April 20, 2025

Allison sat next to Luke on the bus to the Hurricanes rink.

Luke and Allison had a facetime with Quinn and Jack before they left for the rink for their first playoffs game.

Jack, was in New Jersey, Quinn was finishing up in Vancouver and would be in New Jersey by game three when Luke and Allison are back. Ellen and Jim would be in New Jersey by game three as well.

This is technically Luke’s second playoffs but this time felt a lot more real for him playing the whole season before and it made it more special playing with Allison, they were both disappointed to not be playing with Jack in the playoffs especially knowing how much Jack wanted to play in playoffs.

Luke gave Allison a small nudge as the bus stopped and she gave him a soft smirk in return as they stood up.

Allison slipped her black sunglasses on as she followed Timo off the bus with Luke right next to her as they walked into the Hurricanes arena.

Allison headed to her stall that was still in between Jesper and Timo and with Jack not playing Nico has been next to Jesper.

She took off her red blazer tossing it into her stall as she plopped down in her stall and she went on a her phone for a few minutes reading a few more good luck texts for her first ever playoff goals.

Allison snickered at Jack’s text and let out a sigh nodding to herself.

Allison turned her phone on do not disturb and tossed her phone into her stall taking her headphones off and got up heading to get her lemon protein smoothie and start her pre game routine.

She was playing sewer with most of the team as she braided her hair into her french braid that she mostly always wears for every single game.

Allison headed on the ice looking around feeling a bit of a different atmosphere, she didn’t know how far they would go in the playoffs but she was proud of getting here and getting to play in the playoffs her rookie year.

A year ago she was in the worse time of her life and now a year later she was playing in the NHL playoffs as a rookie.

Allison and Luke shared a three bump fist bump as they headed into the ice for the game to start.

One day Allison, Luke and Jack were going to play in the playoffs together but for now Luke is just glad to be at least playing with Allison.

It was barely three minutes into the first period and Luke was whacked in the face by a puck falling down to the ice holding his cheek.

Allison skated over quickly kneeling down next to him seeing Luke wincing a bit but rolling his jaw out, “You good?”

Luke gave her a nod, “Good.” Allison nodded back and gave him a hand to stand up.

Hurricanes got the first goal of the series in the first period.

Hurricanes got two more goals in the first half of the second period.

Allison shared a worried glance with Jesper seeing Dillon getting tangled up and hitting the ice hard and not getting up immediately.

Dillon needed help to get up and seemed a bit unstable on his own feet as he was helped off the ice.

“That’s not good.” Allison muttered as they have already been dealing with not playing with Jonas for a bit and they didn’t have Dougie for weeks who only just came back.

“Not at all.” Jesper muttered back to her with a worried frown.

Allison was out on the ice with Nico and Timo. Brett passed her the puck and she passed across the front of the goal setting Nico up, who took the shot and got the first goal for the Devils.

Allison cheered smiling at Nico as she crashed into him into the boards with Timo quickly joining the hug.

Hurricanes were leading 3-1 heading into the third.

Allison was skating towards the Devils net and glanced up just as Cody hit the ice and saw Luke get tanged up and fall into the net hard.

Allison inhaled sharply hearing Luke made a sound she didn’t want to hear him make and she quickly rushed over not caring less that the whistle wasn’t blown yet.

Luke was still on his knees in the net and gave her a painful grimace as he tried to move and get up, Allison quickly grabbed his waist helping him up slowly as the whistle was still not blown.

Allison gave Luke a disbelieving look as he was trying to skate around in a tiny circle trying to block pucks as he held his shoulder.

Allison stood in front Luke watching the puck but making sure no one touched Luke.

She let out a sigh of relief as Luke was heading to the bench but the whistle was finally blown and she quickly rested a hand on his back guiding him down to the tunnel.

Luke gave her a nervous and pain filled look, “I know Lukey, Your gonna be okay.” Allison softly spoke to him giving him a soothingly smile as she helped him off the ice and he gave her a tiny nod heading down the tunnel.

Allison widened her eyes as she turned around seeing Cody getting off the ice with help.

“Holy crap.” Allison muttered to herself as she skated back to the bench rubbing her face, she let out a sigh trying to get her heart beat steady again after seeing her brother get hurt in front of her, again.

“You good Goose?” Nico gave her a soft nudge as she sit down on the bench. Allison gave him a slow nod trying to shake off her worry to focus on the game they were currently loosing.

Allison got off the ice after her shift and titled her head seeing Luke heading back on the ice and realized he came back but immediately she could something was wrong with him.

He was skating and playing but she knew him and she could see how he was holding his stick more with one hand and flinching a bit.

“Why are you back on the ice.” Allison hissed as he sat back down next to her and was wincing.

“I want to finish.” Luke said through his teeth as he grimaced, he knew something was seriously wrong with his shoulder, worse than last summer.

Allison just sighed at her stubborn brother.

Devils lost game one 1-4.

Allison stayed with Luke as he went through his full evaluation and they headed back to the locker room and she helped him get out of his equipment so he could shower. Allison quickly got out of her equipment and heading right into the shower finishing before Luke.

She put her suit back on and was just brushing out her hair as Luke came back out and she helped him get his buttons closed on his long sleeve shirt and he just held his jacket.

Allison and Luke walked out of the locker room last and grabbed their dinners as they walked out and headed outside where the second bus would be waiting.

They saw Dawson, Nico and Dougie waiting but no bus, “Uh where is the bus?” Allison asked confused as she held the brown bag of Luke and hers dinner. There is always supposed to be a bus.

