*Differences* of Sexual Development is the more PC term!! I came across this after hearing out a few DSD/intersex/CCSD people and their frustration in being used as a “prop” for trans rhetoric. I had actually never ever heard from a DSD/CCSD person on the trans topic for years til I heard those people this year.
I always thought it had been a mutual understanding and even support on their part to be part of trans/self-ID rhetoric, but it seems not?
They also said something about how the phrase “assigned at birth” originated from the DSD/intersex/CCSD community. The phrase came out of the debate concerning “sex-conforming” surgeries done to babies before they could consent, hence literally “assigning” the “sex at birth”. They said they fought for no sex- conforming surgeries on minors until they were of age to decide what to do with their bodies on their own because of the complications that arose in their lives as a result of having the conforming surgeries before their consent. So, that’s where the phrase “assigned at birth” is actually taken from
I never really thought about or heard of this before, so I thought I’d share.
Edit: I had a guy comment on this telling me this is offensive and he was “intersex”… I went to his page and found he had actually purposefully castrated himself and also identified as an “eunuch”. He’s not intersex… He even, without me having said such a thing, said I called him a “pervert”, which was a huge red flag that he’s been called that before!
this is where self-ID becomes an issue… a man who willingly had his parts removed claimed he was “intersex” and speaking for people with DSD…

CCSD Pilots Signal Blocking Cell Phone Pouches & The Problem with Banning Tech in the Classroom
Since February CCSD has been piloting a program in 10% of it’s schools where 6th-12th grade students are required to put their personal cell phones into unlocked signal blocking pouches in their classrooms for the school day. The whole district is set to implement this program beginning in August for the 2024-2025 school year. In my seven-years working as a classroom educator in the district, I…

Why Change?
The Cambria Community Services District has proposed retiring the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission (PROS) and replacing it with a Standing Committee. As vaguely defined in the Board discussion of July 20th, the objective is to bring PROS in line with the other existing standing committees. The benefits of this structure will be, uh, umm, er, – well, I’m not sure there are any. As a…

performingborders x Central School of Speech & Drama Collaborative Doctoral Award
Border-artists: Critiquing border logics in transnational digital performance Supervised by Dr Diana Damian Martin (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama) and performingborders (Xavier de Sousa, Alessandra Cianetti & Anahí Saravia Herrera)
Fully funded by London Arts & Humanities Partnership (LAHP)
The application process is now concluded and the award recipient as been selected. More to be announced soon.
performingborders and Central School of Speech and Drama are proud to announce a new fully funded Collaborative Doctoral Award (PhD), now open to application by any prospective student interested in borders, digital performance, live art and transnational research. This PhD looks at the reproduction and revisioning of borders in contemporary transnational digital performance. Its objective is to develop a method of analysis — ‘border work’ – that captures the complex artistic and political processes that shape contemporary transnational digital performance, its production and curation, advancing new imaginaries for migrant-led social change. Starting from the performingborders archive, this CDA examines the development, curation, and outcome of digital performances by migrant artists of colour working in the UK and internationally, exploring how borders are experienced and how they become a space of fluidity and agency, rather than violence and separation. As the focus of this studentship is on border-work, this application is open to candidates with lived experience of migration.

Calgary's public and Catholic school boards have revealed new rules banning the use of cellphones, tablets, laptops and smartwatches in classes, aligning with a ministerial order from the province to prevent distractions from learning. The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) unveiled its approach to regulating personal mobile devices on Tuesday. Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) chief superintendent Bryan Szumlas informed parents of its new rules in an email on Friday. The rules cover use of personal mobile devices as well as devices capable of communicating with them like headphones or Bluetooth speakers. [...] Students in kindergarten to Grade 6 in both school districts will not be allowed to use any personal mobile device while at school, with exceptions made in certain circumstances for health or medical reasons, or specialized learning needs.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Clark County School District employee was arrested after being accused of contacting or attempting to contact a minor for sex, according to police.
Jerusalem Garcia, 20, was arrested on Friday, Aug. 23, and taken to the Clark County Detention Center. The arrest stems from an investigation initiated on Friday at Eldorado High School, police said.
Garcia faces one count of contacting or attempting to contact a minor by a person of authority for the purpose of sex, CCSD police said.
Garcia is a Specialized Program Teacher Assistant assigned to Eldorado High School and has been employed by the District since August 2021. She has been placed on leave per the terms of the negotiated agreement with the bargaining unit.

Westside School (1923) – 330 W Washington Ave. Oldest surviving school house in Las Vegas.
This was the second school house in Las Vegas when it opened as Branch No. 1, Las Vegas Grammar School, in September 1923, for kindergarten through 8th grade. Las Vegas schools were integrated in the 1920s. In the 30s & 40s, segregationist barriers rose in the public and private sector, including racially restrictive covenants to added to deeds, and the City's refusal to renew licenses of African American-owned businesses downtown unless owners moved to the Westside. Segregation in public education increased as a result, as elementary schools on the Westside filled with African American children whose families were restricted from living in other Las Vegas neighborhoods.
The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was completely renovated in 2015/2016 by KME Architects.
Timeline of Westside School:
'23: Original building, two rooms. Allison & Allison of Los Angeles, architect.
'28: Original building expanded with two additional rooms.
'46: Las Vegas School District's first African American teacher, Mabel Hoggard at Westside School.
'48: Annex building addition, west side of the parcel, eight classrooms and administration office. A.L. Worswick, Las Vegas, architect.
'55/56: Clark County School District (CCSD) formed.
'60: a one-room addition constructed on the east end of the north wing of the building.
'67: Closed as a school house.
'74: School Board of Trustees sale of the school to Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County (EOD).
'77: Renovation to accommodate offices of EOD and radio station KCEP.

Space station trajectory data now available
Space Station trajectory data is now available to the public! This data, called an ephemeris, is generated by the ISS Trajectory Operations and Planning Officer (TOPO) flight controllers in the Mission Control Center at NASA's Johnson Space Center. TOPO keeps track of where the ISS is, where it is going to be, and most importantly makes sure it isn't at risk of colliding with other objects in space.
At ISS's altitude, a very thin atmosphere is still present. This thin atmosphere creates drag and over time can cause TOPO's predicted ISS trajectory to accumulate errors. Because of this, TOPO updates the predicted trajectory approximately three times a week, so the ISS Flight Control Team has the best trajectory estimate possible. An accurate trajectory is essential for maintaining communications links, planning visiting vehicle rendezvous, and ensuring ISS's path is clear of any potential collisions.
The links are to the most current posted ephemeris. The ephemeris is in the CCSDS Orbital Ephemeris Message (OEM) standard and is available in .txt and .xml file formats. Each file contains header lines with the ISS mass in kg, drag area in m2, and drag coefficient used in generating the ephemeris.
The header also contains lines with details for the first and last ascending nodes within the ephemeris span. Following this is a listing of upcoming ISS translation maneuvers, called "reboosts," and visiting vehicle launches, arrivals, and departures.
After the header, ISS state vectors in the Mean of J2000 (J2K) reference frame are listed at four-minute intervals spanning a total length of 15 days. During reboosts (translation maneuvers), the state vectors are reported in two-second intervals. Each state vector lists the time in UTC; position X, Y, and Z in km; and velocity X, Y, and Z in km/s.

Hot take I guess but if you hold a position of power in public schooling, affecting conditions in public schools, you should be required to put your kids in those schools. If the conditions in the schools you oversee aren't adequate for your own children, why are they acceptable for anyone else?
