Look, I get everyone is keyed up but it is in fact a crime to threaten a call-center employee with murder no matter how arguably justifiably mad you are at the system

Word Find Tag
I was tagged into this game by @starlit-hopes-and-dreams (tagged into?? it's not a relay but I can't find a better word, and honestly the idea of a writeblr 'relay' where we just pass the tag game baton around is funny enough.) ANYWAY, thanks to them!
My words: linger, last, lean and love
Your words (for those tagged to find): pull, play, prize and poke
I'll be using You Can't Take It Back Now! for the word-find!
Linger:
“There’s not even someone you like?” A lingering silence and downward stare told Sue all she needed to know.
Last:
Abbey was stood off to the side, staring slackly at her: his mouth was slightly agape. “Since when did you speak actual French?” he said in an awed whisper. “Eh, my mom taught it to me when I was nine and I just kept up with it out of habit. We went to Paris last year and I got to brush up on my conversation skills.”
Lean:
“Sorry…” she muttered, catching Amaya’s worried stare. “No, no, it’s okay. When you said you got emotional at movies, I didn’t think it was this bad,” Amaya joked. Sue shot back a watery smile and leaned her head on Amaya’s shoulder.
Love:
The pale whiteness of the recessed aisle lights came on, and Amaya, who had been in a happy daze for the last half an hour, suddenly realised Sue’s head was on her shoulder, their arms were pressed together and their hands were in the kind of hold usually reserved for loved-up couples. Sue stirred beside her, blinked, and mumbled something softly before collecting herself; in a flash, the European burmese extricated her hand from Amaya’s and jolted upright in her seat.
Tagging: @inflarescent, @vanniel, @ryns-ramblings and an open invite to any other writeblrs that want to participate!

Also thank you to @climbthemountain2020 for being my beta and @popjunkie42 for yelling at me to write as needed.
Elain hated the smell of Autumn Whiskey. And firewood. And damn. Okay, the cinnamon smelled good. As a newly avid baker, she couldn’t deny that sweet and spicy cinnamon scent smelled delicious. Feyre always encouraged her to try to trust and rely on her new fae senses. Instead, Elain took the barest whisper of a breath, focusing on inhaling through her mouth so she could block out that scent.
Across from her, sumptuous lips downturned into a subtle frown for the briefest moment before correcting into a casual, amiable smile. Her heart skipped a beat in answer, and she knew he noticed that too. Damn it. He looked beautiful, too.
Firelight danced around Lucien, as if drawn to him. The gleaming orange and reds of his hair cascaded down his back, blending with the rich silk of his maroon jacket. It was too fine for the occasion, subtle threads of gold interwoven in the fabric, creating an eye-catching material that only highlighted his ethereal, imminently fae appearance. The glimmer of gold dangled from his ear, gently swaying with his movements.
A low rumble emanated from him as he chuckled at some quip from Rhys.
Elain began to feel dizzy from low shallow breaths, her heart fluttering as it fought to beat in time with Lucien’s. She forced her mind inward, as if she could force her heart to thrum in the rhythm she willed it. Closing her eyes was a mistake, because now she could feel that tug of the bond, urging her to move closer to him, to crawl onto his lap like a cat.
She opened her eyes and forced herself to focus on the conversation at hand as she sipped at the mostly empty wine (not whiskey) in her glass. Rhys smirked slyly at her as if he read her thoughts. Perhaps he had.
Elain’s irritation only heightened when she became aware of the subject of conversation – Vassa. Of course, Lucien would spend his time with herand her sister talking about Vassa. She didn’t want him to talk to her, and yet that annoying spike of jealousy pricked at her all the same.
“At Summer Solstice.”
“Surely they wouldn’t notice one fae amongst all those people?” Feyre spoke to him with an indignant tone. Elain scoffed against her will.
Sensing an opportunity to defend Elain, Nesta rallied to her side. “They’ll notice, Fey. Look at him” She gestured at Lucien disdainfully.
It was true. Anyone would look at Lucien, tall and with that unnaturally bright hair and the golden whirring eye, and never mistake him as human. He would have the humans either cowering in fear or raising their weapons with his first step into their territories.
That the Nolans, of all people, chose to tolerate his presence on the human side of the wall was something she didn’t understand. Often, she suspected it was spite towards her that encouraged the Nolans to let him eat and sleep in their own, admittedly shabby, manor.
She would notice him anywhere, certainly.
“You think I’m a lost cause then?” Lucien leaned back in his chair as he said it, relaxed, as if it was not the first time he’d been told as much. He crossed his ankle easily over one knee, his elbow on the back of his chair, awaiting Feyre's judgement.
“I think you could make it work, with a well-placed glamour and some” she paused as she wrinkled her nose in thought “adjustments.”
Lucien bellowed a laugh then, his head tipping back and his shoulders shaking.
“I suppose I deserved that.” He placed his hand on his chest in faux sincerity. “Tell me, High Lady, what adjustments would please you?”
