The man who grew up surrounded by motorsports, the son of a legendary driver, who chose to forge his own path in a different category altogether instead of following his father’s footsteps and living under his shadow.
The man who made his F1 debut next to Max Verstappen and scored points at his very first race.
The man who carries on the legacy of Maria de Villota, an iconic female driver and his mentor that taught him single-seater racing, by wearing her star at the back of every helmet.
The man who broke Red Bull’s streak not once but twice during their most dominant era, through the power of sheer willpower and tactical brilliance. Once, in the streets of Singapore, with a strategy that no one else could have pulled off. “It’s on purpose,” he said, as he utilized the bond between him and his ex-teammate to hold off two much faster Mercedes. The second time in Australia, only two weeks after an invasive surgery and barely able to walk onto the podium.
The man who took engineering classes on his own time in order to understand the car better and provide better feedback to his engineers.
The man who uses a colour-coded system to communicate rain levels to his race engineer, memorized with every millimeter of rain correlating to a specific shade.
The man who has brought every team he has ever been at to a higher position in the Constructor’s Championship, and whose teammates speak fondly of every time.
The man who, despite always being considered Ferrari’s “second choice”, is a gracious teammate and speaks respectfully about the man who is set to take his place. “That's why, when I reflected on it, it didn’t hurt me that much. Because in the end it’s not any other driver replacing you, but the best driver in history. And in the end, if one has to replace me, let it be [Lewis],” he says to the media after losing his seat at his dream team.
The man who chose Williams, because he saw their potential for growth and their vision for the future, and chose them over teams who only wanted a temporary solution.
The man who was once described as “more modest and lightly brushed by melancholy”.
The man who is energetic, fun-loving and goofy with his friends inside and out of the paddock.
The man who is strategic in every action, determined to a fault and a natural born competitor.
Happy 30th birthday, Carlos Sainz Jr. We go where you go, now and forever.

Can you link me to where you talked about VER vs HAM’s codes??? Idek what that means but I’m intrigued.
It was in the 2015 Abu Dhabi GP review. For context it was the last race in Max's first season and he gave an interview.
Tl;dr : essentially Max was aware but not worried about the mistakes he was making. About the conflicts he ran into with other way more experienced and established drivers, he said he was defending his seat and that was normal. My theory is that Max knew the cultural codes of F1. Hence he felt entitled to the seat, the on track moves, his entire behavior, no matter how criticised he was for it. He was confident and unapologetic about it because he knew how he could be confident and unapologetic in that world and for it to be okay. He knew how it worked because he'd been immersed in that universe from his birth and what he didn't know his father could explain to him. Also something something about nobody holding him accountable.
In comparison, Lewis was fucking stressed the first few years because he's not from this world and neither he nor his family knew how to navigate it. That's also why Anthony would say "do your talking on the track" because that's the only place they could do their talking at all, unlike the likes of the Verstappens. Which is also basically what he's saying in that video from earlier.
Here's the full developed explanation from the review under a cut because it gets a bit long :
He talks about mistakes he’s made and he’s not miffed about them, he says it’s part of the learning process. He talks about his altercation with Massa after his big crash in Monaco when Massa said he should be penalised and Verstappen was like “mind your own business” basically and he says no hard feelings but you have to stand up for yourself especially at the beginning of your career. Also in Singapore when he refused to let his teammate back in front. He says he didn’t want to move because he was enjoying the race and fighting for a position and he’s pretty sure it wouldn’t have made a difference in the end. When asked if he then thought he was in trouble, he says it just drives him to do a better job. He says he thinks in the end a lot of people agreed with him and it’s a validation that he did the right thing. When asked where he can improve now, speed, consistency, technical feedback, he says everywhere.
