Ok: 10 years after the events of Deltarune headcanons (assuming all characters survive)?

Ditto Post-Pacifist route in Undertale?

I dunno if I can say much for Undertale post-pacifist because it seems like the post credits scene and the alarm clock dialogue all cover it pretty decently! Toriel's opened a school, Asgore seems content to just stick with his gardening, Alphys and Undyne get together, Sans and Papyrus seem happy to just be travelling around and exploring together. I do like going with the option that Frisk chose to become the ambassador and to stay with Toriel, and I like the idea that Sans got really into astronomy now that he's on the surface. It seems like they all still get together to hang out as a friend group/family for holidays and events in the alarm clock dialogue, so I like to think that that keeps up for years. I know it's easy to imagine things being really rocky for the monsters after being reintroduced to society, but I honestly just like the idea that things go smoother than expected, and while not perfect, everyone is just very content.

For Deltarune, hmm...while I feel like Kris and Noelle would be encouraged and expected to go to college, I'm not sure if Susie would be able to get in...and even if she did, if she would really enjoy an academic setting that much. Not sure if Kris and Noelle would go to the same college, or the same one Asriel is at! I think Susie and Noelle would get together, but it might be a tough few years if Noelle is in college and Susie's not there with her. But I can see Susie travelling around a lot, gaining a lot of hands-on experience doing odd jobs for people, and being seen as dependable in various circles, while stopping by the college to visit Noelle. By the time Noelle is out of college, Susie's amassed all these connections to basically do some real hands-on work with building or landscaping and such, and can support the two of them with that, so Noelle becomes a fantasy writer.

Kris isn't sure what they want to do at first, and they move back home after college for awhile helping around at the various businesses in Hometown, before eventually acting as Asriel's producer when he decides to actually finish and put out one of his video games. Turns out Kris does have a knack for coordinating people and good decision-making, and keeps doing this with various projects for Asriel and their other friends until they're pretty adept at it.

Berdly has pretty middling grades through college but gets really into streaming because he just likes to talk so much, and ends up doing decently for himself with that. Catti and Jockington get together, with Jockington becoming a minor league soccer player and Catti making some cash doing tarot readings. The whole gang see and hang out with each other and their families for holidays and especially for the Hometown festival every year.

Headcannons it is :D

Starting with Queen:

She is a Clash of Clans goddess (look the game up if you don't know what it is)

She's responsible for making some of the most difficult Geometry Dash levels--again, look up the game if you SOMEHOW don't know what it is xP

Despite being a Windows XP computer, she can somehow change her own background theme in Hometown, causing anyone who sees it to get utterly confused and distressed

She cares for Noelle so much partly because she can sympathize with her on a level nobody else can

Going off the previous hc, I think she may have had a parent of hers die when she was young, assuming she had parents lol Idk

She secretly thinks Berdly's pretty cool despite all she did to him

She knows things about Kris, Susie, Berdly and ofc Noelle, partly because all of them have used her Lightner computer form at least a few times

Water wouldn't harm Queen, she's too OP for that

Queen didn't show up in Card Kingdom until she was in her early 20s, and likely didn't stay there for even a decade

Queen's in her early 30s by the time we meet her in-game, in my eyes 31-33

Now for Spade King, some might be the same as yours :>

Spade King didn't have the best parenting growing up and was always under heavy scrutiny/criticism, likely from a combination of anger issues and his parents having super high expectations

He hung out with the other kings but always felt like an outlier and felt left out, but never mentioned it to them. He never fully trusted them in terms of leadership skills and general competence

Spade King's parents either passed away or vanished somehow when he was a late teen and he had to learn how to be a ruler at a younger age. I personally think all the kings come from royal families, and Spade King's parents were the first to go. This forced Spade King to cooperate with the other, much older royals, which he did not like at all

C. Round was kinda Spade King's version of a family pet and one of the very few Darkners he actually enjoyed hanging out with as a child, and because of this he later let C. Round roam free as it pleased and never put any restrictions on it

Spade King absolutely hated Jevil even before Jevil went insane. I like to think Jevil went insane while all four kings were in charge, and before that often did acts for the kings' parents. Jevil would often target and tease Spade King when he was young, albeit in a silly and playful manner, but Spade King always held grudges against him for it

Seam is one of the very few Darkners Spade King respects, hence why Seam is just chillin' in their shop with no need to attack or imprison Kris & Susie in the first chapter. Spade King always liked Seam because Seam would often interact with him in a calm and compassionate manner when he was a child

Spade King always tried to make room for Lancer despite his very busy job, and was often the one who cooked for his son

Spade King knew how incompetent Rouxls Kaard acted but always believed Rouxls had tons of secret potential he was wasting away, hence why he promoted him to Duke of Puzzles in an attempt to get Rouxls to show his true colors, albeit it didn't work lol

Spade King mandated that all Rudinn Rangers wear visors to protect their faces so they don't accidentally hurt themselves with their longer knives, guards aren't really competent if they accidentally harm themselves all the time xP

One year for Halloween Spade King had Lancer dress up as a pumpkin while he himself dressed up as a blueberry, who says kings can't have a little fun sometimes?

