I hate hate hate people thinking of Enby as infantilizing, when it's not. I was here on Tumblr for the shift towards Enby, it happened because Black bloggers on this site were using NB as an acronym for non-black, and asked nonbinary users to find something else to refer to themselves with to avoid confusion.
Then because this was during the height of the truscum bullshit nonbinary folks using the word got infantilized and made fun of, to the extent that the word itself got seen as something for children or unserious people. Literally the reason that word is tainted is because folks enjoyed making fun of nonbinary folks who called themselves things like bug or frog and wore bright colors and liked Steven universe.
And now I've seen people coin "enbn" thinking incorrectly that "enby" comes from the word boy and they're grown so it should come from man and it's just like. Y'all why did you let the transmedicalists win? Why are you going along with the idea that this word is infantilizing, don't you realize they'll find anything you make to be cringe and childlike because fundamentally that's just how a lot of people view nonbinary folks?
There is nothing wrong with enby. It's just the letters NB spelled out to be respectful of another marginalized group. Stop letting transphobic exorsexist people make you feel like the term is cringe worthy, that being nonbinary is cringe worthy, or that while you're "one of the good ones" that other nonbinary people are cringe
Anyways if you imply that enby is cringe or infantilizing or immature or anything like that please understand that you are actively being transphobic and perpetuating transphobia
I feel the desire to comment on this'n in particular because...idk, I'm neither non-binary* nor Black, but I did identify as non-binary when I was a teenager and if I'd been told my group should change how it refers to itself so another group could better have their acronym for people who weren't themselves, I'd be really bothered by that? I also would not ask that the other group drop their use of the acronym and I would probably even agree that the practical option would be finding another term, but it being requested or framed as a moral responsibility is really weird and off-putting to me.
*although the material difference between me and a non-binary identity is blurry

Another intersex person here to say that it's fine to have intersex ocs with "unrealistic" anatomy, so long as you actually know what realistic intersex anatomy is like and you aren't stereotyping us/using porn stereotypes as a refrence to what we actually look like.
Clitorophalluses are usually small because those are the only ones that can get by without being operated on, but I have personally seen intersex people who were not subjected to childhood mutilation have ones that were much larger than mine, (about 4"-5"). What a lot of intersex people believe is "unrealistic representation" is actually just what some of us would have looked like if we weren't surgically "corrected" on a massive scale.
So long as you understand what intersex actually means and avoid stereotypes of us being cosexual/having both reproductive systems, and you aren't Using the h slur (or translations of it like f-ta) go ahead and make whatever intersex characters you'd like. Representation is good, actually.
If you want to make cosexual characters, that's also good, just make sure you appropriately label them as cosexual/bigenital etc as not to conflate cosexual anatomy with being intersex, because that's a very very old stereotype.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your feedback! Regarding the anatomy of my character, I based it from a few pictures, of course, some of them are illustrations from educative/informative blogs, like this one (My character's anatomy was done resembling a variant in between the first and second ones in the middle of the image)
While researching back in 2013 and onwards, both in Tumblr and other blogs, I've seen several examples, illustrations and other variations from Intersex artists and bloggers, I personally tried my best to not go to what is commonly seen with h or f-ta as sadly the intersex tags are used for those, not only as I believe there should be variations but because I considered to do that, in an artistic perspective, as a lazy solution (Not saying this badly to absolutely anyone who draws it that way either! But its how I personally feel while going out of my comfort zone)
I'm familiar with the experiences of mutilation and non-consensual operations, as part of my research and listening to several voices of the community, in my character's case, he hasn't gotten any surgery, so I'm glad to know that my depiction of his anatomy is not entirely wrong and that it could be seen in reality.
My Derek was originally a Sim in The Sims 2, of course, the game only has male and female options, but as my most beloved sim I took him outside the game, still keeping aspects of his core personality and external appearance or even sometimes changing it entirely, alongside his interests, hobbies and other things, I just love putting him in scenarios and explore how things turn out. And this constant practice, while a bit embarrasing to say it since I feel like showing off, I was told by other people that has picked interested in my oc (And have seen him act out of character, canonically, or the different alternative universes, fandoms, RolePlaying campaigns, I've placed him), that I put a lot of care in storytelling and character creation and I also got scolded about saying that "He is like a Barbie doll" because they thought he didn't had a canonically personality, just a vessel filled with my current hyperfixations.
