Bwakaw

Lola Igna

hindi ko alam kung tama yung desisyon ko na mag kasunod na panuodin to, both films shares yung faces ng loneliness ng tao especially kapag tumanda na. pero parehas din na bittersweet ang ending.
im not good in films lalo na mag explain ng thoughts ko about sa mga yan, masasabi ko lang na touch ako sa mga ito. lalo na siguro with Bwakaw. ang deep kasi ng hugot nung about sa acceptance niya sa sarili niya as a gay man; that it was too late for him to become the person he shouldve become.

on bwakaw (2012), reposted from letterboxd
watched february 23, 2022
this movie touches on a topic we don't talk about often and that is queer people's complex relationship with aging. for us younger ones, we're sometimes crippled with fear (or perhaps, cynicism) that we might not make it to rene's age because we know not many of our "kind" do. or in my personal case, i rarely ever hear about queer people who actually made it that far, and the lack of role model riddles me with anxiety. when we do hear stories or acquaint ourselves with older queer folks, they're often seen as someone incomplete, someone plagued with loneliness - just like rene. even for the non-queer majority there is a high value placed on youth. imagine how it is for a lot of us who missed it. napaglipasan ng panahon, ika nga ni rene. sexuality plays a big role in our becoming and to only realize that in such a "late" age... i can only imagine how heartbreaking it initially feels. i'm only 20 but realizing my gender orientation at this age makes me feel like i was robbed of a lot of time. of opportunity. none of us should be robbed of our "prime", but neither should we feel like our youth is the only thing that matters. realizing my sexuality and gender identity is rebirth for me. at hindi naman tayo nabuhay (muli) upang mag-intay lang na mamatay.

Gameboys
there’s still 3 episodes however I could definitely say that Gameboys is one of the best BL series I’ve watched. I expected it to be good since it is produced by Jun Lana (who I liked since I saw Bwakaw). Gameboys is beyond the cheesy lines delivered by the actors, Episode 7 of the series can prove that.
I want to congratulate everyone who made this series possible despite the current pandemic we are facing right now. Elijah and Kokoy, you’ve earned a supporter in me.
Hopefully CaiReel survives this pandemic so that we can all enjoy Gameboys the movie on cinemas nationwide.
PS. thoughts still hazy, haven’t moved on after watching episode 7 last night

round 2
Warning: contains Gameboys: A Love Story book spoilers
So the anticipated second season of Gameboys is in production while Pearl Next Door is yet to premiere its remaining episodes dubbed as a “three-part finale”. I am assuming that the team wants to maximize either the time or the availability of the GB casts (primarily Elijah Chameleon Canlas and Kokoy Busy de Santos), now that PND filming has wrapped.
Based on this teaser photo and as confirmed by the IG stories and tweets of the cast and crew, we will be seeing on-set shots (and perhaps filming via lenses). It appears that Carlo Mendoza is the director of photography for Season 2 (It must be pointed out that Mendoza is also the cinematographer of the award-winning film Bwakaw). I have also just received the book (sa bundok kasi ako nakatira kaya na-spoil na rin ako ng mga maagang nakatanggap nung book), and Jun Lana indicatively pointed out that the second season is different from the first in a sense that the characters will not be too bound by screens or video conferences anymore. I have said this during the finale of Gameboys Season 1 and I will say it again: I am looking forward to the evolution not just of the story but of the storytelling as well. 🦈
