages them to do it. Life begins at conception Some of us are inclined to believe that life begins with conception, at the coming together of two living cells. Pregnant women with this belief therefore pay more notice to what they eat during their nine-month gestation period. But what about someone who didn’t live with basic hygiene before, didn’t pay attention to what she was eating, was overweight, and so on? Suddenly after getting pregnant, she starts paying attention to her eating habits. Do you think she would be healthy enough to pursue a healthy pregnancy? What kind of hereditary problems might she transfer to her child? It’s time to introduce a third perspective… Life begins before conception Here we talk about heredity. Heredity is the process by which the characteristics of parents come to be embodied in their children. If you have certain health problems, such as obesity or diabetes, there is a risk you will pass them on to your child. You will also pass on your eating, sleeping, and activity habits to your child. This article is about nutrition, though, so let’s stick to that. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll also assume that the expectant mother, or someone trying for a baby, already has good eating habits, so we’ll limit this further to eating during pregnancy. During the entire gestation period, the baby is completely dependent on the mother. She is charged with providing all the materials her child needs for growth, repair, and development. That’s why she must seek out sufficient food, clean air, water, warmth, and sunshine. These factors comprise the prenatal culture, which is to maintain a state that is conducive to the healthy development of the child before birth. Drugs, serums, vaccines, smoking, alcohol, and stress have no place in a rational prenatal culture. A mentally or physically ill mother cannot be expected to deliver healthy children! In this sense, a mother’s responsibilities are greater than society realizes and more than most mothers are willing to fulfill. Pregnancy is often used as a pretext for indulgence. Mothers are unwilling to make any sacrifices, and they are even encouraged to satisfy their cravings. If a mother eats suitable food during pregnancy, she can preserve her teeth and childbirth will be safe and easy. So what does she need to do? Let’s start with the “do’s.” Nutrition that is dense in vitamins and minerals An expectant mother needs more vitamins and minerals than at any other time. She should supply all that is needed for the healthy development of her child. Essential Vitamin/Mineral: Why you need it Where you find it Vitamin A Helps the bones and teeth to grow Carrots, spinach, green and yellow vegetables, broccoli, potatoes, pumpkin, yellow fruits, cantaloupe Vitamin D Helps the body to use calcium and phosphorus and promotes strong teeth and bones Sunshine Vitamin E Helps the body to form and use red blood cells and muscles Vegetable oil, wheat germ, nuts, spinach Vitamin C An antioxidant that protects against tissue damage and helps the body absorb iron and build a healthy immune system Acerola, citrus fruits, bell peppers, strawberries, papaya, potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, kale, parsley Thiamin/B1 Raises the energy level and regulates the nervous system Whole grains, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, berries, nuts, legumes Riboflavin/B2 Maintains energy, good eyesight, and healthy skin Almonds, wheat germ, wild rice, mushrooms Niacin/B3 Promotes healthy skin, nerves, and digestion Rice bran, wheat germ, peanuts Pyridoxine/B6 Helps to form red blood cells and deal with morning sickness Soybeans, carrots, cabbage, cantaloupe, peas, spinach, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, bananas, beans, broccoli, brown rice, oats, bran, peanuts, walnuts Folic Acid/Folate Helps support the placenta, and prevents neural tube defects Avocado, strawberries, green leafy vegetables, spinach, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, beans, nuts B12 Blocks nerve cell degeneration Spirulina, nori, fermented food, Calcium Creates strong bones and teeth, helps prevent blood clots, and helps muscles and nerves to function Sesame seeds, seaweed, dark green leafy vegetables, almonds,  citrus peel, sunflower seeds Iron Helps in the production of hemoglobin and protects against anemia, low birth weight, and premature delivery Kelp, squash seed, dark green leafy vegetables, dried beans, spinach, dried fruits, wheat germ, oatmeal Magnesium Strengthens nerves and muscles and conditions the liver and glands—used in the production of blood albumen, bones, and teeth Kelp, almond, legumes, dried fruit, dates, bananas, potatoes, dark green leafy vegetables Zinc For the brain, genitals, thyroid, liver, and kidney Wheat germ, whole grains, nuts Phosphorus Used to build bones, teeth, blood, brain, hair, and nervous tissue Seeds, nuts, legumes, grains, seaweed, dried fruit, dark green leafy vegetables It’s clear that a large amount of fruits and vegetables, together with a reasonable amount of nuts and seeds, are needed. Most doctors prescribe prenatal vitamins during pregnancy due to the increased demand for iron, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, and so on. However, synthetic vitamin supplements can be dangerous because they do not always assimilate into the body. My personal advice is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and a fair amount of nuts and seeds to