Feyre paused for a moment as Rhys grinned, watching them. “Elain, you’re the expert on human customs. What do you think?”
Elain felt her face go hot, her cheeks flushing. How could she politely extricate herself from this conversation? “It’s not just the customs...it’s the behavior.”
His posture was too straight, his voice too low and lilting, his movements too graceful. None of which she would dare say aloud.
“My lady, what of my behavior should I modify?” There was no suggestiveness in his tone, but she heard it, in the way Feyre and Nesta shifted in their seats.
Now she felt like a joke, indignant to have not only her sister, but Lucien, poke at her in this way. The human and the prude were how they saw her, she’s sure.
“The sarcasm would be a good start” She cut in with her arms crossed over her chest.
“I can assure you, Lady, I am utterly sincere. You would be doing a favor to me as well as to the Queen if you would offer your words of wisdom.”
Why should I help her? Elain bit the words back as she observed him. “You can start by bringing your shoulders closer to your chin, you sit much too straight for a human man.”
Lucien brought his chin to his chest at an exaggerated angle that caused her to suppress a laugh. She heard Lucien’s heartbeat quicken. She hated that she could sense him, that she knew he was paying attention. If it were anyone else, she would show him or even place her hands on his shoulders. She didn’t want Lucien to see her look stupid and she certainly couldn’t touch him. So, she sighed in exasperation, trying to think of the best way to explain it.
“Relax your shoulders” He began to shift. “Imagine there is a weight on them, pulling them forward.” She nodded her head encouragingly. “Let your spine curve outward and your chin tilt ever so slightly towards your chest. Act as if you’ve done a long day’s work, whether you have or not. Every human man walks about as if he’s done a long day’s work.”
Lucien frowned as he slouched into his chair, as if it were foreign and the furthest thing from comfortable.
Rhys clapped his hands together in satisfaction. “You’re a natural instructor, Elain. I’ve never seen Lucien look so decidedly unattractive.” Elain fought the urge to glare at Rhys, at the implication that to be human was to be unattractive. Still, she could not fight the comment without stating that Lucien did look attractive. Rhys’s eyes glimmered with satisfaction, baiting her to do just that. Oh.
“I do think it would be beneficial to have our emissary at the coronation, don’t you, Feyre Darling?” Rhys placed his hand at her back as he looked at her for her response. They remained silent for a moment, the unspoken conversation the loudest thing in the room.
“Of course, Rhys. We wouldn’t want to be unrepresented amongst the humans, and it would be good to show Queen Vassa our sign of support.”
“It’s settled then. Lucien, you’ll go to the coronation at Summer Solstice and report back with any pressing news from Scythia.” He turned his gaze in an artfully causal glance towards Elain. “I can trust you to instruct him how to blend in amongst the humans properly?”
Elain’s jaw dropped open in shock at how this had all played in Rhys and Feyre’s favor. She shouldn’t be surprised - Feyre had gone through a bout of pushing her towards Lucien again, certain with Nesta mated and Azriel spending his time in the Autumn Court that Elain would be ready to explore her mating bond. Elain had evaded her at every turn, busying herself with spring planting and learning to can vegetables, something she’d had absolutely no interest in before Feyre had become such a busybody.
Lucien looked towards her, his jaw tightening as he grew serious. “I’m sure Jurian can help me, Rhysand.”
Rhys only batted at the air as if waving the idea away. “Jurian can teach you how to act like a gruff soldier from five centuries ago. He hardly knows how to blend in himself.”
Elain tried to think of a polite way to protest, short of screaming into Feyre’s mind to get her out of this, something she wasn’t sure Feyre would be inclined to do. “I haven’t been amongst humans for several years now, I’m sure someone else would be more qualified.” She swallowed her own distaste as she offered, “Queen Vassa perhaps.”
“Yes, well, you make a fair point but I’m sure the Queen is otherwise occupied preparing to govern Scythia. And anyone else would not be part of the Night Court.”
Lucien cleared his throat, his voice coming out in a rasp. “I’m a quick study.”
The change in his tone caused a warmth to flush to her chest and she couldn’t look at him. She looked towards where Nesta sat, hoping her old ally would intervene on her behalf. Instead, she smirked and raised her brow. Elain knew that look. It was the I told you so. She’d been sent to the House of Wind with Cassian, and now Elain would get the much milder treatment of teaching Lucien how to pretend to be human. Elain would rather hike.
Lucien’s expression was guarded, his eyes looking away from her and his hands clasped against his knees. It was the body of a man preparing himself for another rejection, for her to run away or refuse to spend time with her mate. Not only that, but she’d be refusing yet again to do anything productive for this court, aside from baking that is much better done by the twins. Contrived though this task may be, an effort of matchmaking and meddling more than any true need of Rhys and Feyre’s, it would be counted against her if she refused. It would be another time Elain was too innocent, too fragile, too self-absorbed to truly help the court.