“It just left.” Dougie scoffed amused that they got left.

Allison slowly shook her head, “Of course.” Just their luck.

“Lovely.” Luke nodded his head a bit.

Allison and Luke shared a look as the bus came back a few minutes later, they were ready for dinner and get into bed.

They knew Jack was going to find this so funny when he finds out and they aren’t going to hear the end of it.

This wasn’t the best first playoff game for Allison.

the New Jersey Devils Off-Season (according to me, T) - part one, the 24-25 team

disclaimer: these are my opinions, takes, thoughts, ideas. I am in no way an expert in hockey, I just think about it a lot and talk about it a lot. I will more likely than not say something you probably don't like or agree with about your blorbo, so just a warning.

first, free agency.

Restricted Free Agents: Cody Glass, Nolan Foote, Luke Hughes, Isaac Poulter

Thoughts:

the plan is to sign LHughes, obviously. pls, do not ask me for how much or for how long. ideally, we sign him for under nine million for like eight years or something, but truly who knows what the contract will end up looking like. just sign the Hughes boy, quickly. I don't want a bridge contract, want something long term.

end the Foote experiment, now.

I'm assuming we're signing Poulter. I mean why wouldn't we?

I would like us to keep Glass, but I genuinely do not know what's going to happen there.

Unrestricted Free Agents: Justin Dowling, Curtis Lazar, Daniel Sprong, Nathan Bastian, Brian Dumoulin, Jake Allen, Max Willman, Samuel Laberge, Dennis Cholowski, Tory Dello, Marc McLaughlin

Thoughts:

knowing now what Lazar's season was actually like behind the scenes, I think if he's willing to take a very team friendly contract, I wouldn't mind re-signing him. good fourth line depth, potential additional center depth.

Dowling, Sprong, Cholowski can go fuckity bye for all I care.

I genuinely don't know enough about Willman, Laberge, Dello, and McLaughlin to give any type of informed opinion, but I assume they will be Utica men, so do what you gotta do I guess.

I am of two minds about Bastian, if I'm being honest. on the one hand, I don't think he's actually as bad as all the haters think he is, on the other hand, given the pending investigation of a sexual assault case and it being a team he was on, maybe just cut him loose now. Bastian is a solid penalty killer, and we saw that when he's on a line with an actual identity (the MEAT line, for example) he does deliver, but I'd say if he does come back I wouldn't be the angriest person in the world, but if he doesn't come back I also wouldn't be the angriest person in the world.

Devils want to make something work with Dumoulin and I would not be mad about it. especially if it means he is playing instead of Dillon. the issue is we should not be overpaying to keep Dumoulin and there are absolutely other teams out there who will give him some big money. be fucking smart, Fitz.

second, trades.

Untouchable: Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Jacob Markstrom

Safe and Sound: Stefan Noesen, Paul Cotter, Brett Pesce, Johnathan Kovacevic, Jonas Siegenthaler, Nico Daws

Should Be Traded: Ondrej Palat, Brenden Dillon, Kurtis Macdermid

Could Be Traded: Dawson Mercer, Erik Haula, Dougie Hamilton, Simon Nemec, Seamus Casey

Thoughts:

don't think the first two categories of players are even going to be talked about or looked at, so I'm not even gonna pay that any mind

the major priority is getting the fuck rid of Palat, and good news! teams want him! not only do teams want him, but they want him without us having to retain! pls fucking take him. we need that cap space to either sign Luke or to go free agent shopping or to pay someone in a trade.

the Macdermid contract is bury-able, but I hate it and I hate what it stands for. make it go away.

Dillon isn't actually going to be traded this off season, future off seasons is a different story, but he's probably not going anywhere at all. however, he is our worst defenseman, and he should be playing third pair minutes next season and if we sign Dumoulin, Dumoulin should absolutely be getting more starts than him, but also we're paying him four million, and you're not gonna healthy scratch the dude you're paying four million for are you. I will say, I do really appreciate his fighty-fighty. but like the rest of it is...no thank you.

for Mercer and Haula, I think I'd be fine if they stayed and fine if they didn't. I'm not wholly on the trade them train, but I'm also not on the we have to keep them train. just chilling. will judge the trade as objectively as possible if it happens. and if there's no trade, I will be ready to feel an expansive set of emotions towards Haula (starting with hate) and forgive Mercer for almost everything.

Casey is...difficult. he needs another year in the AHL and I'd be upset if we traded him without giving him an actual chance to develop and have time to prove himself. I think at the end of the day it depends on the details of the trade if Casey is involved. honestly, someone should seriously tell Casey to take the transitioning to playing forward thing seriously. it would solve so many of our problems.

this team would be fucking dumb to trade Nemec. yes, I'm very biased, but I'm also very fucking right. you can fight me about this. there is like one trade and only one trade that would be acceptable and that isn't happening this summer anyway, so, Nemec stays.

Hamilton. genuinely, don't think he's going anywhere. I think if Kovacevic wasn't missing the beginning of the season and most likely missing at least a few months of the season, we would be having a different conversation. I do not believe Hamilton will finish his contract in New Jersey, but I don't think the trade happens this summer. Our blue line is too precarious at the moment given the injuries (Kovacevic, LHughes, Dillon) to be thinking of getting rid of Hamilton. plus, we need puck moving defensemen and that is one of Hamilton's stronger skillsets. but we are getting closer to end of the Hamilton era of the Devils. and we absolutely need a healthy season out of Hamilton next season.
