Please enjoy Burr and Doc dust bathing. (Burr is closest with Doc behind her, Rhu hanging out in the left and Barb walking around in the back)
Also holy moly one of my favorite blogs reposted one of my things and I came on to 23 notifications and I thought for a second I was invaded by girlbots

ASK EDDIE returns Thursday, September 21, 7:00 PM PT to our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/filmnoirfoundation/live
FNF prez Eddie Muller responds to film noir fan questions fielded by the Foundation's Director of Communications Anne Hockens. In this episode, we discuss Eddie’s short story “Doc’s Oscar”, the essential Italian noirs and film museums, the disreputable noir characters of wholesome TV icons, memorable bell tower scenes, and more. We wind up the show with a discussion of our favorite film noir openings. On the cat front, Charlotte and Emily are too tired to participate.
Want your question answered in a future episode? We solicit questions from our email subscribers in our monthly newsletters. Sign up for free at https://www.filmnoirfoundation.org/signup.html
Everyone who signs up on our email list and contributes $20 or more to the Film Noir Foundation receives the digital version of NOIR CITY Magazine for a year. Donate here: https://www.filmnoirfoundation.org/contribute.html
Can’t join us on Thursday? No problem! A recording will be up on our YouTube channel, @NoirCity, on Friday, September 22: https://www.youtube.com/user/NoirCitySF
Note: Eddie will not be able to answer questions posted during the livestream nor ones left on our social media accounts
This week's questions:
In a recent episode, Eddie highly recommended the film ROSAURA AT 10 O’CLOCK [ROSAURA A LA 10]. Is it possible for ROSAURA to be restored by the Foundation and made available through Flicker Alley?
Michael, Post Falls, Idaho
Just read your short story, "Doc's Oscar", in the JEWISH NOIR VOLUME 1. Can you give us a little background on its origin? When did you write it?
Jay and Connie, Ann Arbor, MI
I'm planning a trip to Italy. Please recommend your essential Italian crime/noir films. Also, I hope to visit a museum dedicated to cinema. Any ideas
Steve in Mississippi
Have you read “Somewhere in the Night: Film Noir and the American City” written by Nicholas Christopher?
Sean Land O Lakes, FL
For me one of the biggest surprises of seeing familiar actors in Film Noir was seeing Raymond Burr as the heavy. What other later-known actors are the biggest surprises for someone getting into Film Noir.
Carlton, Atlanta, GA
Why does Eddie sometimes use the alias "Eddy von Mueller" for some of his Blu-Ray commentary tracks?
David
The late-'60s and the '70's are thought of as the time of the great neo-noir films, but what about offerings designed to play at drive-in theaters or so-called grindhouses? I'm also curious about regional films or filmmakers since that era was rich with localized film production. Are you aware of any that could fall under the mantle of film noir?
Kathy and Michael, Rockford, Illinois
In the past Eddie has mentioned certain movies that he considers to be more “message pictures” than full blown noir for him. I would love to hear you both talk about what the difference for you is between movies like NO WAY OUT, CROSSFIRE, FORCE OF EVIL etc. and movies that have tinges of Noir but fall into the Message Picture category and maybe some examples of those and why they don’t make the cut. Thanks!
Nathanael from New Braunfels, Texas
I recently watched the Douglas Sirk 1951 film noir, THUNDER ON THE HILL, and noted the similarities between the bell tower scene in that movie with the great bell tower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 VERTIGO. Are there other films noir that include a bell tower scene? And, more generally, what other films noir have great staircase scenes?
Cliff in Fort Collins
Wondering if you know anything about scenes cut from THE MAN I LOVE DVD. The film is listed as being 96 minutes long, but the DVD version is only 90 minutes.
Michael, Chicago, IL
My question is about some very difficult to find Alan Ladd titles, specifically, CHICAGO DEADLINE with Donna Reed and SAIGON. Are these Alan Ladd films tied up in litigation or bound in some type of financial dispute? Is there any hope for their release in the US?
Don
Openings. I have always been fascinated by the first 90 seconds of noir films and I’d just like to pay tribute to my favorite openings and listen as you add in yours as well.

