You can't do that with AI!
In my dreams, I imagine near perfect pictures and sounds that can never and will never be matched unless you were somehow just rich and powerful enough to order them be made into existence. It's for that reason that I fully understand the tinker-tinks behind AI technology fiddling with vocals to make something new, as we all do with video and audio mixing, but a) that doesn't make it ethical, and b) it still doesn't compare to perfect visions and whispers of ideas that exist only in our head if you're given a prompt---
for example, in my dream I was watching Katy Towell's The Little Girl who was Forgotten by Absolutely Everyone short
youtube
but instead of Tim Jones narrating it was being voice acted by Mathew Rhys, the voice of Emperor Belos from The Owl House.
No offense to Tim, he's still great, but holy moly Emperor Belos narrating Children r Skary was a matchmade in spooky heaven and one of the few good things I've ever dreamed about.
youtube
OF COURSE, only in MY DREAMS was one of the better things I've dreamed about also about horror but you can't do that now can you AI now can you??

things I’m trying to emulate in this book:
being sixteen and staying up too late and listening to Emile Autumn’s “Shalott” on YouTube and not knowing how to think or feel and kind of hating it at first because music isn’t supposed to sound like that but then having the same song stuck on loop in your head all the next day at school
lying on your back in your room, staring up at the ceiling, going over the plot details of movies and books a thousand times to tweak them and polish them and make them more emotionally satisfying
Pyramid Collection catalogues
the little gift booklets sent out by The Noble Collection before they went mass-market
digging through used CDs in thrift stores looking for something good and finding anime OSTs and Rasputina’s Great American Gingerbread
teen fantasy books that nobody else cared about or knew about at the library in the era before YA was a genre
[most obviously drawn from children’s series here]
watching Labyrinth for the first time and being lost in a fever dream of glitter and tulle and hairspray
90s urban fantasy romance novels that felt like spicier versions of Charmed or Buffy with spirited Strong Women Who Fight and werewolves and faeries all crammed together
falling in love with a culture that took yours over long before you were born, speaking their words as your mother tongue, seeing the good and the bad and the mediocre rolled all together, being pulled in more directions than you can count and trying to make it make sense when it can’t and won’t
the Hall of Plants at the Field Museum, the models and dioramas and displays made decades before you lived, each handwritten, dead and alive and never-living simultaneously
one particular cash-only bookshop in the town where I went to school that was so full of books you couldn’t turn around without knocking a stack over that had two stories linked by a rickety spiral staircase and was full of skeleton-faced teddy bears
whimsigoth, dark cabaret, faerie goth, neo-Victoriana, lace and ripped fishnets and striped corsets and electric stringed instruments
whatever the specific emotion associated with Birthday Massacre albums is
magic, but real magic
standing alone in a quiet cathedral with the sound echoing off every piece of stone
visiting an asylum and standing in the operating theater and knowing you could have been there a century ago
the art from Children R Skary videos
so if that feels worth reading, follow me here i guess?

Once upon a time, there was a little girl... no that isn’t quite right, You see, it wasn’t just any time, and this wasn’t just any little girl. This story is about Emmeline.
Like a ghost in the night Emmeline and her creation vanished from the world. Echoes of her presence linger on very dark nights, but Emmeline is gone. Emmiline left the world on a wish, A wish on the same star that brought Mr. Creazil to her, and with no destination in mind the star sent her somewhere else.
When Emmeline awoke she was in the same void that all beings that flicker out of existence go to, like all who fall into the void Emmeline experienced all of creation at once, her little mind reeling at the different worlds that would pass her by in an instant. In the non-physical realm of the void she came apart, the despair and confusion splitting her at the seams.
However, unlike any before or after her, she was not alone.
Mr. Creazil was there with her. And while he couldn’t love her on his own, as he was only created to be her companion, he did care for her. In the calculated way that a longtime babysitter cares about the infant they watch over. Mr. Creazil understood that Emmeline was his creator, and more importantly that he exists as a piece of her. Mr. Creazil was never one much for physical affection, but when Emmeline began to fall apart, her skin growing paler and her eyes turning black, he hugged her tight, his clawed hands wrapping around her shoulders and his soft white head nuzzled into her neck.
And while he did save Emmeline, they could never separate again. parts of his body were incorporated into Emmeline’s malleable physical form, turning her into a strange amalgamation of the both of them. However Emmeline’s mind and behaviors remained her own. Mr. Creazil couldn’t love her on his own, but he was made to watch over her. And that included keeping her safe. Now, with hooves to scratch, wings to fly, horns to attack, and fur to keep her warm, he truly has succeeded in his purpose.
And it is here, Emmeline being alone again, and very much afraid, that she meets an older child named Chara.
I’d argue Emmeline’s story is one of the saddest that Katy Towell ever made, but at the very least the ending lends her to my cause.

You have some rly good art in general but I noticed your horror stuff especially has a certain flair to them and I was wondering if you've ever seen Katy towell's stuff? She does horror short stories / poems / etc and animates them, she has a youtube channel. She also wrote a children's book but idk your stuff reminds me of hers a little
ooohhh shit dude Childrin R Skary used to be my jam back in my Newgrounds phase
that’s really interesting that you say that, because i watched a lot of Katy Towell’s stuff back then but i never really considered it an influence, but i see where you’re coming from
thanks for the nice ask!

Did anyone else watch Katy Towell’s children r skary cartoons? Like I forgot that that was probably like my first inspiration for animation and like wanting to do that kind of thing. I recently went back to it and honestly I still like her art style.

This is one of the best poems by Katy Towell! She is the author of the book series "Children R Skary" (spelled correctly). This will give you the chills for sure!