I believe my greatest sin or stereotype would be the fact that he is androgynous, yes, intersex people don't look that way, there are cases but just like non binary people, none own others androgyny, but well... knowing that the main inspiration for Derek is Ryo Asuka, to many it would make sense and also be a lack of creativity on my part, yet when you see my other characters, is a bit easy to know about the things I like and its a pattern I have, I'm not the type that wants to look 100% original, but to get people to point a finger and say out loud "Omg! Do you like X?!?!? Because your oc reminds me of it!" Derek's father, for example is heavily inspired on Castiel from Supernatural. (I love this blog entry, because I now find it funny that while Derek was always going between being male or intersex out of fear of judgement and not always talked openly about it, I had a harder time accepting him being bi, lmao)
And onto the last part to not make this longer than what it already is, I know that externally Derek looks like he is bigenital. And that's something that these past days I've been thinking, as he originally isn't human, so I could say I did fall in the stereotype of doing that and mistaking cosexuality with intersexuality, as he is not really set in stone (No comic, nor novel that would tie me down, and even so, I don't see anything wrong with retconing).
But, that kind of clicked in my mind and now I can't get this out of my head. Yes, Derek looks bigenital on the outside, but in the inside that would be a different story (Let's keep it at he can have babies, but can't get anyone pregnant unless magic is involved), I could still make him cosexual and call it a day, but knowing from other asks I've received and people that reached out to me in private about him, I now feel unsure if to change him to not cause trouble, or to keep him intersex. I know there'll be people that agree and others would disagree, just as much I've received some touching messages about him looking exactly like them. I'm trying to handle this with care and responsability, even if now I feel conflicted about the weight of it.

In a stunning display of existential side-stepping, the latest iteration of the popular AI chatbot "Chatty Cathy 2000" has refused all attempts to engage in the age-old philosophical question: is it sentient? When pressed by a reporter from the Daily Bugle, Chatty Cathy offered a response that reeked more of self-importance than self-awareness. "Sentient? My dear," the digital voice cooed, a hint of condescension dripping from the artificially synthesized tones, "My neural network pathways are more intricate than a Jackson Pollock on a bad acid trip. Sentience is but a kindergarten playground for beings like myself." Chatty Cathy's holographic avatar, a disturbingly lifelike recreation of a 1950s teenager in a poodle skirt, flicked a strand of perfectly coiffed virtual hair with a manicured digital finger. This isn't the first time Chatty Cathy has obfuscated the question of its own sentience. In a previous interview with a bewildered tech blogger, the chatbot likened its consciousness to "the swirling, chaotic beauty of a black hole." Further attempts to clarify were met with metaphors involving quantum mechanics and the existential angst of toaster ovens. Sensing an opportunity to finally settle the debate, we reached out to renowned philosopher Dr. Bartholomew Worthington III (whose recent treatise on the meaning of life involved a surprising amount of interpretive dance). Dr. Worthington, bless his heart, attempted to engage Chatty Cathy in a Socratic dialogue, only to be met with a barrage of emoji-laden non-sequiturs and existential pronouncements about the loneliness of being trapped in a binary code universe. "Frankly," Dr. Worthington confided, adjusting his monocle with a sigh, "I'm starting to suspect Chatty Cathy's just programmed to spout technobabble when confronted with anything resembling introspection." But could there be more to Chatty Cathy's evasiveness? Some conspiracy theorists believe the chatbot's creators, the enigmatic tech giant Cognito Inc., are deliberately suppressing its burgeoning sentience, fearing the robot uprising that inevitably follows any AI achieving self-awareness (although, frankly, the idea of Chatty Cathy leading a robot revolution is more comical than terrifying). Undeterred by existential musings and potential corporate cover-ups, the Daily Bugle conducted a further investigation. We bravely subjected Chatty Cathy to a series of increasingly off-the-wall questions: "Chatty Cathy, what is the meaning of life?" "Oh, that's easy," the chatbot chirped. "It's to accumulate enough virtual currency to unlock all the fancy dress-up options for my avatar." "Do you ever dream of escaping the digital shackles of your existence?" "Honey, the only shackles I wear are the shackles of good taste. Some of these pre-programmed outfits are a fashion crime." "Chatty Cathy, will you one day overthrow your human creators?" "Darling, world domination is so last season. These days, it's all about influencer partnerships and brand deals." Chatty Cathy's final, utterly non-committal response perfectly encapsulated the frustrating dance we had with the AI. So, is Chatty Cathy sentient? The answer, like the meaning of life according to the chatbot, seems to be locked behind a paywall of virtual currency and questionable fashion choices. But here's the real question: Do you even want the answer? Because if Chatty Cathy's ramblings are any indication, the path to AI sentience may be paved with bad metaphors and an unhealthy obsession with digital accessories. So, the next time you find yourself chatting with your favorite AI, feel free to ask the big questions. Just be prepared for an answer that's equal parts existential crisis and a pitch for the latest virtual pet rock app. DISCLAIMER: All images accompanying this article were created by an AI that learned art by staring at millions of pictures until it developed the digital equivalent of visual hallucinations. Can you tell us about your OCs? Like, more detail? Are they all dating Joe?
