Operational between 1960 & 1970, the B-58 was never used in combat, total cost $75 billion in 2024 dollars, a complete waste of money. Looks cool though.

On November 11, 1956, the Convair XB-58 Hustler made its first flight. Photographed next to it is the Convair XB-36 Peacemaker.
"'We planned a first flight that was the epitome of simplicity,' Erickson recalled. 'We flew without the bomb pod that is part of the basic airplane. We were not yet authorized to fly with it. The airplane had two basic fuel tanks, a small 4500-gallon front tank and a main tank. We elected to use only the front tank. The main tank was empty. The configuration of the fuel system remained unchanged during the flight. The fuel pumps feeding the engines were on and they would stay on. No valve was actuated. The powerplants were fully operative, including the afterburners. But we did not use the afterburners. Configured for a return component [flying without a bomb pod], the airplane's weight was so small that it did not require afterburner. But they were available for an emergency. We had faith in the landing gear. And we retracted it, but not until everything else was lovely, and we were at 20,000 feet."

USAF Convair TB-58A Hustler 55-0663 by Mark Allison Via Flickr: Located at Grissom Air Museum near Peru, Indiana, this B-58 is the oldest example of the type still in existence. It was only the 4th B-58 to roll off the production line, originally built as a YB-58A, before later being converted to TB-58A s trainer. -30/05/2022

love the contrast between dick, who hates doing homework and would rather do anything else
Tumblr media Tumblr media
vs jason, who genuinely enjoys doing his homework and doesnt mind skipping patrol for it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, jason was concerned about his grades slipping due to missed assignments, but his teacher (and his GPA) says he's doing great? his teacher's only criticism was that he needs to be more social!
he's probably the type of student who thinks a B is terrible tbh
