Reading the novelization of A New Hope already changed how I saw Luke as a character but Splinter of the Mind’s Eye is going one step further and making me question the very fundamentals thought to be obvious about Luke.
Like, Luke is, for lack of a better term, a nerd. He studied languages and cultures -
“”Yes,” Luke admitted modestly. “I used to study a lot about certain worlds, back on my uncle’s farm on Tatooine. It was my only escape, and educational as well. This,” and he indicated the creature resting a massive long arm on his head and shaking him in a friendly fashion, “is a Yuzzem.””
-he wants to study more languages and cultures-
“Empty doorways beckoned to him and he was tempted, very tempted, to enter one of the ruined structures to find out if its interior was as well preserved as the outside.
This was not, he reminded himself firmly, the time for playful exploration. Their first concern was to find a way out, not to go poking around this ancient metropolis. However wonderful it was.”
Luke wants to know about people. He wants to know about cultures and creatures and he wants to be able to communicate and…
He really just. Is a great Jedi. He jumps between Leia and danger and he befriends the Yuzzem the prison guards thought would kill him and he wants to explore the creepy abandoned ruins of a civilization long past and he uses Anakin’s lightsaber underwater to cut the stem of a lilypad they use as a boat and he comments that the rock formations are almost too beautiful to cut down and he knows how to work Imperial explosives and
He’s a Jedi, man. He’s a Jedi. He’s been a Jedi this whole time, before any of us even knew what that actually meant.
#the inane ramblings of a madman#star wars#luke skywalker#long post#splinter of the mind’s eye#sw novels#listen listen listen#i’m like ninety nine percent sure most of this book is canon to legends’#and like#later portrayals of luke have to be based on this one#he wants to learn and he wants to communicate with people#also the language of the yuzzem is mostly grunts and growls and chitters#so i have to assume luke could also speak shyriiwook if he wanted#luke in the christmas special understanding what chewie and his family’s saying#is made all the funnier with knowledge of other languages luke has learned#i’m rethinking how i’ve been writing and interpreting luke this whole time#he’s a massive nerd and i never even truly understood the extent of it#tragic

Uhm uh uh...I have no excuse for this 😔 PPG self insert who is secretly an alien! I imagine her intro episode would have her having a little romance with the professor when he comes into a bookstore she works at/owns and the girls being (rightfully, given the prof's dating history) suspicious of her. Wacky capers ensue where they try to prove that she's up to no good, only to find that she genuinely is just chilling and wants to live a normal life on earth!
Well, normal as she can, now that she knows this family! I think she'd fit right in 😉

Ink October day 11: Firebreak
A strip of land that has been cleared, plowed, or planted with fire-resistant vegetation to prevent a fire from spreading.
#kh riku#riku kingdom hearts#kingdom hearts riku#riku kh#dream eater riku#kingdom hearts#kh#kingdom hearts dream drop distance#kh ddd#blue boi draws#ink october#ink october 2024#ink October 2024 day 11#I think this one might be my favourite of this years#it’s simple but I really like how it turned out#anyway Riku as a firebreak but instead of fire it’s darkness. guy who is darkness resistant who helps keep back the darkness#Riku using his darkness as a sorta ‘controlled burn’ method of fighting darkness#honestly darkness as a natural force vs darkness as a corrupting force… Riku having natural darkness and using it in a controlled way#to avoid build up that could be used against him by others with ill intentions#honestly Riku and how he deals with his darkness is really interesting. like local 16-17 yo figures out stuff on his own that keyblade#wielders have struggled with for ages. I think his method would be a big help to Terra in particular.#I feel like what Xehanort was teaching him was less controlled burn and more use it with reckless abandon. like he talked a lot of shit#about ‘controlling the darkness’ but we know he was just trying to foster the darknesses control on Terra so he could use it to fuck with#him. Terra would definitely be hesitant to try to learn again after that but hopefully Riku will be able to communicate the base idea of it#inbetween searching for Sora.#honestly Darkness and it’s connection to fire is interesting to me. there’s maleficents green fire. that one move Riku uses a lot.#the appearance of darkness resembling fire is common (it’s either that or goop. shout out to darkness goop) which is odd#because fire is a light bringer. it’s probably meant to pull on the consuming power of fire but still#anyway i love him

thoughts on the watcher dlc specifically what it says abt ancients if i may ask !
the vision of an ancient in a car startled me so bad it was all i could think of after that ending...!
#i was super excited when i got to ancient urban! seeing the masks made me jump around fr. dream come true#but seeing so much. especially seeing them alive. hm#trying to understand them based on the world they left behind vs Straight up being there with them. you know#i've always wanted to learn more about the ancients but this was so direct it felt a bit strange HAHAH#i did enjoy the cultural tidbits we got from the echo. like the community raising! plus the karma murals were faceless from the start yay#this is kind of nothing . my own thoughts are not the most clear to me really#ask#theres a billion spoiler tags for this i hope these suffice#rain world watcher spoilers#the watcher spoilers#rw watcher spoilers#watcher spoilers#watcher dlc spoilers

