• M50 Reising Submachine Gun
The .45 Reising submachine gun was manufactured by Harrington & Richardson (H&R) Arms Company in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, and was designed and patented by Eugene Reising in 1940. The three versions of the weapon were the Model 50, the folding stock Model 55, and the semiautomatic Model 60 rifle. Over 100,000 Reisings were ordered during World War II, and were initially used by the United States, though some were shipped to Canadian, Soviet, and other allied forces.
Reising was an assistant to firearm inventor John M. Browning. In this role, Reising contributed to the final design of the US .45 ACP M1911 pistol. Reising then designed a number of commercial rifles and pistols on his own, when in 1938, he turned his attention to designing a submachine gun as threats of war rapidly grew in Europe. Two years later he submitted his completed design to the Harrington & Richardson Arms Company (H&R) in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was accepted, and in March 1941, H&R started manufacturing the Model 50 submachine gun. H&R promoted the submachine guns for police and military use, and the Model 60 for security guards. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 the US was suddenly in desperate need of thousands of modern automatic weapons. Reising's only competitor was the .45 ACP Thompson submachine gun. The US Army first tested the Reising in November 1941 at Fort Benning, Georgia. During this test, several parts failed due to poor construction. Once this was corrected, a second test was made in 1942 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. In that test, 3,500 rounds were fired, resulting in two malfunctions: one from the ammunition, the other from a bolt malfunction. As a result, the Army didn't adopt the Reising, but the Navy and Marines did, due to insufficient supply of Thompsons.
The Reising submachine gun was innovative for its time. In comparison to its main rival, the famous Thompson, it possessed similar firepower, better accuracy, excellent balance, a lighter weight, a much lower cost, and greater ease of manufacture. Despite these achievements, the poor combat performance of the Reising contrasted with favorable combat and law enforcement use of the Thompson mired the weapon in controversy. The Reising was far less costly ($62) compared to the Thompson ($200). It was much lighter (seven vs. eleven pounds). The Model 55 was also more compact (about twenty-two vs. thirty-three inches in length). The M50 Reising's delayed blowback operation, often classified as hesitation lock, works as follows: as the cartridge is chambered, the rear end of the bolt is pushed up into a recess, in a manner similar to tilting-bolt locked breech guns; but whereas such weapons rely on an additional mechanism to unlock them, in the case of the Reising the end of the bolt that pushes against the back wall of this recess, is subtly rounded, while the wall is correspondingly curved. On firing, the extreme pressure from the propellant gases is thereby able to force the bolt-end down, back to the horizontal. From here the bolt can move to the rear removing the cartridge from the chamber; but the combination of mechanical disadvantage and friction the force of the gases must overcome to push the end of the bolt down has achieved a delay of a fraction of a second, allowing pressure in the barrel to drop to a level sufficiently low for safe and efficient cartridge extraction. The Reising was made in selective fire versions that could be switched between semi-automatic or full-automatic fire as needed and in semi-auto only versions to be used for marksmanship training and police and guard use. The Reising had a designed full-auto cyclic rate of 450–600 rounds per minute but it was reported that the true full-auto rate was closer to 750–850 rounds per minute.
The U.S. Marines adopted the Reising in 1941 with 4,200 authorized per division with approximately 500 authorized per each infantry regiment. Most Reisings were originally issued to Marine officers and NCOs in lieu of a compact and light carbine, since the newly introduced M1 carbine was not yet being issued to the Marines. Although the Thompson submachine gun was available, this weapon frequently proved too heavy and bulky for jungle patrols, and initially it, too, was in short supply. During World War II, the Reising first saw action on August 7th, 1942, exactly eight months to the day after Pearl Harbor, when 11,000 men from the 1st Marine Division stormed the beaches of Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands. The same date of Guadalcanal's invasion, the Model 50 and 55 saw action with the 1st Marine Raiders on the small outlying islands of Tulagi and Tanambogo to the north. Serious shortcomings in both guns were becoming apparent. The reality was that the Reising was designed as a civilian police weapon and was not suited to the stresses of harsh battle conditions encountered in the Solomon Islands—namely, sand, saltwater that easily rusted the commercial blued finish, and the difficulty in keeping the weapon clean enough to function properly. Tests at Aberdeen Proving Ground and at Fort Benning, Georgia, had found difficulties in blindfold reassembly of the Reising, indicating the design was complicated and difficult to maintain. The producer, H&R, had not yet mastered mass-production technologies in 1940-1941, and many of the parts were hand fitted at the factory just like the company did with their commercial firearms. While more accurate than the Thompson, particularly in semi-automatic mode, the Reising had a tendency to jam. The Reising earned a dismal reputation for reliability in the combat conditions of Guadalcanal. The M1 carbine eventually became available and was often chosen over both the Reising and the Thompson in the wet tropical conditions.
