Hospice Medical Care
Hospice care is broad, multidisciplinary medical care tailored specifically to the needs of people suffering with terminal illnesses: that is, an emphasis on comfort, quality of life, and symptom relief rather than cure. Several examples of types of medical care include:
Pain Management: Medications, therapies, and techniques to help dissolve pain and keep the patient as comfortable as possible. Symptom Control: This entails the relief or control of symptoms caused by the terminal illness or associated comorbid conditions such as nausea, shortness of breathing, fatigue, and anxiety.  Medication Management: It implies management of medication that reduces side effects and helps further in controlling drug interference. Focuses on relief and comfort related to symptoms. Nutritional Support: This implies guidance on nutrition and hydration that is appropriate to the needs and preferences of the patient. Feeding support, if required.
Tumblr media
Coordination of Care: Coordination with the patient's current care givers toward a collaborative care plan that respects the patient's wishes and preferences. 24/7 On-call Support: Hospice patients are entitled to access their care team at any time of day, including in emergency situations or when a new symptom begins to arise, so that they may direct and care for them appropriately. Equipment and Supplies: Availability of necessary medical equipment (such as a hospital bed and wheelchair) and supplies (like bandages and catheters) that support the care of the patient in the home. Family Support and Education: Educate families about the care of their patient, provide respite care, and offer support during bereavement after the death of the patient.
Hospice care takes place wherever the patient considers home. It can be a private residence, nursing home, assisted living facility, or hospice center where the end-of-life experience can be made as meaningful and comfortable as possible.

Sorry in advance for the rant, I’m just at a loss right now.
My dad’s dementia is really bad today. I might have to cancel my upcoming trip because if he’s acting like this with me here I can’t imagine what he’s going to be like while my brother is at work all day. I promise It’s not that I don’t want to take care of him, it seems like I can never catch a break. It also just takes a lot out of me to do so considering all the trauma he’s caused (he’s knocked out my front teeth and has se*ualized me which I later found out was due to his diagnosis) and since I’m unable to work a normal 9-5 due to my mental health not only is it hard to provide, I’m expected to be here 24/7. I just don’t know what to do.

You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup
A gentle reminder for all the moms and caregivers out there.
Mothers and caregivers are the heartbeat of homes and communities. You show up every day—cooking, cleaning, caring, supporting, holding it all together. And while that love runs deep, let’s be honest: it’s exhausting. The emotional and physical labor adds up, and often… your own needs fall to the bottom of the list.
But here’s the truth: self-care isn’t selfish. It’s survival. You matter too. Your energy, your joy, your well-being—they are not optional. They are necessary.
The Silent Weight of Caregiving Yes, caregiving is full of love. But it can also bring stress, burnout, and fatigue—the kind that builds slowly and quietly. And because it’s so often unseen or unspoken, many carry it alone.
The first step? Acknowledging that you deserve care too.
Why Self-Care Matters (More Than You Think) When you take time for yourself, even just a little, you:
Feel stronger—emotionally and physically Model self-love and boundaries for others Prevent burnout and stay more connected Build healthier relationships (starting with the one you have with yourself)
Real Self-Care Tips for Busy Days
Tiny things matter. Here’s what can help:
Take little pauses. Even 10 quiet minutes can be a game-changer.
Set boundaries. Saying “no” protects your peace.
Do something just for you. Read, stretch, create, daydream—whatever fills you up.
Let people help. Seriously. Accept the help. Ask for it.
Move, eat, hydrate. Fuel your body so it can carry you forward.
Speak kindly to yourself. You’re doing so much. Give yourself credit.
Let’s Rewrite the Story We’ve been taught that caregiving means endless sacrifice. But imagine a world where caregivers are supported, rested, and valued—not just for what they give, but for who they are.
That shift starts with us. With you.
One Last Thing You deserve rest. You deserve joy. You deserve care.
Taking care of yourself doesn’t take away from others—it enriches what you give.
So today, please remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. But you can refill it—little by little.

Unravelling the Complexity of Caregiver Burnout
Let's dispel the notion of romanticising the caregiver role and delve into the complexities that caregivers encounter daily. While it remains a noble endeavour, we must recognize the difficulties that caregivers endure to provide honest support and understanding. A challenge that  is common among caregivers is the caregiver burnout, a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion often experienced by those who provide care for others. Each caregiver's journey is unique, influenced by factors such as the nature of the caregiving role, the intensity of care required, and the duration of caregiving. Now let’s address it step by step.
Tumblr media
Caregiver burnout is more than experiencing exhaustion, it affects your overall well-being. The reason why many caregivers may not even notice that they are going through caregiver burnout is because of how consuming it can be to take care of your loved one. So if you are a caregiver, go through this list and see if it resonates with you.
Physical exhaustion:
Feeling constantly tired, lacking energy, and experiencing frequent headaches or body aches.
Emotional exhaustion:
Feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and irritable.
Mood swings and increased sensitivity are also common.
Sleep disturbances:
Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or experiencing insomnia due to worries and stress.
Changes in appetite:
Significant changes in eating habits, such as overeating or loss of appetite.
Increased anxiety and depression:
Feeling constantly on edge, experiencing racing thoughts, and feeling hopeless or sad.
Lack of focus:
Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, and remembering important details.
Neglecting personal needs:
Neglecting one's own self-care, personal interests, and hobbies.
Withdrawal from social activities:
Avoiding social interactions, isolating oneself, and feeling disconnected from friends and family.
If you find that some of the points mentioned above strike a chord with you, it's possible that you are experiencing caregiver burnout. Experiencing caregiver burnout may result from insufficient support, limited respite options, and neglecting self-care practices. So it is essential to understand that you are not to blame for experiencing these emotions and challenges. Remember that you are not alone.
Tumblr media
“I’ve given up the things I used to do for myself like swimming and singing in a choir because it felt selfish to be doing those things when everyone needs so much and I don’t really see my friends anymore because I’m always on call really. There doesn’t seem to be enough time to do everything.” says a single mum taking care of her father with dementia
Recognizing that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but a crucial step in preserving well-being and the quality of care provided to loved ones, is essential. Healing from caregiver burnout is not easy, nor is it a linear process, as coping experiences differ for every caregiver.. But some common strategies that helped caregivers are these given below.
Tumblr media
Seek Support:
Reach out to friends, family, or support groups to share your experiences and feelings.
Talking to others who have been through similar situations can be immensely comforting and validating. You can find many online support groups that may help.
Delegate Responsibilities:
It's essential to recognize that you don't have to do everything alone. Delegate tasks to other family members or consider hiring professional help to ease the burden.
Take Regular Breaks:
Schedule time for yourself to rest, engage in hobbies, or pursue activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Self-care is crucial for maintaining emotional balance.
Maintain Healthy Habits:
Prioritise proper nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep to keep your physical and emotional health in check.
Set Realistic Expectations:
Understand that you cannot control every aspect of the caregiving journey. Set realistic expectations for yourself and be gentle when things don't go as planned.
Caregiver burnout is a complex issue that requires recognition, understanding, and proactive measures. By acknowledging the experiences related to burnout, recognizing the signs and symptoms, promoting self-compassion, and implementing effective coping strategies, caregivers can prioritise their well-being while continuing to provide care for their loved ones. Remember, caregiver burnout does not define the caregiver but rather highlights the importance of self-care and support systems.
