Walking Through Empty Roads

Walking through empty roads, Searching for you in places I’ve outgrown. When I was a child, I didn’t know How memories could weigh so much, Or how silence could leave such bruises, too.

Back then, I didn’t see it— The shadows you carried, quiet and thin. I thought the world was safe for us, Too young to name the ache within.

Now I walk with pockets full Of whispers I keep repeating, Your voice that fades, though I still hear it, In every shadow, every fleeting.

I sift now through fading frames, Your smile caught in childhood light. I still talk to you in empty rooms, Still ask the same questions every night.

You linger where the house grows still, Where sunlight pools and shadows crawl. I reach for you in memories, But you don’t answer when I call.

You’re still the same—soft, aglow, Frozen in time where the picture remains. But here I stand, older now, Still calling your name.

These empty roads don’t answer back, They only stretch and pull me on, Guiding me through fields of grief, Where you are lost, but never gone.

Nothing has helped a grieving person more than knowing that they weren't the only ones going through the loss, bearing the weight of an absence that will only be filled when you yourself cross the wall between life and death. There's healing in feeling belonged. There's ease in knowing and seeing that life really does go on when a part of you falls apart.

Lean on that's why. You don't have to have someone specially made for you to cater to your needs. You can create a fairytale out of a genuine moment with a stranger, where a few kind words magically sum up everything you have failed to comprehend and bring meaning to your pain, and you finally find the strength and courage to move forward. Allow yourself to need a helping hand. Do not make healing an unattainable road for you by thinking your pain is unique. Where the intensity may vary, the nature of pain usually is shared by all. Perhaps, that's solely why the world is filled with so many people. To make us common. To make existing less lonely.

losing someone to death really shakes everything up like what do you mean they’re not here anymore? where could they have possibly gone? i can’t even say hello or i love you again and hear them say it back? fuck that. i can never catch a glimpse of them again? not even once? not even in another, say 10 years? what is this place they’re all in? why is the curfew so strict? why can’t i see them again? at least once? don’t trees die every winter but they come back in the spring. why is this bias only for humans?

i want to see my human again. at least for another minute, so i can tell them i love them and i am a fucking mess. i want to see my human again.

Hospice Medical Care

Hospice care is broad, multidisciplinary medical care tailored specifically to the needs of people suffering with terminal illnesses: that is, an emphasis on comfort, quality of life, and symptom relief rather than cure. Several examples of types of medical care include:

Pain Management: Medications, therapies, and techniques to help dissolve pain and keep the patient as comfortable as possible. Symptom Control: This entails the relief or control of symptoms caused by the terminal illness or associated comorbid conditions such as nausea, shortness of breathing, fatigue, and anxiety.  Medication Management: It implies management of medication that reduces side effects and helps further in controlling drug interference. Focuses on relief and comfort related to symptoms. Nutritional Support: This implies guidance on nutrition and hydration that is appropriate to the needs and preferences of the patient. Feeding support, if required.

Coordination of Care: Coordination with the patient's current care givers toward a collaborative care plan that respects the patient's wishes and preferences. 24/7 On-call Support: Hospice patients are entitled to access their care team at any time of day, including in emergency situations or when a new symptom begins to arise, so that they may direct and care for them appropriately. Equipment and Supplies: Availability of necessary medical equipment (such as a hospital bed and wheelchair) and supplies (like bandages and catheters) that support the care of the patient in the home. Family Support and Education: Educate families about the care of their patient, provide respite care, and offer support during bereavement after the death of the patient.

Hospice care takes place wherever the patient considers home. It can be a private residence, nursing home, assisted living facility, or hospice center where the end-of-life experience can be made as meaningful and comfortable as possible.

my grandmother is dying and im just.. waiting

it's times like this that I really feel the ache for a true village around me.

I want to be sitting vigil with family and friends, I want to help make my grandmother comfortable, light candles together, say shared words, prayers, etc. I want to sit around the fire and wait for the dawn as we take turns by her bed, and share the silence together.

instead, I'm a broke millennial who can't afford to buy a plane ticket on such short notice, or take an indefinite time off of work, so I'm just here, two states away, feeling utterly useless.

I wrote a poem for her today, and made a small shrine, but I would really appreciate suggestions for other rites/projects to honor a loved one's passing. thank you.