In late 1943 following numerous complaints, the Reising was withdrawn from Fleet Marine Force (FMF) units and assigned to Stateside guard detachments and ship detachments. After the Marines proved reluctant to accept more Reisings, and with the increased issue of the .30-caliber M1 carbine, the U.S. government passed some Reising submachine guns to the OSS and to various foreign governments (as Lend-Lease aid). Both the Soviets and Canada purchased some Model 50 SMGs, others were given to various anti-Axis resistance forces operating around the world. Many Reisings (particularly the semiautomatic M60 rifle) were issued to State Guards for guarding war plants, bridges, and other strategic resources. After the war, thousands of Reising Model 50 submachine guns were acquired by state, county, and local U.S. law enforcement agencies. The weapon proved much more successful in this role, in contrast to its wartime reputation. Production of the Model 50 and 55 submachine guns ceased in 1945 at the end of World War II. Nearly 120,000 submachine guns were made of which two-thirds went to the Marines. H&R continued production of the Model 60 semiautomatic rifle in hopes of domestic sales, but with little demand, production of the Model 60 stopped in 1949 with over 3,000 manufactured. H&R sold their remaining inventory of submachine guns to police and correctional agencies across America. Decades later, in 1986, H&R closed their doors and Numrich Arms (aka Gun Parts Corporation) purchased their entire inventory.

Derringer
Tumblr media
Derringer – A Small Gun with a Big History
The Derringer is like a secret weapon from history: small, discreet, yet full of stories. It’s not a revolver, semi-automatic, or machine pistol—it’s in a category of its own. While it might resemble pocket pistols or mini-revolvers, especially later models built in the so-called pepperbox style, the Derringer has carved out its own iconic place in the world of firearms.
Modern Derringers are often multi-barreled and as compact as possible—just enough to handle a given caliber. That’s why they became especially popular among women: easy to hide in a purse, stocking, or even up a sleeve.
A fun fact: the name “Derringer” is actually a misspelling. The original firearm was the Philadelphia Deringer, but when the press reported on President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination—committed with a concealed Deringer—the error stuck. The misspelled version became widely used to describe all pocket pistols, and competitors even marketed their own versions under terms like “palm pistol.”
The Original: Henry Deringer’s Invention
In 1825, gunsmith Henry Deringer introduced a compact, percussion cap, muzzle-loading pistol that would carry his name. About 15,000 Philadelphia Deringers were made. They were typically single-shot, .41 caliber pistols with rifled barrels and walnut stocks. Barrel lengths ranged from 1.5 to 6 inches (3.8 to 15.2 cm), and the metal parts were often crafted from a copper-nickel alloy known as “German silver.”
Loading the Gun Was an Art Form
Loading a Deringer was a delicate process. First, a couple of caps were fired to dry out moisture in the barrel. Then, with the hammer set to half-cock, the shooter poured in black powder, rammed a patched lead ball tightly onto it (leaving no air gap), and placed a fresh percussion cap on the nipple. Any mistake could cause a misfire—or worse, a dangerous explosion.
You had one shot—so you had to make it count. If you missed, your best hope was a second Derringer. That’s why they were usually sold in matching pairs. Prices ranged from $15 to $25 per pair, with fancy engraved or silver-inlaid versions costing more.
From Officers to Outlaws
Deringers were first popular with military officers, but soon became civilian favorites for self-defense—especially in the rough-and-tumble world of the American Wild West. There, these tiny weapons earned nicknames like vest pocket pistol, sleeve gun, and boot pistol.
But the Derringer also gained a darker reputation. Its small size and easy concealment made it a weapon of choice for assassins. The most infamous example? John Wilkes Booth used a Deringer to assassinate President Lincoln in 1865. Booth’s pistol was unusual—it had left-handed rifling, while most twisted to the right.