Okay so. Why did I mention it? Well it’s all purely my opinion so as always you’re welcome to disagree but I see a very stark contrast in attitude with Lewis at his debut. Simply because Max doesn’t seem to feel like he has anything to prove. He seems to feel like he’s entitled to being here. Which is good on him, btw, I’m not questioning whether it’s based or not. But he’s there, he’s confident, he knows there's learning curve but that’s normal to him, he’s defending his spot and he’s very transparent about that, he’s not worried about his position in this sport. It gives him confidence and self assurance and even cheekiness. That’s the privilege of his position as, first of all of course, a white man, and also as a nepo baby. And, well, there's nothing he can do about being white and a nepo baby so to be clear I’m not holding it against him, he’s using the cards he’s been dealt. It is what it is. But in comparison when you think back to rookie Lewis… That boy was stressed out. He had to make it count. He had to prove himself so bad. There was so much pressure. And that’s the cards HE was dealt.
In sociology, I once heard about study results highlighting that children from higher socioeconomic classes did better in school not necessarily because they had better abilities but because they understood the specific language used in school. They understood the logic of it, the way it worked, the rules, because the same language and same logic and same structure was used in their homes unlike the homes of families from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. I feel like it’s the same thing. Max had a good understanding of the F1 codes from the start. He knew the politics of it and how the game was played. And where he might have not known, his dad did, and could tell him. Lewis struggled terribly in the first few years, especially with the PR and politics part, remember? He hated it to the point it made him consider quitting. Because he didn’t have the codes, he wasn’t born in it. And his dad couldn’t help with that, which is why he used to tell him to do his talking on the track. Because they simply didn’t have the status, nor the connections, nor the knowledge, to do it in the offices and dinner parties like the Verstappens.
Also it’s interesting to note that part about Max saying in the end people agreed with him so it validated that he was right. Because that’s a thing I’ve mentioned several times before, not in this rewatch but on my blog, that nobody ever holds him accountable for his mistakes or when he showcases dangerous driving and I find it to be a problem because that means he doesn’t question himself about it and has zero reason to change. First of all, sometimes it’s been actually genuinely dangerous for other people and second of all I worry (yes) that it might hinder his development. Because listen, whether you like Max or not, as far as driving goes, he has the stuff. It’s undeniable. I agree with the journalists this season saying straight away he would definitely win a championship at some point. The way it happened fucking sucked but if that hadn’t happened he’d still have won titles sooner or later. There’s no doubt. But I wonder if he’s living to his full potential not being questioned that way. Although maybe him not being completely complacent with himself is enough, idk. I guess I’ll see where I fall on that by watching his career develop.

Merry Crisis Third Chapter: It’s Christmas
Release dates
Ko-fi: 21 Jan
Public: 28 Jan
Author's note:
The third update of Merry Crisis will be up and ready-to-play for Ko‑fi folks a little earlier as a big "thank you" for the support :)
It's been a long time in the making, and there’s a LOT of new content in this new chapter (separate routes for each character!)—I'm so excited to share it with you all! Thank you so much for your support, sweet messages/asks. Can’t wait to hear what you guys thought of this chapter!
New content: "It's Christmas!"
Word count: 48,100 words (Total: ~97,000 words with code)
Playable content:
Attend Christmas dinner with the extended fam. Chat with your icy/frigid cousin or your brother, engage in some hijinks with your 6-year old twin cousins, and get embroiled in some true soap opera-style drama.
Ride off from the family dinner with Shay on their motorbike (to your mother’s horror), to a live music venue. Meet their bandmates, dance with Shay—a kiss is also in the cards—or perform on stage with the band if you dip out of dinner early!
Head to Labrador Park (a nearby coastal park with a strip of beach/forest) after dinner, and call Nat. You recall some of the good times spent on the beach with Nat on their first trip to Singapore to visit you, and just might just get a chance to fight for the relationship (or let it go for good).
Choose to spend some alone time at the park, and (possibly) reminisce about your 18th birthday, when you spent the afternoon there with Qiu after class.
End Christmas with a bang… (If you play your cards right, you might even be invited back to Shay’s apartment.)
Plus edited content for better readability in the earlier chapters. Do let me know if anything still sounds weird, or if you see any grammar/spelling errors! Can’t wait to hear what you guys think!
Edited content
Extensive edits of all the content up till the new chapter have also been made, for better readability :) Do let me know if anything still sounds weird, or if you see any grammar/spelling errors!