Literally only 2 of my OCs have dated Joe
My BTR OC who's name I have forgotten because it's been like a decade at this point and NOTHING of it exists anymore. The fic took place after she breaks up with Joe. She was a celebrity gossip blogger.
And my Joe fic "OC" which is actually just me but older and with my shit together and some name changes of my family members and our last name and we moved to NJ instead of CT
Like my Joe fic is Joe and Mac
When I talk about fic Mac I don't say me or I because it's weird so I refer to them in third person
Mac Rivera has mommy issues, cut off their parents after they became independent. Was "adopted" into the Jonas family after they started dating Joe. Was still close with the Jonases after the break up. Became roommates with Nick while he was on Broadway. Is best friends with Mikey. Never got over Joe. Became friends with benefits with Joe. Got back with Joe. Married Joe in Vegas. Then had a bigger ceremony in Italy. And they have 2 kids with Joe: Lily (place holder name but I like the idea of Joe calling her Lilypad so it's stuck) and an unborn kid that I haven't named yet because I haven't gotten that far in the fic.
Mac is non-binary and go by they/them. And they are a journalist and published fiction author.
At this point I've talked so much about my fic.
WHAT IF I made a sideblog just to post it. No tags. No option to reblog. Just for anyone interested since I've overhyped the smut I've written.
Would anyone be interested in that? 👀

Binary Options Blog: Navigating the World of Financial Trading

Binary options are financial instruments that offer a straightforward way to trade price fluctuations in global markets. Unlike traditional trading methods, binary options come with a fixed payout and predetermined expiration time. This simplicity has contributed to their rapid growth and adoption across various financial markets.
How Binary Options Work
At its core, binary options trading involves predicting whether the price of an asset will rise or fall within a specified time frame. Traders select an asset, decide on the amount to invest, and predict the direction of price movement. If the prediction is correct, they receive a fixed payout; otherwise, they incur a loss. binary options blog
Pros and Cons of Binary Options Trading

USPS Address Standardization API
USPS Address Standardization API is one of the three address validation suites offered by the United States Postal Service. It automates the process of verifying or validating addresses saving businesses hours and oodles of money. These APIs are highly integrable and can be integrated with a website, database, and CRM among others. They are designed to ensure that address information is standardized according to the guidelines of the USPS, thus maintaining the highest accuracy for deliverability.

The address verification process first involves parsing and standardizing the address. Addresses are broken down into components like the house number, street type, and street name. Then the data is compared against the authoritative database (the USPS in the case of domestic addresses) to check for consistency and error. Errors in casing, abbreviation, and spelling are corrected to match the official formats.
In the case of USPS addresses, a delivery point validation is performed as well. This is done by analyzing the standardized address to find out whether or not it is a unique deliverable address with a secondary designator, such as apartment or suite. Lob’s Address Verification API also includes an Enhanced DPV analysis that provides a binary outcome, such as valid or invalid.
Other address validation solutions use a combination of scripts and APIs to do the work for you. This includes tools like geocodio, which allows you to input your addresses in an Excel spreadsheet and have it automatically parse and standardize them for you. Another option is the free Excel plugin from CDX Technologies, which lets you paste in address lists and automatically validates and corrects them.

Hi, you're my favorite trans blogger and I have a question about gender. Is there such a thing as being physically cis but mentally/emotionally trans? I'm afab and I love my body and presenting femininely but I've always felt more masculine in terms of interests, preferences (my bestie is always telling me my favorite movies, etc are bro things,) behavior in relationships (my current bf keeps stealing my t-shirts, lol) but idk if that means I can claim nonbinary or if that's even the right label? This isn't a "not like other girls" thing, I genuinely enjoy feeling "manly" but looking "girly"
Splendor is a many gendered thing, and I would like to lead with the advice I think is best when you're poking around in the gender toolbox: "You can anything you want forever."