Spade King's in his mid-to-late 30s in-game, likely around 34-37

Spade King is a coffee addict, Idc if you don't like coffee you have to admit the guy needs something to keep him functioning during the day

1. As someone who used to play that with certain hacks and cheats, she would absolutely spend hours attacking other clans and villages whenever she was bored. She'd like the Pekas and maybe the Archers

1. Abso-fucking-lutely. This man did not have a stable childhood which affected him with how he patented Lancer. Not even the previous monarchs liked his parents too much

2. I feel like he and the other king fought alot, both as kids and as adults. None of them fully trusted each other

3. Yeah, I imagin he was crowed between 17 or 18, so he was still very young and waa definitely not suitid to rule, epessilly along side monarchs he would have otherwise avoided. Not to mention they probably dismissed him since they were all older and experienced in ruling and didn't think he had any good input.

Historically, kings and jester were actually pretty close and the kings allowed jesters to do alot, so I like to implement that into dr.. it is fucked that he went after King when he was just a child. 6. Lowkey, I love imaging that Seam is old as fuck and they often took care of baby king, sort of the same way Rouxls cares for Lancer, and he began referring Seam as a parental figure, sometimes accidently calling them "Mom" when he was tired

Cold‐Banded Killer route [Aka DevilsX route]

A while back I posted this onto Reddit but I decided to bring it over here to add onto with some new ideas

Original post:

The route:

▪︎Attack Ralsei Dummy 5 times

▪︎Use a new act to glare at Ralsei

▪︎Battle ends

▪︎Ralsei asks if you'd like him to go look for Susie and you can meet up with them when he finds her

▪︎Agree

▪︎Fight all darkners in the field

▪︎In the first puzzle with the spikes and 3 buttons there are rocks on the buttons

▪︎Reunite with Susie and Ralsei at the puzzle that requires all 3 of you

▪︎In the C. Round fight force Kris and Ralsei to attack, the combined damage gives C.Round a scar but it still flees

▪︎Susie says they did an awesome job before questioning why Kris seems so bothered

▪︎The Seap is closed but in front of it is a chest with a weapon in it called the Banded Sword (Light World equivalent: Pencil with a rubber band glued to it, "BandPen")

▪︎If you try to attack the King, Susie will stop you and say she promised Lancer they wouldn't kill him

▪︎Either way, after leaving Susie will tell Kris they should go back to see Lancer and Ralsei sometime.

Notes:

After beating Jevil you get a permanent X-Slash you can use since Seam's Seap stays closed throught the route

If you try to be merciful immediately after getting the Sword, then the sound of Jevil's laughter will play, your sword will be replaced with a second Wood Blade, and the route will be aborted, after you reach the forest, Seam's Seap will be open and if you fight Jevil, he'll make fun of you, this prevents you from doing things like only killing Susie and Berdly, which while it would be interesting, would destroy the story [may discuss as a what if in the future]

Chapter 2 effects:

Only non-murdered characters will be in the Castle Town

Characters who were witnesses of the Weird Route trust Kris less

It still plays Empty Town instead of My Castle Town unless you recruit 5 or more enemies in chapter 2

Deltarune: I saw some people speculating on The Knight There’s a candidate people often do not seem to take seriously. Discussions are dominated with ideas like, “Kris is the Knight,” or “Papyrus is the Knight.” But, when replaying chapter 1 a while back, I noticed something: I think it’s Alphys:

Alphys is rather insistent that Kris and Susie, in particular, go off to get the chalk. She notably ignores Noelle offering to go in favour of sending those two off together. This might be fairly normal - Maybe Alphys has picked up on Noelle’s transparently blatant crush and has made the executive decision to not send them to the closet during school hours, for example. Except... First, she teaches the class anyways. If she sent someone else, or went in to the closet after you, wouldn’t that person also have also fallen into the Dark World? How did she get chalk? Did she ever even need chalk? We even see Susie standing next to the door the entire time - When did chalk change hands? Second: Right after you enter in to that dark world, the closet is shut behind you. If you return to it at the end of the chapter, it’s locked. Alphys, as faculty, has access to the key to it; it seems like it’s a small enough school to not have a principal or anything, so the only people involved seem to be Alphys, Toriel, and the now-deceased Gerson. Aphys would have a key - and would know you are in the Dark World Third: So far, we have seen four people have entered the Dark World. Each time, in a group of two. Each group of two is a team working on the school project. Consider that both are places Alphys sent those groups, as well - Noelle and Berdly are the ace students, and regularly go to the library because Noelle dislikes going to her home and Berdly has a job there. In other words, as her teacher, Alphys would very well have known that Noelle and Berdly would have gone to the library and and thus had every ability to sent them to their own Dark World. That same day, Alphys has crashed her bike. This is more speculative, but it’s possible she got in, got out and made herself scarce. Suppose she was more distracted, as she needed to flee the scene after a Dark Fountain was opened?

But lets consider more deeply - Alphy’s role in Undertale

Characters in Deltarune “Rhyme” with their iterations in Undetale. Asgore is still divorced, and has flowers that he tends too. Toriel takes care of children and is a school teacher. Undine is the head of the police, analogous to a royal guard. And so on. So, what is Alphys? Alphys is a brilliant scientist wrapped with dark tendencies as she knows she has done things which may well be unforgivable. She is obsessed with anime, and has a deep desire for acceptance. She, among other things, has build Mettaton’s body, took over the mantle of royal scientist from Gaster and continued his experiments, and delved into experiments into the injection of determination. These aspects are all very hidden from the outside world, which perceives her as a somewhat-ineffectual scientist who is obsessed with anime, and does not consider these darker aspects Right now, in Deltarune? Alphys is your amusing home-room teacher, obsessed with anime and out-of-touch. So awkward that she always seems nervous just doing her job, and she has a somewhat pathetic presentation - doing things like hanging out in alleys and putting out milk for a cat that does not exist. So, that’s a parallel. But it’s only a part of a parallel to how she was in Undertale. The other half? Well... Let me list a few things:

Spamton Neo was noted to have been drawn up by a Lighter and then abandoned. Spamton sought out that body manifested into it, in a parallel to Mettaton. Spamton is also obsessed with phones - and the mysterious voice on the other end of it. Who’s the one character heavily associated with phones? Alphys, who upgrades your phone. Not only that, but Alphys guides you along her plans through the entire chapter that focus on her in Undertale, using her phone. And, who built Mettaton’s body? That’s also Alphys. It’s also worth mentioning Alphys’ experiments into determination, carrying on from Gaster. What is the framing device of Deltarune? It’s a survey program set up by Gaster - some great experiment. And, in order to create a Dark World, one must thrust their determination into the ground. In other words: If Alphys is the Knight, then she is STILL doing dark experiments into Determination. She’s still carrying on Gaster’s work! There’s even how the infamous Entry 17 refers to two people - Like how each project group in in pairs. Next: A major hole in this theory is that Alphys seems to express concern for us, and seems ignorant to what is really going on. Except that’s not actually a contradiction, because this behaviour is EXACTLY what we see through her entire chapter in Undertale. Alphys is not only capable of lying to our face in order to keep herself seeming like an innocent - she has done it all before and it would be consistent with her past behavior.

And, seen above, she spends her time hanging out in an alley - one notably decorated with flowers from Asgore, with graffiti of the Everyman seen in Reaper Bird’s attack, and taking care of a “Pet.” Surely, that is an allusion to her role in Undertale (The Everyman is also interesting - We see it only here, in Dark Worlds, and in the True Lab; if she IS the knight, all of those places are connected, specifically, with her. ) And, aside from that, Alphys has every reason to want a world with more magic in it. Alphys is a teacher, and not even a very effective one, who is easily able to be pushed around by the bullies in her own class. She is desperate for the affection of kids 10 years her junior, putting up anime reviews at the “Teen Zone” and insisting that she is the “Cool Teacher.” She raises a cat she only -imagines- exists, and is, as always, obsessed with anime. Unlike in Undertale, she has no relationship with Undine, and no status as a royal scientist either. So, at the moment, her life is framed as kind of pathetic, and her interests are in that of fantasy - Of anime, video games, and cartoons - which is exactly what the Dark World might provide. So she has the motive. She has the ability. And she has done things just like this in the past - albeit in a different timeline.

like ok in my perfect little world she just teaches math and science, and if you’re really going to make me acknowledge that in chapter 2 berdly reads a passage from a tale of two cities. language arts, too. I Guess. :/ like this is still kind of insane but it’s more sensible than the idea that she teaches everything because ???. in order for this to be like. a high school that gives out High School Diplomas the kids need to be taking language arts, math, science, social studies/humanities (history and the like), and they need to have like. 9...ish... elective credits by their senior year to graduate. one person cannot be teaching all of those classes.

and in my perfect little world undyne is actually the PE teacher because *takes away her canon career choice* and because i just think she’d be well-suited to it. she’s noelle and jockington’s (and berdly’s because no one is taking this headcanon away from me) cross country coach. i don’t think hometown high has any other sport teams solely because there isn’t enough kids, but if there were more, she’d coach those other teams, too. don’t ask me who else teaches at this school btw i do not know and i will cry

but like. alphys teaching PE is literally the funniest thing on the planet . you all saw how she fumbled with the Missing Chalk Incident. and in chapter 2 she says absolutely nothing when berdly hops up onto his desk, and please note how she said “we’re continuing the reading from page 142” and the first thing out of berdly’s mouth is literally the first sentence of a tale of two cities. genuinely i think he started the whole fucking book over from the beginning and she just accepted this as her fate and that class was going not going to make any progress that day

high schoolers do not want to participate in PE. in order to be even mildly successful in teaching the subject, a PE teacher has to be high energy, confident, an encouraging force who is good at pumping up others and getting them excited for something they weren’t looking forward to 5 minutes ago - qualities that alphys does. not possess. (and tbh all of the PE teachers i had in high school lacked these qualities too. i’ve never had a PE teacher that was good at their job because they were all easily defeated by teenage stubbornness and attitude, but i think this is something undyne could easily overcome and it would be a good outlet for all her excess energy.)

like. imagine. it’s volleyball day. due to the odd number of kids alphys has decided to go with three player teams. they’ll play a match, and the losing team will switch out with the three kids sitting out, and they’ll just keep going like that. alphys gives susie the ball, because she’s the right back of the designated serving team, and she’s like, “a-alright, susie, y-you can go ahead and start us off. b-but! because th-this was an issue last time, please try to remember that we aren’t playing dodgeball-” and that’s it. ‘dodgeball’ is the only word susie hears. she holds the ball high over her head and yells “GUYS! DODGEBALL!!!!!” and she throws it at snowy. kris hops off the bleachers (they were part of the team sitting out) and goes over to the ball cart that alphys foolishly left unattended. they open it up and start tossing out balls onto the court - most of these are not dodgeballs. no one cares.