Ngl definitely thinking back to the cartoon-making chapter now we know that Twilight doesn't realise studying/pursuit of knowledge can be fun. No wonder the cartoon he made sucked. He was approaching it purely from the educational angle with zero idea of the entertainment aspect that makes edutainment programming effective.
It's not that he was really bad at writing the fun parts. He plain didn't realise there were meant to be any in the first place for it to work.
Copying the aesthetics with no understanding of what was underneath.
#like yeah you could tell the first time around he had all his priorities wrong but with the added context from the latest chapters#you realise just how ridiculously off base he was#spy x family#sxf manga spoilers#anyway something about how he's tried to adapt his teachings for anya to some extent but a mix of anya's upbringing + his own has stymied#this. anya doesn't do well with 'traditional' study methods + has associations with those but also loid thinks what worked for him could#work for her. and he's (as he spells out) learnt purely for survival. it's a very different situation + anya doesn't /have/ to.#but loid has tried. yuri has tried. both with varying levels of success for all their missing info on anya. until finally siggy's approach.#sth sth community to raise a child but also different teaching styles but also being willing to meet on anya's level.#making positive associations with learning rather than the negative ones everyone else has

Estewizard AU part 1

Divergence point
This story splits up right after Shuriki's attack at the palace. Esteban finds the Amulet moments before Alacazar and the royal wizard faced with this absolutely terrified teenage boy, that he knew and liked, logically concludes that the best course of action is to take him with when he fled.
He explains to Esteban that Elena was saved by the amulet and his grandparents and cousin were hidden by him and offers to do the same for him, but Esteban chooses to go with him and help him (arguing that Shuriki might go after him as the closest relative of the royal family and that he wants to help rescue his cousin). Alacazar, though with some reservations, agreed.
Their original plan was pretty easy. Since to release Elena back in Avalor, they'd need Shuriki's wand (and Alacazar knew he wouldn't win in a face off), they decided to go to another kingdom, to find a more powerful magic that would be able to free her. But when that first magic source failed, they went to yet another place and another, and another, and another...
As time passed, Esteban turned out to be a really apt student of the magical arts. Soon Alacazar started to consider him something of an apprentice and Esteban became fascinated with magic, learning both from him and from all the other magic users they met along the way. Even though his actual spells weren't the strongest, when it came to casting, he had a great mind for theory, could make accurate conclusions, guess at the unspoken rules.
And soon from master and apprentice their bond grew into something closer, something more familial. Alacazar who had to leave his daughter back in Avalor and Esteban who just lost almost his whole family, found comfort in each other that helped them go on even as their mission seemed more and more hopeless.
Of course it wasn't actually just the two of them, since Elena, although trapped in the Amulet, was there the whole time and they were perfectly aware of that. On top of figuring out how to get her out, Esteban was also developing ways to contact her. As Elena gained more control of the Amulet's magic, their relationship established as a trio, united by a mission to save their families and kingdom.
Travelling, learning, often fighting together obviously required a lot of trust. Their efforts could easily be folded if one of them was hiding a horrible secret...
#elena of avalor#eoa#esteban flores#alacazar#estewizard au#blue's doods#this whole dynamic is so#agh#alacazar seemed really fond of esteban in spirit of a wizard so thats partly what im basing on#and its been pointed out that esteban is also surprisingly nice to mateo so i believe this fondness was on both sides#and yay now esteban gets to learn magic!#surely this will have only positive influence on his character and wont lead to the development of any new insecurities#but hey at least hes not completely alone in this version of events#he has a father/mentor figure and a magic amulet for a sister#i should doodle elenas various ways of communication via the amulet bshbhcb

Oh this is scathing

#German memory culture is so fascinating#Also to some extent french#My mother often claimed that we had Jewish ancestry and that a great-grandmother of mine was Jewish#Turns out she'd based that on ''Women talking a weird language'' coming to visit her grandmother#anyway after a whole round of genealogical research we learned that i actually have an Austria-Hungarian great-great-great#grandfather#that is; my great-grandma was talking her mother's home language with cousins that were from three towns over#and they spoke very bad Serbo-Croatian amongst themselves and often just switched to french#but my mother constructed in her mind this whole thing about us being part Jewish and she used to be fascinated by#Woody Allen Roman Polanski Claude Lanzmann the Marx Brothers Jewish humor etc.....#(My mother also spent six months in Germany as a teen during student exchange. i blame them)#But yeah this idea that since i'm neurotic and i had a big nose i was somehow secretly Jewish was drilled into me#She also thought that since my grandpa is Andalusian he probably had some Sephardic blood#Which. What exactly is supposed to be meant here by blood ??? Völk ? Blut ? one-drop rule ??????????#anyway this brand of philosemitism is becoming more and more repulsive to me#Jews are not an enlightened scholar-priest-stand-up-comedian caste with magical blood. They're an imagined community#Same as every other nation; religion; family; culture. Like everybody else they are as good or bad or interesting as imagination allows#And if we have to do weird philo-ism of an outgroup devoid of content let us do what writers have done for 500 years and#Write about talking animals#I'd rather we all collectively hallucinate the houyhnhnms as the quirky fun minority rather than cast real people in that role#or the pigs Napoleon was part of or whatever

