A Word to Describe a Boastful Person: Thrasonical
Have you ever encountered someone who brags excessively about their accomplishments? If so, then you have met a thrasonical person. The word "thrasonical" is derived from the character Thraso in the ancient Greek play "Eunuchus" by Terence, who was known for his boastful behavior.
Thrasonical people are characterized by their excessive bragging and boasting. They love to talk about their achievements, wealth, and success to make themselves look better than others. Here's an example sentence to showcase a thrasonical person's behavior:
"He was so thrasonical that he claimed to have personally taught Leonardo da Vinci how to paint."
The term "thrasonical" has been used in English literature since the 16th and 17th centuries to describe boastful and arrogant characters. In modern times, it's still used to describe people who are overly boastful.
An example of a thrasonical character can be seen in the anime series "Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army." The character Gashita starts off as thrasonical but changes as the story progresses, growing as a person and learning the importance of humility.
In conclusion, the word "thrasonical" is a rich and humorous term that refers to people who are excessively boastful and love to show off their accomplishments. So next time you encounter a thrasonical person, just remember to use the word to describe their behavior in a comedic yet precise manner. And always keep in mind that true success lies in being grounded and humble.

Isekai stories don't just have to be about a teenage boy's overpowered fantasy wish fulfillment. They could also be for young men trapped in capitalism's clutches, overworked and underappreciated, wishing to live a simpler fantasy life with overpowered abilities and a powerful, big-boobed girl at his side.
Here's a few I've watched lately.
Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside: A competent assistant to his hero little sister's party, Red is now living under an alias as a apothecary. The world's magic system of "Blessings" was interesting, but the bulk of the screen time is devoted to the romance between Red and his big-boobed girl, Rit. After a while, I grew very tired of the romance nonsense and the highlight dots on Rit's boobs...

Chillin’ in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army: A competent assistant to the four demon generals fired after a change of leadership, Dariel starts his new life helping the people who saved him at his lowest. Tomokazu Sugita voices Dariel, so in my mind, Dariel is a slightly less lazy, slightly less perverted Gintoki, and that alone makes this worth watching for a bit. Plus the story's comedic take on its romance and its more even balance between plot/action and slice-of-life fun makes Chillin' ten times better than the molasses that was Banished. Also, the animators showed some restraint by limiting their use of boob highlight dots, which I appreciate.
Tumblr media
Handyman Saitou in Another World: After being fired and getting isekai'd by a truck, a competent jack-of-all-trades joins an adventurer party as their support thief. Saitou desires to be appreciated, and his new friends not only appreciate his lock-picking and general gear-making skills but also his kind heart. The story is first presented in a series of vignettes (I wouldn't be surprised if the manga was mostly a series of 4-panel bits), and the cast is full of unique roleplaying builds and characters. It's enjoyable so far, apart from the really trashy bits.
Tumblr media
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill: After getting caught in a summoning circle meant for three teenagers, 27-year-old salaryman Mukouda decides to not get involved in all that and to explore this new world as an average traveling merchant. As an isekai'd 'hero', he has the special skill of being able to buy anything from Aeon's online shop (with free instant shipping!). Apart from the sponsors and the over-reliance on sauces and just-add-water soups (all that salt!), a simple food-porn-based show isn't the worst thing. Also, instead of a big-boobed girlfriend, he gets a fenrir and the cutest baby slime. Is that a bonus?

Chillin’ In My 30’s After Getting Fired From The Demon King’s Army (or whatevs) is an anime that surprised me in a good way this season. It starts out feeling generic, but it’s got REALLY good pacing, and it’s fun and relaxing.

Anime of the Day: Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army
Tumblr media
Alt title: Kaiko sareta Ankoku Heishi (30-dai) no Slow na Second Life
Released: 2023
Dariel is the reason the Demon King’s army is working. However, he doesn’t have “magical potential”, so Bashbarza, a recently appointed general, evicts Dariel from the army. Oh boy was that a mistake, but not for Dariel. He ends up saving Malika from a monster, being welcomed to her village, discovers that he is actually a human and not a demon, and settles into a normal happy life. The demon army on the other hand is struggling… And they want him back… I wonder what lengths they will go to, to get him back.

Chillin' in My 30s After Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army was a fun little show. The animation was wonky and lacking at times, but I can look past it. It sits in the same space in my mind as Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity in a similar regard. And I’m always a fan of protagonists who would rather deescalate a situation than simply throw down.