avoid any vitamin or mineral deficiency. However, you must still check your blood values regularly, as any good doctor will ask you to do, so you can see if you’re experiencing any deficiency. If you do, you should start supplements before it’s too late. Omega-3 fatty acids Omega-3 fatty acids boost the development of your baby's brain. This may lead to better vision, memory, and language comprehension in early childhood. It may also help avoid postpartum depression. Flaxseed oil and walnuts are particularly good sources of omega-3. Consume as much fiber as possible Dietary fiber is the portion of food that the body cannot digest or absorb. Instead, it passes through the stomach, small intestine, and colon before being expelled from the body. There are two forms of fiber: Soluble fiber dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. This can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels. It can be found in foods like oats, peas, beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots, barley, and psyllium. Insoluble fiber promotes the movement of material through your digestive system and increases stool bulk. It’s very important for anyone with constipation problems or irregular toilet habits. Wholegrain flour, wheat bran, nuts, beans, and vegetables (e.g., cauliflower, green beans, and potatoes) are good sources of insoluble fiber. During pregnancy, many women experience constipation problems, with severe cases possibly leading to hemorrhoids. Eating plenty of fiber-rich foods helps to prevent these problems arising, and it will tend to make you feel fuller for longer. Drink as much water as possible It can be hard to stay hydrated during pregnancy. Much of the fluid you drink leaks from blood vessels into tissues. Hydration plays some essential roles in: Preventing morning sickness Discouraging unnecessary eating, because your body sends hunger messages to your brain when it’s dehydrated, so it can hydrate itself with the moisture in food Avoiding premature labor, because when you’re low on fluids, the body produces a hormone that simulates contractions Preventing headaches, kidney stones, dizziness, constipation, and hemorrhoids An alkalinizing diet Research has revealed that an expectant mother’s body pH will tend toward becoming acidic during pregnancy. A likely reason for this is the growing fetus’s need for alkaline minerals. These minerals must come from the mother’s body, so her stores are depleted and her pH consequently becomes acidic. Another contribution is how the growing fetus absorbs nutrients through the umbilical cord, but once these minerals have been absorbed, they create acidic waste that accumulates in the placenta. The mother’s blood vessels are not connected to those of the fetus, so she cannot carry out this waste, meaning the acidity remains in her body. This is why an expectant mother should eat an alkalinizing diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and water. Acidifying food and drinks—such as meat, dairy, cereals, alcohol, coffee, tea, soda, industrially produced juices, sugar, and tobacco—seem to cause defective teeth. (We usually find alkaline minerals in the teeth.) These should be balanced out by eating large quantities of green foods and fresh fruits. Now come the “don’ts.” Do not exaggerate your protein intake An expectant mother needs a little more protein each day, but the average woman already consumes two or three times the amount of protein she requires. It follows that adding even more protein to your diet can be harmful, as a continued excess of protein results in severe health disturbances. Foods like nuts, peanuts, avocados, soybeans, bananas, sunflower seeds, and green vegetables will supply the protein with the greatest biological value. Say no to pesticides and choose organic, locally grown produce The immune system of your baby is not yet developed, especially before the 36th and 37th weeks of pregnancy, so he or she is much more sensitive than an adult. Pesticides in food and water are known to cause premature labor and birth defects. They can also cause various illnesses in later childhood, such as asthma, autism, neurodevelopmental delays and cognitive impairment, childhood brain cancers, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), endocrine disruption, and so on. Do not “eat for two” Research has revealed that most women gain too much weight during pregnancy. An excessive weight gain brings many risks to your baby’s life, such as a greater risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart problems. It’s very important to base your weight gain on your weight-to-height ratio before you became pregnant. For example, a mother who is 162cm tall and who weighed 58kg before pregnancy should gain around 10–12kg over the course of her pregnancy. If you aim to gain about 1kg each month, with a margin of 3kg more in the end, you’ll probably end up in the healthy weight-gain interval. Under normal circumstances, a mother expecting a single baby needs an extra 300–340 calories in the second trimester and 400–450 calories in the third trimester. This may be different for a mother who was underweight or overweight before pregnancy. Do not eat empty calories Refined sugar is commonly found in white bread, candies, desserts, and sodas. It rushes into your bloodstream and quickly increases your blood glucose level. This may result in fatter newborns, increasing the risk of obesity later. Lay off the white stuff and go for