Elain could only look at Feyre as she asked, “How much time do we have?”
*****
“This is a fucking bad idea.” Lucien dragged his hand down his face as he stared at Feyre, placidly drinking her wine across from him. She’d sunk more deeply into the couch cushions, content to stare at the fire and no doubt have some wordless conversation with her mate. He was happy for her but at times their love grew grating.
“I thought you liked bad ideas? I seem to recall the both of us having more than a few.”
“Yes, well. I’ve made enough bad decisions where she’s concerned already.” His stomach tightened as he spoke the words. Hope, too, lingered in his chest, despite his best efforts to push it down. He’d like to make some very specific bad decisions where she’s concerned.
He couldn’t get her laugh out of his mind. She’d laughed and smiled because of him . Even if it was at his expense, it satisfied that primal need to please his mate in his chest. Mate. Mate. Mate.
It was a need that he both resented and couldn’t deny. He hated that at the first sign of interest from her, he was back to this, panting after her like a dog. She’d train him to be a human, the thing she truly wanted. Lucien was fae, had always been proud of it, and couldn’t conceive of his life any other way. Even after the years he’d spent with Vassa and Jurian and coming to appreciate humans more than he ever had, his fae-ness was immutable, a part of his identity as much as the fire in his blood and the sun in the sky.
He could concede, of course, that Elain probably felt much the same about her humanity. They were doomed from the start, always had been.
“The old Lucien might say what’s one more?” Feyre raised her brow as she tiled a glass in his direction. Well played.
That night, Lucien couldn’t sleep. He paced around the stacks of the library, surely wearing a tread in the plush patterned carpets. The symphonia on the hearth played a soothing chant from the priestesses at the library. He’d listened to similar ones during his youth in the Autumn Court, surprised at the emotions the melodious voices could bring out in him. He was not a religious male, certainly not after his experiences in the Spring Court, but the music never ceased to strike a chord inside of him. Today, it only seemed to ignite his feelings rather than soothe them, - an aching need suffused with his anxiety and bitterness.
Without thinking, his steps led him towards the hall outside Elain’s bedroom. He felt like a wretch, lingering outside her door at all hours, craving her scent, calmed by the sound of her steady heartbeat. Lucien sank to the floor, the exhausted weight of his body pulling him down. He leaned against the wall, listening to the steady, soft beat as it lulled him to sleep.
*****
Lucien woke to a very gruff kick to his shin.
“Your mate would not be pleased to find you here” Rhysand’s velveteen voice chided with amusement.
Lucien ran a hand along his jaw, struggling to orient himself as he awoke. It was that sweet honey scent that awakened both his mind, and unfortunately for Rhys, his cock. He leapt to attention with all of the grace of the fae to move away from her door without making a sound. Rhysand didn’t follow him, chuckling as he headed down the stairs.
Lucien collapsed to his bed, allowing himself to wallow in the frustration of yet another day longing for his mate against his will and better judgement. He imagined sleeping every night with her heart beating in sync with his own, her gentle breaths warm against his neck. He longed to hold her, to run his hands through the soft waves of her hair.
What did she know of loneliness, of longing? Elain had always been surrounded by sisters who loved her and protected her. She’d been the sweet, spoiled sister, guarded from the dangers of the forest or the cruelty of family expectations. She’d courted a little lordling, gained status and security and would have happily jumped into a marital bed with that fae hating man. Not Lucien though.
Even before he knew her, his body always craved her, longed for her in the way of the fae. He would have spent centuries never knowing why that place in his chest ached for something he couldn’t name. Her. Elain.
And she was all but disgusted by him. She still resented the fae, had grown up hating them. And now she would contort Lucien into something more palatable to her, more human. And yet, what wouldn’t he do to debase himself just to please her? He’d get on his knees and beg if she would just look at him with an ounce of affection. It’s pathetic.
The only thing to interrupt his wallowing was his pride that at least he would look like a respectable fae male when he came to meet his mate. Elain always looked beautiful, her dresses flowing along the curves of her body and her hair woven in some intricate braid. He wanted to watch the deft way her fingers worked her curls into delicate patterns. Lucien poured oils into his bath, the room filled with the warm scents of amber and myrrh. He hummed to himself as he sank in, repeating the chanting sounds that soothed him from the night before.
 *****
Elain didn’t know why she bothered, even as she twisted and retwisted the curls in her hair, trying to arrange them in a way that looked soft but not intentionally so. She pulled at wisps of hair at her neck and cheeks, letting pieces loose as she huffed a sigh of frustration. Lucien wouldn’t notice such a thing, nor did she care for his opinion. And yet, she couldn’t help wanting him to find her beautiful, prone as he was to staring in her direction. She pinched her cheeks to add a flush, as if she wasn’t always blushing in his presence anyway.
