#Chris Hemsworth Thor Love And Thunder Box office

From the original British GQ article:
Everyone’s a critic these days. Even Hemsworth’s kids’ friends were in on it with his most recent Marvel offering, Thor: Love and Thunder. They didn’t hold back. “It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humour, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good,’” he recalls. “I cringe and laugh equally at it.” Released in 2022, Love and Thunder was a hit at the box office but received mixed reviews from the (grown-up) critics. “I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly,” reflects Hemsworth. He pauses. “It’s always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”

||. "Thor: The Dark World" (Thor 2) was a financial success, well-received by everyone who isn't part of the toxic Loki!Fandom and is absolute peak Thor content and I can prove it.
I've done extensive research on the critical and box office success of the Thor franchise and in this research I discovered the following:
Financial Success:
On average, each film of the THOR franchise grossed about 3.75x the production budget of each film, altogether.
Thor: Love and Thunder and Thor (2011) both made ~3.0x their production budget
Thor: The Dark World did 4.3x better
Thor: Ragnarok only did 4.7
This actually means that, adjusting this scale for inflation between 2011-2017, AND for Thor's popularity after his first debut, Thor actually makes consistent money. Thor: Ragnarok is actually on average with the rest of Thor's films, INCLUDING Thor (2011), so despite all of the YouTube critics lording it as the best thing ever because Tai.ka Wa.i.ti.ti wrote it, the fact of the matter is Gagnarok is just... 'a good Thor Movie' just the same as ALL the rest of them. (Which is actually, technically, bad, because it threw away everything about him and we saw how well that turned out in Endgame's cinematography/framing and L+T. Nobody appreciates it.)
Critically Well-Received:
If you chronologically search for reviews of Thor: The Dark World and actually read most reviews, while Dark World wasn't a box office smashing success, it was generally well received by the public (until the loki fans ruined it.), and any critiques that were given were valid ones, or directed towards the film editors since the THOR films usually have a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of time.
you can read some reviews here:
SlashFilms / Oct 22nd, 2013
Never Been Better / Nov 8th, 2013
RoboHeartBeat / Nov 8th, 2013
Slice of SciFi / Nov 8th, 2013
AIPT Comics / Nov 8th, 2013
Ajaydsouza / Nov 12th, 2013
AustinChronicle / Nov 8th, 2013
The Providence Journal / Nov 7th, 2013
People saying that it's "the worst Thor Film of all time" or that it was 'boring' are generally people who, I kid you not, wanted Tom Hiddleston to write the next Thor Movie, only went to watch the film for Loki/because Loki was in it, and otherwise complained about him "not having a lot of screen time" despite being a secondary character on par with Jane Foster. (Which, I understand that Loki is popular, and I think he's lovely and that Tom is a wonderful actor and we're absolutely blessed to have him and Chris Hemsworth in their respective roles, especially together – but Loki isn't the main character and he isn't supposed to be.)
Peak Thor Content
In this singular movie alone we get:
Absolutely the best character design for Thor out of all his appearances even up til now.
A sleek armor design
Chris' REAL HAIR being used instead of a wig (it's so pretty!)
even a better, more flowing cape design that was a real cape!! Not CGI like in Thor: Gagnarok!
The Entire Poncho Look
EXTREMELY complex and interesting dynamics with his entire family (Jane is included as part of the family.)
Tumblr media
With Odin, he's subservient to a worrying degree, but still willing to rebel against him, even if that could mean banishment or being public enemy no.1 whilst his father is deranged.
Tumblr media
Frigga as always is generally complicated, but they get along well enough, and she accepts Jane into the family immediately, and Thor thinks highly of her, even if he doesn't know her so well.
Tumblr media
Loki's primarily in the Asgardian dungeons, but despite this, because he is in the back of Thor's mind even when Loki is away, the audience is CONSTANTLY thinking about Loki too. His presence is felt everywhere, and when the two brothers finally reunite on screen, it's after a year of separation and festering betrayal of their bond. Loki's redemption moment is in this film. ("Trust my rage") and it's probably one of the BEST brodinson moments of the entire series by far. Loki also spends most of his time outside of prison just trying to get Thor to break out of his apathy, which is nice.
Tumblr media
And Jane and Thor are positively sweet! Their chemistry together is off the charts and so utterly wholesome. He perks up almost instantly when she finds her way back into his life, and I love that she actually helps him defeat the main villain, Malekith, with her science inventions. (2011-2015 jane foster is peak jane foster). I also think it's worth noting that the tone for their relationship is pretty clearly set in this film. He's a protector, she follows his lead, but he relies on her to keep him in check and assist him whenever she is able. They're great rulers together!
He has a subtle, sassy humour that oozes out of him in every scene where it's applicable for him to be a bit funny. Some of my favorites include:
Tumblr media
Sif: I had this under control!
Tumblr media
Thor: (smiling) Is that why everything is on fire?
Tumblr media
Thor: (GETS BOMB-RUSHED BY A BRUTE IMMEDIATELY)
Tumblr media
Thor: Hello. Brute: (ROARS IN HIS FACE)
Tumblr media
Thor: I accept your surrender. Maurader Crowd: (CHEERS AND JEERS) Thor: (laughs silently. DESTROYS THE BRUTE IN ONE SWING.)
Tumblr media
Thor: Thor:
Tumblr media
Thor: Anyone else?
Tumblr media
Loki: At least furnish me with a weapon. My daggers. Something!
Tumblr media
Thor: (begrudgingly looks at him.)
Loki: (smiles)
Tumblr media
Thor: (acquiesces)
Tumblr media
Loki: At last! Common sense—....
Tumblr media
literally this entire face
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thor: And I thought you liked tricks. (wiggles his whole body happily as he walks away laughing)
and also the ENTIRE space ship scene between him and loki. Not gonna cap that one past this but:
Tumblr media
L: No don't hit the buttons press them. Gently. T: I AM ""presSING THem gENtLy"" it's nOT WORKING >:T
L: I think you missed a column. T: Shut up.
L: Congratulations! You just decapitated your grandfather.
L: Maybe I should try flying. :T I'm clearly the better pilot. T: Really? Well, between the two of us, which one can actually fly?
I COULD GO ON but i'll leave it here...for now..