soon enough, volleyballs, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, and like 1 and a half actual dodgeballs are flying all over the place and everyone is laughing and yelling. alphys blows her whistle. it has no effect. the balls continue bouncing off the walls. alphys puts her face in her hands and sobs. the only thing that gets this nightmare of a dodgeball game to stop is the bell ringing

and because they weren't really using actual dodgeballs, there's carnage. this carnage includes: berdly's glasses being snapped in half, catti's screen protector shattering (no matter how many times alphys tells her to put her phone away she never listens so alphys has just given up forever), temmie losing a tooth (they grow back no matter how many times she loses them), one of noelle's antlers being prematurely knocked off (shedding season), and black eyes for kris, susie, and MK

For the past day or so you have been making your followers cringe with a hypothetical Deltarune MCU adaptation. In front of you is a computer currently displaying your tumblr account. You have 24 hours to write a cringeworthy mcu fandom-esc selfship fanfic with Berdly. Should you fail, your followers will instead fill this fandom ship niche with their own fanfic, almost certainly resulting in something far worse than whatever you could come up with. Will you succumb to the awful awful idea that you have unleashed, or will you finally get a taste of your own medicine? Live or die, the choice is yours.

christ alive. it's done. i really tried to write from the voice of a 13 year old mcu fan back in like 2014 and i really hope it doesn't come off as mocking anyone in particular. anyone who reads this i Promise you this writing style is put on and that i am a better writer than this actually

After the roaring knight turned out to be a personification of the fun gang's insecurities and was defeated by the power of friendship and also Triple Spamvil Neo 5000, the almighty fusion between Spamton and Jevil that had two laser cannon arms instead of one and flossed a lot, the heroes and all their friends decided to live together in Ralsei's castle in Castle town 2.0, a haven for all darkners and Lightners where everyone could live together and be happy since it was made of a different kind of darkness then all the others. Susie and Ralsei were now King and queen (Author's note: can be romantic or platonic depending on what you like best but all im gonna say is i LOVED the scene where he saved her from falling off a cliff and then said "I think you just fell for me" >_<) and Kris was Crown Prince(ss) (Author's note: haven't decided on a gender for Kris yet LOL). They were all roommates and everyone was happy.

Well, except for one person. Berdly, even though he was the reason the gang got out with their lives when he said "It's spammin' time" to summon Triple Spamvil 5000 (a.n: who else LOVED that morbius reference🤣), was still alone, his room in the castle was just a broom closet under the stairs and all he was ever fed was bread crumbs twice a day. Both Susie and Noelle had rejected him even though he was such a nice guy because they said he wasn't their type. Berdly's life in Castle Town 2.0 was TERRIBLE and he wished he had never helped them out at all.

Then one day he met someone who changed his life forever. She was half Darkner, half Lightner due to being born from one of the last Dark fountains to be sealed and her name was (Y/N). She first met Berdly when she was seeing King Ralsei and Queen Susie in the throne room to discuss her new job, the Lightner-Darkner ambassador.

Susie, Ralsei and (Y/N) were walking through the castle halls. "Well (Y/N)" said Ralsei, "I am very glad we got to meet you. It seems like you will be a perfect fit for the job of ambassador."

(Y/N) beamed. "Thank you your majesty. I will do my duty with pride. Being the only Lightner-Darkner hybrid in the world isn't easy, but I know it'll give me a special insight for this job."

Susie yawned loudly. "UGH," she complained, "Ralsei, didja HAVE to drag me along with you to talk to this priss? You know I hate di- di- diplodicus."

"Y-You mean diplomacy." Said Ralsei.

"Ugh, what-EVER," Susie groaned. "If I don't get to break something right now Im gonna explode" She turned suddenly and smashed an expensive vase sitting on a column. (Y/N) and Ralsei jumped back, (Y/N)'s kalidoscope orbs shining with fear.

"S-Susie!" sputtered Ralsei, terrified. "Y-You have to stop breaking vases! They're expensive!"

Susie roared with laughter. "Whatever toothpaste boy. Hey!" She looked around, snapping her fingers. "Where's Nerdly? He'll clean it up for me. Nerdy!"

Berdly came skittering quickly over from around the corner. "Y-Yes your ma-"

He stopped in his tracks, eyes landing on (Y/N). She was beautiful, there was no doubt about it. Her striped whitr-and-black hair humg around her shining skin like a halo, and she wore a gorgeous floor-length gown that glittered with every color of the rainbow.

Forget Noelle, this was the first real angel Berdly had ever seen. He suddenly realized hed been staring too long and cleared his throat blushing

"Uh... yes, your majesty?"

Susie motioned to the mess on the floor. "Clean that up. And don't take so long this time, I don't wanna see your ugly face stilll here in half an hour again."

Berdly looked miserably at the broken mess om the floor. "B-But your majesty, you said I could have a day off today-"

"Berdly" Ralsei said sternly. "Listen to your queen."

Berdly sighed sadly and dropped to the floor, and (Y/N) suddenly felt terrible for this boy who seemed like he just wanted to live a nice life in Castle Town.

"Excuse me," she touched his wing and he froze, blushing, "Don't worry about that. I'll clean it up."

She snapped her delicate fingers and in a second, the shards had disappeared. Leaving the floor clean again.

Berdly blinked in surprise. Susie's eyes narrowed. "Aw, c'mon, wheres the fun in that?! He always does the cleaning here! It's fun to watch him suffer!"

Ralsei tried to intervene, "Susie, please-"

"I don't care if you don't like him," (Y/N) challenged the dragon, stepping closer adversarially. "It's wrong to treat anyone this way. He obviously only wants to be friends with you and you're being very unfair."

Susie, not used to being told she's wrong, glared at (Y/N), smoke flowing out of her nostrils. "I'm Queen here!" she yelled. "I should be able to do what I want! Ugh, i'm gonna need some chalk for this" She stormed off, stomping down the hall. Good riddance, (Y/N) thought, though she was too polite to say it out loud.