Okay so we're doing this.
Since some people are interested. I bring you
Oh brother. Where do we start.
Your average timeloop au I believe. Au where everything is scripted and the cast's fates are pre-determined. And doomed to live through their mistakes over and over again. BUT there are a few twists to it.
Centered mainly around Burr and Hamilton, as they're the stars of of our little show. In varying levels of literal. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "ship" au. I do admit I like hinting at it though fjdkfjrkfk
If you can't tell I'm a big big fan of tspud
Mass yappery/somewhat proper details under the cut
Here's a quick rundown (oh no) of the main plot
Everyone in this universe is... well, pretty much identical to canon in terms of looks and plotline. That's until our deutragonist and Narrator, Burr, slowly experiences more and more hints of dejavu in each loop that follows, until eventually he's just. Aware. His mind slowly becomes less and less wired to the script and script only. In simpler words, Burr is the most aware/conscious of their situation out of all the cast.
Burr realizes that. Oh shit he's the only guy aware of what they're going through. Not even the main character is aware. Well this took an interesting tur
Wait hold on what do you mean Alexander is not aware.
Well uh, slowly but surely, a little after Burr, Hamilton gains his own consciousness. He is *less* in control compared to Burr, but just enough to be able to conspire with him fjhdjfhdl
They've been trying to send eachother signals throughout "the play" until finally they're both just conscious enough to respond to eachother off script or well. Actually converse and not have to rhyme or have a melody to it every time they do.
I'm bad at words. Their main goal? Undoom themselves from the narrative! The conflict/obstacles? Oh. Oh brother. Everything.
...there's supposed to be a doc here but it's currently being. Tweaked about. Sorry

What did Alexander Hamilton actually look like?
I've spent a lot of time looking at portraits of Hamilton, from the awful (that's an opinion) portrait by Charles William Peale to modern-day facial reconstructions, looking for constant features and repeated descriptions that can help us get as close as possible to knowing how Alexander's face really looked. So, I found myself writing these discoveries down in a Google doc with links to all of the cited portraits and busts and some descriptions. So I wanted to share.
Descriptions
This part features the collection of descriptions from publius-esquire on tumblr, whose account has been deactivated, plus a few I’ve gotten from my own research.
He was under middle size; thin in person, but remarkably erect and dignified in his deportment. His hair was turned back from his forehead, powdered, and collected in a club behind. His complexion was exceedingly fair, and varying from this only by the almost feminine rosiness of his cheeks. His might be considered, as to figure and color, an uncommonly handsome face. When at rest, it had rather a severe and thoughtful expression; but when engaged in conversation, it easily assumed an attractive smile. (William Sullivan)
Although I read with tranquility and suffered to pass without animadversion in silent contempt the base insinuations of vanity and a hundred lies besides published in a pamphlet against me by an insolent coxcomb who rarely dined in good company, where there was good wine, without getting silly and vaporing about his administration like a young girl about her brilliants and trinkets, yet I lose all patience when I think of a bastard brat of a Scotch pedlar daring to threaten to undeceive the world in their judgment of Washington by writing an history of his battles and campaigns. (John Adams)
Hamilton had no more gratitude than a Cat. If you give a hungry famished Cat a slice of meat, she will not accept it as a Gift; she will snatch at it by Force, and express in her countenance and air, that she is under no obligation to you; that she got it by her own cunning and activity, and that you are a fool for giving it to her. (John Adams)
…Yet, in the lapse of days, how insignificant appears the effigy of Burr beside this symmetrical, almost girlish engine of thought, intercourse and public science. (G.W.P. Custis, Katherine Baxter’s Godchild of Washington)
In the intercourse of these martial youths [Hamilton and Laurens], who have been styled “the Knights of the Revolution,” there was a deep fondness of friendship, which approached the tenderness of feminine attachment. (John Church Hamilton, Life of Alexander Hamilton)
…On his return, his friend said, “Well, you have seen Hamilton—you have seen the great man.” “I cannot tell you about his greatness,” the Divine answered, “but he was as playful as a kitten.” (John Church Hamilton, Life of Alexander Hamilton)
Even though he never liked to think of himself as handsome, other people couldn’t help but notice his dashing looks. [...] [his eyes were] deep azure, eminently beautiful, without the slightest trace of hardness or severity.” (Fisher Ames, Martha Brockenbrough’s Alexander Hamilton: Revolutionary) \
Portraits
John Trumbull, 1792, Alexander Hamilton
Another John Trumbull 1792 painting called Alexander Hamilton
John Trumbull, 1805 (post-mortem): The Midnight Appointments: Alexander Hamilton
Charles William Peale, early 1790s: Alexander Hamilton
Constantino Brumidi, published in 1904: Alexander Hamilton, head-and-shoulder portrait
Hamilton’s portrait in the 10-dollar bill, John Trumbull’s 1805 painting
1773 portrait of Alexander Hamilton, when he was either 16 or 18
The features we can see are persistent that Hamiton is always in a ¾ angle except for the last one, which is still made when he was young: the features I keep in my interpretation are his nose, his jawline (softer in John Trumbull’s portraits from 1792 as Hamilton grew older), and his smug grin, including mostly the arched eyebrows and the subtle smile in the corners of his lips.
Busts
Bust of Alexander Hamilton, 1794, by Giuseppe Ceracchi
His head looks like an egg and that’s so funny.
Now seriously, busts are some of the most accurate representations we have in the modern day. This one was made while Hamilton was alive, so more so; if we ignore his egghead, this is one of the most influential pieces on my own interpretation of Alexander Hamilton’s face.
...
So, I sketched my own head-shoulders portrait + side profile portrait + 3/4 portrait. I am going to redraw them and paint them properly, but these are quick drawings I'll use as references for the final one:

