The Serenity Prayer
Is the Serenity Prayer in the Bible? If it’s not, is it acceptable for Christians to pray man-made prayers?
Listen to the podcast of this post by clicking on the player below, and you can also subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or Audible.  https://craigtowens.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/the-serenity-prayer.mp3 I am a big fan of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). They are founded on biblical principles. I would paraphrase two of the most important ones as: (1) We need a Savior to set us free and (2) We need…

im not gonna lie im not a huge fan of a lot of the post-thessalonians biblical epistles bc they just seem like preachy moral diatribes (hebrews and 1 john excepted). so it's a bit shocking how hard James goes for basically being the exact same thing?
'The rich will disappear like a flower in the field.'
'The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.'
'Pure and undefiled religion before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress.'
'Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court? Is it not they who blaspheme the most excellent name invoked over you?'
'Faith without works is dead.'
'You believe that God is one - good. Even the demons believe - and tremble!'
'With the tongue we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God.'
'Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?'
And of course, the crown jewel:

Warning to the Rich
Come now, you who are rich, weep and wail over the misery to come upon you. Your riches have rotted and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire.
You have hoarded treasure in the last days. Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer awaits the precious fruit of the soil—how patient he is for the fall and spring rains. You, too, be patient and strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near. Do not complain about one another, brothers, so that you will not be judged. Look, the Judge is standing at the door!
Brothers, as an example of patience in affliction, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Above all, my brothers, do not swear, not by heaven or earth or by any other oath. Simply let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment.
Is any one of you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone cheerful? He should sing praises. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops.
My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, consider this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins. — James 5 | The Reader’s Bible (BRB) The Reader’s Bible © 2020 by Bible Hub and Berean.Bible. Event Horizon - Talking about Spousal Abuse
No where is it written that you have to be a punching bag.
My next book, Event Horizon is scheduled for a December 2024 release and it’s going to take a no holds look at the worst possible scenario that can play out in a police officer’s world. We’re talking spousal abuse, and it plays out horribly in this one. So, I want to start setting that stage for its release and jump into it with both feet. So here we go. Let’s talk about it. DOMESTICS- As a…

Verse of the Day 🙌🏾
‭James 1:27 AMP‬
[27] Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world.

"internet historian's alt-right anyways" "great day to have never liked james somerton" "never even heard of illuminaughtii before this lol"
that's great buddy but don't go around thinking you're immune to this. if you're not looking for plagiarism, you likely won't notice it unless its egregiously obvious. hell, you've probably consumed plagiarized content without even realizing it. even hbomb pointed out that these people disguised what they presented pretty well as long as you didn't try and dig deeper. don't come away just thinking of this as a callout piece, take this as an important lesson about vetting your sources. if googling scripts in quotes was enough to expose the original, we should all start doing that shit!!
edit: it got a little too doomer-y a little too fast so one quick addition
this is hbomb's curated playlist of queer creators, many of whom were victims of plagiarism
this is producer kat on reddit calling for any more plagiarism discoveries and for queer content creators to be uplifted
please take some time to uplift these creators and recommend any you know! if you can help uncover more of the original creators whose work was lifted that would be great too :)
UPDATE- From Hbomb's twitter: "We're in the process of cataloguing everyone James Somerton plagiarised and finding their contact information. Which is quite a task, so to help us out: If you see this and happen to be one of the people Somerton stole from, please email us at [email protected]"

Still Maturing
Sometimes people think that their Christianity matures to a point where they no long have to face difficulties. Actually, the difficulties are bringing a greater maturity and fruitfulness in that Christian’s life that could be realized in no other way.

Epistle of James
In Chapter Two James reminds us of the destruction that can come from discrimination. It affects you as much as it affects the individual hurt.
He highlights two attributes each Christian should work on: to avoid favouritism and a faith that produces deeds.
Favouritism
We are told to treat all individuals equally no matter their race, background and gender; just as Jesus said, "Love your neighbour as yourself." A great example of this action would be the relationship between Jesus and Judas. Jesus still loved Judas even though he knew what was to come. It is important we love all individuals and do not judge their circumstances as God will show his mercy and grace on us.
Faith and Deeds
Alongside the act of loving all equally, James mentions that it is good to have faith, but, faith that produces good deeds is wonderful. We must not only believe in the truth that sets us free, we should also behave in a way that shows our faith. In verse 26, James compares it to a 'body without a spirit'. He states "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." Let us be like Abraham, who had full faith in God and acted according to God which completed his faith (James 2:20-24).

Deadpool and Wolverine is the single best portrayal of Wolverine in live action so far because it's the only one that really understands how best to depict him; a grouchy trainwreck of an extremely divorced dad who loves his dysfunctional shitshow of a family but also can't fucking stand them and is THIS close to driving the station wagon off a cliff during the drive to Sunday church with everyone inside in a fit of alcohol-fueled manic depression.