Ralsei hurried after Susie meekly. "S-Susie, calm down-" Leaving (Y/N) and Berdly alone in the hall.

Berdly couldn't believe what had just happened. Someone had stood up for him! Someone cares how he feels! No one not even Noelle had ever tried to challenge the way he was treated ever since he moved to Castle Town 2.0 and now this gorgeous girl was leaning down and smiling at him.

"Are you alright?" She asked kindly, holding out her hand for him to take. "I'm sorry that happened. What's your name?"

"B-Berdly," he stammered taking her hand and quickly getting to his feet. "W-Who are you? I've never seen anyone like you before."

She blushed at that, and Berdly's heart skipped a beat. Her orbs turned bright pink, the color of happiness... and love?

"(Y/N)," she said quickly. "I'm the new darkner Lightner ambassador. Please to meet you Berdly!" Her face turned sad all of a sudden. "Do they... all treat you like that?"

Berdly's blue orbs turned dark with sadness as he looked down, muttering "Ever since I moved here. I helped them defeat the Roaring Knight too. And yet even my old friends seem to hate me now..."

"That's so sad!" (Y/N)'s eyes turned a deep blue to show her sorrow. "I'm sorry Berdly. You don't deserve this."

Berdly blushed again, shrugging. "Not much i can do"

Suddenly, (Y/N) reached out and took his hand, something that no one had done in a long time "Well I'm going to do something about it. Mark my words Berdly, no one'll treat you like a slave again as long as I'm here. Now, tell me about yourself."

She took his wing and they set off down the hall, walking and talking and laughing and Berdly could feel that this girl was going to change his life.

Deltarune Chapter 2 Replay Review

In the past I've talked about Deltarune Chapter 2 in little pieces, but never gave a full in-depth review on it. After recently revisiting the chapter for the first time in months--or even years--I think it's time I actually put out a more comprehensive, thought-out post regarding my feelings on the chapter as a whole.

If you know me at all, you'll be aware that I greatly prefer Chapter 1 over Chapter 2. I always praise Chapter 1 whenever I can and sometimes might bash Chapter 2 as being the lesser of the two. And today we will see if my opinion on it has improved, stayed the same, or gotten worse.

I'll be going over the bad things first to get the negativity out of the way, move on to the good stuff, and finally end with the points I don't have strong opinions on. Please keep in mind that this is all my own opinion, and you are free to have a different one. Without further ado, here we go!

Part 1: The Bad

Queen. I've admittedly never been a major fan of Queen and never understood the hype around her. And unfortunately, a couple of the problems I always had with her have only become more accentuated and pronounced in my recent playthrough. I still find her voice annoying as always, arguably even more so. And she still does appear a bit too often for my taste. However, these are the only major issues I have with Queen as a character. I find nothing else about her inherently negative or frustrating, and I'll get into the good aspects of Queen later.

Noelle. This is going to make some of you upset I'm sure, but I still don't really like Noelle. I never did, and it's unlikely I ever will. She shares the same issue Queen does: she appears too often in the chapter. I understand that as more chapters are released, more characters will be introduced and take center stage, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, Noelle being one of those characters was, and still is, not my cup of tea. There are some things I do like about Noelle too, and I'll also get into that later.

The general tone of the chapter. One thing I really liked in Chapter 1 was how it felt a lot more serious in its tone. Yes, there were silly moments--need I bring up Lancer?--but there was always this sense of unease I felt. Of something threatening awaiting me. Chapter 1 knew what it wanted to accomplish in its tone from the get-go and did an excellent job at building suspense little by little. But with Chapter 2, I never really felt that. Everything felt silly all the way through, and the actual villain wasn't threatening until the very end. That moment when Queen controlled Berdly came out of nowhere and nothing built up to her battle. Everything just felt messier, like the chapter itself didn't know what it was doing. Yes, there was a plot, but the tone was having an identity crisis.

Part 2: The Good

Queen, again. There are some aspects I do like about Queen. As messy as it felt, her controlling Berdly was a decent surprise and had me thinking things were finally going to get intense. I also like Queen's bond with Noelle and how she genuinely wants to protect her, even if Noelle doesn't see it that way. It gives Queen some depth, and that's always nice to see.

Noelle, again. There are also a few things I like about Noelle. I think her overall personality is pretty good, and her background and history with other characters is very intriguing to me. I also appreciate how she befriends Susie by the end. It's always nice seeing Susie connect with more people.

Berdly. In the past I've mentioned how I always appreciated Berdly for who he was as a character, but never paid much mind to him. But after playing Chapter 2 for the first time in forever, I am pleased to announce that I like him a lot more now! Berdly was a major saving grace in the chapter for me. Berdly felt a lot like the Lancer of Chapter 2 in terms of comedy and general charm, and I found myself laughing at his lines quite a lot. His personality, while definitely needing a bit of personal improvement, is very unique and helps create some hilarious scenes. His design is very nice too, and I think he's a great addition to the game and its continual story.

Spamton. For a long time, I felt the same opinion with Spamton as I did with some other characters: too many people like him, therefore he must be overrated. As time went on, my opinion on Spamton slowly started to change and improve. And after my playthrough, I absolutely understand the hype. Spamton is honestly one of the most unique characters Toby Fox has ever created. Everything about him is great, from both his regular and NEO designs to his voice/dialogue to his backstory and everything in between. You genuinely feel bad for him, but know he needs to be stopped. Everything just fits so well, and I'm very glad I gave Spamton a second chance. I'll probably always like Jevil more--speaking of which, Jevil and Spamton lore must be given at somepoint--but I'll always have a soft spot for good ol' Spamton.

