Sixty years ago this summer, throaty-voiced Carrie Nye portrayed the Queen of the Nile in George Bernard Shaw’s Caesar and Cleopatra onstage at the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut. As The Harvard Crimson raved in August 1963, “The prime virtue of this production is the Cleopatra of Carrie Nye. As she is made up, she looks surprisingly like our current screen Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor; and she has the added advantage of acting ability.” Their critic also noted Nye’s ��felinity”: “An occasional huskiness in her vocal delivery suggests she may even have furballs inside her.”

Wanna know the best bit? Cleopatra, arguably the love of his life (in whichever way hybristic Romans understood that), was born in 69 B.C.

So much history was lost to us, simply because it was seen as such common knowledge that no one thought it would ever not be. How much of the history we are making will be lost; just because no one thinks to make a note of it? On the other side, how much will be saved because of our new technology? However, in the same vein, how much will that same technology and our obsession with it cause us to miss?

Mr. Jordan (Here Comes Mr. Jordan) - Comfort personified. Just the right amount of warm fuzzy and his voice is the equivalent of a blanket fresh from the dryer, a warm beverage, and a roaring fire while there's rain pouring down from the sky. He puts me at ease and I adore him so. What I wouldn't give to have him be my personal guardian angel. He always seems to have everything under control and knows just the right thing to say in the moment. This was apparently a favorite role of his and he plays it to perfection. He seems to float through life and his performance is heavenly, pun intended. With him, everything just seems alright in the world.

He's literally so perfect in every single way. He could fix me. I also love it that we get to see how kind and gentle Claude can be when compared to his other villainous roles. If this character and his character from 'Angel on My Shoulder' had a crossover, I think I could die a happy girl. :)

THE ASSASSINATION OF JULIUS CAESAR AS TOLD BY William Shakespeare AND George Bernard Shaw will have its world premiere at the West End Theatre (263 West 86th St.), starting performances on February 24th, 2024. The play is adapted and directed by Eric Tucker from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and Caesar and Cleopatra by George Bernard Shaw. Tucker's adaptation will be an in-depth examination of the character of Julius Caesar by combining Shakespeare and Shaw's character as one. Caesar's journey from Alexandria to Rome, from beloved, charismatic leader to a perhaps mistrusted tyrant will be especially potent in this election year.