How she was meant to spend the day teaching the most fae male she’d ever met, her mate , to appear human, she wasn’t certain. It was like teaching a fish to breathe air.  She felt the bond constricting like a vice in her chest at the thought. That bitter taste of jealousy joined with it.
He wouldn’t do this for her, he all but reviled human customs when it came to her. He’d never attempted to court her or share any of her human customs. And yet, for Vassa, the human woman he truly admired, he was prepared to don human clothes and change his very demeanor to please her. And to serve the night court, of course, to whom he felt more obligation. Elain would always be the afterthought, sweet, quiet Elain who never made demands or caused trouble.
Elain trounced downstairs, having already worked herself into a sullen mood. The sun had not yet risen, and the halls and parlor glowed with the candles and glimmering orbs that decorated every surface. Garlands of pine and citrus hung from the mantle and across the table, filling the room with a warm, winter scent. Something drew her to the flames as she raised her hand towards them. It called to her own magic. Lucien. Of course it was his magic that lit the flames, that felt like a warm embrace soothing her nerves. Damn him.
Suddenly, it was not just the flames that warmed her, she felt a radiating heat all around her. Just as she predicted, she felt her cheeks go hot and she inhaled his warm, musky scent. His body, tall and broad, stood behind her, practically begging her to lean into him, to embrace the warmth of his touch.
His voice rumbled in her ear as he leaned in close behind her. “I can feel it, you know.”
Gods above. Feel what? She felt herself panic, unsure how to respond, her whole body aflame. “I’m sorry?”
“When you touch my magic like that.” He held out his hand, the flames skittering around his fingers and down to his wrist. Touch him. Taste him.Her body called to her.
Elain had never hated being fae more. As if their heightened senses weren’t enough, now this?
Elain unsubtly cleared her throat, putting on her most proper airs. Lucien dropped his hand, the flames disappearing without a hint of smoke. She took one longing inhale of his scent as he stepped away.
“Shall we get started?” Lucien ran his hand through his hair as he looked at her, his voice a low rumble.
Elain only fluffed her skirts in response. “Yes, let’s. The sooner we start, the sooner we finish.”
A hint of amusement glimmered in Lucien’s eye as he began to walk towards the library.

The View from Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg
How has Mrs. Olinski chosen her sixth-grade Academic Bowl team? She had a number of answers. But were any of them true? How had she really chosen Noah and Nadia and Ethan and Julian? And why did they make such a good team? It was a surprise to a lot of people when Mrs. Olinski's team won the sixth-grade Academic Bowl contest at Epiphany Middle School. It was an even bigger surprise when they beat the seventh grade and the eighth grade, too. And when they went on to even greater victories, everyone began to ask: How did it happen?
It happened at least partly because Noah had been the best man (quite by accident) at the wedding of Ethan's grandmother and Nadia's grandfather. It happened because Nadia discovered that she could not let a lot of baby turtles die. It happened when Ethan could not let Julian face disaster alone. And it happened because Julian valued something important in himself and saw in the other three something he also valued.
Mrs. Olinski, returning to teaching after having been injured in an automobile accident, found that her Academic Bowl team became her answer to finding confidence and success. What she did not know, at least at first, was that her team knew more than she did the answer to why they had been chosen.

Hi everyone!
Here comes the long post that I alluded to recently: What's Next for Lovebird Game Studios. Buckle in!
You all know that I like to be very transparent when it comes to our game development. Sharing the journey with all of you has always helped me keep taking steps. So I’d like to share the decision we came to regarding which game to work on next, and I’d like to explain the thinking behind it as well. It may not be the news you were hoping to hear, but I hope you will also leave here with a sense of excitement and anticipation for what’s to come.
At this time, we have decided to not move forward with a sequel/fandisk of Band Camp Boyfriend.
This is a decision that does not come easy, especially since I know a lot of you were hoping for an Aaron route. We had a lot of fun ideas for the sequel we were excited for and it’s a bit of a heartbreaker to think they won’t come to fruition. I also adore our cast of characters and loved writing them, and will miss doing so. There are many different factors at play that went into making this decision.
Time. The reality is we both work full-time jobs and we have to choose our battles when it comes to this hobby. While the fandisk would be about half the size of the base game, we feel it would still take around approximately 3 years to release (I’d like to say 2, but let's face it: we are slow at game development).
Money. We are incredibly grateful and proud to say that we made back the money we spent making Band Camp Boyfriend. We consider BCB a modest success. However, we don’t feel that the current player base is large enough to justify a sequel, especially since sequels do not typically perform as well as the base game. We have a feeling we would dig ourselves right back into the financial hole and not make it out the second time around.
Art. Particularly the backgrounds. Keep in mind that we commission the art for our games. Most otome games are easily able to pull off a fandisk because they have all of their assets from the base game. Since Band Camp Boyfriend took place in a bottle setting that the characters have now left behind, we would need a ton of new backgrounds for the school setting we had imagined for the sequel. Our background artist is no longer available, so we would have to shop around for someone with a similar style and buy a whole new host of backgrounds. And of course we would need new CGs, new outfits, new everything to really make it exciting.