Thor: Love and Thunder,                             Watched it yesterday. It was good but it definitely was not the best Thor movie! I loved the goats! I loved Thor “Naked” in front of Zeus! Love that Thor and Jane got back together and finally admitted, their love for each other! It was sad Jane died, thou! The movie did well at the box office. It had mixed reviews. In a recent interview with British GQ Chris Hemsworth mentioned that Love and Thunder could of been better and kind of blamed Marvel and director Taika Waititi for the film not being as good as it could of been! When entertainment critics heard that, it was it over YouTube! Not just critical of Thor: Love and Thunder, but how Marvel seems to have lost its way. Chris Evans is gone. Robert Downey Jr. is gone from Marvel. So is Scarlet Johanson. Dave Bautista has said he won’t play, Draz, again. On top of that we lost Chadwick Boseman in 2020 to cancer!  It sounds like Chris Hemsworth is not under contract with Marvel, at this time. We don’t know if Thor will be back! We’ll see! I just wished Love and Thunder was better! Taika Waititi, as Korg, was, at times, overdone! I know Waititi, helped write the story. They tried too hard to be funny, at times. At times, with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt’s Star Lord, was, lame! I did love the technology, they used in the movie! I loved Thor and Janes’s costumes! The fight scenes were, good. I loved that Thor became Gorr’s daughter step-father! I loved the last scene! I know Love was played by his daughter India! They scene was so cute! I loved she shot lasers out of her eyes at him and painted up Thor’s hammer! Yes, Thor: Love and Thunder sucked, compared to the other ones! Disappointed in Marvel!

US box office: Thor 4 drops but remains in the lead
US box office: Thor 4 drops but remains in the lead
And Top Gun is still in the top 5! (source: French Film) She Thor: Love and Thunder signed the best start to the saga, with $ 143 million in revenue, Taika Waititi’s film is now ready for its second weekend of exploitation. In fact, it still dominates the rankings, with no novelty capable of competing with it, and still pockets 46 million, but that represents a 68% drop, one of the worst in MCU…