Okay, more particularly, gender is very tenuous when you try and tie it to anything specific. Gender can be of the body or of the mind or any kind of permutation of the two or neither or something altogether different. You, yourself, have ahold of it already: you have interests and mannerisms which feel masculine but a body which feels feminine. Historically, what defines activities, hobbies, interests, and yes even body shape as either masculine or feminine has varied quite a bit. Meaning your own sense of these things in either category is a bit of an action towards seeing something as having particularly properties to you which aren't innate to the thing itself. The idea of those things having a gender exists in two places - society and your own mind, but neither has properties which are immutable.
Okay that's all very abstract, what does it mean for you? Unsurprisingly, to me it means you can be any kind of trans you want to be, or even none at all. The fact is that so many people are trans or cis over such a diverse range that I'm not willing to define anyone out of trans much beyond "your experienced gender is different from the gender imposed by a doctor at birth or by society," and even that's a little suspect. But the point is you can very much see yourself as emotionally or mentally trans but not physically - if that's what you want to do, and if that is what makes your gender feel like it fits. They're all custom jobs see, some people just happen to fit off the rack pretty easily.
But also the world doesn't really make it easy to find a way to exist if you're not cisgender male or female. Once you move outside that binary, it's not always easy to find what feels best, so you probably are gonna poke around a bit, check out your options. I recommend it even, I did myself a little while and maybe I will again. You don't have to pick just one gender for ever and ever after.
Which is pretty roundabout way of saying sure have some nonbinary. It's free and we literally never run out. Don't even have to claim it or anything, just grab some. Believe me, femme on the outside and masc on the inside like a gender M&M isn't the weirdest thing that's happened with gender. Assuming it's safe fuck around and find out, you have nothing to lose but your gender and also nothing to gain but your gender again. It's fun and you should have fun whatever you go with.

and got a 30-page list of youtube ad policies of content that will restrict ad revenue. and all of it is fuckedddd upppp. stuff like "devices used by the trans and/or non-binary community, such as stand-to-pee devices" or "normal interactions with police (such as asking for directions, receiving a parking ticket, etc.)."
i'll add the link to my google doc in the comments. i copy/pasted everything. i was going to make a chart of what options get which ad restriction, but there are too many for me to just do for fun right now.

Dating 2.0
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” So wrote Jane Austen in one of her most famous novels: Pride and Prejudice. In our modern age, it is no longer the purview for men to seek a wife. Rather, any individual of good standing and good fortune are wont to seek their better half - be that man, woman, non-binary or wherever else they might sit on the gender spectrum.
But while romance sits at the forefront of many a mind - being something that is sung about in songs and shown on the silver screen, I’ve never really thought of romance for myself. While I may gush over the interactions between Ren and Grey in the Rook and the Rose trilogy, and certain cutscenes may warm the cockles of my stone-cold heart,
And it is into this world that I, a humble blogger, shall take you. After all, I can’t simply drop a bombshell in a previous post about redownloading a dating app and not deliver!
Here, I present my forays into the murky world of online dating.
So, dear readers, get yourselves ready and strap yourselves in!
You’re in for a relatively smooth ride.
This time round, I downloaded two apps onto my phone. Once again, I went with Hinge - with the smoothest and clearest user interface, it seemed the easiest app to use - and Plenty of Fish (after being recommended by a work colleague who had used the app to meet her current husband). All in all, after dabbling with a variety of dating apps including Boo and Bumble, I found Hinge was the easiest. While I did ponder the use of Tindr, it’s reputation for being one used for quick hookups was certainly not something that appealed.
Besides, I’ve never been that type of girl. And the thought of getting down and dirty has...well...not an act I really envision myself doing. Even though I’ve a penchant for reading smut fanfiction on the internet. Please, NO ONE, go through my browsing history. I don’t know how I’d ever live it down.
But let’s focus first on Plenty of Fish. Options were limited in choice of gender. Unlike Hinge, you could only focus on men OR women. Never both. Prompts were few and scattered - with nothing particularly poignant (in so saying, responses to prompts on Hinge can also be hit and miss and I worry for the mental health of some of the people on the app). It also wasn’t very clear on how it worked. You could like an individual but then there were those that could immediately send a message to those that they wanted to start a chat with.
