“Sanki her şey yolundaymış gibi.
Sanki hiç birşey olmamış gibi.
Sanki sensiz kalmamışım gibi.
Güneş doğuyor, ay batıyor
Her gün sıcak ekmek çıkarıyor karşıki fırın.
Mektepte dersler devam ediyor.

As a huge fan of the classic novel this is based on (and which actually helped me to get through some of the toughest times as a teen), I really dislike the latest adaptation of Calikusu from a decade ago because it’s only loosely connected to the novel and is pretty not fitting as an adaptation (the novel is not even primarily a romance but a story about female liberation and education) but the clothes are so so gorgeous and the chemistry between the leads (who are by now married with two kids in RL) is mmmmm! I think if I weren’t a novel fan, I’d have liked this. And this vid is soooo pretty!!!!!

Blog PSA
I have moved some things around on my blog because it was getting a little crowded. If you’re looking for TV show edits that used to be in my sidebar and don’t see it anymore, it’s under the “My Other Edits” tab in my sidebar.

In the unlikely event anyone wants to know what my first Turkish show was - 1986 adaptation of Calikusu. They bought and dubbed it in the USSR. I was a small kid but my tastes in fiction have remained consistent my whole life apparently because I saw it and went OMG I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE!!!!
(I also thought the FL was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.)
Funnily enough, after we immigrated to the US, the Russian language translation of Calikusu was one of the first books I read in this super alien to me place. I knew no English and almost nothing of America. (I saw people running around in Halloween masks a few days after we came and was “what is this? Some sort of gang thing?”) I was terribly homesick, missed my friends and we were broke, in a bad neighborhood and my parents and I all slept on one narrow sofa. It was all quite overwhelming.
But my cousins had this book and I buried myself in the heroine’s struggles in a strange world and it really helped everything not seem so bad.
So I will always have a huge soft spot for Calikusu.
