Blog Post 7
Before writing the list poem I revisited pages 199-201 quite a lot to reread the poetry examples. I found the list poems to be so interesting and fun! I enjoyed how the titles functioned for most of the examples I read as a gateway or description for the poem.
So for my prewriting this time I really focused on enjoying the examples and rereading the workshop 3 requirements.
For the drafting I went through a few ideas of what I wanted to write about first. The initial idea I had was to write about my career in education, but then that idea changed into me wanting to write about one of the jobs I enjoy the most, being a mom. I started my thinking about the characteristics and then added details about the joys and qualities.
I am still getting better with revising and editing my poems. I think that what has been helpful for me is asking myself about what the reader would take away. Once I asked myself that I did add a lasting line to my poem for clarity purposes.

We chose to focus on the corner between Hamilton and Chase. We were particularly interested in this intersection because there was a great mixture of commercial and residential properties. However, there is a tremendous amount of space on Hamilton Avenue going towards on-street parking. All the while there is a pretty large amount of unused space in Northside as a neighborhood. We also noticed a pretty large amount of pedestrian foot traffic around this intersection and had the idea of transforming this section of Hamilton from a two lane street, to a one lane street with bike lanes on either side as well as a shared turning lane in the middle. While it may not immediately be popular, we believe that Northside has the space to develop more creative parking opportunities off of Hamilton Avenue rather than on it. Allowing street-parking sacrifices the neighborhood's overall walk-ability and decreases the FAR.
Something we immediately noticed about Northside is that it is one of the few neighborhoods in the city that could make life without an automobile a feasible option for working professionals given the central bus station as well as the good use of mixed land development. Still, the on-street parking on Hamilton encourages a dependence on cars despite the high traffic amount of busses that use the street. Parked cars were also posing a serious threat to the feasibility of busses being able to safely and efficiently navigate the neighborhood. And the last reason to eliminate the parking lane is to encourage better bike infrastructure as cyclists in Northside currently have to decide between sharing the road with cars or sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. This is the least effective strategy to encourage cycling, which should be the priority for the city as it can promote better health, air quality, and is the most efficient mode of transportation.

On a more serious note I actually feel so bad for younger Tommy bc he’s out and proud now but we all saw how they treated queer people at the 118 before our team got there, and how he must’ve experienced hate all throughout the Academy, and maybe at other firehouses too and god the actual army, and idk it’s easier now for me to see why he acted the way he did in the earlier episodes and how he must’ve felt pressured and weird and alone and how I just know he looks up to Hen so much and im a mess rn

Need a “Hey handsome” “Hi cutie” exchange between Tommy and Buck in season 8 so bad, man. I need Buck watching Tommy and Maddie bond from a distance and then awkwardly interrupting because he thinks they’re discussing him. They say they weren’t. They were. I need a lot of dry wit/humor from Tommy that most people wouldn’t get but Buck absolutely adores. Buck finds one of Tommy’s hoodies/sweaters left behind in his loft and just claims it. Tommy notices him wearing it once and just smiles to himself. I want Buck wrapping Tommy up in one of the 118’s bizarre hijinks and him just rolling with it. I need them visiting each other’s work places. Buck dropping off containers full of Tommy’s favorite meals. I want Tommy getting into the most mind boggling logic defying completely batsh*t crazy accident known to man and have Buck completely spiral for an entire episode. Only for Tommy to survive and the emotional and psychological trauma binds them together forever because that’s how life works 🫶🏾❤️
