🌻 for Edge?
🌻 (sunflower) - What’s something your character has grown out of? Did it happen gradually or was it a drastic change? What caused this shift?
When Edge was little, he was actually entirely nonverbal! I always like to imagine most Papyri are quiet when very young, and took a while before their first words, but few to the same degree.
Id say it was both gradual and drastic, as he started offering a few sparse words to Red when he was around 6-9, but once they were on their own, there was more pressure to "act normal", so he wound up forcing himself to verbally communicate more frequently than he would've chosen.
Whiiich also sort of answers the next part! It was mostly pressure from "the outside world" (the rest of the underground). Pretty much anything can be perceived as a weakness, and since "quiet" reads more as "shy" for a child/teen, Red discouraged Edge from communicating predominantly in Hands.

#look at that thing.#thing that looks at you#wait does anyone else know that meme that’s like I hired this [picture of character staring] to [picture of character staring] at you#him#it was bad enough he was weird just by behavior but then red was like. ok. you have to stop acting like a character from the shining. speak#one normal sentence. and then little edge would say some shit like is death just a concept or the most true form of existence#and red is like. ok. we need to work on this#ominous little edge my beloved <3#red also told him to keep himself safe by any means so there were plenty of times he’d just like.go through a wall to get away from someone#air walk over a ravine. shortcut straight out of there. like honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d garnered rumors of being spirits#maybe ghost monsters possessing skeleton bodies…#anyway#kiok0r0#clear sky sunset#snow and hail#sun spots#uf edge#underfell papyrus#I will actually also make this this weeks uf papyrus Monday post bc I thought I’d have the other one done today too and I Did Not </3#uf papyrus monday#all the same ty for the ask I’m sorry for all the tags <///3#🌸❕✨#capricious skeletons#babybones

the doctor is like that bit from casper the friendly ghost where he's like "can I keep you," because it's these deep connections to people that can't last and there will always be a mild to severe gulf between them, and there's something just a bit unnerving about it, like you've been sucked into this being's frenzy because they can't bear to be alone and you want to, but there's something a tad lovecraftian about the whole universe the doctor introduces you to, that the doctor radiates a need to keep you in, and if the doctor weren't good you'd worry a bit about the intensity of the doctor's emotions towards you and you're worried a bit anyway, but you're not entirely sure why, only that even if you survive and leave (or get left behind) you will be forever changed in indescribable and often terrible ways, and the doctor knew this going in and you didn't, and they let you take the plunge anyway, but what else could you do and what else could they do? the doctor wishes they could keep you forever and ever
#doctor who#dw#thinking a lot about companions lately#with tales of the tardis and also the post-companions group and the like#it's also a little peter pan except the doctor isn't quiiite as capricious i think#sometimes but way more protective of the companions for the most part

Skizzekai: A hero's journey
Chapter 26: Interlude II
Evil X talks to his cronies about their latest failure.
Story summary
Skizz Leman has a stressful job, an apartment, and not nearly enough time to do all the things he wants to do in life. All things considered, a pretty normal human being just living his life in a boring world.
One day, a portal opens in his living room and yoinks him into a world filled with magic and mystery and dangers and wonder. Upon arrival, he is told that he is in fact the chosen one who will defeat a great evil. What that evil is? No idea. How does he accomplish that? Sorry, buddy, that’s up to you to figure out.
So that’s what Skizz sets out to do. With the help of some magical friends, he crosses all of Hermiton in search of allies and information, so that he may one day fulfill this prophecy and become the hero he was destined to be.
He just needed to defeat a great evil. No problem, right?
#hermitcraft#skizzekai au#happy one-year anniversary to this story in particular#almost exactly one year ago I posted the first chapter#and we're here already!#here's to the year(s) yet to come!#capricious updates

