Project Nixdorf M20 – cleaning the iron 2024

And right now, with a full power, it is going an excellent summer. And I continue to restore old computer. With a name Nixdorf M20. I suggest, that it is a computer level of 286. So, in a middle of June I transport all the parts to the country house. Case is plastic, and I transport it too to the country house.

And, I continue to clean the metal parts from a rust. So, it happened like this, that case itself and small parts are covered with rather big rust. And to restore a computer. First of all, I need to clean it from the rust.

I start to do this, already, in 2023 year. I try different methods. And, only in summer find some proper way to do it. I use a special instrument for cleaning from a rust.

And, in this summer, already, things starts to go better and faster. And, I start to have ideas, that I can do this. To clean from a rust. And this is most big moment.

And, I can, even to say, that metal case is, already, clean from rust about one side. And, I can to remove more concrete rust in the metal. So, more detail work about some fragments with most intense rust. But it is not a lot of this kind. And go to other side. And, I am doing all of these right now. Also, I clean from rust all the details of the computer itself. It is about metal holders. Connectors. And, I need to wash from a rust plastic case.  And I do this too.

Main thing, that all the things are going. And I have some things to say about. Rust is going away with a special tool. And it is rubbed off. With a rag, and metal brush. This tool - it is a special sourness. Which is need to cover a metal. And depending on mark of this tool. Later, you need to wait about 20-30 min. And, then to rub. You can to put in a water some rag. And to rub too. It is about a technique. It depends on certain rust spot. More concrete into metal rust – metal brush. More big layer of rust – too. And what is more easy - you can easily to do with a little rag. After this special thing.

And this way you need to do a several attempts. Everything is going good. It is even more joy! It is so nice, when there is something that you can do good!

And, by the way, it is still have some moments. So, mainly, metal case is in normal state. And rust eats some places absolutely to the hole. At some parts there are holes out of rust. That’s why, mainly, it is normal. About 90s percent. It is a places, where rust eat all the metal - it is hole, or very light surface of metal. And it is fragile and can tear apart or break apart even because of touch. There is such a moment.

Plastic part of the case – it is everything normal about this. It is just good to rub out of rust, which is inside plastic. Process is going on. It is good to rub and rub, as I can to say!

About the details. It is more harder. Some metal construction parts, grille, connectors are in a hard condition. They are covered with intense rust surface. I, partially, rub them. But, I need to more rub. Some details are very uncomfortable to rub. Or some place a metal part is tearing apart, even this can to happen. Some bracings.

It is some danger about a hard drive and power adapter. Hard drive has a heavy cover of rust. Power adapter too. I can rub it. And will they work – it is a question. Hard drive makes less sense to me. It is in better condition. And I can change it. There is some way. And power adapter. In some places he tears apart during cleaning. And, it still has a heavy rust. So, it is still not the final collapse of construction. And inside it is ok state. But, as my brother told me, we need to see it next.

And most big question it is power adapter. I do not know what to change it with. And there are some possibilities, that I will need to do it. And brother told me, that metal can be increased. But, first it is good to clean the rust as good as I can. And it is rather real process! And I am doing it, from time to time, at the country house! At the excellent summer weather or more refreshing evening time. And, I take on a gas mask! To have defense from a metal dust!

It will be very interesting to continue to restore this interesting computer. And for now – I need to continue to clean from a rust. Process takes its time, I do attempts. I cover metal with tool from a rust. I wait up to 30 min. Then start to rub for some time. And next I do repeat, again and again. So, it takes normal time.

Anyway, it is so nice to be at the country house at summer. And to have such a project. Something like some programmers has their pet project. Pet it is goes after some house animal. As I get it. Such a project for interest. So, I have mine one! And I am right now program with Basic. And I have such retro computer old one as a project! And summer - it is just fine!

I severely underestimated how stressful building this pc was gonna be. I realllllly hope all the parts work. I do not want to have to troubleshoot or return anything or deal with a warranty.

