I did not know that about port wine! Huh, learned a thing today
TBH, a hell of a lot of alcohol is named after places or other things that might not exist in a secondary world (or alternate history if it split long enough ago).
Port is named after Portugal, where it's from.
Just looking at other fortified wines... sherry (Jerez), madeira, marsala, and commandaria are all named after places.
'Vermouth', on the other hand, comes from a word for wormwood, which used to be one of the common flavoring agents. (Which I still wouldn't necessarily use in a secondary world setting given how specific a fortified, aromatized wine named after wormwood is.)
Shittons of liqueurs have highly specific names, like Chartreuse (made by Carthusian monks) or Bénédictine (supposedly made by Benedictine monks, but that was actually a marketing ploy).
Old world wines are pretty much all named after locations: Bordeaux, Champagne.
New world wines are usually named by grape varietal: Cabernet, merlot. Merlot is apparently named after a blackbird if you look up the etymology, though with the bajillionty wine varietals in the world, I'd expect a secondary fantasy setting to have its own names even aside from the place name issue.
Very few booze names are safe once you get outside of general classes like "wine".
Of course, at some point, you have to just accept that tons of regular words have etymologies that don't work in a secondary world setting and pick your battles, but for drinks, I'd probably just make a bunch of shit up if I were establishing some alternate world.

Attention! Attention! Make way for some of the National Engines' carriages!
Margherita is Espresso's Restaurant Car. Whoever sits at her table and eats her food either asks for more, or lies. Rumors say she has the hots for one of her brother Espresso's rivals, a certain Shinknsen named Hashimoto... Her apron sports both the symbols of the 7 of diamond/coin, the card that names the Settebello train.
Bénédicte is BoBo's Bar Car. If you ever feel the need of having a drink, she's got the drink that best suits your needs! Her name comes from a Northern French liquor called "Bénédictine", and some of this liquor's ingredients (saffron, coriander, arnica) are printed on her skirt. Also, part of her outfit's design is inspired by Manet's painting "A Bar at the Follies-Bergére", and a classic French maid outfit.
Ludwig is Ruhrgold's First Class Car, along with his twin Wolfgang (Yes, they're named after Beethoven and Mozart). In his waistcoat pocket, he has a medallion with a picture of his girlfriend, a sleeping car named Lili (who has a twin sister named Marlene. Another musical reference, y'all!!!).
Shizuka is Hashimoto's Smoking-Room Carriage. They're the "black sheep" of the family, but don't really care about it. Instead of cigarettes, they smoke a kiseru.