I am super aware these are in no way a revolutionary masterpiece, but it's my attempt: to be fair, this is a history account, not an art one. But yeah! This was a dive through every source I could find, and of course, the credit for most of the descriptions goes to publius-esquire as I mentioned earlier.

Whats your favourite burr quotes ;)
I basically have a 150-page Google doc to this effect. Shortening it slightly, however…
“The eloquence which wrought upon me was principally money. I am now at wages. What sacrifices of time and pleasure do I make to this paltry object—contemptible indeed in itself, but truly important and attractive as the means of gratifying those I love. No other consideration could induce me to spend another day of my life in objects in themselves uninteresting, and which afford neither instruction nor amusement. They become daily more disgusting to me”
I hear you, Burr. I only work because cat food is expensive.
“I leave to my actions to speak for themselves, and to my character to confound the fictions of slander.”
So haughty! So noble! But… me beating my head against a pile of biographies and crying...
“What a dull thing is sense. How it mars half the pleasure of life, and yet how contemptible is all that has it not.”
That's just an eternal truth.
"Evening with Bentham; conversed of tattooing, and how to be made useful; of infanticide; of crimes against Nature, &c, &c."
AS ONE DOES. (And actually, I have had many such discussions with old friends. It's what 2am is for.)
“Mem: Took coffee before going out this evening, contrary to all habit, and much afraid of insom., to guard against which have drank a 1/2 bottle of wine.”
And yet the man is also an idiot. But admit it, we've all done this.
"Have left in cash 2 halfpence, which is much better than one penny, because they jingle, and thus one may refresh one's self with the music."
You cannot dislike a man who, trapped in a foreign country, deeply homesick, and utterly penniless, can still find a childlike pleasure in jingling coins together.
“I can play the fool. No one can do it better, no one does it more. But I could never play the blockhead.”
This was when Burr was hiding in a boarding-house in disguise, and was getting nervous that his fellow lodgers seemed to be starting to treat him with respect. I feel such empathy. My friends will be the first to tell you all the idiotic things I have done in my life; but like Burr, I would find it hard to pretend to be actually stupid.
Then there's the extracts from his Senate farewell speech, and all the ridiculous anecdotes in his journal, and, and, and…
Look, I'm gonna quote everything on here *eventually* :)