Next update
The next update will feature a mountain bike ride with Shay (if you said yes), and reunion dinner with your old Junior College classmates (including-or not including?-Qiu).

SESSION 5. COMPUTER CRIME
READ: ICTL TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 4
OPTIONAL REFERENCE: L&T BOOK CHAPTER 19
‘Computer Crime’ v. ‘Cybercrime’: Computer and internet usage is on the rise due to lower costs and easier accessibility. As it is another mode of transaction and one that is heavily dependent on the interaction through computers and automatic agents rather than face-to-face meetings, it is another avenue for crimes to perpetuate. What we call “cybercrime” largely consists of common crime, the commission of which involves the use of computer technology, and for which penalties already exists under the Penal Code. Substantively, there is no difference between generic individual crimes such as fraud, theft, extortion, harassment, forgery, impersonation, etc. and their cyber-analogues. Only those that relate specifically to computer usage and materials, etc. are specialized offences for which the Computer Misuse Act (CMA) was specifically enacted to tackle. What is the difference between “Computer Crime” and “Cybercrime” and how are they treated under Singapore’s criminal law?
The Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act: The original Computer Misuse Act (CMA) arose directly out of the increased usage of computers and the internet as well as to protect certain features from objectionable activities. We will be generally considering the Act, its coverage and effect, and some cases illustrating the offences committed thereunder. To deal with new potential abuses of computer systems, the Computer Misuse Act entered into force in 1993. Thereafter, the CMA was amended from time to time to keep up with the changes in technology and to addresses new potential computer abuses such as denial or interruption of computer services and unauthorised disclosure of access codes. The Act was renamed in 2013 as the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act (Cap 50A, 2013 Rev Ed) (CMCA), and provided for penalties proportionate to the different levels of potential and actual harm that may be caused by an offence. For example, it defines a class of critical computer systems (“protected computers”) and provides them with enhanced punishment in case of an offence. This applies to computers used by important institutions including the police, civil defence force, the military, national utilities companies, telecommunications companies, transportation services, major banks, and various emergency services. The CMCA also sought to enhance security, deter computer criminals with harsh penalties, and broaden the powers of the police to investigate such misdeeds. The CMCA was amended in 2017 with additional provisions to deal more with cybersecurity concerns; however, in 2018, after the enactment of the Cybersecurity Act (CA), the CMCA reverted to CMA with the security provisions moved to the CA.
Computer Crime Offences: The offences under the CMA are found in Part II of the Act, from sections 3 to 10. All the provisions provide for enhanced penalties when damage is caused, but the question is damage to what, and in what form? Also, under section 11, there is further enhanced punishment if the computer concerned is a “protected computer” (e.g. computers used for public safety, national defence, hospitals, etc.). The abetment and attempt of any of the CMA offences also constitutes the offence abetted or attempted and is punishable as that offence under section 12. The extra-territorial scope of the CMA is provided for under section 13. What is its effect and how effective can it be in the cyberspace where many actors can be sited, and acts can be committed, in other countries?
Consider the following:
Unauthorised Access to computer material (s.3 CMA): Mainly enacted to deal with hacking, it has since shown that it can extend to other forms of modus operandi. Present some reported cases and scenarios to explain how the provision works and what is required to make out a case under this provision. Do the “knowledge” relate only to the act of securing access or does it also relate to the lack of authorisation? What constitutes “unauthorized access”?
Access to computer material to commit/facilitate the commission of other offences (s.4 CMA): Examples are fraud, impersonation/identity theft or theft of finances such as credit card skimming, Phishing, Carding, Pharming. Explain the statutory limitations/conditions to the scope of this provision and the need to read/couple it with a substantive provisions in other criminal law statutes (esp. the Penal Code). Which offences/provisions in the Penal Code are relevant here. What are the differences between ss.3 & 4 of the CMA?
(a) Unauthorised Modification of computer material (s.5 CMA): The usual cases involve the defacing of websites through the use of computer viruses or worms, etc. Explain the elements of the provision and provide real world examples of such offences. (b) Unauthorised Use or Interception of computer services (s.6 CMA): The cases often involve phone/pager cloning and the tapping of cable broadcast service for free usage or mischief. Explain the elements of the provision and provide real world examples of such offences.
