what do you think is the reasoning behind mammon's masochistic tendancies? because i'm genuinely curious on your viewpoint on this!

alright this might be kind of a hot take but.

i never really saw mammon as that much of a masochist? of course, his brothers often call him one, but from most of his devilgrams i've read i never really got that from him all that much?

i mean yeah he often gets punished for his wrongdoings by lucifer and in turn gets called a masochist whenever he does dumb shit knowing fairly well he will probably get in trouble for it. but i don't think that makes him a masochist. he makes rash decisions in favor of a quick favorable outcome for him and oftentimes just. doesn't think about the consequences.

he is incredibly soft for mc (and his little brothers, often giving in to their whims) and generally tries to hide that fact, resulting in his tsundere persona for which he in turn gets mocked. and although he likes to act up and present himself as this big demon that constantly demands respect, he's actually one of the more mild mannered from the bunch.

mammon and mc interactions always give me soulmate vibes, even when they're both dumbasses. with them mammon seems to be able to shrug off his tsundere act way quicker and shows a side of himself that is vulnerable, soft and caring. he generally gives me househusband, but not really masochist vibes.

so what i'm basically saying is. in my eyes masochist mammon came to be bc of his brothers slandering him in combination with the way he acts (hiding his true feelings, thus getting hurt when the words he didn't even mean backfire on him), his tendency to end up in bad situations due to his rash decision making (lucifer's punishments, debt, the witches owning half his ass) and his softer demeanor despite being the second oldest

and if you do live for masochist mammon hc's i love that, more power to you! i just personally don't see it- at least not in the way they try to portray it in-game.