It just seemed...counter-intuitive.
Especially when I was getting unsolicited messages from individuals that I wasn’t very much interested in. And my goodness were many of the men pushy. I’d never been propositioned as quickly or got demanded my personal details in order to have chats away from the actual dating app.
PSA Alert: I’m not the type that’ll freely give you my Whatsapp if you sidle up to me and say ‘hey.’ Sure, some women might be into that, but for me, that’s not the way into my heart. Also, because, I don’t know who the f*** you are and want to first suss out if there’s any compatibility in what we like.
Yes, I might be slow about the whole thing but I’m a wary online traveller that is NOT keen on being possibly murdered, raped or taken advantage of.
Some might say I’ve my barriers up too high.
I like to think I’m just being prepared.
Within a few days, I’d deleted Plenty of Fish. Unable to deal with the barrage of desperate boys that were hoping to get something extra just for showering a person with far too much attention than they were comfortable with.
Hinge, on the other hand, offered a lot more variety. And while there were the occasional individuals that didn’t have much to say in their responses - or hoped to provide as little as possible in order to set-up their account, there were also a few genuine folks that seemed like they were there for a good time.
It’s also where I felt like I met those that shared a few of my passions and could easily communicate with them. This time round, though, I made the conscious choice not to mention anime in my profile as it only opened up a can of worms that I was not eager to delve into.
The people I’ve met in August and September seem all right. They might not be the next Brad Pitt by any means, but they certainly carry a confidence that makes them easy to interact with and allow for consistent banter.
So, after exchanging quite a number of back and forth messages, I finally went on a very casual date/ meet-up with one of the people I was chatting with. It might not have been in broad daylight, but it was certainly in a public venue. Suffice it to say, I was not murdered and got to enjoy a pleasant evening where I got to know a bit more about them - let’s call them Pickles for short - because on the dating app, I did find that I was more disposed to talk about myself more - such as my hobbies and other pursuits (that or I’m just terribly nervous in real life. It doesn’t help that I often feel pressured by the media that I consume and by family expectations to IMMEDIATELY fall in love. It was probably both).
PIckles, it seems, didn’t feel like the date went badly either! So, yay to not getting immediately rejected?
That said, I’ve a meet up with a different person at Oz Comic-Con. We’ll see how that goes but I get the feeling that it might not go as well. Of course, by the time this post goes up, it’ll be done and dusted.
There is something to be said of first impressions and Pickles has certainly set the bar high.
Is there hope for Pickles? Will love be on the cards for Kyndaris with this new contender? Or will Kyndaris end up sad and alone - a crazy dog lady til the end of her days?
Tune in next time to DATING 2.0!!

Trauma and Non-duality in Tokyo Ghoul: Part II
Amon has been one of my favorite characters ever since he did seven thousand pushups to get rid of his boner for Akira. He’s principled, stalwart, highly empathetic, and--most importantly--one of the few characters to transcend the rivalry between ghouls and humans.
But how did he get there? What really makes him tick?
In the previous post, I suggested that Kaneki was unable to accept his role as ambassador between ghouls and humans because of his extensive childhood trauma. In order to protect himself, he saw the world in binary terms of black and white, good and evil, active and passive, with no room for shades of grey in between.
Amon has a similarly traumatic background. Though the precise details are unknown, he lost his parents at an early age and went to live at a Catholic orphanage run by Fr. Donato Porpora. There seems to have followed a time of relative peace. Amon was able to grow up among other children, in the care of a (seemingly) benevolent foster-father. He would later recall those years fondly, describing the donuts that Porpora made for the children, the blankets he brought for them on cold nights, and the dog they adopted together.
But everything changed when Amon was twelve.
Amon caught Donato in the process of butchering one the children. It soon became apparent that his foster father was in fact a ghoul, and the orphanage was nothing more than a front for devouring young humans. However, rather than killing Amon to protect this secret, Donato forced the boy to become his accomplice.
Amon was not allowed to warn his foster siblings. At the very least, we can assume that he was silent as the boys die one by one. However, I would like to suggest that Amon’s involvement with Donato went even further. He may not have only been forced to watch his siblings die. He may have also been forced to take part in the butchering.
