a smol update
ah well considering the last few weeks have been quite messy in terms of productivity I have found that the submission date is leaping closer. essentially I have got my foot in the door in terms of research into jewellers, tools & supplies services. there are a few ways we could produce this project either manually or through a third party. we have inquired with some jeweller services in Auckland to work with and found a potential service located in Avondale. G & A Warburtons is a seemingly reliable and highly rated jewellers company that specialises in jewellery tools, services, designing and packaging - pretty much a great start off for jewellery making initiative. Aicha and I have set out to keep searching for other potential companies with cheaper or more convenient services. we are currently looking to send in the proper dimensions, designs and packaging preferences. as stated previously, we will produce only sterling silver and gold as these are more commonly worn and versatile metals. we have also opted to take a stance on our business name change from "UNKNOWN" to "Plan B" as we feel like there are many changes and challenges we’ve faced already during our business venture. we felt like this minor change can represent lot about the company - we just felt that UNKNOWN was pushing a general and mediocre “edgy” approach, and we want to be represented as authentically as we can.
Below are some research copied and pasted from google doc:
Plan B “Jewellery” Research/Inspo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFf4rmyMZWQ Youtube Inspo story on how Bobby White became a Jeweler
“Always a reason” behind pieces/creations (should be able to tell its own story) Letting jewellery speak for itself
Need your own style! Especially if you want your own designed products
When creating for other people you need to look at the person as a whole and work with that
Becoming a jeweller, you NEED to love the process! Need to love everything from designing it, creating new pieces to being in the office/shop for hours and days of repetitive work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7fm3mG6jv4 Youtube clip more around the fundamentals of creating and running your own Jewelry business
Don't need to have any specific qualifications to get a head start into the jewellery industry
Key steps to making jewellery
Design Jewelry (used special 3d app)
Print 3d wax using 3d printer
Take 3d printed wax and turn it into gold (casting)
File, sand and polish gold piece
Setting diamonds on the piece (optional)
Final polishing of the pieces
Gold Facts
Pure/ 24 karat gold (stated as 999.9 gold as 100% pure gold is impossible to achieve) and always coloured yellow
Gold is mixed with other metals such as silver and copper because it is too soft and wouldn’t be durable to make jewellery with.
The higher the karat the higher amount of gold is in the piece. Common types of gold: 10K, 14K, 18K, 24K *In the US 10 carats is legally not considered the gold
Also the higher amount of gold the richer gold and colour in the piece E.g 10K gold has 41.7% & 14K has 58.3% gold
3 different colours to gold: White gold, Yellow gold and Rose gold Platinum silver palladium + pure gold = more white Cooper + pure gold = more pink/rose
Whiter gold to be rhodium plated due to casting process taking away its white finish Once these are melted together they can’t separate
Testing for Gold
Can buy an acid kit (eBay), this includes a scratchpad in which you starch your gold onto and then pour a small drop of liquid (supplied with the kit, each bottom is provided to test each amount of carat) on top of the scratch. If the gold starts to dissolve then it is less carat of what you have just tested for and if it does not then it is that carat or more
Electrical pen test; same method as an acid kit but with the pen, touch the gold piece and the connection pad will indicate the range in which the carat being tested actually is.
Most reliable testing is using a Gold testing gun (jeweller shops should have this already, so you can go in and ask for gold pieces to be examined and moderated)
*Carat markings can easily be faked
Eg having a 14k marking on a bracelet which is only really 10k
To check gold prices use https://www.kitco.com/
Diamond Facts
Diamonds are mined in countries such as China, Russia, Canada, South Africa, then other countries may buy them and are then purchased by diamond dealers in jewellery district (area in which focus on manufacturing as well as nourishing jewellery) who make pieces and sell them in retail stores.
Diamonds set in metal are called loose diamonds Jewellers look for how many loose diamonds they'll need, quality, size and quantity and then will buy off diamond dealers to make their piece.
Diamond carat and Gold carat are very completely different Diamond= Weight of diamond Gold= Purity of gold
The Four C’s
Colour - Diamonds have lots of different colour variations - Letter D means no colour, and no colour means the stone is worth a lot - This is the opposite to a stone that has more colour, the more yellow the stone the the less it is worth - Always look into colours D-H
Treated diamonds; diamonds made into different colours such as yellow, cognac (reddish brown) and blue This process is done by using white diamonds that are high in yellow colour (bad quality) and using a heating method to change its colour
Clarity - Some disadvantage to its beauty can be the cloudiness, scratches and pieces of black carbon of the stone (called Inclusions) - Like with the colour, the less inclusion the better the stone - There is also a clarity grading chart for diamonds - Good target for SI quality diamonds (Slightly Inclusive) - people checking for clarity of the stone usually use magnifying glasses to check
Cut: Different cuts of the stone can better its shine ‘round brilliant is a popular shape cut’
Carat weight: Carat is just the weight of the diamonds
Tumblr media
Using https://www.fiverr.com/ & https://www.cgtrader.com/
Used these two websites to look and download 3d models of pieces
cgtrader: shows you how 3d render model pieces would look like after it is finished. Here you can purchase the design as well as even contact the designer and also see how many diamonds you’ll need for the piece and the total carat weight
The cost of pieces will vary depending on how detailed and how big the piece is.
Once the designer has finished making your file, they’ll send back an STL or 3D M file in which will be ready to print
Good tip: build a portfolio of 3d files in which you will mask for production
Chain Types