unrefined grains instead, such as oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, and whole-wheat tortillas and bread. Do not go on a diet You should not go on a diet when pregnant unless told to do so by your obstetrician to address a serious weight issue. If you follow the simple “Do’s and Don’ts” in this article, you’ll only gain the reasonable amount of weight that is necessary for your pregnancy. For my own pregnancy, I’ve changed very little of my eating habits. I’ve been eating lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. I complete my diet with legumes, a few grains, and some eggs. One thing I did introduce was eating some fish and seafood, which was very difficult at first as a formerly strict vegetarian, but it was a decision I made for the sake of my baby. Fish and other seafood contain good amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. Everything comes from an organic source, and I refuse to eat any farmed fish. I also only eat small fish because they contain less mercury. I drink plenty of water, and I’ve shunned refined sugar, alcohol, coffee, and tea. I’m now in the 38th week of my pregnancy and I’ve gained 24 pounds, with my baby boy weighing seven pounds now. I’ve had no problems with anemia, pregnancy diabetes (despite eating loads of fruits), hypertension, cholesterol, constipation, morning sickness (even in the first trimester), edema, and so on. As a trainer, I also still workout regularly. Wishing you a pleasant pregnancy. Read the full article

Top 7 Fertility Boosting Foods You Should Start Eating Now
A healthy diet and lifestyle are essential for optimum fertility. A healthy body is a fertile body and the health of your baby is in great part decided before a pregnancy is even in sight. You see, by 8 weeks gestation a baby’s health blueprint is already created, as are his or her tiny organs and little fingerprints! At this stage his or her health vulnerabilities and strengths are set by the “map” guiding this miracle of creation. It is fair to say that once a pregnancy is established your child’s health potential becomes the lowest common denominator of you and your partner’s health at the point of conception.
So, how do you overcome fertility problems and give your child, the best possible start in life? It’s simple. Ensure you your partner are in optimum health by beginning the preparation for your most important event yet, at least 120 days prior to a conception attempt – whether you are trying to conceive naturally or using any form of assisted reproductive technologies.
Why 120 days? The quality of the egg and sperm today is the reflection of everything that was happening in your life and immediate environment over the previous 4 months. Your complete health picture during that time including nutrition, stress levels, blood oxygenation, hormone levels, emotions and other factors affect the quality of your fertility in the current month.
What you eat is an important part of my 11 Pillars of Fertility blueprint developed to give couples a comprehensive step by step reproducible system for overcoming fertility problems and creating the healthy baby of their dreams.
So what are some of the fertility boosting foods you can start making a solid base of your fertility diet today?
:: Green vegetables and Leafy Vegetables – This includes spinach, kale, collard greens, watercress and even Avocadoes. They contain folic acid, helpful in the production of red blood cells and genetic material. Folic acid also promotes development of a healthy nervous system, and prevents neural deficiencies in the fetus after conception – and it’s extremely important for healthy sperm production.
:: Nuts and Seeds – This includes walnuts, almonds, pecans and all seeds like safflower and sunflower seeds. The essential fatty acids and Vitamin E which are essential in the production of healthy cells.
:: Citrus Fruits – Oranges, Kiwi fruit, grapefruit and other citrus fruits all have very high Vitamin C content. Vitamin C enhances sperm motility by preventing sperm clumping. It also enhances ovulation and release of the egg from ovaries.
:: Pigmented Vegetables – This includes orange or red hued vegetables like carrots, pumpkins, and all varieties of squashes. These have beta-carotene which is a healthy source of Vitamin A. This vitamin is essential for maintaining healthy tissues in the reproductive organs as well as being essential for developing healthy brains and eyes!
:: Salmon – This fish contains essential omega-3 fatty acids, which assist hormone production. In addition sperm is largely made up of this type of fatty acids as is the embryo’s developing nervous system.
:: Pineapple – This is the best known natural source of Manganese, a very important mineral. Manganese activates enzymes in the body that trigger production of various reproductive hormones. Low levels of manganese are associated with difficulty conceiving. Pineapple also contains great amounts of enzymes, which aid digestion.
:: Chilies – Spicy foods containing red chili peppers increases blood flow around the body, ensuring that the reproductive system gets a healthy supply. Chilies also stimulate endorphin production, associated with stress release and a feeling of calm relaxation, which greatly increase chances of conception.
These foods are most effective if consumed in their natural form. For the highest nutritional value, choose fresh, unprocessed organic foods wherever possible, and avoid overcooking your vegetables.