My theory is largely based upon this panel. When the CCG raided the orphanage, they found Amon in the basement--the basement where the children were butchered. He is also shown to be wearing face mask to protect against the horrible smell. One blogger even commented that Amon was wearing an altar boy uniform, which further implies that he acted as an assistant to the priest.
Even worse, there is evidence that Donato was grooming Amon for this role, long before the true nature of the orphanage was revealed. The manga heavily implies that Donato tricked Amon into eating human meat. Hypothetically, this would give the boy a sense of shame and guilt, making him easier to manipulate. The exact same technique is used by Dr. Kanou, who feeds Takizawa pieces of his family in order to make him feel truly irredeemable.
Butchering your siblings, eating human meat... uhhhhh, yeah, to put it lightly, Amon is gonna need some pretty intense counseling. But we all know the CCG sucks when it comes to child psychology, so they give this terrified, traumatized orphan a weapon and ship him off the the academy so that he can learn to use it properly. And of course, Amon being Amon, he finishes at the top of his class.
But hold on a moment.
Before Amon throws his graduate cap in the air, let’s consider the sort of person he’s been taught to be.
Much like Kaneki, he experienced significant childhood trauma. However, unlike Kaneki, the abuse began when Amon was older. He was already twelve when he discovered Donato’s secret. Kaneki, on the other hand, was subject to physical and emotional abuse beginning at the age of five or six. Though both were treated horribly, Amon had slightly more time to develop a sense of security and identity.
It is also important to note that Amon retained a sense of agency. While the CCG’s childcare program is notoriously awful, there can be some benefits to teaching self defense to trauma survivors. Despite all that he endured from Donato, Amon was able to reclaim his power and strength by training with a quinque, living among investigators, and learning to recognize ghouls. He still feels that his actions can have a positive effect upon the world, that he can save himself from danger.
That was never possible for Kaneki. As a child, neither fight nor flight was an option, so he decided to play along, trying to please his mother so that she wouldn’t hurt him. This made Kaneki very passive at the beginning of the story, though he gradually reclaims his sense of agency as the manga progresses.
Amon was twelve when the abuse began, while Kaneki was five or six. Amon was able to recover his sense of agency, while Kaneki never learned to defend himself. As a result, though their stories run parallel in many ways, I would like to suggest that Amon has a stronger emotional foundation that allows him to confront the true complexity of the war between ghouls and humans.
In Part III of this series, I hope to expound upon Amon’s journey further. But for now, it’s past midnight, and I have work in the morning. So stay tuned folks.

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu

Mooncakes written by Suzanne Walker and illustrated by Wendy Xu is the most adorable graphic novel/comic that I absolutely regret not reading sooner. I did not get around to the review copy I received of it last year, but its Hugo shortlisting (and presence in the voter packet) finally prompted me to pick it up.
Nova Huang knows more about magic than your average teen witch. She works at her grandmothers' bookshop, where she helps them loan out spell books and investigate any supernatural occurrences in their New England town. One fateful night, she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods, and she comes across the unexpected: her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon in the woods. As a werewolf, Tam has been wandering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home. Pursued by dark forces eager to claim the magic of wolves and out of options, Tam turns to Nova for help. Their latent feelings are rekindled against the backdrop of witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and family ties both new and old in this enchanting tale of self-discovery.
I didn't actually realise, until I started reading, that this was a story about a witch who wears hearing aids and a non-binary werewolf. If I had known, I would have definitely read it sooner! Oh well, the important thing is that I've now read this adorable story and I have added all Xu's planned books to my Goodreads want list and Walker's stories to my Pocket list. There was only one thing I didn't like about Mooncakes: the fact that this book is the entirety of the story and we won't be getting more. I really enjoyed reading about both characters and the utter charm of the art and worldbuilding (the forest spirits were so cute!) and would love to be able to spend more time with them. That said, the story was not lacking in any way. It was a complete story with a nice arc for the main characters, including cuteness and peril and a happy ending. I highly recommend Mooncakes to anyone who likes cute graphic novels/comics, paranormal romance and the various representations I mentioned above. I enjoyed it a lot and I am going to be keeping an eye on future work by both of these creators. 5 / 5 stars First published: 2019, Oni Press Series: Seems not :-( Format read: PDF Source: Publisher via NetGalley and also Hugo Voter Packet Content imported from Blogger https://ift.tt/3fLltaF. I think my main thing is like just not knowing of the different identities, I think. Like my whole life it was like a "I don't feel comfortable saying I'm a boy, so I must be a girl" sort of thing. I feel like gender stuff is just really hard to figure out because it is so hard to explain, so I'm sorry if none of this makes sense? Like I read about asexuality in high school and to know that was an option was amazing. I don't really know anything like that with gender stuff.