#I do not want to hustle and some of my most beloved people do not understand this#I was talking to my honorary big sister on the phone today about why I'm taking a gap year#the main reason is that the final semester of the program I was accepted into is around 50 hours per week of unpaid field work#which means you aren't allowed to have a job during that semester. this information was not presented until after the application process#anyway she was like “well that's fairly normal for healthcare professions” which is true#however this is a community college program and I would have expected them to account for people needing to work throughout college#anyway I responded “yeah true but I'm considering that maybe healthcare isn't for me then. I don't want a job that requires that much work.#And I don't! I don't want 50 or 60 hour work weeks! I want to work 40 hours and then leave and live my life!#but she made it seem like any job that requires a college degree is going to require that. And I don't think that's true#but also she is older than I am and has much more job experience so idk.#maybe she's advising based on the fact that as a teenager I was super type A and ambitious and really wanted a career?#whereas in the past couple years...idk I just want a reliable job that I don't hate that pays the bills and leaves time for enjoying life#so. I'm not sure#And now I kind of feel bad for not having that ambition anymore/ not wanting to have to give myself ulcers to get through school#But college is not worth my sanity and I found that out the hard way.#And I also feel bad for not being one of those people who CAN handle that much workload! Like I can certainly learn#to do more than I'm doing currently#but I will never be one of those constantly busy and insanely productive people. And I don't even want to be anymore#and yet that feels like an error.#I am not lazy! I used to think I was but no. I enjoy getting work done and doing personal projects and going to work and improving things.#It's not even as though I don't have things I want to do with my life. I have a lot of short term and long term goals!#I want to contribute to my community and support my family however I can and make art and tell stories and be a safe place for people!#and so much else!#but those ambitions aren't necessarily directly connected to school or a job for me anymore#and I value rest and having a social life too much to completely put my health on hold for years and years#sure college does take up a lot of time and energy but it shouldn't wholly consume your life as far as I can see.#and now I feel very unsure if that approach is realistic.#thinking I should talk with her again and try to explain myself a little better and ask what she meant.#diary

Remember when Learning was a Shared Journey
Teachers guiding us, parents cheering us on, siblings sharing notes or stories—learning felt alive. Somewhere along the way, that circle broke. Students were left figuring it out alone. But this isn’t failure — it’s just a missing ecosystem. And that’s what we’re here to rebuild. At #Newsepick, we believe learning is at its best when it’s shared. ✅ Teachers feel empowered ✅ Parents stay involved ✅ Students feel seen, heard, and supported Because when learning is connected, it’s not just about passing exams—it’s about growing, thriving, and building confidence for life. Let’s bring back what learning was always meant to be—a shared journey. We’re in. y'all stop saying fyodor has never looked so sincerely angry before. he has.
I know this because, and this is not an exaggeration, the vast majority of my manga revisits are to enjoy his expressions of anger, disdain, and malcontent. i shit you not, several of my bsd meta posts wholly unrelated to fyodor were written because I happened to notice something else while flipping through to imbibe fedya's hissy fits. I don't reread the manga when I do this, just those scenes, unless something else catches my attention.
anyway, stop disrespecting my beloved pastime.
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bsd fyodor#most people are remarkably bad at reading expressions#not me though#this isnt a bit i fixated on how emotions are nonverbally communicated so that i could lie better and to develop a pleading face#for most of elementary school i studied people's faces and workshopped my own by getting feedback from others and testing them in the field#then in 8th grade my gifted program teacher made us take an assessment on how well we could read faces#to debunk body language expertise#and demonstrate the fact that most people think they can read faces but most of us cant#emphasizing why trials and presumptions based on assumptions that we can are harmful#everyone predictably failed real hard#except for me. i made an 80%#my teacher made me take it again and explain to her my process.#then she asked where i learned it and i explained to her that i never got stickers at naptime in kindergarten because i never slept#so i began obsessively refining my fake sleep#it took months but i figured out how to coordinate all of the tells and it worked i started getting stickers#so then i started to practice other states of mind#and she marked me an outlier and removed me from the data 😭#anyway. all im saying is. i love fedya's face.