Personal favourites from here
Tumblr media
Box chain:
+ I like how this is a versatile piece (worn by both men and women) + Pretty durable and difficult to break but easy to fix up + Length of chain can be worn any way to suit your look
Cable Chain:
+Like how delicate it looks on its own + Like that with this particular chain, would go nice with a pendant since its petite look isn’t doing too much
+ Can be thicker or thinner (really depends on what look you’re going for) + Most commonly worn
Tumblr media
Cube Chain:📷
+ Timeless design dating way back
+ Another versatile piece for men and women
+ Sturdy and easy to maintain
Tumblr media
Figaro Chain:
+ Love the mix of pattern sizes in this particular piece
+I like how elegant it can appear
Tumblr media
Snake Chain:
+ Gives a very chic vibe and details are good but also a simple statement piece
Strong Chain Types:
Need to consider its strength so its longevity is maximised
Cable, curb, Figaro and rope chains are usually the strongest
Weakest Chain: (be on the lookout for)
Chains with flat think links
Limited flexibility
Herringbone, snake and omega chains are usually the weakest
Best Metals for Necklace Chains:
Gold, Silver (sterling is more durable), Platinum (more expensive/similar to white gold) and Titanium (inexpensive, light and highly durable, darker colour than white gold and silver)

Gilbert Mosby, The ‘Konjola King,’ Was Cincinnati’s Other Prohibition Millionaire
When an expensive house hits the Hyde Park real estate market, it is hardly news.
Even so, the big old pile on nine acres along Erie Avenue caused a bit of a stir when it found a buyer for more than $3 million in June of this year. Thoroughly renovated, the three-building estate is a gem for sure, and it has an interesting back story.
The house was built in 1927 by a man named Gilbert H. Mosby and it was designed to impress visitors as a testament to a real rags-to-riches story. Less than a decade before he built his mansion, Mosby had a factory job on Pearl Street, churning out a cure-all potion sold as “Vola Tonic” for a company known as Vola Remedies.
In 1921, Mosby married a young lady (he was 34, she was 18) named Roberta Epperhardt, and incorporated his own tonic manufactory, the Mosby Medicine Company, to produce an elixir sold as “Konjola.”
Tumblr media
It’s difficult to determine, exactly, what went into proprietary nostrums like Konjola and Vola Tonic. It is impossible to tell if Mosby developed his own formula or whether he stole or adapted a recipe from Vola Remedies. Roberta later claimed Konjola was her idea. Mosby claimed Konjola would cure nervousness, indigestion, rheumatism, neuritis, catarrh, constipation, stomach trouble, general weakness, kidney problems and liver dysfunction. We know Konola had lots of herbs. It also had the secret to Mosby’s success in this Prohibition era – lots of alcohol. According to Charles Westheimer, writing in the Cincinnati Historical Society Bulletin [Fall 1976]:
“Mosby was popularly known as the "Konjola King” for the name of the patent medicine he manufactured on Reading Road and sold all over the United States. It was a vegetable concoction with a high alcohol content that could be sold without prescription and gave comfort to many who could not or would not find a bootlegger to ease the strictures of prohibition.”
Konjola sold like bathtub gin in the Roaring Twenties. Gilbert and Roberta started Mosby Medicine by mixing up tubs of Konjola in their basement and bottling it themselves. By 1927, Mosby owned a factory on Reading Road in Avondale and was planning an even bigger complex up the road. Mosby bought a spectacular neon sign, 84 feet long and 32 feet high to advertise Konjola on the central pier of the Atlantic City boardwalk.
And then it all fell apart.
Both Gilbert and Roberta had champagne tastes and wandering eyes. He owned an outlandishly expensive Isotta Fraschini auto. She owned a lot of furs. He chased a New York showgirl named Gladys Deering. Roberta was seeing an aeronautical entrepreneur named Hugh Watson who operated what later became the Blue Ash Airport. They filed competing lawsuits for divorce in 1929 and Roberta walked away with the largest alimony ever awarded to that time in Hamilton County: $400,000.