suggestions for the amrev resource folder that nobody asked for?
i have the structure worked out and want to start adding resources in there: if anyone has any suggestions on edits to make beforehand, pls do so!
Shared Google folder with subfolders:
Events (Resources centered on "events"/"periods": aka Pre-War, Wartime Experience, Constitutional Convention, Federal Period, maybe even just "General")
Topics (Sexuality, Religion, Race, Fashion, etc.)
Figures (Hamilton, Burr, Jefferson, etc. with folders of their own separating their biographies, letters, primary sources, etc.)
Primary Sources (Inside: Newspapers, Letters, etc.)
Inspired (Section for media based on amrev period: thinking Hamilton, 1776, George Washington: Founding of a Nation, Turn. For instance, someone shared their Hamilton musical commentary book, so that'll be a resource under this folder)
NA (resources that don't fit and/or are about things that are too sparse for a specific category quite yet)
Along with this, I have made:
Masterlist: Google Sheet with every single resource in the folder. I'm working on making it sortable by tag (for larger category, specific topics, people, etc.)
Wishlist: A Google Sheet where you can add resources you've like to see but have no access to. Once they've been added to the folder, they'll be crossed off.
Submission Form: Anonymous Google form for anyone to submit resources. File upload or long answer section where you can give me contact info/link to your own folder are both options.
Help & Advice Form: If something doesn't make sense or you think there's a better way to do things, submit here.
RateTheResource: Google doc where you can write out your review/thoughts on a specific resource you are familiar with. I thought it might be helpful to provide context, especially for biographies, on bias level, etc.

Other RSV Spirit's Eve costumes ideas
Since it's October, and just over a year since the RSV seasonal outfits mod was released, I thought it'd be fun to share some of the costume ideas we didn't end up going with from our brainstorming doc. These ideas were ultimately passed over for a variety of reasons (already worn by a different npc, too real world-specific, liked a different option better, etc.), but still would've been great to see... soooo here you go!
(If a character isn't listed, that's just bc we didn't have any extra ideas for them. Also, in case you wanted a refresher, here's a list of the costumes we did end up going with! Also also, bc I can't help myself, I added in some ideas as I was making this post - those ones are in [brackets].)
aguar: doc brown/mad scientist
anton: running forrest gump, the dude, jack sparrow, [flynn rider]
ariah: wendy darling, elle woods, ruth bader ginsburg
bryle: peaky blinders gangster, aaron burr from hamilton, [top gun maverick]
carmen: cat in the hat, mike wazowski, oompa loompa, sasquatch
corine: lara croft

flor: gwen from ben10, human ariel (in the "kiss the girl" outfit)
ian: scottish highlander (a la jamie from outlander)
irene: retro carhop, carmen sandiego, bo peep, the house from up, coraline
jeric: [ups delivery man (but the sexy kind, a la legally blonde)]
june: roronoa zoro, kaneki ken/sasaki haise, [prince zuko], [jack skellington (but with makeup, not a mask)]
keahi: [sonic the hedgehog]
kiarra: ghostbuster (the kate mckinnon one), prince charming
kiwi: kutie krab from spongebob
lenny: beetlejuice, inflatable dinosaur, macho man randy savage
louie: prairie king, [buzz lightyear], [minecraft diamond armor]
maddie: handmaid's tale uniform, marie curie (then proceeds to get mad at everyone for not recognizing her costume)

Here's another shitpost because I got a startling realization while reading a hamburr fic
The author mentioned on the 21st chapter "congrats for reading a literal novel about Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr's torrent love that is 300 pages long in their word docs....