How to tell it is food day
A visual guide

Scoria: Hello Mommy! I love you! I'm ready to eat when you have time, no rush. I'm enjoying being in my little castle and am just happy to see you! I hope we have time to cuddle. 🧡
Sakura:

Food. Now.

Did I stutter?
#snakes#snake#hognoses#hognose#pets#sakura#sakura kurīmu#cute#There is a reason Sakura is target trained and Scoria is not#Sakura is VERY food motivated#Scoria will choose cuddles or play over food every time#Scoria only eats because she knows I want her to and it makes me happy otherwise she has no food drive#Sakura would eat her own enclosure if she could#she's tried#(it did not work)#But a very food motivated pet is the easiest kind to train#Scoria will probably never be target trained and that's okay#she has other very neat things she has learned#like how to ask to be pet#or other communication based actions#I think she is super cool and smart for figuring this out#love these two so much

work related question does anyone have any fun anime for likely 12-14 year olds that to their ulta-conservative conspiracy theory parents would have no objectionable content whatsoever that's not like . pokemon. i live in the most conservative area in michigan btw /hj
#gu6chan's musings#tl;dr so idk if i ever mentioned on this blog but i live in a very small town (less than 900 people in the TOWNSHIP which is like#...3? different towns? maybe 4)#i digress#and since i work in a public position its like#i've been trying to organise more community events this summer ESPECIALLY among the youth#and was like 'we can try appealing to hobbies; i think' and listed a couple suggestions like this and that#so i was talking to my higher ups about it and they were like 'OH! youre super into anime right'#and i was like 'uh... sure???' bc i hadn't seen ANYTHING in a hot second and am still stuck in 2008 so i dont know any new series#but they knew i was a bit of a nerd and weren't as acquainted being older so i can't blame them!! lol#anyways long story short there's been an anime club they've been trying to kickstart for like the last... 3 years?#for the local middleschool/highschool except they haven't been able to find any way to get the word accross#and i was like neato; cool; i'd love to help with that!! and told them i'd make a poster for it real quick (still haven't. work is tomorrow#so they gave me the login to crunchyroll (my first time using it) and were like 'go find some anime that kids might like!!! :)'#and i was like '...WOAH.' and told them it'd take a second bc this area is VERY conservative and there's a bit of cultural dissonance when#it comes to 'kid-appropriate' between japan and the US; particularly with nudity lmao#and a lot of even what's popular among kids (Chainsaw man; Jujutsu Kaisen i think?) wouldn't fly but ouaahahhgh#it still has to be entertaining to them and not feel like it's being 'dumbed down' i have a couple ideas like sailor moon; uhh....#cardcaptor sakura?#but those are mostly shoujo anime which is good!! But i'd also like to include some shounen-type stuff as well for balance ofc#and that's where the problem arises 😭 i'd also love to take a look at older anime since i'm still figuring out what the 'goal' of the club#is besides just having a place for kids to interact and make friends with each other like#do i want it to be based in looking at the history of anime as an art form and its evolution? should it be like a book club and more focuse#on discussing character arcs and writing? or maybe even linguistically based since I did mention wanting to help inspire kids to take up#different languages!! and i know a lot would love to learn japanese#but yeah a lot to figure out 😭 i might be cooked chat

srslyyyy, some s4 players need to learn to grow a sense of humorrrr. like i joked on twitter that ea doesn't listen to criticism, they just listen to praise and sb got all bent outta shape about it. (and it OF COURSE they ended up hitting me with the "if they don't like it, they don't have to buy it") and it's like 1) lemme fuckin joke about a $31. BILLION company that consistently screws over its consumers, also the game itself costs $1,500+ while being buggy af!!!! AND. 2) the devs have been CAUGHT blocking ppl with sensible questions / criticisms that aren't harassment or cruel. sooooo ... my joke is also half true !
#✏️ - 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐎𝐁 // [ooc]#// and then i see some ppl say shit like “the devs can block whoever -- they're humans too”#// BUT THE PROB IS !!! that would be TRUE if they were running a personal twit account#// but they literally label their account as “simguru” -- intentionally advertising for ea#// and so it's a PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT#// and blocking ppl based on criticism is NOT a professional look#// if you're a professional -- you NEED to learn to take criticism#// now they ABSOLUTELY DON'T deserve harassment#// but that doesn't mean they deserve coddling & to be shielded from all valid criticism#// it's actually funny how many ppl are defensive saying “they should block whoever they want”#// like nnoooooooo fuck noooooo#// bc again -- THESE ARE PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTS !!!#// sorry. but you must do certain things when you're professional + you're making money#// listening to criticism & accepting ur product's flaws is one of them#// i know ea has manipulated the whole community in being afraid of giving criticism or feedback#// 'cos somehow they're all ~one cozy heckin wholesome family~1!!!1!! but y'all bfr....