Gilbert gave her the house and some cash to settle up. The payments sent his company into receivership and he declared personal bankruptcy in 1934.
By then, Prohibition was over and the demand for alcohol-rich tonics was waning but Mosby gave medicinal concoctions another shot and launched a new elixir named Indo-Vin, billed as “ethyl fuel for the human motor.” He also remarried at the age of 48, to 24-year-old Annie Marie Willis, a cashier at a Vine Street restaurant. The marriage was short-lived and they divorced after a couple of years.
Mosby moved west, cashing out his shares of Indo-Vin and landing an apartment on Sunset Boulevard. He created yet another medicinal corporation, now based in Hollywood, to sell his latest concoction, Van-Tage. Despite advertising endorsements by some B-string movie stars (Does Robert Woolsey ring any bells?), Mosby found himself in trouble again. This time, his opponent was the Food & Drug Administration, which ruled against Mosby in 1938, asserting that his mixture of water, glycerin, caramel coloring and some miscellaneous herbs had no medicinal effects.
Tumblr media
By now, Mosby was remarried yet again, to dancer and Hollywood model Billie Huber. On their wedding day, Mosby was 50 years old. His bride was 18. The wedding made national news because the ceremony took place in a mine hundreds of feet beneath Virginia City, Nevada. Perhaps the remote location was an attempt to evade Betty Miller, a 20-year-old singer and actress, who was suing Mosby for breach of promise.
The federal case shuttered Van-Tage and Mosby relocated back to Cincinnati, where he organized a new business in partnership with George Remus, notorious bootlegger and wife-murderer. By 1942, Remus was living quietly in Covington, operating a small contracting company when he invested in Mosby’s Gil-Jan Medicine Company. The name of the new tonic reflects Mosby’s fourth marriage, to Dallas nightclub entertainer Janet Walters.
On Wednesday, 24 May 1944, Mosby was out of the medicine business, eking out a living as a salesman for a home decorating company, and he was feeling poorly. Janet put him to bed, then left a note telling him she was leaving. Mosby awoke in the evening and wandered onto the streets, apparently looking for her.
At the corner of Fifth and Walnut, Mosby collapsed and struck his head on the pavement. He never regained consciousness and died 2 June 1944 at General Hospital. A tip to the police claimed Mosby had been blackjacked by unknown assailants in the Turf and Field Café at 532 Walnut street, but witnesses said there was no foul play; he just keeled over on the sidewalk.
Gilbert Mosby is buried in an unmarked grave at Baltimore Pike Cemetery in Fairmount. George Remus was among the eight mourners attending his funeral. His wife, who claimed she had no money to make the trip from her mother’s house in Cleveland, was not there.
Thank you to Gregory Williams for the suggestion to research Mosby and Konjola.

Live Update: Kevin Kisner, Scott Brown team for one-shot lead at Zurich

Live Update: Kevin Kisner, Scott Brown team for one-shot lead at Zurich
AVONDALE, La. (AP) Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown teamed to shoot an 8-under 64 in better ball on Saturday to take a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the Zurich Classic.
The duo lost on the fourth hole of a playoff to Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt last year, the first for the Zurich as a team event. They’re in contention once again atop a crowded leaderboard at 20-under 196.
Tony Finau and Daniel Summerhays shot a bogey-free 63, and Michael Kim and Andrew Putnam teamed for a 66 to finish one shot behind Kisner and Brown. There were 13 teams within four shots of the lead.
Article continues below …
Several teams went low in the easier better-ball format. The teams of Brice Garnett–Chesson Hadley, Billy Horschel–Scott Piercy and Jason Dufner–Pat Perez all shot 61s to jump into contention.
The format switches to alternate shot for the final round.