I honestly felt called out lol—in my gdocs, for every page, I separate them into single documents so that I could edit it easier and ensure that I keep track of the word count for each page... back then, starting on the 5th chapter, I upped my word min to 10k words per chap....
Did i? Shit. fuck. I did.... I fucking wrote a novel for a fictional mlm ship that didnt even end in a happy ending😭😭😭😭

What the fuck am i doing with my life lol

MY HERMIT-HAMILTON AU!! (Empires included 😉)
-Hamilton: Mumbo Jumbo (my fav💋)
-Eliza: Grian
-Angelica: Martyn 🤑
-Peggy: Jimmy
-Aaron Burr: Docm
-John Laurens: Scar
-Lafayette: Iskall
-Hercules Mulligan: Impulse
-King George: King Ren, Obvi 😒
-Samuel Seabury: Bdubs
-Philip Hamilton: Grumbot 😉 (he got shot in the face)
-Tomas Jefferson: Geminitay
-James Madison: Pearlescentmoon
-George Washington: Xisuma
-Charles Lee: Zedaph (Take FAT L blud)
-Maria Reynolds: Also Jimmy. he needed more screen time tbh
-James Reynolds: Tango
-George Eacker: Etho (Grumbot killer 💋)
-John Addams: Cleo
__________________________________________________
NOTES I SUPPOSE!!,
-The ONLY reason I chose Mumbo for Hamilton is because Mumbo can’t spell and he ‘writes like he’s running out of time’ Also see how pathetic Hamilton was in the play? Wet cat vibes. Mumbo = wet cat. Mumbo = Hamilton.
-Helpless. Grian. Season 6. Eliza. Yeah it’s Grumbo themed. Because they have kid who got shot the stars align people!,! 👏👏👏 BTW Grian setting things ON FIRE MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. my fav arson boy. Tired of Mumbos silly shit. Same bro 😞 ALSO MUMBO SENT GRIAN LETTERS THRU MESSAGING SYSTEM GRIAN CALL HIMSELF CLINGY GIRLFRIEND. HMMMM WONDER WHAT THAT REMINDS ME OF. ELIZA. BEING HELPLESS. OMG. YAY GAYS.
-*sigh* Martyn DID marry Mumbo but not here. Lose for the Martyn Mumbo shippers. Like the one left. MARTYN GIVES OFF STRONG ANGELICA VIBES. Peggy is Jimmy. Jimmy is Peggy. YOU KNOW WHY. STARS ALIGN PEOPLE 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Also Jimmy grew a pair and stole his siblings man. Bravo Jimmy!
-Docm being Aaron Burr just fits okay? When Mumbo first came to Hermitcraft he found support in Doc. And Doc done SHOT the guy same here bruv. I would too if my wet cat main character supported Gem. SPEAKING OF WHICH-
-Gem, just Tomas Jefferson. MAYBE I WANT A PEARL AND GEM TEAM UP MAYBE NOT. WHO CARES ABOUT GENDER ITS A SCAM MADE UP BY BATHROOM COMPANIES TO SELL MORE BATHROOMS. Hmmmmmm Xisuma as Washington because I am a true believer of Mumbo thinks of him as a Dad core. Dadsuma. RIGHT HAND MAN 🏃♀️
-Uhhh Grumbot is literally Philip. Literally 🔥 They both love their Dads and do they’re last names Proud, they both got shot, THEY BOTH ARE PIANO KIDS! Hmmmm Biblically accurate my friend 🌚
-King George as King Ren just fits. HERE IS WHY!!! 1. they both fruity ass kings. 2. They have Fruity little guy who love and support them. 3. KING REN ARCH AND REBELLION. but then you’ll b like. Why Grian Eliza not Hamilton? Uhhhh because I SAID so. Also because who would be Schuyler sisters? (Don’t answer)
-Hmmmmm Scar as John Lauren’s make me happy…..Redscape hints people👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
-Urm I will NOT throw away my shot ☝️🤓 And make character designs and fake screenshots of these so expect THAT. send in asks for questions blah blah blah. And if I get something wrong, just tell me pls 😭

