The tiny nervously crept to the edge of the kitchen cabinet. They were wide in the open, but the human hadn’t even seen them yet.

“Excu- Excuse me!”

Giant eyes fell down to them.

“Oh my god,” the giant said, leaning down so their huge face filled the tiny’s vision, “What are you?”

“I’m a tiny person. I live in your walls, and I borrow supplies,” the tiny said nervously. “I cook dinner over a little candle, behind one of the walls in the attic.”

“That’s amazing,” the giant said breathlessly, “Why are you telling me all of this?”

“Cause the candle got knocked over while frying some rat and the flame fucking caught the wall insulation, and that shit is spreading fast, man.”

“………what.”

“Your attic is on fire, dude. Like, crazy bad.”

“…”

“We should probably run.”

garte is so much funnier as the grumpy third wheel to harry and kim than he has any right to be. I feel like a good chunk of what people want out of jean post-canon is just... being garte, when garte can’t be there to be garte. and garte literally usurps jean’s potential pet the dog moment. when harry is badly injured and in need of care, his (about to be) former police partner doesn’t step in to help him but you know who does? that iconically grumpy not-bartender who harry has been idly bullying all game. garte is just such a guy but people don’t make him the third member of the team because he can’t be packed into a suitcase and brought along to every post-canon casefic

EDWIN CAN'T CONTEMPLATE A WORLD IN WHICH CHARLES WILL NOT BE THERE TO DEFEND HIM. He has SO MUCH FAITH in Charles I'm fine I just need a minute hang on

MEANWHILE Charles is determined to always be there to defend Edwin but is also painfully aware that sometimes you a) try to defend someone and you end up dying instead, and b) sometimes you can't defend even yourself so he wants to know that in the event of his failure Edwin won't be defenseless. But he can't TELL Edwin that out loud (emotional honesty, what's that, have we tried being repressed instead?) so instead he's trying to gentle Edwin into it by joking about it (and also by deploying his extremely charming smile)

Anyway this whole scene is just so delightful. They're so comfortable with each other! They're in their shirtsleeves! They're so fondly amused by each other! There is SO much physical contact! Their faces! We learn so much about them and their relationship!

Hey, writers of tumblr. I'm thinking about putting together a self-study course/ebook type thing on how to edit, intended for new/aspiring authors and those looking to prep their work for self-publishing.

For context: I currently do most of my freelance work through an agency that positions itself as an industry leader for author services (make of that what you will) and I get a lot of quote requests from folks who know their work needs editing, but have little idea where to start or what to expect. Frequently, either cost is a barrier to entry for them, or I find I'm having to correct or explain the same issues to a lot of clients.

I'd like to put something out on a pay-what-you-want basis that covers the most common issues I see in manuscripts. I'm thinking topics like basic grammar and formatting (especially for ESL writers and those working with translators), POV and perspective issues, filtering, pacing, rhythm & flow, dialogue, and a primer on techniques for self-editing your work prior to submission, pre-production, or sharing it in general.

Is this something you'd be interested in? What other kinds of topics would you like to see? What format(s) would you prefer?

Holy shit, wow, I have a book. It’s like a thing I made. Awash in Her Color is a short story no one’s seen before, then Faun’s Love Story is adapted for print in the same publication. It’s gonna be a real physical thing people can buy. There’s an ISBN and everything like I’m an official thing.