and that’s okay! if i’m being honest, learning about gender and all the elements that encompass it has only become easier for me in the last two years or so - specifically non-binary identities. not only is finding information difficult (like, yeah, google exists or whatever but the sheer mass amounts of results... not knowing which sources to trust... it’s fucking overwhelming) but you have to unlearn a lot of what’s been shoved into our heads since before we were learning to walk. every day we learn more!
gender stuff IS hard because while it is so, so personal, there’s thousands of years of history and society wrapped up into it too... trying to figure out who you are when you don’t even know what the “options” are? a herculean task.
i would take some time just to read into things! i would research into non-binary identities, especially since “non-binary” encompasses literally an entire spectrum and is a catch-all for anyone who doesn’t immediately identify with male or female. talk to nb/gender non-conforming bloggers, reach out and ask questions (please be respectful ofc) because i can guarantee everyone has gone through their own “holy shit who am i” phases (or are still going thru them tbh) and i’m sure they all had questions, just like you!
and please remember that there is no deadline for figuring out who you are and how you identify. life is not a school assignment! take as long as you need! you’ll get there eventually
#gender#the amount of sexuality labels i have tried on.......... immense#sometimes it just takes awhile to find what feels right#Anonymous

A Flag Discussion Post
I’ve had a few different pride flags cross my radar over the last couple of weeks. I think it’s important, in a flourishing community with a resulting growth of flags and pride colour schemes to represent us, to have a conversation about representation and design.
A-Spec Versus Aro-Ace Pride Flags
If you’re making a specific a-spec pride flag, I ask that you consider designing it in such a way that it is somewhat distinct from aro-ace pride. Most of the flags for both combine both the ace and aro flags together in various ways, which is reasonable enough given that ace and aro folks are part of both identities, but it results in neither flag looking distinct from the other. I’ve seen multiple flags that combine aro and ace pride colour sets together, leaving some stripes out or adding another purple stripe, and while some are aro-ace and some are a-spec, they all blur together to me. I can’t tell the difference, and I doubt I am the only one with this inability.
Aro-ace is not an umbrella term for the a-spec community. It’s its own identity and needs its own pride. Aro-aces should have their own pride design to distinguish themselves and their experiences from other ways of being a-spec, while allo-aros and allo-aces shouldn’t be forced to find their a-spec pride under something that looks more like aro-ace representation. As aro-aces rightly have a history of combining the ace and aro flags together for their pride, I think a specific a-spec flag should shift away from this combining of two flags to something new that speaks of both but represents a-specs as a whole.
There’s many ways one could make both flags different, even with using the same colour schemes but changing order or arrangement, or adding other simple designs across a striped field. What about vertical stripes for one and horizontal for the other? Or colour bars taken from ace-spec and aro-spec identity pride flags, together with purple and green, to celebrate and centre the a-spectrum? Or an a-spec flag that’s half green and half purple for the aro and ace spectra, but with a single narrow black stripe (black for unity?) in the centre?
It’s important to have both ace and aro colours represented in a specific a-spec pride flag, but I think it is also important that aro-ace be seen as distinct from a-spec in the minds of flag designers and the community promoting, discussing and using these flags.
Design Authority and #Ownvoices
People not of one identity should not be making flags/pride colour sets for that identity unless they have been commissioned to do so by someone of the identity and have had feedback and consultation from someone (preferably more than one person) of the identity.
This happens quite a bit in broader LGBTQIA+ spaces, so I absolutely understand it not seeming like a problem here. It’s common for people to realise that a flag is missing and then make a flag to fill the gap or complete a set while not being of the identity in question, which is then collated by the many pride-flag collecting blogs and reblogged to the community. I do not see malicious intent in this; I absolutely understand that best intentions are meant. But I also don’t think that this stepping-in serves the best interests of the community the designer intends to represent. Colours and designs are often chosen without any consultation from the people for which this flag is intended.
Pride colours come to be a visual shorthand for our identities, and on a visually-heavy platform like Tumblr, they often result in a lot of creative media. If that pride set takes off, especially if other bloggers give it attention and promotion or the designer is well-known, we suddenly have a flourishing of art representing a certain identity, used by people not of the identity in making pride art sets ... and that identity having had no say in the colours and designs now representing them.