After it’s opening weekend of “Thor Love and Thunder”, producer Kevin Feige, director Taika Waititi, Star star Chris Hemsworth must have celebrated by planning how to spend their profit points on the movie. But maybe they should celebrate too much and not spend those dollars in advance.
There are signs that that Thor’s 4th film is wobbly and perhaps there’s problems with Marvel’s approach to Phase 4. First there’s that 68% score at Rotten Tomatoes - the THIRD LOWEST of all MCU Movies (only “Thor Dark World” and “Eternals” got worse reviews).
Entertainment Weekly described TLAT as a “cheerful melee of… in-jokes, and Cliffs-Notes mythology, feels a lot like franchise fatigue”.
Rolling Stone said it’s “a mess due to the collision of competing tones, subplots… and chaos masquerading as pathos".
Sure, it made $144 million on its opening weekend BUT it also had a 68% DROP in Ticket sales on its second weekend. That’s one of the biggest drops in revenue of all MCU movies. It’s even worse on a Friday to Friday comparison - a 80% drop! BTW, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has a 67% drop in ticket sales on its second weekend.
This all suggests audiences are not willing to see every Marvel movie in the pipeline. A problem in the long run for both the House of Mouse and the House that Stan Built.
I didn’t love the movie… and while Hemsworth has a natural affinity for comedy, Waititi and TLAT turned Thor into a buffoon. It was hard to take Jane Foster’s cancer seriously when Thor is doing the splits and yucking it up in the rest of the movie.
I’ve already given up on the Disney+ Marvel series. And I’m not sure I’ll be seeing the rest of the Phase 4 slate.

Ha, hah! Thor: Love and Thunder plunges 80% at the box office. GOOD.
Tumblr media
I know I’m a spiteful bitch, but fuck them. Taika Waititi may be an “irreverent, amusing little scamp” but he’s also a fucking asshole who tormented Tom all through shooting Ragnarok. And Chris Hemsworth was no better: he did nothing to stop the harassment and might have joined in. Regardless, it destroyed Tom’s friendship with Chris. (There’s an especially unpleasant scene in the Ragnarok outtakes where that dipshit Taika puts on Loki’s helmet and dances around Tom sing-songing “You’re replaced as Loooki, you’re replaced!” Tom turns his head away the entire time with a grim expression. And that’s a ‘hilarious’ outtake? Fuck off.) Waititi and Hemsworth were relentlessly and gleefully spiteful in their comments about “Loki is dead, why would we want him?” during promotion for this shitheap. (Although I am deeply satisfied that it appears nearly every journalist asked them about Loki. HAHAHAHAHAHA!) This is the third worst second week box office drop in Marvel history.
The Forbes reporter says this: “Thor 4 could be Taika Waititi’s Batman & Robin, in terms of “saving” the franchise with a lighter, more comic entry, only to go way too far even with general moviegoers with the follow-up.” Remember the terrible Batman and Robin? It tanked the Batman franchise for ten years before they rebooted it, only to flop again with Ben Affleck.
Sure, I’m mean-spirited and vengeful, but I can’t stand to see these fuckfaces succeed after they treated Tom so badly. They were responsible (partially, TayTay was the other half) of Tom’s abrupt retreat from film and TV for years, and his general standoffishness now with his fanbase.
Suck it Thor 4! SUCK! IT!

