Leafpool and her three bugs

One day, three bugs crawled out of Leafpools skin. She had expected this - running amok in the fields barefoot will leave you open to it..

One of the bugs turned into a moth. It fluttered away all day, flying towards the light of the stars so divine. Until somebody baited it with a flame so hot it would sear it's silky paws off. He survived, but they now keep the moth inside the medicine den, a ceiling window casting the light of the stars on its floor. There's a glass on that window. The moth doesn't fly anymore. He sits and stews and angrily weaves gauze and bandages out of silk.

One of them was a stag beetle. They'd set it loose in the yard, watching as it clamped any approaching bug in half within it's jaws. Unharmed, unscathed. Uncautious. Until once, the same neighbors that had laid soft skinned grubs in it's path, gave it a metal beam to squeeze. The stag beetle chipped it's mandibles, a droplet of blood falling from where it's mighty weapons had once laid firm. It's no longer uncautious, hissing at any outside force approaching his yard. No longer unscathed. He did bend that metal beam, but you can only bend so long until you break..

The third was a scorpion. Black as night, it went around snipping leaves and with it's sharp pincers tried to hold and heal any scraped knee and rowdy neighbour. They bled worse. She eventually stopped trying. Surely those clampers will be better put to use scaring people - everyone ought to do as she says if they know better not to! She's special of course. She knows her place in the world! Until she didn't. Until she learnt that the rules of the world hate her. She became angry, frightened. She'll fit in, surely! She must scream it from the rooftops, repent! That didn't save her. And it never could have. Leafpool wished a scorpion hadn't crawled out of her skin, and the scorpion seemed to wish the same as it waved it's stinger at her heart. Leafpool stood so very still. It didn't land. Like scorpions do, she retreated deep underground, away from everything.

Her stinger did land, though! Just not on Leafpool.

feel like the biggest buzzkill not liking longtail and swiftpaw being brothers, but it's just suuuuch a "oh there's no logical reason longtail would care unless he was family!" retcon to me. or a careless one. i'm a lot more interested in swiftpaw and brightheart being retconned to be cousins than i am about a forced brother relationship that does nothing but muddy up the family tree

im not sure how many critters know this or have considered this but roleplay is a really great way to explore your nonhuman/therian/otherkin identity as well as alleviate species dysphoria!!

It's also so easy to get into as theres no requirements other than someone else to rp with, theres no limitations, you can be as simple or as complex as you want.

I used to role-play warrior cats (text); so much so I was writing paragraphs for my turn because it felt so real, like i was describing and living a life i was meant to have myself. Miss it quite a bit tbh!!