Chapter 1 characters. Even though Chapter 2 is primarily consisted of new characters, Darkners from Chapter 1 still show up at the beginning. I will admit I was very bummed out when both Lancer and Rouxls Kaard turned into stone, but I was able to find other things to enjoy about the chapter. As more chapters release, it'll be more difficult for Toby Fox to fit in characters from all chapters, though knowing him, I'm sure he'll be able to find a decent balance.

Part 3: The Indifferent

The theme. I've always been a fan of sci-fi and futuristic themes, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Chapter 2 was this exact theme. It felt strange, considering this genre/theme isn't something Toby Fox is known for, but I still think it was decent. However, I don't think it's great. I personally believe Chapter 1 had better world-building and overall design. This isn't to say Chapter 2 is worse by any means. It just doesn't resonate as strongly for me as Chapter 1's fantastical, card-centric theme did.

The length. I know this is going to sound odd, but I think Chapter 2 is a bit too long. I always thought longer was better, but after playing Chapter 2 again, I realize that's not always the case. Yes, we get more world-building and character dynamics, but the plot suffers. Take Chapter 1 as an example. Yes, it's shorter than Chapter 2, but character dynamics, world-building, and a cohesive, appropriately-lengthened plot were all given in the perfect amount. With Chapter 2, so much time is spent wandering around and solving puzzles while not moving anywhere plot-wise. I was initially going to put this point in the negatives section, but decided against it as there are some positives to a longer chapter. I just think it could have been handled better.

Queen, yet again. There is one aspect of Queen I wanted to put here, and that is her status as a villain. For a long time I always condemned Queen for being a weak villain, and I still feel that way to a degree. However, I do realize that villains can come in multiple forms. You have your seemingly purely villainous foe in the form of Spade King, though I personally believe he'll become an understandable villain by the end and get a redemption arc. But not all villains necessarily need to be one-dimensional. I think adding different types of villains is good, even if it's not something I personally enjoy. Because of this, I think Queen's status as a villain is all right. Not too great, and also not something I care for too much, but certainly has its own place and charm for some.

Well, that's it! These are all the major things I wanted to go over and cover in my review. I'm sure there are more minor things I could add, but I really wanted to focus on the stronger, more important things. I'm sure some of this is relatively controversial, but I'm used to that by now :P. Now, for the reveal on whether or not I like Chapter 2 more, less, or if my opinion has stayed the same. Drumroll, please...

YES! I do like Chapter 2 more than I used to. It's not by a major amount--I still think Chapter 1 is superior in multiple ways--but Chapter 2 is NOT as bad as I initially thought. Congratulations Chapter 2, you earn a medal :).

Deltarune 3rd mouse puzzle analysis

I think the 3rd/last mouse puzzle in Deltarune chapter 2 is an underrated moment for Berdly character progression. Whenever I see people talk about Berdly and what made them see him in a more positive light it’s usually the same two moments. The snowgrave route where he puts his ego aside to save his friend and in queens palace where he explains his backstory to Kris and Susie. These two moments are excellent but I personally think the mouse puzzle also does a great job at showing who he is as a person and his relationship with Kris and Noelle, especially since this is way before he gets rid of his ego. 

Let’s start off by analyzing the first few lines he says during the mouse puzzle.

Berdly claims about Noelle being powerless and needing help could be seen as a selfish mindset, a way to put her down while boosting his ego, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.  

Noelle is not a confidant person she gets behind Kris when you’re crossing the road, she pauses a lot when talking to people, Noelle can’t progress past the first mouse puzzle unless you complete it for her, in combat she turns her head around in fear if you make her fight someone and if you make her act by turning her into a doctor she trips and fall on her face. However she isn’t completely powerless either, at least to the point of helplessness.

On the first mouse puzzle if you press the switch again Noelle will give you advice on how to complete it.

On the second mouse puzzle she comes up with the solution to it and asks Kris what they think. 

While she lacks the confidence to say what she really means she makes up for it in her wits and Berdly knows this.

In the second Berdly battle if you chose act smart for Noelle.

In the spamton sweepstakes Berdly would complement Noelle for her idea.

Berdly assessment is not at all unfounded and it shows that he is not one to lie about other people to boost his ego. He uses Noelle's shortcomings to make decisions on her behalf for her emotional well being even if it's the wrong thing to do. He wants to be the best at anything and everything not just for himself but also for Noelles sake.

The entire reason he stopped Noelle from having Kris join their group project was because he thought that Kris would get in the way of Noelle. 

However I personally think these next few lines show who Berdly really is.

This. THIS RIGHT HERE is why I think this moment is underrated. It says so much about Berdly and his relationship with Kris and Noelle. Berdly opening up to Kris shows that he is comfortable around them to be a bit vulnerable, Noelle reaction to the things Berdly says showing that she cares enough to listen to him and how much of what he says mean to her.

And finally how Kris potentially knew that he wasn’t that bad of a person since the beginning. Of course they find him annoying at times but past his pride and ego is someone who genuinely cares about his friend and Kris knows this. 

Why else would they actively pursue him so they can play with him?

If Kris had access to Noelles blog then they definitely saw when Berdly admits they got help from them.