(a) Unauthorised Obstruction of computer usage (s.7 CMA): This will apply, for example, to system attacks, e-mail bombing and denial of service attacks. Explain the elements of the provision and provide real world examples of such offences. (b) Unauthorised Disclosure of access codes (s.8 CMA): An example is the transfer of one’s password to another to gain access to a computer or network without permission. What constitutes “wrongful gain”, “unlawful purpose” and “wrongful loss”? Explain these elements of the provision and provide real world examples of such offences.
(a) What is the objective and effect of the new provisions of the CMA in relation to the use of personal data obtained through existing offences and the act of obtaining tools to commit CMA offences (new ss.9 & 10 CMA). Compare these provisions to the existing provisions of the Act (e.g. the current provision on abetment and attempted (s.12 CMA). (b) What is the purpose and effect of the changes to the jurisdictional provision, particularly from the cybersecurity standpoint? (amended s13 CMA).
Future of Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity is increasingly an issue that the government is concerned with. Although the CMA contained provisions for the Minister to act and for investigations into cybersecurity issues, the Act was amended in 2013 to give the Minister even stronger powers to prevent or counter threats to national security, etc. by taking any measures necessary to prevent or counter any threat to a computer or computer service or any class of computers or computer services. These may cover the “cyberterrorism” phenomenon. Due to the heightened concerns with cybersecurity, the Act contained interim provisions on the issue until a standalone Cybersecurity Act was enacted in 2018. Nevertheless, the CMA provisions continues to be relevant as a part of the arsenal against cyber attacks and to address security concerns.
Cybersecurity Act: The 2018 Act is mainly procedural and relates to CIIs, empowering the Cybersecurity Commissioner to investigate and prevent breach/leak incidents, certification of service providers as well as breach reporting obligations. The approach is one of ‘light touch’ and can overlap with the work of the PDPC and the police under the CMA.

2,000th pilot graduated through the F-35 training system
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 04/29/2023 - 10:00 in Military
The 56th Fighter Wing of the U.S. Air Force formed the 2,000th pilot of the F-35 Lightning II, U.S. Air Force Major Christopher "Blade" Jeffers, on April 17, 2023, at Luke Air Base, Arizona.
This milestone represents a step forward for Luke's aviators in carrying out their mission to train the greatest fighter pilots in the world.
Since 1941, Luke's Air Base has trained more than 61,000 pilots, approximately 105 F-35 pilots and 188 F-16 pilots annually, representing 75 percent of the world's F-35 pilots.
Tap Title Bar to View 👆
“Here in Luke, we are not only proud of the number of pilots we produce,” said Colonel Keegan McLeese, deputy commander of the 56th Fighter Squadron. "We are very proud of the quality of our graduates, because they will be the ones who will advance air power in the coming decades."
Before flying the aircraft, pilots must undergo 192 hours of academic and simulator-based training. It takes 50 flight hours to complete the course and almost half are accredited through the F-35 Full Mission Simulator, an immersive technology designed to replicate the F-35 hardware.
Tumblr media
U.S. Air Force Major Christopher Jeffers, a 62nd Fighter Squadron pilot student, poses for a photograph in front of an F-35A Lightning II fighter on April 17, 2023, at Luke Air Base, Arizona. (Photo: U.S. Air Force / Airman 1st Class Katelynn Jackson)
“The simulator was very close to the plane,” Jeffers said. "It's as realistic as possible."
Jeffers flew the F-16 from 2014 to 2022 with more than 1,600 flight hours before participating in the Transition Course (TX) to the F-35. Jeffers became certified to fly the F-35 while assigned to the 62nd Fighter Squadron.
“The most rewarding part of the training is seeing what I can do now in the F-35 compared to the F-16,” Jeffers said. "The situational awareness and capabilities that the F-35 offers would need several F-16s."
Tumblr media
The F-35A is the latest fifth-generation fighter in the U.S. Air Force, with more than 8 million lines of three-layer code that make up the flight systems.
