carmen was seeing red as she noticed some other bitch fawning over mina. her girlfriend. and the worst part about it all was that mina didn’t seem to care. she was laughing and flirting with this groupie - one of many that seemed to show up after mina’s band performed. and although mina knew she shouldn’t entertain any of it, carmen’s jealousy took over and she found herself storming over to where the two were. she doesn’t think twice before grabbing mina’s arm and dragging her away. “who the fuck is that? did you really think you could flirt with some other whore and i wouldn’t notice?” carmen seethed, “what kind of game are you playing?” // @goldenhovr

Oz AU ⟶ After the gruesome murder of a city council member, police detain Carmen “Chico” Guerra, a local rival businessman who has also long been suspected of being a high-ranking member of the notorious gang El Norte. Detective Miguel Alvarez is brought in to assist with questioning because he and Chico have rapport; they were childhood best friends and foot soldiers in El Norte together before Miguel got on the straight and narrow. While it’s widely known that Chico hates his guts for turning blue all those years ago, that animosity isn’t the real reason Miguel is reluctant to get involved. The fact is, even though Chico was seen near the scene of the crime on the night it occurred, Miguel knows that it wasn’t Chico’s finger that pulled the trigger—it was his. It’s four in the morning help💀
I was inspired by @wawamouse yet again by saying he wanted to write a fic where Miguel was just openly attracted to Chico. Like, plain and simple. Two bros. Chillin in a hottub. You get the gist. I’m here for it and a little high so…
Miguel Alvarez and Chico Guerra in…
Crime and Punishment
Tumblr media
Fuck him. Sometimes Miguel forgot how much of a dick Chico could be. They’d been dating for a few years now. Mostly in private at first but they learned to roll with the punches. They just worked too well together to quit, even though they argued like an old married couple. Chico was in the bathroom now. Had been for the last half hour.
The blow up had been at dinner. An argument they had at least a dozen times but today was a monsoon. Every argument just came up all at once, until they were screaming at each other from across the table. Chico walked away first. He always did. And Miguel hated that he took that opportunity away from him every time. Made him angrier than the actual argument. He was seething on the couch as he waited on the bathroom. A one bedroom sounded like a great idea in the beginning; he and Guerra fucked like bunnies. But now? With Guerra hogging the only toilet in the house?
“You redecorating or some shit?” Miguel called heatedly. He heard a crash and some swearing but no screaming so he just rolled his eyes.
“Shaving. That okay with you, Princess?” Chico called back, like a taunting child. Miguel rolled his eyes yet again.
“I’d like to take a shit sometime this century.”
“Yeah? Maybe that lump of coal up your ass is finally a diamond.”
“Fuck off.”
Silence. He heard Chico fumbling with his shaving kit. He never used an electric razor on his face. Didn’t trust them. Shaved the way his brother taught him how. Miguel softened a little at the thought. He liked watching Chico shave and clean up his goatee. The man took so much pride in it. Plus it’s hot to watch your boyfriend shave. Miguel was man enough to admit that. But that’s why Chico was shaving now. He was purposely stopping Miguel from watching him. Alvarez understood how crazy that sounded, but he knew his insane boyfriend better than anyone. This is exactly the petty shit he pulls when he’s butthurt. Miguel found himself getting angry again at the thought. He knew Chico needed MUCH concentration when he shaved, so he decided to put down his book and walk to the bathroom door.
“Five. Ten. Fifteen. Twenty.”
“You’re counting now? What’re you? My mom?” Guerra called through the door with a grimace.
“Baby shark doo doo doo doo doo doo!”
“Oh, real fucking mature, Miguel.”
Miguel grinned like the bitch he was and kept going. He could hear Guerra muttering Spanish obscenities through the door.
“To sit in solemn silence on a dull dark dock in a pestilential prison with a life long lock-“
“Miguel, I’m warning you.”
Miguel just started to bang different tunes on the door to throw him off. He hated the tongue-twisters Miguel learned at the theater.
“-awaiting the sensation of a short sharp shock-“
“I’ll fucking leave you for this, you colossal bitch.”
“-from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block!”
“FUCK!” Chico reacted in pain and then there was silence. Miguel listened, the smile slowly disappearing from his face when the silence persisted.
“Chico? Yo, you okay?”
More silence. Miguel started to worry.
“Hey, Chico. Just… tap on the door if you’re okay.”
More silence. No Spanish obscenities. Miguel’s heart dropped.
