I also want to share this little old lady with everyone. Her name is Ophelia, but everyone calls her Opie. Also known as: Ope-on-a-rope, Honey Bunches of Opes, Popels, Ope-a-dope, and probably countless other nicknames that I've forgotten. She's 15 years old and weighs about half a pound soaking wet and is still the size of a kitten. She is the chillest cat in the world, you can hold her any way and she's fine with it. I haven't seen her in over a decade but I got to hold her again today and she is still a sweet old lady.
#She has bladder cancer#so this is probably the last time I'll get to see her#so I just wanted to share this sweet old lady with everyone.#Z speaks

smoking is not cool
i'm not a sanctimonious person for "toxic" cultural stuff and i'm definitely not one to be caught in "think of the children" hysteria but i need to get real and have unpopular opinions from time to time (i don't like having much followers anyway) so my current one is that people need to actually shut the fuck up about smoking.
i come from a very rural region where lung cancer, broncopathy etc are still traditionally prevalent and the effects corporate publicity had on women smoking caught up just a generation ago.
the WHO, gov's and organisms have spent so much resources and money on countering this, on effective measures actually, that made a generational difference - awareness and civic education and healthcare - but you see how gen z and gen alpha are (meaning they're contrarian just like any young generation), and they're gonna come into fandom or meme shitposting or inceldom or femceldom spaces or whatevs and everyone's talking about legal drugs like tobacco so casually, like it's not the first preventable cancer death cause in the developed world and we can not know that.
you have some social responsibilities. even if you think so, please, shut the fuck up about how cool it is, how great it's for your anxiety and vibes in front of an entire impressionable audience of teenagers with half-baked brains exposed to misinformation, who think climate change and vaccines are political issues to be edgy about.
smoke your cigarette in semi-privacy, avoid exposing people to passive inhalation, feel a little bit ashamed about it, at least enough to not make aesthetic posts, and by god shut the fuck up.
it's not just a culturally condoned drug addiction and that's not shameful (that's a mental illness), it's that people are treating its factual comeback like it's the equivalent of a reclaimed slur. it's dumb and it would be sad if it wasn't actually a public health hazard.
please just do better. just do better and don't play dumb. sincerely, someone who gives a fuck about things.
#smoking#anti smoking#rant#polemic#mental illness#hi yes#tobacco addiction is a mental illness#you are a legalized and utilized addict and a walking ad#and its also bladder cancer and a thousand other diseases just from ppl who spend time with tolerated habitual smokers

Help needed:
I don't really know how to write serious posts without feeling like I'm coming off hokey but this is important so I'm just gonna have to deal with that discomfort.
My dad was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive bladder cancer. As of right now we don't have a total quote for his medical treatment, but we've already been struggling to afford the gas to get him to his appointments - let alone that it looks like some of his chemo medications won't be covered by Medicare.
We are hoping to get some help with the costs associated with this diagnosis, so my mom's organized a gofundme. Please help me get some eyes on this, and if you can spare any money I would be eternally grateful.

My dog and I walk between the same bushes so often we've worn a path in the dirt. This, I know, will rip my heart out any time I see it once she's dead.
#no one else goes up that way to walk their pets so i know it's only us#there's a designated dog area but it's kinda far away and i got permission from the complex to walk her wherever#since she has cancer and her meds make it harder for her to have bladder control

Also also, I'm worried about one of my friends. The last time I heard from her she caught covid and was hospitalized (she's severly chronically ill) and my last message didn't get through to her which means her phone is either turned off or died. It's been two days. Usually she replies within 10min so this is a very bad sign, I think.
#personal posts#and my other friend just got diagnosed with bladder cancer#worries worries worries#on top of everything else#i keep checking google to see if the first friend may have died 🥺#i'll be so relieved once i hear back from her

the vet today really tried to talk me into paying $600 for the same service they provided for my mom and her dog a few months ago for under $100
#they told me the urine sample i got from my dog at home for a uti test wasn't sterile enough#but it was not an issue in the slightest when my mom did it#THEY told me to get the sample and then i got there and they were like#'um actually 🤓 we'd prefer if you let us use an ultrasound to find her bladder and extract the sample with a needle ourselves'#'we only have to use anesthesia if she struggles too much' kay well she will struggle bc she hates being put on her back#and you can't give her anesthesia cause she's an old dog with cancer#and also im not giving you 600 fucking dollars when you did this exact same test for my mom a few months ago#using a sample she brought from home#what the fuck?#text post#and the more i denied it the more it was like 'well....'#'well we're really just looking for the presence of red and white blood cells alongside bacteria so it should be fine i guess'#'well we'd really want to do that test to find out the specific bacteria but since this isn't a recurring problem it should be fine'#'well if it comes back after she's done with the antibiotics then we'll know it's more complex but we don't have any reason to think that rn#THEN WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO PAY $600#AND WHY DIDN'T YOU PULL THIS SHIT WITH MY MOM?!#is it cause im younger? you think you can convince me bc im young and niave?#my dog is 12 years old and 3 years into a terminal cancer diagnosis#i just need to know if this is a symptom of her body finally shutting down of if she just needs antibiotics