Berdly is far from perfect. He’s an incredibly standoffish asshole and his biggest flaws are best said by the two people he values the most. Queen and Noelle.

This dialogue happens if Noelle doesn't take damage during the second fight with Berdly.

But he is not a bad person and this mouse puzzle only proves it ten fold. And I wish more people would talk about this moment when they bring up what made Berdly more likable.

How old was Dess when she disapeared?

The earliest example of Dess not being around is during the Spelling Bee Berdly won. When they have to spell December, Noelle freezes up and loses. We can confidently assume Dess was missing at that time therefore. Referencing Scripps National Spelling Bee (as Toby Fox is American) December is listed under challenging third grade words, so Noelle and Berdly are about 8-9 during this scene. During the events of Chapter 1 Berdly is shown working at the Librarby and at the end of Chapter 2 pancis that he's going to be late with his shift with Ms Boom using this we can assume Berdly is probably about 16 during Deltarune. You can get a job at 14 but a lot of work places have issues with 14 year olds and you’d traditionally get a job at 16 so I consider it unlikely but possible. In addition Toriel mentions the possibility of Kris going to college soon, 16 would fit that but not 14.

Asriel is currently attending his first year of college which can be inferred by Toriel's phrasing that his current planned return is his first since leaving. The minimum age of college would be 18 (unless he skipped years) so he'd be about 18-19 unless he took a skip year which would be 19-20. Dess is implied to be the same age as Asriel. So if Kris and co is about 16 and Asriel is about 18-20 that puts 2-4 years between them. Which means Dess would have been 10-13 when she disappeared (or atleast the time of the spelling bee). She’d also be missing for about 5-10 years.

STUFF IS HAPPENING!!!! Wowowow so much stuffs its crazy how much stuffs is… I don’t… it’s… uhm, happening?!! I thought I should clear some shits up. Ok so basically I’m working on four simultaneous projects somehow!!! Two AUs (“Mystery Delta Dungeon” and Deltaswap Inspired “Delta Scene Change” title STILL pending) and the fourth and fifth iteration in my kind of Deltarune… Krerdly… series?? Idk what to call it but just know that that’s happening! The two new mainline fics don’t overlap too-too much which means working on both sort of at the same time is pretty stress free in the continuation department. Soo those are going smoothly (even if they’re still both kinda in the draft phase) and I’m really happy with the vibes there!! I actually decided to implement the fourth in the middle of the fifth so it’s more of a compliment to the series than anything but I definitely think it’s needed and a super welcome addition in my opini-onion. *~^* ~

The order I’m aiming to release my projs is Delta Dungeon 1st -> Delta Scene Change 2nd -> Pieromancer 3rd -> Boons and Banes of Love 4th! I think THINK (think) that Delta Dungeon could be finished by this year if I do a good job ;^> but don’t count on it because deadlines were my downfall for my last upload “Cosmetic Heart Container”. ònó I made the setting a friggin mall and pulled that “big fish small pond” shit at a MALL like omg there was so much… potential and I frew it all up but WHATEVER I’m proud of the buildup!! Just wish I didn’t have to spoil my own fun with deadlines (fuck deadlines)… maybe I’ll rewrite a sort of continuation for that fic and double it’s size when everything else is said and done?? I’ll see!!!! It definitely deserves justice!!

Speaking of aftermaths: I’ve been rolling the idea of a Catti-focused fic in my brain for a bit now. Don’t know about the nitty gritty details but after everything I think it could be fun to promote “major side character” to “main character” and see what happens. Don’t want to pull a Spamton NEO and drop dead after I sever my last string from Deltarune lol (ouch @o@) (won’t happen anytime soon @v@‘).

Berdly HATES jellybeans because they’re awful and manipulative

For that last one I originally wrote down that Berdly really liked jellybeans because they just seemed to fit his palette in my mind until I ate one that made me wanna puke and decided it wasn’t meant to be.

Also also idk where to put this but there’s this one scene in Broken Age after Vella escapes the sacrifice ceremony where she’s standing on the back of a giant blue bird flying through the sky in her ripped dress and a knife in her mouth and I’ve never wanted Kris to take the place of another character so badly before… (Berdly makes a fun Shay replacement also but the big blue bird is clearly the hanging fruit here)

I recently responded to a Tumblr poll about the ages of the Deltarune characters, ranging from 13-17. The specific options are 13-14, 14-15, 15-16, 16-17. 15-16 is the most popular option by a notable amount.

Personally, 16-17 is what I prefer since I want the characters to tackle more mature themes, almost like a coming-of-age story in a way.

I like the diverse perspectives people have but not the policing of it, myself. A part of me hopes that Toby Fox keeps the ambiguity there so they can connect with a larger audience.

You’ve said on stream that you believe the main Deltarune characters are teens, but do you have a specific range that you believe they are? If so, what lore elements point you to that conclusion?

I think Toby is pretty good about keeping certain things ambiguous! Especially when it comes to storytelling, there's certain aspects you want to focus on more than others, and some specific details are either not that important, or can distract from bigger themes.

That said, I've previously said that I think the characters are between 15-17, and the sweet spot for that would be 16. If Asriel is in some of his first years of college, that would put him between 18-20, and I think that Kris is about 2-3 years younger than him.

I think there's plenty of in-game evidence to support them being 16 or somewhere around that...Toriel mentions that Kris will also be heading to college soon, so that would put them on the latter end of high school. Berdly does volunteering at the librarby and Catti has an after-school job at the diner, which are the sort of things that typically older teens do. And in general, 16 is kind of that "sweet spot" age for teens...that crux where the change from kid to adult starts to become most apparent. That fits with one of Deltarune's biggest themes being of identity and control, since growing into your identity is such an important part of that age.