12/22/22- And I did a sheet for Coachman Dave too.
“Coachman Dave”/ Mr. David Sachar-Kingsley
A classmate of Sarah Holburn that she met at finishing school. Dave was born a younger daughter to an upper class Jewish family. He kept his mother’s family name Sachar when he changed identities.
He and Miss Holburn were lovers when they left finishing school together. When she got her first position as governess to Mr. Charles Murray’s daughters Rosie and Tilly, Dave became Mr. Murray’s coachman. He remained with the family until Tilly was eleven.
When Tilly and Hess honeymoon in London as newly weds, he later appears married to Carol Kingsley, a brewster while he works as a coachman in London. He and Carol socialize in many groups including the lesbian bar, Artemis’ Huntresses. Gerry and Mort (Paulie’s lover) are his two best friends.
Because he becomes a long standing member of his community he also earns the affectionate title “Grandsire” to indicate his elder status. Later in life, he cares for Gerry’s horses and lives at Radclyffe Heights with the retired Professor Sarah Holburn.
Birthday: January 4th (Capricorn)
Dave is a calm natured female husband. If he were alive in the 2020s instead of the 1800s, he’d most likely be a trans man.

12/22/22- Our prince has arrived!
“Gerry”/Lady Geraldine Starling (formerly Miss Geraldine Davenport)
The chivalrous and knightly wife of Lord Paul Starling (a gay man). Gerry married Paulie mainly as a favor to him. Gerry lives at Radclyffe Heights, The Starling Manor, with Paulie, his devoted life long lover Sir Mortimer Highwater, and the woman she happens to be courting at the time.
She is three years older than Tilly, the same age as Miss Adelaide Green. Tilly looks up to her, as if in awe, when they first meet.
Self described as a “gambling lad of a girl”, Gerry often puts herself in harms’ way to protect other women and gay men. She duels frequently in the story.
Notable connections to other characters:
Coachman Dave (Best Friend), Lord Paul Starling (Legal Husband), Lady Isadora Davenport (Mother), Mrs. Mabel Umber (a widow who becomes her girlfriend), Miss Adelaide Green (her first girlfriend), Miss Angela Townsville (girlfriend), Miss Olivia Beaufort (girlfriend), Professor Matilda Knight (friend who later becomes her long term girlfriend)
Birthday: November 7th (Scorpio)
Gerry is a stone butch with a rash nature.
Her hat has The Starling family crest on it which is a starling bird rising upwards, being flanked by four stars.

12/22/22: I did some character pages! This is Tilly’s character page (I have 3 others I did today).
“Tilly” Matilda Murray/Mr. Matthew Murray-Grey/Professor Matilda M. Knight
Charles and Danice Murray’s second daughter. Rosalie’s younger butch horse-loving sister. Conspired with her sister to make their second governess, Miss Grey’s life miserable because they wanted their first governess Miss Holburn to return.
Tilly becomes a female husband and marries Hester Knight under a new male identity.
Later in life, she finishes her incomplete education and reunites with Miss Holburn to help her run an all girl’s school. They are both professors with college degrees by this point.
Through her sister Rosalie’s social connections, she meets The Starlings (a couple in a lavender marriage- a gay man marries a lesbian) and then becomes Lady Gerry Starling’s long time lover.
Birthday: April 30th (Taurus)
Tilly is a soft butch with a generally naïve nature.