Inspiration. During our “break,” the creative juices began to flow and we found ourselves gravitating to our next idea. I told myself I wouldn’t write or work on anything until making this choice, but I couldn’t stop myself. And I found myself writing the prologue for our next game and drawing concept art of the characters. Even while listening to music, the music videos that would play in my head shifted away from Band Camp Boyfriend and towards the next game. I guess after 8 years, deep down, I am ready to move onto a new story with new faces. My love for Band Camp Boyfriend runs deeper than the Marian’s Trench, but my heart is leading me into uncharted waters full of hammerhead sharks!
I’m happy to answer questions if you have them. Here are a couple that might be on your mind.
Q: Can’t you just make an Aaron DLC that takes place at band camp? Please, I will give you my left kidney!
A: I want you to keep your kidney, and I’m sorry, but the answer is no. I feel we have conquered band camp and there is no need to return to it. (We actually cut a route--the Leon route--and merged most of the ideas for it into the final route, because it was getting to be too much!) I’m totally burnt out on new ideas in that setting, plus it was wrapped up so wonderfully in that final route. I have no interest in doing another story there.
Another point - even though it would be easier in terms of art assets, we wouldn’t want to phone it in and do an Aaron Band Camp route, in case we were to change our minds about doing a sequel down the road. We would want to do his route as we envisioned it, so it’s best to keep that avenue open.
Q: Can you make a smaller game or just write new scenarios with what you have?
A: As we have learned about ourselves…we are not capable of making small games. Our ideas just keep getting bigger and bigger. We want to release substantial games with hours of playtime. So I guess the answer is no.
Q: If money is an issue, can you run a Kickstarter for the sequel so I can throw money at you?
A: We are probably not ever going to do another Kickstarter. It was a lot of work. It felt really bad when our first one failed and our motivation took a hit. However, I am glad it failed because we wound up releasing 3 years later than we had hoped for, but we didn’t have any pressure weighing on us from Kickstarter. We’ve seen a lot of successfully funded games get abandoned or delayed, and a lot of unhappy fans voice their displeasure and sour on a game completely. You never know what curveballs life will throw at you and these projects can easily face delays. We would hate to let you all down like that. We agree we would rather work at our own pace without that immense pressure. Also, I am kinda old fashioned when it comes to the trading of goods…you give money, me give you game! Unga bunga.
Q: So…that’s it? We’re never getting a sequel?
A: Ehh…all of this aside, never say never. If Band Camp Boyfriend unexpectedly blew up in popularity and had a mind-blowing amount of sales, then I would absolutely reconsider a return to Blue Mountain High School. But I don't really see that happening.
I really hope this news hasn’t made you too sad and I hope you’ll join us for the next game! Saying I am extremely excited for it is an understatement. I’d like to share a little bit of what we have planned and I hope it will get you excited as well, and you won’t leave here feeling too down.
If you loved Band Camp Boyfriend, you will certainly love our next otome game. It will carry the same elements of humor, romance, darkness, and drama you can expect from us—and this time, the stakes are even higher. (I know--what stakes could be higher than high school marching band?!)
The structure of this game will be a bit different. We’re dropping the crazy long common route because we feel like we’ve been there and done that, and it’s a huge headache. I love long common routes but now...I get it, I get why a lot of games have a short one or just have you pick a route, hahaha. This game’s common route will be much shorter (one whole day haha), but each romance route will be a beast in length with larger branches into various endings. The plot is so heavy that it would be best experienced in a specific order so a couple routes will be locked when you start up the game.
There will be heartwarming good endings, tragic bad endings, and somewhat bittersweet endings. And we shall once again have an original soundtrack and partial voice acting, so keep an eye out for that casting call! We plan to cast later in the process so we don’t keep our voice actors waiting around for light years on end.
There will be four main love interests to fall in love with this time around, though I’m certain you will fall in love with even more. This cast will be older, as well, with a 25-year old MC and LIs ranging from 24 to 30. I’m looking forward to writing a more adult story (not 18+, just in tone and perspective). I can’t wait to someday introduce you to them along with the rest of this memorable cast. Or maybe you’ve already heard of them…?
All of this means my social media activity is going to be eclipsed by writing and planning this next game for a while. Our platforms may be a bit quieter, but I will continue to check them of course, so don’t ever hesitate to reach out!
I’ll eagerly be anticipating the day we can start revealing the game and its amazing characters once we have something to show you. It was conceptualized way back in 2019 and been patiently awaiting its turn to shine. There will also be a free demo for you to meet the cast and dip your toes into the plot. For now, we gotta focus on the grind! But I know we have the perseverance to see this through because we’ve already done it once before!
Thank you so much for reading all of this. You deserve a yummy heart-shaped cookie with pink icing for doing so. We really appreciate you all so much! Please look forward to our next game.