hamilton mcyt au. (hc and empires)
roles:
Hamilton: Grian Aaron Burr: Doc Eliza: Scar Angelica: Bdubs Peggy: Jimmy Laurens: Keralis Hercules: Cleo Lafayette: Lizzie Washington: Xisuma Phillip: Yeuri (he is my oc! he is the mumscarian fankid) King George: Oli Jefferson: Ren Madison: Martyn Maria: Mumbo
this of course is all a show, they're all acting, this isnt real but its very funny to think about!!! and of course their friends are all watching the show.
xisuma was trying his HARDEST not to break down laughing during right-hand man. especially when grian was screaming, "WHAT?!" after every line.
scar's favorite song to sing was "helpless". he was just so happy when he was singing it
joel was SO confused when lizzie started rapping. he's never heard his wife rap in his life. he absolutely loves it tho
lizzie absolutely loved being lafayette
jimmy originally auditioned to be the king, but the others decided they literally just couldnt see him as the 'villain'.
ren is literally perfect as jefferson lemme tell u this rn
mumbo was trying his absolute hardest not to laugh during his scenes. HE CAN'T HELP IT OKAY
grian was absolutely fucking losing his shit during mumbo's scenes as maria. he was laughing his ass off (not that he didn't love the dress. grian actually liked it, it was just.. mumbo's acting. it was so unlike mumbo it was uncanny and hilarious.
cleo had so much fun playing hercules. like imagine cleo rapping, "LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS AND HORSES". just imagine her rapping hercules' whole entire bit from aaron burr sir.
imagine jimmy singing "daddy said to be home by sundown!!". i just find that so funny
AND imagine scar singing "burn". grian felt a little bit personally attacked by that. ((double life COUGHCOUGH))
bdubs had fin playing angelica. he got to sing "congratulations"!! he had fun doing that.
during 'satisfied', etho kinda felt personally attacked
since yeuri really is scar's and grian's child, "stay alive (reprise)" honestly almost made the two of them cry
anyway yeah