Ilevath and his very uneasy relationship with the Scarlet Chorus, it's recruitment practices, and it's ~survival of the ''''fittest'''' doctrine; and on the flip side, the balancing act story he tells himself about how he really was uniquely worthy of being saved from the absolute nightmare of that recruitment where so many others apparently weren't/aren't, while at the same time feeling an intense gratitude and indebtedness toward Tunon & the court for being those saviors.
the idea of his being chosen to serve the court as essentially just a random lucky stroke would be rather upsetting to the notion of a world that's largely just and ordered and reasonable, obviously! and he himself is very willing to be the agent of sparing other people's lives from whatever fate the Chorus would have in store for them, if/when he can find other acceptable options to divert them toward in his capacity as a court agent.
but even so... the Chorus has its right to recruit. and he's certainly willing to have captured/surrendered prisoners given to them as a fair ("fair") option for a second chance. awful as the conscription/initiation process is, in these cases it's something like a logical (and frankly merciful) consequence of their own actions - that's not something he's going to lose sleep over.
(and if it's a sensible consequence in those circumstances, then that also brings us back around to the opposite, that his being claimed by the court instead was also a sensible consequence of.... something about his person and talents, that others didn't have. surely. .....he does not, as a general rule, try to ever linger overly long on the occasional thoughts of the other members of his prior guild.)
#Varoyen Ilevath#legal clerk destroyer of worlds#and why yes I DO have kicking around a character concept for one of those former guild members for post-game headcanoning purposes#childhood friend/acquaintance type who played the hand he was dealt and rose up to middling respect as a Chorus mage#but oh boy was he Not Chill about any of it. is still not chill in fact. is perhaps going on a personal deceptive revenge quest about it#like. your life was capriciously ruined and then years later the one kid who got spared shows up again in Cushy Powerful Position 1??#yeah no. knife-twisting payback time for that shit

It was assumed that, as a woman and one not born to rule, [Anne de Pisseleu] was prey to passions and vengefulness, that she could have no consistent 'policy'. / *Anne’s political activity has often been described as incoherent and Anne herself as a flighty interloper in the male business of politics…whose “role in court politics under Francis I was essentially capricious, with changes of alignment according to the whim of the moment”.
*Contemporary reports are partly responsible for the interpretation. / For Benvenuto Cellini (1500–1571), who saw too much of her for his own peace of mind, she personified fortuna in all its caprice. For the papal nuncio Hieronimo Dandino (1509–1559), who saw a great deal of her and noted her dislike of gossiping Italians, the king in 1543 was more a prey than ever to his lasciviousness and under her sway. He thought the secret of her success was the spirit of contradiction, always saying the opposite of what others did. For the Imperial envoy Nicolas Villey de Marnol, Anne had been légière (unstable) all her life. This was the same view as that of the Venetian envoy Marino Cavalli (d. 1572), who reported in 1545 that, despite her previous preference for peace with England, she was pressing for further war, hoping that failure would undermine Admiral Annebault, her rival. Literary views were similar; for instance, Rondabilis, the protagonist of the 1546 Tiers Livre by François Rabelais (1494-1553), views all women as frail, variable, capricious, and inconstant.
*[However], in her political actions nothing distinguishes [Anne] from her male counterparts. Court factions resembled neither modern political parties nor social cliques. Factions formed around a central dispute—in the case at hand, around the long-standing rivalry between Brion and Montmorency over their competing desires for supremacy, or, to put it slightly differently, over their incompatible strategies for dealing with the emperor. In 1540 Montmorency, himself on shaky ground, spearheaded an effort to get Brion investigated for fraud. Begun by the chancellor Poyet in August 1540, the investigation resulted in the admiral’s conviction in February 1541. In general, other quarrels then formed around the central one, with different players joining in when they thought that to do so might further a cause of their own. Factional players changed tactics with shifts in the situation— Marguerite of Navarre and Montmorency switched sides with noticeable frequency, as did François I, Henry VIII, and the emperor—leading to an impression of constant treachery. But such side-switching is quite simply the inevitable result of factional politics, which is, by definition, the spontaneous formation of groups to promote results in the absence of overarching institutions formally invested with the authority to arbitrate. Nothing like a political ideology of the type that unites members of a modern political party and determines their response to issues motivates members of factions. As for the perception of factions as social cliques, it is even more difficult to find evidence of friendship as a motivating factor. Despite the well-known language of love that marks exchanges of the period, decisions were in a strange way also fundamentally impersonal, motivated by family interest.
— David Potter, "The Life and After-Life of a Royal Mistress: Anne de Pisseleu, Duchess of Étampes" / *Tracy Adams and Christine Adams, The Creation of the French Royal Mistress: From Agnès Sorel to Madame Du Barry
#historicwomendaily#it's truly insane the way Anne has been criticized as capricious & inconsistent & duplicitous because she changed sides...in situations#that were inherently fluid and volatile which required people to change sides depending on the current context#like it really cannot get stupider than that lmao#anne de pisseleu#french history#16th century#my post#queue#also to be clear: I've merged two different books and the * symbol is put before the Adams' writing

