lead balloon (the tumblr post that saved me)
if this comic resonated with you, it would mean the world to me if you donated to this palestinian family's escape fund.
--
no creative notes because this isn't that kind of comic.
I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.
I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.
If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.

HEY YOU!
Yeah, you! Are you trans? Do you like reading books? Or watching movies?
Do you like media about trans men/transmasculine characters but don't know where to find it?
That's sooo crazy because I have this little spreadsheet I'm working on where I'm trying to document all media with protagonists/major characters who are FTM or transmasculine.
The spreadsheet currently has 300+ entries spread across the following categories:
Books
Manga
Memoirs and non-fiction
Movies
TV Shows
Graphic novels / Comics
Webcomics
Audio dramas
Books and movies are also sorted by:
Which character is trans (MC, love interest, antagonist, etc)
If the trans character is POC
The trans character's sexuality (Because I saw lots of transhet guys sad about only being able to find gay romances)
If the author/actor is also trans (if we know for sure)
It's free to use, and free to add to as well! Editing permissions are on, and I check on the spreadsheet every now and then to make sure everything is in order and to clean up.
If you know something that isn't on the list, please add it! You don't have to fill in every single column, but fill it to the best of your abilities.
If you don't want to use the big ass long link below, you can also use: bit.ly/FTM-protags
I made this because I want it to be a community resource. So even if you're not a trans guy or transmasculine person, please reblog!

Percy’s face when Sally mentioned Grover playing a role in getting him kicked out of school…
The way his face scrunches up really tight before relaxing? That’s anger.
But not the kind of anger we see in him in the last episode.
This is the kind of anger that makes you cry. The kind that’s underpinned by embarrassment and hurt and feeling like you’ve been treated unfairly.
Percy knows he didn’t push Nancy into the fountain and he thought that, if anyone would have his back, it was going to be Grover. And then he didn’t. And it’s unfair to Percy. It’s Wrong. Because no one believes him, apparently not even his best friend.
And the way he closes his eyes and takes a really deep breath? That’s a tactic that’s literally recommended to stop yourself from crying when you’re angry. It allows your body to “catch up” with your mind.
What do you wanna bet that Percy learned that from a school counselor?

“If you want more representation” okay but what if they did a better job than all the other actors???
Like, with PJO Rick didn’t go “only black people can audition for Annabeth!! Grover has to be Indian! Zeus has to be black!”
No, the actors auditioned, did a good job, and got the gig.
Like instead of crying cause all these white actors didn’t get it, ask yourself if they even deserved the position.
Everything isn’t some “woke” propaganda or “more representation.” They just deserved the job.

Okay I have a hot take and a controversial opinion here; but I've seen a lot of people get upset over shipping Alastor with other characters due to the fact he's ace, and I totally get it- representation matters. But people shouldn't be getting mad over harmless shipping, especially when it ereases other asexual identities. Demisexuals exist. Asexuals who experience romantic attraction exist. Abrosexuals exist. We want representation too :')

(content warning: blood)
Sewed Up Heart
[ID: A Trigun comic done in grayscale with red accents. First, an anatomical heart gushes blood, forming a puddle which shifts into Vash's coat. Vash's gloved hands can be seen sewing up a tear at the hem.
Vash raises his hands, which are now bare and covered in blood. He looks sweaty and distressed, and he raises his coat to his face and cries into it. His clenched hands rip the sewed portion apart, and the red thread leads to a heart whose own stitches are tearing apart. The background gets darker and darker, and the red looks brighter and starker against it.
Then the background returns to white, and brown-skinned hands using embroidery scissors snip a red thread. Wolfwood holds up Vash's repaired coat, grinning proudly, and does a happy thumbs-up in Vash's direction. Vash lifts his head, seeming distant.
Wolfwood holds out the coat. As Vash puts out his hand to take it, the cloth is replaced so Wolfwood is dropping a sewed-up heart in Vash's hand. Vash rubs the coat against his face with a teary smile. End ID] ID CREDITS

gotta say, theres something really weird about how online queer spaces pretend that intersex people dont exist. even american queer rights orgs seem to ignore us. and then i see kiwi sites on queer communities and theres comparatively a lot of intersex stuff. i go to a local nurses office and intersex people are included in a pamphlet on representation in books. every queer rights org has a link to to sites for intersex rights. am i crazy or is america falling behind? its quite... concerning

Being a black writer in a fandom...(this is about past fandoms I was in as a kid btw)
Being a black writer in a fandom is like seeing some musty ass bitch saying, your favorite characters would not like you because you don't fit the world's example of beauty.
Being a black writer is being told that you don't fit in Fantasy stories.
Being a black writer is being told that your culture is beautiful but not you.
Being a black writer is knowing your favorite characters would take time to get to know you most of them at least. (Yes im looking at ya'll who have problematic faves.
Being black in a fandom is like writing x black reader or black! female reader stories with popular fictional characters and you being shit on or gaining less traction because of it.
Black! Reader or black! male or fem reader stories are important for me and others readers and writers. It helps us bring joy to others who want to read or see other black! Reader stories to feel inclucded.
If ya'll got problems with that, follow the golden rule and keep your unpleasent thoughts to yourself.

something i really enjoy about arknights magic system is how the healing magic works and they are kinda important, after all, Rhodes Island is a pharmaceltical company that also offer treatment and basically, to be able to proper use healing magic you have to know what you are doing, must have studied anatomy of the races and be pretty much a full medic. And despite being really powerful and useful, they are not a substitute of a medical treatment. Sure, in combat, a magic that can stop bleeding and close some wounds are really good, but if you lose a leg or become paraplegic, well, that's it, neither magic or the cience can heal you, they don't know how to do it yet.
This specific aspect of Originium Arts is great because the healing magic is useful, really useful, specially to be used in an emergency, in combat, surgeries, etc. but it's not a substitute, the person using it still need to study medicine to be able to really use that and probably you will still need some medical checkup after. (just think the healing magic as something really powerful, but is not all powerful and have important limits)
In Arknights we do have a bunch of characters that have explicit disabilities even with the healing magic existing because of course it can't make a disability go away, and of course, they are still combat units, some of them are really powerful ones, they exist and can't be unmade by the magic of the world.
And yes, this is about disability representation in fantasy settings, but i liked this lore about the healing magic of arknights way before all this talk started