i love this prompt....haven't proofread this even a little it's just been sitting in my docs so i have no idea how it turned out lol
decadence + lilacs + pond
Apology flowers were an Armand special, really. But the walk had done nothing to clear his head, his heartbeat pounding in his ears along with those of everyone that passed him, oblivious in their anxiety or excitement or hunger, their problems all reduced nearly to one bang of the gavel–I want food, I want sex, I want to go home; words that threatened to fossilize in his memory unless he grew too mad with age to care–unless, even then: would madness indulge him like he'd never indulged himself? It tailed him through the streets, wagging this way and that when he came upon a particularly susceptible–and delicious–mark. But Armand had let him lick a sliver of blood off his wrist and kissed the promise into him after, no matter how much he hated tasting his own blood, and Louis was bad at many things, things that had gotten him killed and worse, but never at his duty. His duty had kept him alive when oblivion seemed easier.
Lavender had very little to do with it, always had, which was all the symbolism he needed, but the florist spilled into his brain regardless: surprise, the pleasant kind, her own wish for an unfamiliar face and a familiar feeling, resurrected. The kind of feeling that made the ridge in the middle of your coffin that stuck up into your back painful instead of comforting. He could've told her not to bother, but memories of human life still clung to him like a burr on his back, one everyone could see weighing him down as he walked, no matter how his shoulders straightened themselves from years of raps on the collarbone and his gaze locked on to or swung away from others' depending on what he could tell of their thoughts.
If she wanted to believe he still wanted, maybe he hadn't earned the right to stop her yet; not until he believed differently himself.
Leaving the apartment had been the right idea, flurry of pleas and tears notwithstanding. He allowed the distress to seep into him, a cool, reviving thing, like moonlight on the water, as it dissipated through his bloodstream like the alcohol of Armand’s last kill, settled heavy over bone and muscle. It felt like a bigger indulgence than anything Armand had granted him the past year.
Lestat, he remembered, had never turned down or second guessed a decadence, be of rage as it may–
A spike of fury pierced through him with all the coldness of an icicle, or his mother’s grief–he started, and the florist looked up.
Louis peered into her expression, the crease between her brows. Had he paid her already? He gave her all the cash in his left pocket, trusting it would be enough, and tried not to let the anger that wasn't his seep into the sadness, late as it was to put the dam back up. Armand had trained him enough to tell when the misery so much as twitched in the confines of his brain.
The disappointment settled over the pain in a soothing, numbing stamp; compressed it to half its size and unrecognizable dimensions when it lifted again. Armand sensed his presence.
The park was empty enough, if he kept to the streetlights, walked a little quicker than he usually would, kept his eyes on the blossoms crawling out of the stems clutched in his hands. Only now did the memory roll back over him, a film reel glitching and blurred: Armand saying he preferred bergamot, Armand stopping by a florist’s cart the first time they left Paris and communicating silently to Louis Marius’ favorite scents, Armand feeding him the florist's wrist in their bedroom, having dragged the body back in an extraordinary show of stealth while Louis packed and choked down blood-bile in his throat for the fourth time that day. He'd kept the curtains open as some test of will. Armand had pulled them shut without a word, then let Louis fuck him in the coffin till he was slobbering and all either of them could do was partake of the dazed meal.
Some survival instinct absent in that poor soul had kept away people like Louis from the benches around the pond. Perhaps it behooved him to fetch one himself, in a mirror gesture. Perhaps one look at the flowers and Armand would know exactly what he was doing, would penetrate annals of his mind that Louis assiduously hid from himself except on days he took out and polished his memories until they threatened to drown him—and Armand had always been better at seeing potential than he ever had. It was Armand picking up the clients’ phone calls, Armand flattering them into taking the piece he wanted to get rid of the most, while Louis picked up and brought to their painstakingly dishevelled hovel whatever caught his eye. Would he like to make the next sale, perhaps, pick a dear painting, realize what he so ardently wanted for its future, even if it was only a home on their home’s walls?
Louis smiled, at that; looked up; Armand returned it tentatively.
“Human hobby,” he said, sitting. “They don't choke on pieces that big?”
Armand merely gave him a look, and they let themselves laugh a little. No mention was made of the lilacs.
“The mortals aren't allowed to feed them,” Armand said, still looking out at the pond. “They go elsewhere, where their jailers are paid a little less, to care.”
What did you do to get this bench?” Louis had had problems to broach, things to say. Somehow they melted around Armand, surrounded by the smell of the apology lilacs and the heat of the coat he refused to leave the apartment without. “Eat some old lady?”
Armand kissed him.
It was brief; beautiful. A breathlessness Louis hadn't felt since Paris, when he didn't need to be taken care of and the only blood his tongue regretted drawing was gone forever. He handed the flowers over silently.
In the lights of the lamps reflected against the water he could see the incongruence now; pale blue and deep green and the small red flowers the florist had added of her own accord. Armand’s aesthetic sensibilities would flinch.
“Louis, love,” he said, “shall we go?”

...given that I keep trying to trim my Google doc of collected quotes by/about Burr, why is it now 136 pages long and getting longer?
Oh yeah, note to self, try and get hold of some of the political quotes that aren't in his Memoirs...