National Liqueur Day
Today we celebrate and imbibe liqueur, a distilled alcoholic beverage that is sweetened or blended with herbs, spices, flowers, nuts, cream, or fruits. The alcohol content of liqueur generally ranges from between 24 percent and 60 percent (48-120 U.S. proof) and is usually lower than that of liquor (spirits). Usually, the base spirit used to make liqueur is brandy. Liqueurs are not aged for very long, although their base spirit may be. But, there may be a resting stage to allow the flavors to blend together properly. In the United States, liqueurs are sometimes called cordials or schnapps. Technically, in the United States, the name schnapps only applies to brandies distilled from fermented fruits. Usually syrupy and sweet, liqueurs are used to make after-dinner drinks or are mixed with coffee. They may be drunk straight, poured over ice, or mixed. They are also commonly used to flavor desserts.
By 400 BC, fortified spirits were being made by the distillation of wine by the Egyptians and Greeks, who sweetened them with cinnamon and honey. These spirits were similar to today's liqueur and used ingredients that now are used to make mead. During the thirteenth century, European monks and alchemists improved upon the distillation process and created what we now would recognize as a liqueur. At the time it was mainly used for medical purposes. Today there are both generic liqueurs and proprietary liqueurs—those made by individual producers, often with a secret formula, with registered brand names. The following are some of the most common:
Generic:
Advocaat: cream liqueur.
Amaretto: almond flavor.
Apricot.
Crème d'ananas: flavored with pineapple.
Crème de cacao: flavored with cocoa and vanilla beans.
Crème de framboises: made with raspberries.
Crème de menthe: flavored with mint.
Crème de noyaux: almond-flavored; made with fruit pits; similar to amaretto.
Crème de violette: also known as parfait amour; contains oils from both violets and vanilla beans.
Kümmel: flavored with caraway seed.
Limoncello (Italy): lemon-flavored.
Sloe gin: flavored from the fruit of the blackthorn bush.
Triple sec: orange-flavored; colorless Curaçao.
Proprietary:
Baileys Irish Cream (Ireland): Irish whiskey and cream.
Bénédictine (France): first made in 1510; closely-guarded formula.
Campari (Italy): herbs and fruit.
Chartreuse (France): formula was developed in 1607; contains green and yellow plant liqueurs; spicy and aromatic flavors.
Cherry Heering (Denmark): cherry flavored.
Cointreau (France): proprietary blend of triple sec.
Crème Yvette (United States): violet flavor and color.
Curaçao: flavored from the dried peels of the green oranges from the island of Curaçao, located in the Caribbean Sea.
Danziger Goldwasser: spicy; contains tiny gold specks.
Drambuie (Britain/Scotland): Scotch whisky base; flavored with heather honey and herbs; made with a French formula that was brought to Scotland in 1745.
Forbidden Fruit (United States): brandy and grapefruit.
Grand Marnier (France): orange liqueur with cognac base; created in 1880; one of the most famous liqueurs of all time; Escoffier used it to make Crêpes Suzette; César Ritz was a fan of it and used it at his hotels.
Irish Mist (Ireland): made with Irish whiskey and honey; spicy.
Jägermeister (Germany).
Kahlúa (Mexico): coffee-flavored.
Liquore Galliano (Italy).
Midori (Japan): flavored with melon.
Sambuca (Italy): anise-flavored.
Strega (Italy).
Tia Maria (Jamaica): rum as base spirit; coffee-flavored.
Van der Hum (South Africa): spicy; aromatic.
How to Observe National Liqueur Day
Celebrate the day drinking liqueur. Use it to make an after-dinner drink, enjoy it straight, or pour it over ice. There are a countless amount of liqueurs and recipes that go with them that you could try. You could also use liqueurs to make a dessert. You could even use the day to learn how to make your own liqueurs. If you don't drink, you could still make or bake a dessert with liqueur for someone else, or try your hand at making homemade liqueur for a friend to try.

[ 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐊 ]
🌙  *  ―     𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐒 | [ 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐊 ] ― sender makes receiver a cocktail to try
"So what's a 'vokka mojijo?'"
Wang Yi freezes before shooting Eiden a glare. 'That doesn't exist.'
"Yeah, well I heard a friend of a friend say you make some pretty good ones?"
'Haha, very funny.'
Tumblr media
'Please don't mention that again.'
"You're always saying stuff like that. So what kind of cocktails can you make?"
Wang Yi rolls his eyes, but gets up from the couch to see what Eiden has in the fridge anyways. It's not that inspiring, but his eyes do rest on the carton of milk and some oranges. He makes his way to the door with a way. 'I'll be right back.'
"Where are you going?"
'To buy a digestif.'
"Sounds fancy."
'Yeah, yeah...' And the door slams in his face.
30 minutes later, Wang Yi finishes pouring the Bénédictine into a glass, plops in a few ice cubes, and topped it with chilled milk. He garnished the rim with an orange slice and one cinnamon stick before sliding the whole glass towards Eiden.
'Drink up.'
Eiden just pokes at the glass with an inquisitive look. "That's it?"
'It doesn't have to be complicated to taste good,' Wang Yi mutters. 'This one's fit for winter nights, especially after a meal.'
"What's it called?" his partner asks instead before taking a sip. It's surprisingly sweet—the liquor complements the milk in a creamy sort of mix.
'Milk and honey cocktail,' Wang Yi explains. 'The alcohol's French, more of a herbal liquer. There's flowers and berries and stuff to make it sweet, which works well with the dairy and other things.'
Eiden takes another sip before he looks closer at his glass. "That's nice and all, but don't you think it's kinda of suggestive?"
Wang Yi narrows his eyes. 'What do you mean?'
"Well, don't you think the color and thickness kinda looks like c—"
The rest of Eiden's sentence is drowned out by Wang Yi yelling. Again.