This may send shivers, but what are your thoughts about Alejandro? With the senior characters getting close to graduation, I have a bad feeling Alej and Toby will eventually find out Augustus' whereabouts. They've been banned from some high school campus, severely abused two girls half to death, know where the main cast hang out, and harbor a three year grudge against Mike and Lucy. Plus, Toby keeps track and would very likely reveal Auggie's secrets just like he did with Melanie.
I might've answered an ask like this in the past but I've been mostly in the belief BCB doesn't need this villian character given what it's about, so I've been over Alejandro being this boogyman character which appears every so often; he's been somewhat disconnected from the main plot for such a long time now and his appearances are really only there for Augustus to show he's come from a rough place. I had joked too I wouldn't be too surprised if at some point we see the main characters react to Alej and Toby on news being arrested for not getting jobs and paying their rent or something.
Regarding their relationship to the story and where we are now, you'd have to assume at this point four(?) months in that Alej and Toby have no idea where he really is. Considering their relationship and how Augustus had managed to convince Alejandro to leave all the thinking and scheming to him, it might just show that Augustus has withheld a substancial amount of information about the kids but also about himself over the years. So unless they get lucky, they might not find them. That is, unless they file a missing person's report with the police (and you'd have to then assume the police would be positively thrilled to know more about Alejandro given his reputation), they might not even find him before he graduates!
Clearly the real villian in the story are teens and their hormones.
But in all seriousness I hope Alej/Toby doesn't manage but we'll have to see.

Are we in the French Revolution Season of America? Well, we should have been decades ago.
I have a migraine and can't sleep so let me yap about insurance for a bit.
Everyone's heard the UHC CEO was shot dead in NYC. And I'm sure most people are like "yeah, and?" Indeed. I have a unique perspective on this because I work in healthcare, specifically healthcare admin and my actual specialty is fighting claim denials on behalf of my company. I am unusually qualified to have opinions on this. I know quite a bit more about it than the average joe.
United Health Group is a notorious ghoul in the healthcare world, specifically behavioral health (mental health). It surprises me how many people don't understand what I mean when I say "behavioral health". We're talking psych. UHC's vendor for behavioral health is called Optum. Not many people know this but you can have Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance, but your behavioral health benefits can be taken care of by Optum. This is called a "carve out". Insurance companies do this for... God knows why (cost? savings? something to do with saving a buck I'm sure) but it surprises patients time and time again. It doesn't happen super often but it does happen. And what that means is that you have to find providers that take Optum/UHC even though your main insurance is BCBS/Cigna/Aetna/Whatever. Behavioral Health is it's own little special world in the insurance marketplace and it's... sometimes very poorly run and very mismanaged. I work in psych and this isn't my first job working in psychology - so I have a LOT of experience here. When I tell you that Optum is one of the WORST and most predatory behavioral health payors I've ever encountered, I kid you not. The only other tragic fucking mess I've seen that rivals UHC is Cigna's BH group called Evernorth. Oh my god, don't ever try to get any answers at Evernorth - no one there knows how a fucking thing works.
So anyway, what UHC likes to do with patients that get therapy is they will see that a patient is costing them a lot of money - you know, actually using the benefits they pay premiums for. They'll then decide that this can't continue and they'll stop paying for services until the provider that is doing them undergoes a "Medical Records Review". What that means politely is that they think you're over-using their benefit and they don't want to pay for this service, so you now have to prove that you need it. This is usually a taske the provider must do. Our providers must write an appeal and submit the patient's records for review to UHC. You might think "so what? submit the paperwork". Not so fast. The process is not cut and dry. You have to write the review, which is time the provider isn't being paid for. They must then give it to someone (me) or fax the paperwork themselves, while also compiling their medical records which usually means months worth of notes. This means in our practice that we must have a medical records person submit the documents to our boss, who then signs off on them after proofing them - this is so the records meet requirements medically. Then we have to compile, sort and fax the paperwork and then we get to track it. Meanwhile, the payments for the service stop. UHC does not continue to pay for services while a review is in process. You just have to assume it will work out. Our success rate with these reviews is low, something like 40%... so our providers often just opt not to do them. When I tell you it doesn't matter what the provider writes in the review or who does it, I mean it. We have a Harvard trained Psychologist who sees patients for talk therapy and knows all the specifics. She wrote one of these for a patient, gave it to me, I sent it, tracked it, etc. It was magically approved (one of the only successes I've personally seen) and then 6 months later they did it AGAIN and this time our Psych was like "I'm not doing this anymore, we've proven she needs the therapy, her situation hasn't magically changed in 6 months!" The patient had complex issues that definitely required therapy and pharmacological intervention. I also get calls from Optum, about 1-2 a month wherein a doctor will call us and say they're from Optum and they're stopping services because X, Y, Z. They'll say that the diagnosis doesn't require the amount of visits that the patient has had and I can't argue with them - I just note it and relay the message. Every single Psychologist in our practice hates UHC. Whenever the email I write contains the word "Optum" or "Denial" the providers tell me they don't even want to read them LOL I do not get the same kind of denials from any other insurer, JUST Optum. That tells you something. There is no insurance company I like, to be frank, but if you asked me who I hated the most it's Optum. And the funny thing is that our healthcare through my job is UHC (but I can't afford it). The benefits are outrageously expensive and have high deductibles. Count me out.