“Carmen, I’m gonna break the door-“
The door swung open quick and a furious Guerra was standing there in only his boxers, a little blood dripping from his clean shaven face. It was just a nick. Chico went toe to toe with him, eyes flashing in their fury.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, cabron. That shit hurts.”
Miguel didn’t say a word, just stared at Chico, who didn’t notice his boyfriend wasn’t responding and kept berating him.
“The fuck is up with you? First you need to take a shit that’s more important than me keeping the skin on my face and now you got nothing to say?” He stormed past Miguel and went to the kitchen to pour some Tequila. Miguel followed. Chico noticed. “What? Now you gotta take a shit in the kitchen, too?”
Miguel just stared at Chico as if he was looking at him for the first time. Chico, ever the empath, just then noticed Miguel hasn’t said anything, just staring at him wide eyed. He touches his face to see if the nick was more serious than he thought, but the blood was already gone. He searched behind him for the answer.
“What?”
“You shaved.”
“Told you I was.” He retorted, back to pouring his tequila. Miguel swallows thickly.
“I thought you meant you were trimming up the goatee.” Miguel clarified, still wide eyed. Chico shifted.
“Thought I’d try something new.” He took a shot of tequila and went to pour another. There weren’t any damn limes left in the house. Two Latinos. No limes. He shook his head at the travesty and looked up to see Miguel still staring. He suddenly got very self conscious.
“You don’t like it?” He asked quietly, eyes downward at first but then looking over Miguel.
“No… I mean yes… wait what was the question?” Miguel stammered out, eyes as big as the moon. Chico furrowed his brow, before a lightbulb lit in his head. He suddenly recognized that look. The glassy eyes. The moist lips. The starstruck attitude.
“Wait… wait you like it.” He narrated out loud, sly smirk starting to form as he pounds his last shot.
“Well… I mean….” Miguel’s speech patterns were giving him away. Chico knew this well. He’d seen Miguel horny but never like this.
“No, I know that look. You like it. More than that. You like like it.” He started chuckling to himself, mind already reeling at how he could use this, the argument from hours prior already forgotten.
Miguel tried to say something but he couldn’t. He really couldn’t. He was always attracted to Guerra, but clean shaven Guerra? Man never stood a chance.
His boyfriend was looking FIT. He’d always been muscular, but damn, did he look different there, hair a mess, only in his fucking blue boxers, clean shaven face grinning at him dickishly. And those eyes. He’d made his fair share of comments to Guerra regarding his eyes, but Miguel forgot how devastatingly deep and intense they were. Especially in the throes of passion. Chico took a cocksure step towards him, almost as if he were ‘showing off the goods’ as he once phrased it.
“Miguelito likes his handsome boyfriend.” He flexes dorkily, and Miguel starts to blush and deny, waving his hand in front of him dismissively.
“Man, shut up.” But his retorts were lacking. He was just too attracted to Guerra at the moment. The caramel skin and clean jaw. The long masculine fingers and hip bones sticking out. Chico kept sauntering over to him, teasing the air around him.
“Awww… Miguelito’s embarrassed. Don’t be, baby, I know I’m that gorgeous.”
Miguel felt his ears burning as he looked anywhere but in Guerra’s direction as he brushed past the man and straight to the tequila. He poured himself a shot and took it, mentally making a note to get limes tomorrow. He felt a hot breath on his neck, and Guerra’s arms sneaking around his waist. He started to pour another shot, when he heard Chico behind him. Only, Chico’s voice wasn’t playful anymore. It was deep and gravely as he tried to whisper into Miguel’s ear, licking the lobe lovingly before doing so.
“Just tell me you didn’t have the urge to call me Daddy just then and I’ll leave you alone.”
He husked one more hot breath and nipped at the lobe as he pulled away, the bite carrying a shiver down Miguel’s spine.
All he had to do was tell Chico no. Just one no, and he might get some peace and quiet for the first time that night. All he had to do was say no. Shake his head no. Punch Chico in the throat and then leave him. Anything, except what he actually did.
He moaned.
He heard a deep chuckle behind him, and Chico said;
“That’s what I thought, Miguelito.”