Can you show some of your swaprune au canons?

[Chap 1]

-Berdly and Noelle stumble across the dark world via the library, however the area they go into is not Cyberworld as the dark world portal they entered is tied to the books there (Alice in wonderland being one of them).

-The cyberworld they would come across later is tied to the school's computer lab.

-Lancer gives the duo a shitty and inaccurate retelling of the prophecy that Ralsei constantly tries to correct, but is always interrupted by either other characters or circumstances.

-Seam overthrew the Spade king for trying to imprison Jevil for "Looking like he'd turn evil." He did not in fact, turn evil, but he's not the best royal advisor due to just not being cut out for the job. He's still a fantastic jester though.

-Ralsei's more of the actual royal advisor even though his actual title is royal chef/baker.

-After being overthrown, Spade king makes a living selling random junk he and Lancer find together. He hides the fact he used to be the king.

-Roulx Kaard, the former royal advisor under Spade's rule, "mysteriously disappeared" after Seam took the crown. If Berdly shows him a jar of worms, Spade will warn him, Noelle, and Lancer about Roulx. "I was right that one member of my court would be corrupted by the Knight, I was wrong about which one, I'm just glad I managed to get it under control before things got out of hand..."

-Roulx Kaard drops a Rapier of Guidance (+5AT +5 Magic lets you take an extra turn if Kris uses their first turn to CHECK an enemy) when defeated via violence and a Rule Kard (+3AT +3DEF +3 Magic) when defeated via sparing him.

[Chap 2]

-Swatch, the ruler of the cyberworld, has taken a liking to Susie's violent nature and wishes to take her under his wing to 'refine it from senseless violence into properly conducted violence'. She on the other hand thinks he's boring and wants nothing to do with his mentorship.

-Kris on the other hand, Swatch doesn't know what to make of them.

-While exploring the cyberworld and getting separated from Lancer and Noelle, Berdly meets up with Susie and the two have to solve puzzles together to progress (which Susie dislikes, but at least she appreciates that solving them is faster with Berdly, being controlled by the player.)

-Also while alone, Berdly comes across 'TM'; this weird kitten-like creature that looks like one of the tasqs, but is nowhere near as tall or as stable as them...

-After fighting her, she insists that he comes to the cat cafe in the scrapyard, and that he comes alone....

-From there, the NEO Tasque Manager sidequest begins.

-In the Mansion, Spamton and the Addisons are living it up as the mansion's butlers/guards.

-Queen wasn't overthrown, she just put Swatch in charge to run a really fancy Acid bar.

-Tasque Manager drops a Shocking Whip (+10AT -5 DEF turns all healing spells into electrical attacks) when defeated via violence and an Order Masq (+5 DEF +5 Magic, doubles damage done to chaotic enemies) when defeated via sparing her.

For the Character Bingo, let's go with... Berdly from Deltarune, Basil from HM64, and Jeff from FoMT!

Thank you so much for your patience on this! I'll break this ask into three parts and answer them today!

Let's start with the elite gamer, Berdly!

There was a long gap between the releases of Chapters 1 and 2 of Deltarune, and during that time, it gave me many opportunities to see a lot of unlikable qualities Berdly possessed despite his short appearances. Arrogant, talking over his own friend, treating Kris with disdain and contempt all made him a very easy character to hate. Perhaps the best thing about him were the ridiculous faces that he made - he was a caricature and it was easy to see him as a very flat character, because that was what he was with the information we had.

Now, enter Chapter 2, and we see many sides of Berdly. I know there are plenty of fans that are going to hate him regardless, but he does show that there is more to him than simply stroking his ego. As proud as he is, he does better in a group than when he tries to take things on his own. We can see how desperate he is for approval based on the way he will do anything to appease Queen despite her blatant dislike of him.

There are a couple of different routes you can take in this chapter, but I'll focus on the normal one first. The part where Berdly talks about his childhood and his friendship with Noelle gave him the humanity that I had been dying to see. Being labeled as "gifted", "talented", or "smart" when you are very young is a very heavy burden. The fear of letting other people down and not living up to expectations is very relatable. The fears of not "keeping up" and "losing your touch" are very real and can make life a nightmare.

His ego is such a driving force because that is all he feels he has. He isn't even sure if he deserves Noelle's friendship. He knows that Noelle is talented, and he feels that she was the one who should have gained all of the praise that he got. He's so scared of losing her, but at the same time, he's terrified he doesn't have her in the first place.

I feel like Toby did an awesome job during the flashback cutscene with simple silhouettes that showed a lot of emotion. We are able to see that Berdly does care deeply for his friend Noelle, but his fear of letting everyone down (and again, that ego boost as well) are often his driving forces.

When Berdly's pride is broken, we also see him admit that his way is not always the best way. When he gets encouragement from the party, he is excited to help however he can.

We see Berdly take that ego and cast it aside in the "Weird Route" aka "Snowgrave Route".

He is genuinely terrified of the situation, as I would think most people would be. His main goal is to make sure that Noelle is safe above everything else, even if that means taking to arms. We see more genuine expressions on his face, we hear honest words. He cares deeply for Noelle and is willing to put her safety above Kris's and his own.

I know I could have dove even deeper on this, as I really love this game and Berdly has grown on me so much. I am on pins and needles waiting to see what is in store for him in the next chapter!