“The biggest difference between the fifth-generation aircraft and the F-16 is stealth,” Jeffers said. "This increases the survival rate in the missions. The next is the fusion of sensors. The F-16 can provide a lot of information, but you, as a pilot, need to decipher what is and what is not important. Since the F-35 knows what you want and increases the awareness of the battlefield."
In addition to strengthening national security, the F-35 serves as a vessel to strengthen global partnerships. Currently, Luke's Air Base maintains training partnerships with Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore and Denmark.
Tumblr media
“I had the opportunity to train with foreign partners here at Luke,” Jeffers said. "It was a very good experience to train with them and see the motivation they had to learn and improve."
Upon completing 3 and a half months of flight training accompanied by 50 hours of flight, TX pilots like Jeffers are trained as instructors in instructor refresher training. Jeffers will fulfill the remaining three years of his contract as an F-35 instructor pilot at Luke's Air Base.
"I see myself driving the F-35 here in Luke until I can retire," Jeffers said.
It took 14 years since the introduction of the F-35 in 2006 to reach 1,000 trained fighter pilots in 2020. Three years later, the Department of Defense doubled that number.
Tumblr media
Jeffers' belief is that, with the innovative and constantly evolving nature of the Air Force, this rate of force growth will continue.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we jumped to 6,000 pilots in a fraction of the time it took us to reach 2,000,” Jeffers said. "The U.S. Air Force is always improving and growing."
As the F-16 approaches the end of its training mission on Luke, a force of 2,000 trained F-35 fighter pilots strengthens the role of the aircraft in modern warfare.
Tumblr media
"We will be flying the F-35 in the coming years, and then the next generation of fighter aircraft will emerge," Jeffers said. "But I think the F-35 will be available for the next generation of aspiring fighter fighter pilots."
Luke AFB is fully committed to continuing quality F-35 training in support of its mission. Producing combat-ready aviators who train alongside high-performance multifunctional aircraft strengthens combat readiness.

Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh City
After leaving Singapore I returned to Vietnam to travel around and see more of the country that I’m calling home for the next few months.
I started in Phu Quoc, an island in the South of Vietnam located off the shores of Cambodia. I stayed in Duong Dong, which is the centrally located main town on the island. I think if I returned I would stay in a different area, however, as Duong Dong was more touristy and kind of gave me Myrtle Beach vibes. The beach there was still nice to go and this is where the Phu Quoc Night Market is located. The best street food I’ve had so far in Vietnam was at this night market. They have fresh seafood spreads that they grill in front you, fresh fruit juices and smoothies, and much more. There was one crepe stand that I really liked. Street food is a big part of Vietnamese culture and one shouldn’t shy away from trying it while here.
Phu Quoc was really just a relax at the beach kind of trip, rather than sightseeing as I have been doing. I mostly stayed at the pool and beach access by my hotel, but I did make it across the island to the fishing town of Ham Ninh. There wasn’t much there except for some seafood restaurants that were suspended over the water on piers, but I did stop in one to enjoy some fresh clams and look out at the open ocean.
In general Phu Quoc was okay for a few days of relaxation by the beach and eating great seafood. And the one highlight of Duong Dong was that I could watch the sun rise over the mountains and set over the ocean, which was a beautiful way to start and end my day.

Phu Quoc was a short plane ride away from my next destination: Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon. While it’s official name is Ho Chi Minh City, a lot of people still call it Saigon and it’s airport code is even “SGN”. A lot of businesses there also use Saigon in their name.
HCMC is the most populous city in Vietnam and has a much bigger city feel. I think it is also more popular for tourists and expats, as I saw a lot more foreigners around than in Hanoi.
I spent a lot of time just walking around seeing the city. Singapore softened me so I had to reacclimate to Vietnamese traffic. As a pedestrian in cities here you have to always be on high alert as you never know where a car or motorbike will appear from. My first day in Saigon I bent down to tie my shoe and was nearly grazed by a BMW driving down the sidewalk. Despite this I was still able to make my way around to a lot of good spots around the city.