He kissed the side of Miguel’s head, before picking him up and throwing him onto the counter, pulling Miguel’s head forward to trap him in a kiss, spreading his legs so that either one was on their respective side of his hips. He forced his tongue deep into Miguel’s mouth, and the man made an animalistic sound Guerra had never heard from him. The glasses clattered to the floor, and as Alvarez instinctively looked to inspect the damage, Chico took the opportunity to bite his neck, making Miguel yell in pain and pleasure. Something about his freshly shaved face gliding on Miguel’s skin was too much to bear. They broke apart, panting and sweating, staring at the other and undressing them with their eyes. But neither one moved. There was a still silence for a second, before Guerra said;
“Say it.”
“Say what?” Miguel asked, confused. Chico smirked and raised his eyebrows.
“Say it.” He repeated, that same shit eating smile on his face. Miguel suddenly understood.
“I’m not saying it.”
“Miguel-“
“With your ego? Even this reaction was too much.”
Chico put both hands on either thigh, squeezing to get his attention, and moving his head so Miguel was forced to meet his gaze, smiling the whole way.
“Just say it, man, and I promise the night of your life.”
Miguel thought for a moment and sighed.
“Can I whisper it?” He said with a head shake, understanding that he was forgoing his dignity for the night. Chico nodded happily, and Chico guided him by a hand on the back of his neck, bringing Chico’s ear up to his lips. After kissing it for a second, he tries to muster the words Guerra wanted to hear.
“Fuck me, Daddy.”
Chico growled loudly and helped Miguel off the counter, spanking his ass loudly as Alvarez made his way to the bedroom.
“Fuck you.”
Guerra responded with a loud laugh, and another smack on Miguel’s rear, letting the door slam behind him.
“Careful, Miguelito. Daddy’s home.”

task; the eulogy
location: the cemetry at woodrow house
date: sunday september 4, 2005
carmen alvarez felt like a fraud as she stood to face the crowd gathered in front of her. a sea of eyes and faces looking up at her expectantly, all warped with grief.
Tumblr media
she ought to have known that she would be expected to speak at the funeral. she was one of those closest to richard, she had lived with the man for over half of her life. in many ways she was considered his natural successor. but she didn't know how she was supposed to get up there and try put into words how much richard had done for her, and how she was forever indebted to his generosity.
the night before she had tried, in vain, to think of what to say. she had scribbled line after line but all her scraps of paper had ended up on her bedroom floor. she wanted to say thank you, but it felt wrong when she had chosen to turn away from the life he had given her. she wanted to say goodbye but she didn't feel ready yet.
"thank you all for coming today," she said, echoing the sentiments of her fellow wards. she was amazed at how steady her voice sounded, how clear and strong it carried across the rows of mourners. her years working for the woodrow foundation had taught her how to address a room, a crutch she could lean on in this moment. maybe it would be enough to see her through these agonising minutes.
one minute, maybe two, that was all she needed to get through.
"i don't think i need to tell you all what a wonderful man richard woodrow was. the fact that so many of you are here is a testament to that fact. i'm sure we'd all describe him the same way, we'd talk about his kindness, his empathy, his intelligence..." she paused, giving herself a moment to breathe, a moment to steel herself to see this through to the end.
"the story of how i came to know richard is not unique, it's much like the stories you've already heard, and will hear, from my fellow wards. but that doesn't make what richard gave me any less important, any less special. he gave me opportunities and chances i probably would never have got otherwise. he gave me the gift of a future, and for that i'm eternally grateful."
she knew this was the moment she ought to speak about the foundation, about her intentions to continue richard's legacy. she recognised a number of people in the crowd in front of her from her work and knew they were all assuming that with richard now gone, she would be stepping in to take over. but she could not lie. she couldn't tell the truth either.
her voice caught in her throat, her composure wavering at the last moment. curling her hands into fists behind her back, she let her nails press into the soft skin of her palms, the sharp pain diverting her attention from the impending wave of anguish.
"if i had the chance to speak to him one last time, i'd want to tell him that i won't waste that gift. i know what a privilege it is and i intend to honour that. even if how i use it is different to what he imagined."
she exhaled slowly, feeling her mask of calm slip as she returned to her seat. she needed to find a drink.

Immigrants helped build this country, a fact no amount of racism or xenophobia can erase. Immigrants, including children, work in fields and factories, driving our economy. A group of immigrant men were working late last Tuesday night, filling potholes on Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.
At 1:27 am, the Dali, a massive cargo vessel, 948-feet long and laden with roughly 4,700 shipping containers, lost power and rammed into the bridge, causing it to collapse. Two survived the disaster, six died. Only two of their bodies have been recovered from the cold, murky water of the Patapsco River.