The Version of Thor: The Dark World We Never Saw
https://ift.tt/3lV18qp
While Thor: The Dark World would not be accurately labeled as a dud, the 2013 sequel to 2011’s crucial early Marvel Cinematic Universe offering is nevertheless not widely regarded as a high point in the annals of the interminably lucrative franchise. Sure, its $644 million global gross surpassed its esteemed predecessor’s $449 million, but the film itself is generally seen as a morose movie experiment hampered by an awkwardly-paced plot, and its dominant setting of Asgard and the celestial realms bored the popcorn crowd. Yet, the film was apparently the byproduct of lofty concepts that were subsequently butchered by Marvel, claims director Alan Taylor, who has revealed intriguing details on his unfettered version of the film.
At the time, the selection of Alan Taylor as director for Thor: The Dark World was an auspicious sign. While film was never his primary medium, he had worked on some of the hottest dramatic television properties in recent years in HBO’s The Sopranos and AMC’s Mad Men, and, most notably, was a key director for the hottest show of the era, HBO’s Game of Thrones. Indeed, the American helmer, Taylor, was an intriguing fit, especially after the majestic movie template was set in the previous film by legendary Shakespearean stalwart Kenneth Branagh. Thusly, Taylor—working off a script by Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely—was tasked with evolving the Norse-inspired Marvel Comics mythos while injecting his own brand of introspective drama. Unfortunately, in a familiar-sounding tale, the final product—lucrative as it may have been—fell short of what he had in mind. Now, in a THR interview, the director drops the term, “Taylor Cut,” revealing his real vision.
“The version I had started off with had more childlike wonder; there was this imagery of children, which started the whole thing,” explains Taylor. “There was a slightly more magical quality. There was weird stuff going on back on Earth because of the convergence that allowed for some of these magical realism things. And there were major plot differences that were inverted in the cutting room and with additional photography — people [such as Loki] who had died were not dead, people who had broken up were back together again. I think I would like my version.”
Marvel Studios
While it’s difficult to gauge the extent of the differences the Taylor Cut would bring based on what is vaguely described, it does seem that the director had originally planned to lean into the mythology’s more magical side. Contextually, the plot of the film we did get centered on the fractured relationship between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) against the backdrop of an insidious plot by Dark Elf Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) to destroy Asgard (and, by proxy, Earth), that will require the help of an incarcerated, post-Avengers (non-variant) Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to repel. The film’s setting is mainly set amongst the majesty of Asgard, although it occasionally grounds itself back on Earth with a side story in which returnees Dr. Eric Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) attempt to deal with the implications of Malekith’s plot centered on portals over in London. However, barring a few mirthful moments, notably with Jane’s awkward Asgardian “meet the parents” scenes, the sequel demonstrably lacked its predecessor’s heart and humor, and instead played out a perfunctory battle against a generic threat. In essence, it was a somewhat-entertaining but forgettable affair.

Taylor didn’t exactly name names when it came to who fumbled the execution for The Dark World, but he does seem to attribute it to a loss of control by external studio forces. Indeed, he indirectly implies this notion when bestowing praise to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and his directorial successor on the Thor franchise, Taika Waititi, stating, “I really admire the skill set of somebody who can go in with a very personal vision—like Taika Waititi or James Gunn—and manage to combine it with the big corporate demands. I think my skill set may be different.” However, perhaps in a moment of self-doubt, Taylor also suggests that another writer/director might have been able to salvage the film. Pertinent to that point, Taylor had unwittingly jumped into a quagmire when he took the film, since it was already tainted by the disappointing exit of Monster (and eventual Wonder Woman) director Patty Jenkins, who had long been sized up by prognosticators for a comic book movie. Yet, Jenkins herself was quoted in a 2020 interview stating, “I did not believe that I could make a good movie out of the script that they were planning on doing. It would have looked like it was my fault.”
While Taylor should not be ashamed of Thor: The Dark World’s aggregate presentation, he also confesses that it was one of two movie projects—successive ones, no less—that really left him doubting his own abilities. The other, of course, was his next big franchise attempt, 2015’s Terminator Genisys, which, from the standpoint of self-esteem, put him at rock bottom. “I had lost the will to make movies,” he laments. “I lost the will to live as a director. I’m not blaming any person for that. The process was not good for me. So, I came out of it having to rediscover the joy of filmmaking.”
In another initially auspicious scenario, Taylor corralled his Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke, making the Mother of Dragons into the Mother of the Future, Sarah Connor, whose traditional timeline was altered in her very childhood by the arrival of yet another T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who served as a de facto father and prepared her for the upcoming apocalypse. Thusly, the arrival of the first film’s Terminator in 1984 left her traditional time-traveling protector, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), rather redundant against an evolved array of time-traveling threats. That film—which would be widely panned—could not even contrast its bad reviews with the status of box office hit, although international audiences helped push its anemic $89 million domestic take to a global gross of $440 million. Yet, as if that wasn’t enough, Taylor’s Terminator take would be quickly retconned yet again just four years later with 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, which definitively flopped.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Thankfully, Taylor is well out of that rut, and is coming back to the feature table in a familiar fuggedaboutit milieu, The Sopranos, for HBO’s upcoming prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark, which is currently scheduled for a day-and-date release at theaters and HBO Max on October 1. And as for the “Taylor Cut” that he so provocatively put forward, we probably shouldn’t expect Marvel to acquiesce on that notion anytime soon, intriguing as it may sound. On another note, the Waititi-directed fourth film, Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for May 6.