That was a lot of words to say that their processes are in place to make things hard on providers and on patients. They want it to be difficult, confusing and nearly impossible to navigate. They bank on you not knowing anything - so the best thing to do is know AS MUCH as you possibly can. What I described here is the main reason why I can not work for an insurance company or become a broker, I do not like or want to sell anyone any of it. I hate insurance and I think it's all a huge scam.
An insurance company's first priority is to keep profit margins high. It is not to help provide excellent care. It's not patient satisfaction. You give them money and they aim to keep it. That's it. So, a CEO is most definitely in charge of helping to keep that company profitable. Insurance companies make BILLIONS - yes, BILLIONS of dollars - a year. They're not "just scraping by".
My number one concern has ALWAYS been single payer healthcare in the US and I have never quite figured out why people are so against the idea. I know why greedy companies don't want it to happen and all I can assume is that the lobbying against it and spreading of misinformation and fear mongering is the reason it's gotten in to so many people's heads that it's "bad". Look around you, does it seem like anything is working well the way it is?

for your bcb confusion -- I'm pretty sure what he's asking is "did you hear Mike talking to the others" and she's like "i didn't hear the words but I know he's over there." he's like Concerned because of the Recent History. i Think
hi!! omg thanks for answering i actually didnt expect anyone would see that agdjfk😂 i get that this is what theyre talking about but i guess the thing im more confused about w these last few pages is why is it such a big deal in the first place that mike is over there running with his team, like
Tumblr media
they both had such an extreme reaction here that i was honestly expecting the next page would be fucking alejandro walking around in broad daylight even though i literally could read in the bubbles that it was just mike talking to james
i mean i guess it has to be just that shes surprised/upset to see him but still why react so strongly?? their last interaction before this moment (if im not missing something) was this
Tumblr media
which yeah obviously theyre on bad terms but not so bad that she would have a ptsd moment just from him being around, also they were literally in class together earlier, idk, but also then again she IS currently having a really bad day so
sorry i didnt expect to ramble about it so much im not usually a guy for theorizing for a comic that will update in just a few days but this is the first time a series of updates has left me so confused gfjfk, but again itll probably be explained in the rest of the chapter
anyway thanks for taking the time to try and answer me and also thanks for being one of the few people who talks about this comic on tumblr!!

None of the rich folk upstairs know that Serafina exists; she and her pa, the estate’s maintenance man, have secretly lived in the basement for as long as Serafina can remember.
But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows who the culprit is: a terrifying man in a black cloak who stalks Biltmore’s corridors at night. Following her own harrowing escape, Serafina risks everything by joining forces with Braeden Vanderbilt, the young nephew of the Biltmore’s owners. Braeden and Serafina must uncover the Man in the Black Cloak’s true identity... before all of the children vanish one by one.

The Clique by Lisi Harrison
Enter Claire Lyons, the new girl from Florida in Keds and two-year-old Gap overalls, who is clearly not Clique material. Unfortunately for her, while they look for a new home, Claire's family is staying in the guesthouse of the one and only Massie Block—Queen Bee of Octavian Country Day School. Claire's future looks worse than a bad Prada knockoff. But with a little luck and a lot of scheming, Claire might just come up smelling like Chanel No. 19.
Meet the rest of the Clique:
Massie Block: With her glossy brunette bob and laser-whitened smile, Massie is the uncontested ruler of The Clique and the rest of the social scene at Octavian Country Day School, an exclusive private girls' school in Westchester County, New York. Massie knows you'd give anything to be just like her.
Dylan Marvil: Massie's second in command who divides her time between sucking up to Massie and sucking down Atkins Diet shakes.
Alicia Rivera: As sneaky as she is beautiful, Alicia floats easily under adult radar because she seems so "sweet." Would love to take Massie's throne one day. Just might.
Kristen Gregory: She's smart, hardworking, and will insult you to tears faster than you can say "my haircut isn't ugly!"
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransom
Swallows and Amazons introduces the lovable Walker family, the camp on Wild Cat island, the able-bodied catboat Swallow, and the two intrepid Amazons, Nancy and Peggy Blackett.
Spy School by Stuart Gibbs
Ben Ripley may only be in middle school, but he’s already pegged his dream job: C.I.A. or bust. Unfortunately for him, his personality doesn’t exactly scream “secret agent.” In fact, Ben is so awkward, he can barely get to school and back without a mishap. Because of his innate math skills, Ben isn't surprised when he is recruited for a magnet school with a focus on science—but he’s entirely shocked to discover that the school is actually a front for a junior C.I.A. academy. Could the C.I.A. really want him?