Their tragic deaths occurred as increased immigrant arrivals are being exploited by former President Donald Trump and his right-wing extremist allies to foment division and to boost Trump’s presidential campaign. Just hours after the bridge collapse, FoxNews host Maria Bartiromo, interviewing Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott, attempted to link the maritime disaster to immigrants at the U.S.’ southern border:
“I want to understand the threats or the potential threats that this country is facing right now given the wide open border, the fact that we don’t know who is in the country. The FBI is looking… to ensure there was no foul play.”
“While we’re being talked about as like this invading horde that’s coming to destroy the country, what does this story actually show us? That immigrants are filling our potholes at night so that we can have a smooth drive to work in the morning.”
This is the same dog-whistle racism that Trump invoked in 2015, launching his first campaign: “When Mexico sends its people…They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” Trump continues his white supremacist ranting, saying at a recent Ohio campaign rally, “I don’t know if you call them people… These are animals and we have to stop it.”
Maximillian Alvarez, editor-in-chief of the Baltimore-based Real News Network, interviewed coworkers of the deceased. He said on theDemocracy Now! news hour, “While we’re being talked about as like this invading horde that’s coming to destroy the country, what does this story actually show us? That immigrants are filling our potholes at night so that we can have a smooth drive to work in the morning.”
The six who died while working on the Key Bridge were hardworking men, from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
Miguel Luna was a welder, a 49-year-old father and grandfather, a native of the Usulután Department in El Salvador, ravaged by the U.S.-backed Salvadoran military and paramilitaries in the 1980s. He played on the professional soccer team in the town of Berlin in his home region. His widow, Maria del Carmen, owns a food truck. Miguel was a beloved member of his community.
Miguel and another victim of the collapse, Maynor Suazo Sandoval, were members of CASA, an immigrant rights non-profit founded in 1986 to build solidarity with those impacted by the U.S.-backed violence in Central America. CASA wrote, “Maynor migrated from Honduras over 17 years ago, and he alongside his brother Carlos were active members in the activist committee of Owings Mills… Carlos said ‘He was always so full of joy, and brought so much humor to our family.’ He was a husband, and father of two.”
Details are still emerging of the other named victims, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, of Mexico and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26, of Guatemala. Their bodies were found inside a pickup truck, submerged in the river. Two more victims, also reportedly from Mexico and Guatemala, remain unnamed by their respective governments.

Their bodies were found inside a pickup truck, submerged in the river. Two more victims, also reportedly from Mexico and Guatemala, remain unnamed by their respective governments.
Millions of enslaved people also built this country, a point worth remembering as we mourn the immigrant laborers on the Key Bridge. The bridge was named after Francis Scott Key since, while watching the British navy bombard Fort McHenry in 1814, not far from where the bridge was built in the 1970s, Key wrote the poem that would become the national anthem. His poem has four stanzas, the first made famous as “The Star Spangled Banner.” Key was a slave owner, and denounced those who fled enslavement in 1814 to fight against the United States, for the British, who promised them freedom in return.
“No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,” Key wrote in his poem, words left out of the national anthem, but which nevertheless noticeably rhyme with “Land of the free and home of the brave.” This should be considered by those tasked with naming the replacement bridge.
The lives of Miguel and the five other workers have been cut short, but the hatred of immigrants, sadly, is alive, well and growing this election year. Pledges from President Joe Biden to quickly open Baltimore’s port to commerce parallel campaign rhetoric on both sides to “shut down” the southern border to people seeking asylum.
“Immigrants like Miguel are building bridges to connect communities, not building walls to divide them,” CASA wrote, eulogizing Miguel Luna. Let those words inspire an embrace of immigrant communities, an anthem we can all rally around.

Hi! I'm Finch! I'm a writer of fiction, primarily queer fantasy. I'll post things I've written here, but I also reblog a lot of tips, resources, and other people's work! I am more than open to tag games as long as you are open to me forgetting about them and posting them late, haha.
Here's a rundown of my main WIPs:
Project: The Rubicon, est. 2012
modern urban fantasy, supernatural, horror elements
Peter Alvarez leaves New York for the South in search of the best friend who he thought committed suicide years ago. What he finds instead is more than he bargained for: a landlord who befriends him in unexpected ways, a coworker who hates him on sight for no reason, a boss who gives him more chances than he deserves, and the ghost that brought them all together.