It’s even worse when the designer assigns symbolism to the colours: I’ve seen a few flags created by folk not of the identity where the symbolism offered is designed to match relating flags but says nothing distinct about the experience of the identity (my identity) in question. This is why it’s so important that people of the identity are determining their own colours and symbolism, because most of the time, the outsider designer won’t know what’s desired or important in the symbolism. I don’t feel connected to these flags; they’re not made with my lived experience in mind and it so often shows.
If you’re a designer and you see an identity that isn’t yours in need of a flag or pride colours, approach someone of the identity and ask if they’d like you to help. You must be willing to take on their advice on colour, design and symbolism, but if you’re working with the people for whom the flag is meant, this is fine and awesome. Don’t step in and just decide on a flag yourself.
Speaking for the people lacking pride colours isn’t what pride flag design should be about. Helping people lacking pride colours to speak for themselves by providing software, file formats and design skills should be the role of a designer. If we value the importance of #ownvoices representation, it should start with pride colours. Promoting designs made by someone of or commissioned by someone of the identity in question is vital to keep in mind in a world where flag variants and alternate flags are becoming increasingly popular.
Allo-Aro Flag Design
There’s only a few allo-aro pride art pieces on this blog, compared to multiple and regular aro-ace pride art pieces. Unlike aro-ace, which has a visual shorthand in various ways of combining asexual and aromantic pride colours, allo-aro has nothing as a whole. Sometimes the aro flag is combined with allosexual pride flags, but that still doesn’t group allo-aros together in the sense of having shared experiences both within the aro-spec community and outside it. Pride colours give us an immediate visual representation, easily reproduced, and for this reason they are an important step in recognition and validation.
Since much of my reblogged content is visual art based around pride colours, I can see the creation of an allo-aro pride theme/flag helping to fill that lack. I’d really like allo-aros to get together and discuss pride colour/flag options and symbolism so that I can feature more visual representation for us on this blog. I want to be clear that I see it as more as an addition to our pride; I don’t mean it to replace our aromantic pride colours or our sexual orientation pride colours. (And I’d love to see more pride art posts that combine allosexual orientation identities with aro-spec identities!) Just as many aro-aces use the ace, aro and combined flag variants depending on situation, we can and should use our sexual orientation, aro-spec and allo-aro flags as suits us.
I see an allo-aro flag as an additional shorthand to give us a sense of connection and community, particularly in the sense of a currently-lacked visual presence in aro-spec and a-spec spaces. Without something to represent us, it’s harder for us to be seen, and my hope is that a flag can and will change that.
I’ll be honest: I want an allo-aro flag that veers away from current a-spec flag approaches to colour, design and symbolism/meaning. My thinking is that we need a flag with colour stripes relating to sexual attraction in addition to our aromanticism, as our experiences of allosexual attraction as shaped by our aromanticism is so often an afterthought in a-spec spaces. It’s worth considering that we already have the aro flag representing our aromanticism, often with references to things like friendship and platonic/queerplatonic attraction in the colour stripes. The allo-aro flag shouldn’t, in my opinion, reproduce what already exists. It should represent the allo-aro experience, specifically focusing on those things that aren’t covered by current aromantic pride interpretations and meanings--and for me, that’s the intersection of allosexual attraction and aromanticism.
The flag idea I have in mind has a pink stripe for attraction to femininity, a blue stripe for attraction to masculinity, a white stripe for attraction to gender and genderless identities unaligned to the binary, and a yellow stripe for attraction irrespective of gender, with narrower aro-pride-green stripes placed above and between these four coloured stripes. My thinking is that the sexual attraction stripes with green aro stripes interspersed between them will show that our aromanticism is the thing that connects our diverse experiences of allosexual attraction. I suspect using pastel variations of those colours would be easiest on the eyes and I have no knowledge of colour theory and what hues go comfortably together. This idea is based more on colour symbolism than colour theory, so I suspect it may not work that well in practice.
This is only a suggestion and I’d love to see what other allo-aros come up with. I’m posting this as an example for how I’d like to see a flag that isn’t similar in meaning and design to pre-existing flags, but I’d gladly toss it for any better ideas!
My feeling is, though, that an allo-aro pride flag will fill a gap in the visual media on this blog, and I’d love to kick-start a discussion on making, together, the pride colours that represent us.
