How does the new BYD ATTO 2 perform? As per the below:
ATTO 2 - from around £30,000 this FWD has a usable battery of 45.1kWh which offers 130kW (174hp), top speeds of 99mph and 0-62 times of 7.9 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 125 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 170 miles (on a full charge) – 150 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 5 hours with the 65 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 39 minutes. The EV Bidirectional capability - a 3.3kW AC exterior outlet. It has a 135 mpg equivalent, 400L cargo volume (or 1340L with the seats down) and towing capacity of 750kg (Unbraked) and 750kg (Unbraked). The Heat Pump is standard.
The automotive group are bringing another cost-effective vehicle to the market with the “compact electric SUV with a striking exterior”. The key aspects include the sharp LED lights, continuous tail lights, vegan leather, smart rotatable screen, navigation, electric multi function seats with heating, panoramic roof, smart storage for luggage, the BYD e-Platform 3.0 for optimized interior space, advanced riving systems and the high-efficiency heat pump. Combustion engines, the engines in gas-powered cars, only use a quarter of the fuel's potential energy while the rest is lost as heat through exhaust. Now, a study published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces demonstrates how to convert exhaust heat into electricity. The researchers present a prototype thermoelectric generator system that could reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions -- an opportunity for improving sustainable energy initiatives in a rapidly changing world. Fuel inefficiency contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and underscores the need for innovative waste-heat recovery systems. Heat-recovery systems, called thermoelectric systems, use semiconductor materials to convert heat into electricity based on a temperature difference. However, many existing thermoelectric device designs are heavy and complex, requiring additional cooling water that's used to maintain the necessary temperature difference. Now, a team of researchers led by Wenjie Li and Bed Poudel have developed a compact thermoelectric generator system to efficiently convert exhaust waste heat from high-speed vehicles like cars, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles into energy.

PSA- Don’t Buy Tesla’s
“She told NBC6 that her husband would be still alive if the Model S door handles simply opened the car. That did not happen in Jutha’s Model Y, because its doors work with electronic actuators. If an electrical failure occurs, they demand a mechanical manual release.”
“Tesla has transitioned to an electromechanical door latch system on its vehicles, which means the doors are not physically connected to the door opening handles. Instead, these are electrical switches that trigger the electric door release system to open the door. Because there is no physical connection between the door handles and the door latching mechanism, it doesn’t work when the 12-volt electrical system is down for some reason.
This usually happens in the case of a crash. At least two car crashes ended with fatalities because people got trapped inside a Tesla.”
“‘Uggh, it's a Tesla. We can't get in these cars,’ one firefighter reportedly said. Despite the difficulty, they acted swiftly, using an ax to smash a window and rescue the child.”
“The Hyundai Venue compact SUV topped iSeeCars’ review of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System data for most dangerous cars, while Tesla topped its list of most dangerous car brands.”
“These fires burn at much higher temperatures and require a lot more water to fight than conventional car fires. There also isn’t an established consensus on the best firefighting strategies for EVs, experts told Vox.”

Seriously- no matter what your political leanings are- DON’T BUY TESLA’S; the fact that no one is widely discussing a very blatant safety risk that people can’t reliably get out of their cars during a car accident is HORRIBLE…
If you KNOW someone who owns a Tesla- make sure they are AWARE of this flaw in certain vehicles and that they should possibly purchase a window breaker to be safe.

1993 E1 Concept (Z15)
In 1993, BMW unveiled the second-generation E1 Concept, internally designated as the Z15, at the International Motor Show Germany in Frankfurt on September 9. This forward-thinking prototype succeeded the Z11 E1 Concept of 1991, which had been destroyed in a fire while charging. The Z15 was a bold step in BMW’s exploration of sustainable urban mobility, showcasing two variants: an all-electric model and a hybrid. Designed as a compact 3-door city car with seating for four, the Z15 retained the lightweight aluminum and plastic body of its predecessor, emphasizing efficiency and agility. The electric version, painted in striking green metallic with a matching green interior, was powered by a 19.2 kWh sodium nickel chloride battery, achieving a top speed of 80 mph (130 km/h) and offering an impressive range of up to 200 km in urban conditions.

The hybrid variant of the Z15, finished in vibrant red, integrated a 4-cylinder internal combustion engine sourced from the BMW K1100 motorcycle, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering 82 horsepower. This twin-powertrain approach highlighted BMW’s innovative spirit, testing the feasibility of combining electric and traditional propulsion for urban environments. The Z15’s design, influenced by Henrik Fisker during his tenure at BMW Technik, evolved from the Z11 with a sleeker, more futuristic aesthetic while maintaining compact dimensions (3.7 meters long) and a 2+2 seating configuration. Although the Z15 was technically advanced, BMW Technik concluded that battery technology required further development to make electric vehicles commercially viable, a challenge that persisted despite the concept’s promising performance.

Though the E1 Z15 never reached production, its legacy was profound, laying critical groundwork for BMW’s future electric vehicles, most notably the i3, launched 20 years later in 2013. The Z15’s pioneering use of sodium nickel chloride batteries, improved over the Z11’s sodium-sulfur setup, and its focus on lightweight construction and aerodynamic efficiency foreshadowed modern electric vehicle design principles. The project underscored BMW’s commitment to sustainable innovation, driven by external pressures like California’s zero-emission mandates, which also spurred competitors like General Motors’ EV1. The Z15 remains a testament to BMW’s early vision of eco-conscious urban mobility, blending driving pleasure with environmental responsibility, and its influence resonates in the brand’s electrified lineup today.

1993 E1 (Z15) Concept at a Glance: 4-seat electric and hybrid city car. The electric variant featured a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 19.2 kWh sodium nickel chloride battery, delivering a top speed of 80 mph (130 km/h) and a range of up to 124 miles (200 km) in urban conditions. The hybrid variant used an 82 hp (61 kW) 4-cylinder engine from the BMW K1100 motorcycle with a 5-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive, lightweight aluminum/plastic body weighed approximately 1,984 lbs (900 kg), with a length of 12.14 ft (3.7 m) and aerodynamic design. Unveiled at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show, held September 9-19.