Peter Alvarez, 26, he/him, lost in life since his best friend died, dependent on everyone around him as he refuses to move on.
Carmen Oliveira, 24, she/her, a barista at the cafe Peter begins to work at, nice to everyone but him for reasons he doesn't understand.
Chase Greenwood, 27, he/him, owner of the small cafe they work at, willing to help but not to get too close.
Elliot Bingham, 27, he/him, high school friend of Chase and Peter's landlord, contains multitudes.
Noah Bryant, 19 now then and forever, a ghost
Project: The Stewniverse, est. 2019
high fantasy original setting
Stewie has a wonderful family, a stable lifestyle in the town he grew up in, and should have no complaints… and yet, he’s always been anxious and restless and could never understand why. After a close encounter with life-threatening danger, his mother, a retired adventurer, finally relents and passes on her sword to him. Stewie sets off to solve all the problems of the world that he possibly can with nothing more than his mother’s sword and his loyal horse, Ser Decadence. Along the way he finds companions he never expected, along with a mystery that only seems to get more twisted and complicated the more clues they find.
Steward Knight, 19, he/him, human, the anxious son of a retired adventurer who wants to fix the world in the hopes that it will fix him.
Kieran, 26, he/him, a mysterious half-elven man with an even more mysterious quest: to help fae wherever he finds them. He seems to resent this, but does it all the same.
Rishi, 22, she/her, an elven student of magic at the most prestigious arcane college on the continent, unable (or unwilling?) to cast any spells.
Evelyn, 20, he/they, Kieran’s half-elven younger brother who is set on killing Kieran for a crime he won’t specify and who claims he is prevented from doing this only by the fact that he cares about Stewie and Stewie cares about Kieran.
Ashe, around his mid to late 20s in mortal years, he/it, a kelpie who has attached himself to Kieran and Stewie for reasons unknown and has vowed to never leave their side.
Lottie, 23, she/her, a human bard, accomplished heartbreaker,  and lover of animals who grew up with Kieran and Evelyn and is constantly putting her own problems aside to mediate between the two conflicting brothers.
Selkies is a short story I wrote for a fiction class
The Pale Demon of Hollowbrook is a chapter excerpt from either NaNo 20 or NaNo 22.
Project: Lilywood, est. 2022
modern urban fantasy, supernatural, horror elements
a haunted house time travel mystery
Canary has never felt like she belongs anywhere, even in her hometown of Lilywood, the town that accepts all stragglers, outcasts, and loners. Her only friends are fellow burnouts Ryan Shuck and Jamie Yamashita. When construction on the historic manor at the heart of Lilywood goes awry, they are pulled into a supernatural mystery surrounding the house that spans across centuries, hoping that it will answer the burning question each of them have had their whole life: who am I?
Canary Spencer, 21, she/they, a deeply insecure young adult trying to figure out who she is and how to be comfortable with being true to herself while exploring a house haunted by time.
Ryan Shuck, 23, he/they, an avoidant young adult who feels trapped by his circumstances and is scared of things changing even as his previously normal and ordinary life begins to turn upside down around him.
Jamie Yamashita, 25, he/him, a loud and cocky young man who rushes headfirst into the mystery of Lilywood Manor with more confidence than is warranted for someone who has no experience with the supernatural.
Project: Forget Me Not, est. 2024
modern vampire fantasy, romance, horror elements
a human afraid of dying and a vampire who would rather die than live forever
chronic illness, dementia, death, grief, dysphoria
Dana Hardy, 26, he/him, a young adult who has been terrified of aging ever since he watched his grandfather succumb to dementia and death. He learned about the understudied progressive illness Vampirism and is obsessed with contracting it
Wade Cameron, 24, he/him, a young trans man who has recently been diagnosed with vampirism. He's horrified at the thought that his body will stay the same forever and he'll never change or die. He wants nothing more than to find a cure.

Her creators didn’t specify her ethnicity but I do think she’s Hispanic. And given the darker skintone of her “mother”, she’s most likely Afro-Latina. I know in recent comic adaptation portray her with way lighter skin tone but her ORIGINAL appearance shows her with DARKER skintone (thought not as dark as her “mother”). As such, I have seen Laura as half white and half Afro Latina but the Hispanic nationality is unknown. Also, as a side note, her creators also mentioned they planned to do a LGBT storyline with Laura but it was axed. So, she’s also LGBT.