I Was Bored Earlier This Week...
...and instead of doing anything productive, I poked at SToFLO's tags on AO3 for grins and giggles. Then I broke out the calculator because I am a dweeb. Here's some of the more interesting numbers.
The ATLA fandom on AO3 is rather large, of course, but I was impressed with how well SToFLO's stats held up. Top 4% for kudos, top 2% for hits and bookmarks, and, finally, the top 1% for comments! (The last one might actually be cheating a bit. I've had a few long conversations in the comments' section.) Now, to come back down to Earth, what that actually means is StoFLO was on pages 75 for kudos, 37 for hits, 31 for bookmarks, and 20 for comments. Heh, yeah, I don't think anyone will be finding the story without a bit more filtering.
On the other side of the spectrum, the "Ozai Dies" tag (or "Ozai is Deader than a Doornail" on SToFLO) is only 3 pages long with 57 works total at the time of my integer-based tomfoolery. And would you look at that! I managed to find a recognized tag on AO3 small enough that SToFLO is in the top 5 when sorted by bookmarks, kudos, comments, hits, and word count! I find this especially funny because I only added the tag as a clarification that the main character was not actually canon!Ozai.
Jumping back to that semi-inflated comments number, it snagged SToFLO places on page 2 of "Zuko-centric" and page 1 of both "Fire Lord Zuko" and "Fire Nation Royal Family."
Not too shabby, all things considered!
Anyway, when I was done with my nonsense calculations, I cleaned up the tags on the story and took the opportunity to add a few that were missing before. One casualty was my beloved "Updates at the Pace of my Capricious Muse" tag for an "Aiming for Monthly Updates" tag.
I've never actually held to a writing/posting schedule before, but I think it's about time I gave it a try. For a few reasons, not least of which is the sheer discrepancy of the amount I updated SToFLO in its first year compared to its second. I know monthly is a pretty slow update rate, but this is fanfic written in my spare time as a hobby; and, even as slow as monthly is, this last year I've actually been posting less than that. (I suppose if the extras in Folktales and Fables are counted, then it's roughly the same amount of chapters/content for the series as a whole as monthly posts would be, but still.)
I'm hoping to update SToFLO every 28th of the month from now on, so keep an eye out for the next chapter and I'll see you in about a week! Happy reading!

Is J. K. Rowling a transphobe and a blatantly ignorant human being? Of course, SHE IS! Should we mislike her for that? Indeed WE SHOULD. Can we stop taking interest in her life? Definitely WE CAN. I have done myself, and very gladly. Should we recognise that her books have a bunch of stereotypes of race, weight, human nature and sexual orientation? SURELY. I am working on writing my own story and I am making all the steps necessary to avoid making patronising and mocking tropes. Should we unfollow her after she talked shit and spread misinformation a bit Immane? YES. YES WE CAN.
But burying all her works, as if her books were the beacon of evil and spoiling of youth? No. NO. NO.
I thought we had reached a reasonable degree of media literacy not to give the “even if the author is a pos, you can still admire their work” discourse, but yes. Do what you want? Expose how bad she truly is, if you wish, that’s between you and your inner Jiminy Cricket, but you cannot go around telling people that just because they are still attached to those books they are not properly celebrating / supporting Pride? NO.
Grownups can chose what they like, men, women, both, none… Or reading the Brothers Karamazov, Harry Potter, both, none. What makes you a grownup, among other things, is that you think straight and properly, not like a whinny child. And the refusal of this thought is not fitting of a supposed grownup, but of the latter. this post is giving ✨INTOLERANCE ✨
TRANS LIVES MATTER.
QUEERS LIVES MATTER.
PEOPLE DESERVE NOT TO BE REPRESENTED BY HARMFUL STEREOTYPES. SCREW JK ROWLING AND ALL THE TERFS AND TRANSPHOBES!

#Not like Harry Potter is free of certain harmful stereotypes#but honestly this post is not alluding to said tropes#Try to cancel every good book by every author known to man because what they did in their#like Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde because he chose his capricious and treacherous lover BEFORE his beloved children and wife#like Christmas Carol but because Dickens was very much a shit towards his wife#like greek philosophy but because some famed male philosophers thought women were not as good as men#like come on#We can surely hate them for what they did#But should we hate what they wrote but not for its quality and message but by the authors cruelty or bad actions?