For my last day in Ho Chi Minh I booked a guided tour of Mui Ne, a beach town about a five hour bus ride from the city. The many hours in the bus were worthwhile, as Mui Ne was absolutely beautiful. Our group’s guides took as around in Jeeps to all the main spots in the area. We walked along the Fairy Stream, stopped by a fishing village, rode ATVs around the white sand dunes, and watched the sunset from the red sand dunes. Every stop was great and I took so many photos. Mui Ne is definitely an underrated area in Vietnam that I’m glad I was able to see.

I still have an entire week (!) off of class, so my travels will continue.

AQ Dance - 3 Tips for Beginners When Attending a Ballet Studio in Singapore for the First Time
Tumblr media
Starting ballet can be both an exciting and daunting experience, especially for beginners. Before stepping into a ballet studio in Singapore, it's essential to prepare adequately to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. The first step is to find a reputable ballet school. There are numerous ballet schools in Singapore, each offering different levels of instruction. Researching and selecting a school that fits your needs and goals is crucial. Look for reviews, talk to former or current students, and visit the schools to get a feel of the environment.
Next, make sure you have the right attire. Ballet attire typically includes a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers. Some studios may have specific dress codes, so it's best to check with your chosen school beforehand. Proper attire not only helps you move freely but also allows instructors to see your movements clearly and provide accurate corrections.
In addition to attire, consider your physical preparation. Ballet requires a good level of flexibility, strength, and endurance. Engaging in activities like yoga or pilates can help build the necessary physical foundation. It's also helpful to familiarise yourself with basic ballet terms and positions. Many online resources and videos can give you a head start.
Understanding Ballet Etiquette
Ballet has a rich history and tradition, and part of learning ballet is understanding and respecting its etiquette. One of the key aspects of ballet etiquette is punctuality. Arriving on time shows respect for your instructor and fellow students. If you happen to be late, wait until the music stops before entering the studio to avoid disrupting the class.
Respecting the instructor and fellow students is paramount. Listen attentively when the instructor is giving corrections, even if they are not directed at you. This not only shows respect but also helps you learn and improve. Additionally, refrain from talking during class unless necessary, as it can be distracting.
Another important aspect is personal hygiene. Ballet involves a lot of physical contact and proximity, so maintaining good hygiene is essential. Ensure you are clean, and avoid wearing strong perfumes or lotions that might bother others. Keep your hair neatly tied back to prevent it from obstructing your movements or others' view.
Making the Most of Your Classes
Attending a ballet studio in Singapore offers a unique opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and be part of a supportive community. To make the most of your classes, approach each session with a positive attitude and an open mind. Ballet can be challenging, but persistence and a willingness to learn are key to progress.
Set realistic goals for yourself. Improvement in ballet takes time, and it's important to celebrate small victories along the way. Whether it's mastering a new step or improving your flexibility, acknowledge your progress and stay motivated.
Practising outside of class can also accelerate your improvement. While attending classes at a Singapore ballet academy provides structured learning, practising at home helps reinforce what you've learned. Simple exercises like stretching, practising basic positions, and watching ballet videos can be beneficial.
Building a good relationship with your instructor is also crucial. Don't hesitate to ask questions or seek feedback. Instructors are there to help you, and showing your enthusiasm and dedication can enhance your learning experience.
Embracing the Ballet Community
Joining a ballet school in Singapore means becoming part of a vibrant and diverse community. Embrace this opportunity to connect with fellow students, share experiences, and support each other. Ballet classes can be a great way to make new friends who share your passion for dance.
Participating in performances and events organised by your ballet school can also enrich your experience. These opportunities allow you to showcase your skills, gain confidence, and learn from others. Watching performances by advanced students or professionals can be inspiring and provide valuable insights into the art of ballet.
Remember, everyone in the ballet community started as a beginner. Be patient with yourself and others, and enjoy the journey. Ballet is not just about perfecting techniques but also about expressing yourself and finding joy in movement.
Starting ballet in Singapore is a rewarding experience that offers numerous benefits, from physical fitness to artistic expression. Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to ballet after a break, taking the first step is the most important part. Contact AQ Dance to begin your ballet journey with one of the best ballet schools in Singapore. Their experienced instructors and supportive community will guide you every step of the way, ensuring a fulfilling and enriching experience.
