Hundreds of pilots from Air Canada gathered for an informational picket on Saturday, calling for better working conditions and higher wages.  The pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), voiced their concerns about the winter route cuts announced by Air Canada in August that included multiple direct routes from Calgary, such as Ottawa, Halifax, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Cancun and Frankfurt. "This country is vast, and it requires a sustainable aviation network. Some of the network contractions we've seen within the Air Canada network concerns us. It's also a concern for Canadians who are losing these services," said Charlene Hudy, chair of the Air Canada Master Elected Council in a release. "We must achieve a stable pipeline of pilots in Canada, flowing through Air Canada and staying here, and to do so, Air Canada has to compensate pilots appropriately."

Immortal Hulk: queerness, duality

Re-reading Immortal Hulk for my master's thesis and, like. This thing is so queer on every level.

And I'm not talking just about the openly queer characters (Charlene McGowan you'll always be famous), it's more about how Ewing's general obsession with breaking the illusion of duality in his comics sinks in in a way it hadn't when I first read this thing, before transitioning.

Banner is neither man nor monster; he's both. Gamma is neither a wave nor a particle; it's an emanation. It reminds me of Ewing's rejection of Loki being a single immutable entity in Agent of Asgard and canonizing their gender fluidity to make sense of their different identities in a way that's satisfying to both the reader and the character. Ewing is all about breaking the limits and looking further, because staring at the same two things for too long is just going to lead you back to where you started. It's an ouroboros.

The idea that things are only categorized as they are because of the limited scope of the human mind and the fact that this comic's cast is largely made of dysfunctional, peripheric characters who are forced to choose between survival and morality blend seamlessly in very profound ways. Very queer ways.

And this is not on accident; Ewing tends to play around and introduce trans and nonbinary characters in his stories in the same way that he keeps playing with the limits of the Marvel canon. It's like he sees queerness as something logical and inevitable, something that breaks the limits of what was previously established because what was previously established was undeniably limited and single-minded. Limits are not natural, duality is not natural. Seeing past both and looking beyond, however, is.

I finished “The Librarians”, y’all. What do I do now? 😱

Maybe it’s time for a “Leverage” rewatch. That show is perfection.

A few thoughts first:

1. I weirdly enjoyed the shorter seasons. I felt like the show was more focused.

2. Jenkins. I just adored him. It is by far my favorite role with John Larroquette. The scene where he’s a D&D Dungeon Master was a thing of beauty.

3. I love Eve’s maternal vibes.

4. Love love loved Ezekiel’s character development. The looper episode broke me.

5. The ships, but also… not? I totally ship Jacob and Cassandra, but also Jenkins and Cassandra, and yet… I really liked how they just… were. I love a good platonic relationship just as much.

6. Judson and Charlene.

7. The series finale. I don’t know if they knew the show was ending or not, but this was one of the best series finales I have ever seen. Just beautiful.

I told my husband this show gave me “SeaQuest” vibes: a great cast of characters, episodes that almost always ended on a happy note, and just a feel good vibe when I watched it. A great comfort show. I adore “Leverage”, too, so it was meant to be.

If you haven’t seen “The Librarians” it is currently streaming on Freevee. I will definitely be purchasing this one.