@ninthnocturne
Following the other to the vanity he took a moment to brush his hair and take care of his appearance. He knew it was something his master cared about. Not just his own appearance but his summons as well. He wasn’t against looking older than usual. In fact there was a certain gracefulness to the way he’d aged and if he’d still been human he was sure he’d have been quite the catch in his silver years. He adjusted his blue gilded outfit a bit he had to look his best after all. He had started to tune out the ranting after a while until he got towards the end talking about dark dabbling and unthinkable creatures. The leviathan gave Kuja a crooked if still handsome grin at that. “Oh ho someone wants me to play at being an eldritch abomination to scare the ever living shit out of her?” He laughed heartily and reached over using one finger to tip the others chin up so he could look him in the eyes. “Such a creative and beautiful master I have. How shall we pull this off then? We should make sure to do it at the proper time yes?”
Typically, Kuja would relish in such unabashed attention---yet tonight, the affectionate touch and pointed eye contact were refused with an abrupt jerk of his chin in the opposite direction, his mind far too occupied with notions of what one might consider petty---though, to Kuja, quite important within the mage’s machinations---vengeance.
“The day is approaching its inevitable close, evening thus a promised future,” he mused, still enraptured in his own monologue---nothing other than himself , his mirror's reflection, and the verbal expression of his motives present. “Upon the fresh birth of the hour of sleep, that insufferable fool shall incur a wrath fully deserved.”
At long last, his focus returned, Myde finally existing within the realm of his perception.
“The plan is that we shall return when she is snuggled so sweetly in a swaddle of her so-called safe slumbering, and you shall present yourself to her as a phantasm of fearsome force to chastise her foolishness---that she is utterly undeserving of what she had gained upon this very day, and that it should be returned thusly to its true owner.”
Here, Kuja allowed a delicate hand to sensually flourish the silken length of his hair over his shoulder, silvery threads glittering with the movement.
“Which is, obviously, myself.”
Ebon lashes lowered with glitter-adorned, heavily-hooded lids, those brilliant eyes at long last fully acknowledging his companion as he purred, “Is that understood?”

I need a new RPG forum
I've been posting at the same one for over a decade but lately have run afoul of the mods, who apparently are increasingly bored and make up for this by slapping increasingly draconian bans on stuff like "cracking a joke in response to another joke about middle management being a bit redundant" or calling a pattern of "religious group attacks" being that one time in 2016 I posted a meme about Tikaliik and got slapped with a two week ban and threats of permaban for, quote, "making group attacks on religion." Or when I bemoaned how civil servants were being cowards for following orders from a certain screamy orange man instead of abiding by their oaths I was accused of group attacks.
Note that literally every member of my family since about 1910 has worked in the public sector as a civil servant. Myself included. I think I have the right to have strong feelings on the matter of public fucking service.
Meanwhile they also ban people for flat-out made-up offenses, as in the offenses are words that they made up themselves and aren't real words. And after a flurry of bans for this new offense - that may or may not be listed in the rules - it's never used ever again. Recently they banned two long term members for, and I quote, "centering discussions on themselves" when they responded to a post by going "Well, in my experiences, [their experiences in dealing with this situation]."
But I often feel like this is the "pattern of behavior" they're describing:

Look, I don't even, broadly speaking, disagree with the mods views on plenty of things. But that's not the issue here, is it? It's this bizarre and capricious reactionary behavior combined with ominous threats. I mean, I get it. I've been a mod on a major site (and was terrible at it). But there's a thin skinned lack of ability to just roll their eyes and go "Yeah, yeah, everyone thinks they're a comedian."
Though that response would probably get a ban for group attacks for implying that people are funny, like some kind of humorous clown, like they're a ridiculous thing, like they're not worth taking seriously. Banhammered.
Which is a lot of fun when you interface with the world through sarcasm and humor and can't help but be a smartass.
So I'm about fed up. And I don't feel like going to some other forum where it's just a cesspool of "MAH FREE SPEECH MEANS I CAN BE A RACIST TRANSPHOBIC HOMOPHOBIC CUNT!"
Man, I just wanna talk about video games and D&D and science and history and politics and stuff which isn't so far up it's own ass that it's transformed into some sort of mobius, has an actual sense of humor (I mean actual sense of humor, not "LULZ triggered" hogwash), and has intelligent conversation. I'm not really much for Discords as I can't keep up with them and they're too distracting. I like forums. Maybe I'm just old, but I do.
Any advice?
#not ffxiv#forum rpg#looking for forum#looking for rpg forum#rpg#it's just so exhausting feeling like I have to walk on eggshells while dancing through a minefield#heck I've seen folks getting slapped with bans for agreeing with the Accepted View but somehow saying it in a way that wasn't proper#I've been there since 2008 and it's my homepage and I'm just exhausted of dealing with the place#there's no interest in finding a middle ground#it's just “If we ban enough people we will become PURE and we will BANHAMMER the badness out of them!”#thus you get increasingly bizarre and capricious behavior and increasingly disconnected mods#you never see the admins posting anymore and the mods are increasingly scarce#so it's this reactionary “Someone complained therefor BANHAMMER” modding#Look I don't want to make enemies here and I won't deny I can be a bit abrasive#But c'mon this is just heavy handed#advice