How did you created CoR? Did you ever have any idea about this au that you discarded? If yes can you tell us? I really would like to hear!
Also, do you have new other au from another fandom? I really wish to check since you do such a good job creating this here that I also wanna to see more of your own works!
HEHEHE~ oh, prepare to learn some very silly things!
I don’t know if I’ve shared this before, but the story behind Crown of Roses delights me to this day. I was a young soul, obsessed with Henry Stickmin, and had taken it upon myself to come up with the funniest possible character to ship Ellie with. Mind you, I wasn’t a Henry Stickmin nerd yet, so I didn’t know many of the background characters.
It suddenly dawned on me that it would be absolutely hilarious to ship Ellie with Reginald…two characters who would hate each others guts if they’d ever met in any significant way in canon.
At the time, I was also blasting “Satisfied” from Hamilton- and in my head, I formulated this little story following the Toppat King ending, where Ellie and Reginald had been in love long ago, but Ellie was with Henry now- and she had to abandon her love for Reginald because she didn’t want to hurt poor Henry. I was an angsty teenager with a love for mellowdrama, so I thought this idea was delightful.
As time went on, I played more and more with the idea of Ellie and Reginald being exes- and came up with the possibility that perhaps Ellie was briefly leader before Reginald viciously betrayed her and took the role for himself. At first, I wanted to consider this a fan-theory, and scoured the game for any hint that it could be true (I actually think I still have a crappy google doc full of “evidence” for it, haha!), but I eventually had to concede that it was highly improbable.
I actually didn’t discover the scrapped side-game for Ellie until later on, so imagine my THRILL when I discovered that. I took quite a few aspects from it, since the differences between the ideas were almost entirely better on the scrapped side-game’s part.
The story was originally just that, until I discovered the song RÄT by Penelope Scott…and began to imagine a continuation of the betrayal story based around the song. (The ideas that came from this can be seen in THIS animatic, which is actually what “blew up” this AU!) From there I returned to the Toppat King idea, and that grew into…well, I guess you’ll have to see ;)
And oh, so many ideas from this AU had to be discarded (or were altered into things I preferred!)
Originally, Reginald was written to be more cold-and-calculating, with a bit of care for Ellie that was entirely drowned out by his thirst for power. Now he’s become my pathetic wet-cat, who makes mistakes more out of fear than any malicious intent. It makes a bit of sense, as my characterization of him is based strongly off of Aaron Burr (as portrayed in the musical Hamilton.)
That’s the least interesting one, though.
For example:
In this AU, Earrings is Sven’s sister! But originally, in the Toppat King ending, she was going to be the villain- wanting to kill Sven in revenge for…well, you’ll find out in two chapters! But here’s the kicker: I had her being haunted by Randy! His characterization was similar to how I portray him now, just a little more evil- the inspiration from Beetlejuice: The Musical was much, much stronger!
I’ve mentioned “scrapped endings” many times, so I won’t bore you all with that again- but a stranger aspect is that I originally had all of them being canon, and a reveal that Crown of Roses was an actual alternate universe to the main game; Henry had briefly decided to lend Ellie his multiverse powers, and so the world shifted to focus more on her- and she got to experience many endings before ultimately being able to get to a world where Reginald didn’t betray her, and the audience was left to imagine what different endings would look like from there once things were focused back on Henry! Like, Infiltrating the Airship with Ellie in charge…a neat thought, in my opinion!
On a darker note, Suave and Jessica’s relationship initially had much…darker implications. The emotional abuse remains canon, as well as implications of potential physical abuse, but…let’s just say that I briefly toyed with the idea that Suave had grown to abuse her in another way, too. I never planned on explicitly mentioning or showing it, so one could argue that it wasn’t scrapped- but I decided not to really go that far. I have no intentions of confirming or denying it as a possibility, but I wanted to back off of the subject.
On a lighter note, Ellie’s rogue-gang originally included Stu Pendles, a man whose voice claim was TheOdd1sOut and was in gambling debt to Carol. I actually think I originally had intentions of shipping them, too!
Wilting Darkrose was also originally meant to be a parody of emo edgelord characters, hence his goth appearance and edgy name- but I lost confidence in my ability to satirize that well, and grew attached to the idea of a character who saw himself as an important noble leader but was actually a college student with too much hair-dye. (Bonus fun fact!: Ed Zhaust is named that because it’s meant to sound like “exhaust(ed)”- which is what he is.)
Ho ho ho, what a ramble that was! As for the second part of your question:
I’ve worked on a few! I like to imagine Warrior Cats AUs, but I never do much with those. I usually focus on my own stories (I’m making progress in a book I’ve wanted to write for quite some time!) buuut I do have some published stuff!
For example, I’m the director of Wordgirl: Rewired! It was originally meant to be a fan-comic, but now we have two fully illustrated and voice acted episodes of an aged-up Wordgirl series! It’s mostly meant to be a continuation, but due to some slight changes to certain characters one could argue it’s an AU!
I also wrote a fan fiction called “The Night The Moons Collapsed” for Wings of Fire. I never finished it, but I do plan to rewrite it eventually! I’d been reading too many My Little Pony Infection AUs at the time, haha!
Any other things would likely be in my Ao3, and from there it’s mostly Wordgirl stuffs!