If I simply get all my PC parts and put them together I will surely fix my mental health. I couldn’t possibly think of any other way. Yes I have been out of one of my brain meds for a couple days, why do you ask?

NES Computer build. Part 0/??

For anyone that actually reads these,

I'm building my own NES PC. I have some fond memories of playing NES games on unlicensed plug n plays. And when I found out that an NES was a thing I wanted one. To be specific I want the shell and got to thinking that the NES looks cool, but I want to be able to run all the classics AND Eldenring on it. So my want of a PC in an NES had come.

With that being said there will be a lot of research to be done so that the thing doesn't melt itself and so it can be at a reasonable price.

So if anyone wants to (and if I can remember), I can compile all my research here or elsewhere so you too can build your own PC and then shove it into an NES shell. I will be making progress logs and hopefully uploading them with pictures. In any case if you decide to join me on my journey I hope you can at least learn something.

Now with all the fancy preamble out of the way, heres my thought process and how I got to the final decision of what to make.

There are three categories that I have decided for an NES PC that I wanted

1) emulation station. The first idea I had and possibly the easiest and cheapest option. But it's only purpose for me at least would be to play retro games from Ps2 and before and nothing more. The biggest challenge with this is finding an old laptop or computer small enough to fit into the NES shell to call it a day.

2) office computer. More expensive but far more useful. I can take it most places that have a table, plug it in and use excel for my job. It can do most modern comforters and can even run light PC games. However it's too much effort for what it returns. At that point I might as well just upgrade what's in my current computer

3) Gaming computer. This is the most difficult and is also the most expensive. Difficult because the NES doesn't actually have a lot of room inside of it to stuff things into it and depending how you want to use the NES shell, your cable management has to be on point. It's also an issue for ventilation since the temperature can get very high. However, this will be a replacement for my current computer, the lovely Sputnik, and will be just adorable to have. It's also meant to out do my current computer while staying at a reasonable price. No need to buy $5000 worth of computer parts if I can spend only $900 to run games at medium settings.

When I get my NES shell I'll start to properly give a log and what not. Till then, you can give me ideas for what to aim for or what games I should test on it first. Also I need your help deciding on the name. Voyager or Sputnik II. If this is all just a stupid idea, feel free to be ignored in the comments and reblogs.

(slight, vague spoilers ig?) about the HEA route, were we always intended to dislike smitten and his actions here were clarifying that intent, or was it more like character development? I've been seeing more people say that his actions here have made them dislike him during other routes too, so I wasn't sure if he was always supposed to be difficult to like or not

The voices are, among other things, manifestations of the player's emotions. Even the best things in life can be destructive in excess, and in terms of voices, this is far from being a unique characteristic of the Smitten. See also: Cage!Skeptic; Tower!Broken; Witch!Opportunist, etc. etc.

Smitten in HEA is an interesting stand-out case because the route hits particularly close to home for a lot of players. And when something in a fantastical setting hits close to home, there's a tendency to apply real world standards to the characters involved in that event. So players are more likely to take Smitten to task, than they are, say, Hunted, who traps you in a cycle where you and The Den violently eat each other forever, or Broken, who insists on torturing Apotheosis.

If anything, prior to release, I thought Smitten-heads would mostly be upset at his lack of screen time. He has almost *no* dialogue in The Pristine Cut, even in "his own" route, where the role he serves is more that of an echo than that of an active participant. I liked abby's answer in our AMA.

All of this is to say, there's no overarching intention for you to "like" one voice or "dislike" another. Each iteration of them is "different," much like each iteration of the Player is "different" at the start of each version of Chapter 1. And all of them have the capacity to change, for better or for worse.

And that's just this episode, but there's so many little moments in all of their campaigns that really read as ''I will fuck you up <3'' ''I know and I am walking into it with open eyes <3'' from both of them, never hold any punches, because they know the other one doesn't want them to, just. Inflicting emotional damage on each other for funsies is a love language I guess?