Cheers!!!

Bénédictine Palace
flickr
Bénédictine Palace by Tony Via Flickr: The Bénédictine Palace, was built in 1898 as a factory for the production of Bénédictine, a sweet alcohol flavoured drink. The palace is also home to the art collections of the Le Grand family, built up by Alexandre le Grand who developed the recipe for the liqueur Benedictine. The collection is large and includes books, painting, sculptures and even wrought ironwork. The Gothic room contains the library with over a thousand books, many of which came from Fécamp abbey.

Dreamhouse is similar to the afterlife in having some drinks named after people however the only requirement is a connection strong enough in Barbie’s life that it has impacted her heavily or someone she truly admires. So, outside of the Malibu Doll she has a variety of drinks, below is the complete list of drinks inspired by people! It should be noted obviously if we have a ship eventually Barbie will make a drink inspired by her s/o and I will make a post about it however, these will be the FOREVER CONSTANT drinks on her bar menu.
𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒦𝒾𝓃𝑔 - Inspired by King, who helped Barbie become well, Barbie. Part of the dream trio ( @malwarfare ) it is made with, Lime juice, Blueberry Vodka, Blue Curacoa, Tonic Water, pomegranate juice,
𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒱𝒶𝓁- Inspired by Val, for again helping Barbie become Barbie but also general friendship and being the first person to accept her for who and what she wanted to be. ( @crrpo ) Val is another third of the dream trio and has had a profound impact on how Barbie acts and embraces herself much like King has had, it is made with, cranberry juice,  lime juice, London dry gin, chambord, rosemary simple syrup & soda water.
𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒦. 𝐸𝓊𝓇𝑜𝒹𝓎𝓃𝑒- Inspired by Kerry Eurodyne himself, Barbie wasn’t the biggest fan of Samurai to start with, just something every streetkid knew she had begun to study when she realized she wanted to become Barbie. She followed the stories of each member and connected deeply with each on different levels. Particularly resonating deeply with Kerry's struggles, she felt obligated to do him justice and made him a drink. Barbie made the drink with the following Cutty Sark Prohibition Scotch Whisky, bénédictine liqueur, czech absinthe, cinnamon syrup and Amaro Montenegro.
𝓜𝓼. 𝓛𝓲𝔃: Inspired by Elizabeth Borden of Lizzie’s Bar and the Moxes themself a traditional mix drink was put on the menu and renamed. A cosmopolitan as a strong power move on Barbie’s part becomes a Ms. Liz with an addition of the bartenders booze of choice to help spice it up. Barbie has admired the Moxes and Liz since the moment she managed to fall in love with Night City so this one was set in stone before she even officially became Barbie much like the K. Eurodyne drink Liz helped influence and impact Barbie’s choices in how she is and carries herself as a fixer.
𝑀𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝑀𝑜𝓇𝑔𝒶𝓃: Inspired by Morgan Blackhand stories Barbie wasn’t unfamilar with who he was and his impact on the circles within Night City and people she had found herself curious about before leaving Arasaka. Finding him inspirational based on his skill set this was the very last drink she added to her menu. She makes it with the following, Pekoe Earl Grey Liqueur, Honey Simple Syrup, nicolas feuillatte brut reserve, lime juice and lemon juice.

1 ounce sweet vermouth