Actually, no. There’s been a case of mistaken identity—but that doesn’t stop Ben from trying to morph into a supercool undercover agent, the kind that always gets the girl. And through a series of hilarious misadventures, Ben realizes he might actually be a halfway decent spy…if he can survive all the attempts being made on his life!
My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara
It seems Ken can't do anything right. He loses saddle blankets and breaks reins...but then comes the worst news yet: a report card so bad that he has to repeat a grade. How can you tame the dreamy mind of a boy who stares out of the window instead of taking an exam? Enter Flicka, the chestnut filly with a wild spirit.
Over the course of one magical summer, both will learn the meaning of responsibility, courage, and, ultimately, friendship.
Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson
AN ANCIENT RIVALRY REAWAKENS.
Everything I'd known about the world was a lie.
On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry ( yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask ) received my a bag of sand . And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear !
I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think! It turns out they’re actually a secret cult keeping the truth from you―a hidden world filled with magical eyeglasses, talking dinosaurs, and knights with crystal swords!
Or so my Grandpa Smedry claimed when he suddenly showed up to rescue me. So now I have to go with him to invade the local library and get that sand back, before it's used to conquer the world. And Grandpa says how I keep breaking things is actually an amazing talent. There’s no way that can all be true, right?
Will I ever make it back home alive?

Really tempting fate by putting BTWIFY on for a quick listen. What song am I gonna start crying during? Tune in to find out.
Every time I Hear That Song is such a strong opener for what this album is. Setting the bar for how revealing the whole project is.
The Joke is such a special song, and the covers of it so seldom do it justice.
Hold Out Your Hand is the answer for when I start crying, which is new.
The Mother is the best song BC has ever written, full stop. Also, this song is the single reason I can picture myself becoming a parent. The backstory makes me cry every time I think about it too hard. Or when I just listen to it.
Whatever You Do is so freaking specific, and so clearly personal and true. I have a very specific memory of truly *hearing* this song for the first time while I was in a Dillard’s and just being struck by the honesty of it. Like a confession she couldn’t keep in. Also can’t believe they toured this entire album. Absolute blood letting of performances. The scream at the end always chokes me up. Also, the performance of it on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is so incredible.
Fulton County Jane Doe is the moment that the album feels fully committed. Some of that is that it starts the B side.
Sugartooth is so beautifully constructed, really feels like a reach back stylistically to Bear Creek. Secret Sisters adds a lot.
Most of All voices the exact kind of love and forgiveness that comes with being an adult and understanding your parents. Bless Tim for this one.
Harder to Forgive makes me insane in a way that’s difficult to explain. Who the f*ck writes about this stuff so explicitly??? There’s just such a barren sheen of metaphor this whole album that makes it so raw and yet it’s musically so polished because BCB is insane. Also, want to emphasize how insane their commitment for all their album tracks being replicable with live performance is. Who does that????
Party of One… what else is there to say? The strings? The way BC got this in a single take? The way that this is so heart rendering as a lesbian who is scared to commit to anything because a failure would mean your identity might be somehow unearned??? The performance of it? The catharsis of the ending and the promise and stability of it? I think if I ever hear this song live I will be ash. Anyway, earnestly crying now. Happy Sunday.

hi hii !!! i have such bad bcb brainrot ever since the game came out so i was just wondering if you guys had a favorite LIs just in general or ones that were your favorites to write, develop, etc etc yknow ?? I can’t tell if you have biases or not😭😭
AGHHH ANON that's like asking us to choose between our kids. But I'm glad you can't tell because I know I don't enjoy things where the author has a clear preference, or otomes where they make it clear one boy is more "canon" than the others, because I always wind up liking a guy more off the beaten path. We like to view them all as equally valid.
But to try to answer your question in some form...and there's no way I'll be able to just talk about one boy without complimenting them all...I think of the LIs my favorite overall character is Poptart. He's too adorable and my fellow mello and I loved writing his story. But we both love Tom and acknowledge he's closest to our IRL type. I also love Tom with Cadence...and I also love Clark with Cadence because I enjoy rivals to lovers and tsunderes (his final CG makes me cry the most)...and I really really enjoyed writing Peter's chemistry and banter with Cadence. And Sam I have a soft spot for because he's quiet and subtly savage and super relatable with his love of music. Garth and Doug probably grew on me the most. Garth, when we gave him more flaws and a darker side, and Doug because I fell more for the himbo trope over time. Doug was like the shallow meme guy at first, but really came together as we went deeper with him, and he's one of the guys who makes us laugh the most.
Sorry to go on and on, everyone needs some kind of yearbook superlative hahaha. We love all of them for different reasons. <3