Some of my journaling from earlier today. I had another idea for some of my characters from my NaNoWriMo. Yes, I gave Gerry a side story with a different woman (again). Mabel was never mentioned in the main story because Gerry is with Mabel when Tilly is married to Hess. Gerry isn’t in Tilly’s story for several years and this explains what happened to her in the time between.
I put a purple filter on the kiss between Gerry and Mabel (with Gerry kissing the lipstick off of Mabel).
Basically, I was trying to have as many different kinds of relationships in the story as possible since the LGBT community is diverse. While not necessarily my cup of tea (Gerry does a lot of things I probably wouldn’t- honestly several of the characters do), I wanted to include an intergenerational relationship (between consenting adults ONLY). It seemed somewhat common for gay adults I’ve noticed- maybe less so now that there’s a lot more of us. This story also takes place mostly in the late 1800′s so it’s a historic drama with lesbians, bi women, and several other lgbt characters.
Lady Davenport (Gerry’s mom) is the same age as Mabel and Mabel’s youngest son is younger than Gerry. Mr. Umber is bisexual and he supports his mother when none of his siblings do because he can sympathize with her. He is in awe of the Starlings much like Matilda is earlier in the story.
The bottom picture is Mabel’s youngest son (Mr. Umber in the story), Lady Gerry Starling and Lord Paul Starling are in the last picture. Paul is extremely feminine and is supposed to be Gerry’s opposite.

NaNoWriMo 2022: Day 4
Today was even better for writing (word count wise). However, I’m writing way out of order and all over the place so this is going to suck to try to slap together at the end of the month or whenever I’m done drafting this. I wrote three partial scenes from different parts of the novel.
I have classes off this week so this is when I had the least obligations from school. So the further I get this week, the easier it will be for me to get to 50k.
Day 4 Word Count: 4,205 words

Excerpt (one of several scenes at the Victorian Lesbian bar):
One wife was a lovely lady of forty with a husbandly lover who was likely also near her more mature age. The other couple was probably close to Hess and I in age, maybe only a few years older. The older lady seemed to know Hess, I realized. She had never told me how she came to know about this place. Perhaps she had been here before.
Her husband looked at me with an assessing wise brown eye but said nothing. His gaze intimidated me. What did he think of me? Did he think me worthy of Hess? He gave me a secretive smile and wink.
"You're alright, kid." Was all he said after that tense moment.
I felt warm as though I had received extremely high praise but I couldn't begin explain to you why that was. His look of approval made me feel fortified. I knew without having to even know his name that he was another female husband, out enjoying a night with his wife and their likeminded friends. If I wasn't aware of the concept of female husbandry, I would have simply thought him a neat little gentleman who was with his wife.
He wasn't smoking but handed me his flask. "Mulberry wine, it's the wife's recipe. She came from a brewer's family, makes the finest alcohol in this part of the country. I'd bet my best pistol upon it." He told me, urging me to take a drink.
Ah, it was so delicious!

01. 03. 2023: Card Game at The Crooked Arrow, a Victorian gay bar. Late 1880s.
This is almost behind the scenes but they all love a good game of cards. The players are Carol the Brewster (green dress) and her husband, Coachman Dave (red plaid shirt). Gerry "Lady Lavender" Starling, an heiress and sportswoman (black coat). Sir Mortimer, a former military gentleman (green coat) and Lord Paul Starling, an heir and lover of all things fashionable (blue coat).

01. 02. 2023: Gerry and Adelaide during their first season.
In my head, they were both running around in Gerry's yard just yelling at each other (lovingly) in a reckless lesbian abandon. This was part of a scene idea I had for my WIP.
Lady Davenport (Gerry's mother) and her third husband, Gerry's stepfather, were in the scene too but I didn't draw them here.

12/22/22: Hess’ Character page
“Hess” Hester Knight/ Mrs. Hester Knight Grey
Mrs. Agnes Weston’s maid with a mysterious past. Also connected to another family that Mrs. Weston knows.
Coachman Dave and his wife Carol’s adopted daughter.
Matilda’s second love and first wife.
She looks younger than Tilly but she’s actually a year older than her. Hess has a petit frame but she’s stronger than she looks.
Some of the drama surrounding her character is related to her past including the nickname she received from the other girls at Artemis’ Huntresses (the London lesbian bar in the story) which was “Girlfriend Non Grata.” Her reputation was such that the girls who met Matilda in the bar were surprised that she married Hester, much to Dave and Carol’s annoyance.
Birthday: May 25th (Gemini)
She is a femme with a secretive nature.
A lot of her fashion inspiration is “doll-like”. She wears a lot of lacey/frilly clothes. She looks delicate too- her style is meant to contrast the more earthy Matilda who likes the practicality of workman’s clothing.