Moore, Colt, and the Cartridge Revolution
In 1861, Daniel Moore patented a single-shot .38 Rimfire cartridge pistol with a side-pivoting barrel for easier loading. He produced these until 1865, then sold the design to National Arms Company, which continued production in .41 Rimfire until Colt acquired them in 1870. Colt not only kept producing the model but also introduced three of its own single-shot Derringer designs, all chambered in .41 Rimfire. The last, the “Third Model Colt Derringer,” remained in production until 1912—and was revived in the 1950s thanks to Western movies, rebranded as the Fourth Model Colt Derringer.
The Derringer isn’t just a gun—it’s a symbol of a time when one shot could change everything. Carried in boots, sleeves, and waistcoats, it left a mark on history far larger than its size would suggest.

Derringer – pieni ase, suuri historia
Hauska yksityiskohta: sana “derringer” on itse asiassa virheellinen kirjoitusasu.
Vuonna 1861 Daniel Moore keksi uudenlaisen yksipiippuisen .38 Rimfire -pistoolin, jonka piippu kääntyi sivulle lataamista varten.

I do love how the B.A.G. Alice is wielding on the first film's poster (& in a few of the promo images) never appears in the movie. She only gets to use the Springfield Armory in her other hand and a shotgun she finds after waking up in the general hospital.
I do believe that in the unused alternate ending, where she shows up at some Umbrella building in a trenchcoat to fuck the place up, that big ass gun is what she uses.
In my humble opinion though, that gun would never be Alice's choice of weapon. She seems to prefer firearms she can get away with using one-handed... Although technically I suppose you could use the B.A.G. that way, I'm referring to a firing position where you have your arm extended out.
When Alice switches her lab coat and sheets for real clothes in Apocalypse, she also ditches her standard shotgun in favor of a compact cruiser and she uses it one-handed. The other guns she grabs we mostly see her dual-wielding, which she clearly loves doing and is a big part of the reason I think she likes her firearms this way. The P-14s strapped to her thighs are pistols. Simple. Easy. Like the similar Heckler & Koch Rain and a few of her teammates use in the first film, the MP5Ks carried in Alice's shoulder holsters have foregrips and are meant to be fired with two hands. However, they were actually fitted with different grips for the movie to accommodate one-handed firing.
The compact cruiser makes a one-handed return in Extinction. When I think of Alice with weapons in this movie, I think of her with the set of kukris she slices the undead apart with, but the pair of Nite-Tacs she uses get a fair amount of screentime too. Most of it is spent dual-wielding, of course. And again, on the poster, she is holding semi-autos that she never uses (but they do seem up her alley).
In Afterlife, Alice carries two double-barreled sawed-off shotguns and two Smith & Wesson revolvers. Shocker! One hand would feel wrong if it wasn't holding a separate weapon from the other! When Claire tosses Alice a Heckler & Koch during the rooftop fight, she does use the foregrip this time... for a moment. She's back to dual-wielding a pair of them on the poster. Her army of clones all appear to carry a pair of Brügger & Thomet MP-9s in their thigh holsters.
(I guess they must've found all those machine pistols during a raid on an Umbrella facility? But that's not even mentioning the swords, which I can't picture Umbrella troops using).
Anyway! The clones seem to take after the real Alice. There's even a clone that uses a dude's rifle one-handed while using the other to hold him up as her human shield.
Retribution... On the cover, we see Alice rocking one of each firearm she uses. A KRISS Vector (submachine gun) and a SIG-Sauer (pistol). She finds the single SIG-Sauer in the Tokyo simulation and uses it on the zombies that get through the doors. The movie kicks off right where Afterlife ended, and for some fucking reason, she has a different pair of SIG-Sauers during the opening sequence that I don't remember her having in Afterlife. She gets the KRISS Vectors during her meeting with Ada and Wesker. These guns come with stocks, but to nobody's surprise, Alice picks up two without them since she's not gonna use them with all her one-handed firing.
I'm fairly certain she only holds the foregrip of the KRISS when she's shooting the ice at Bad Rain's feet and when she's trying to destroy the small Scarab she ripped off Jill. Since Alice kinda gets her ass kicked in the fights against both of them, it's safe to assume her aim has been rendered far less steady, and because shooting with one hand generally affects accuracy, it makes sense that she uses the foregrip during these moments.
Finally, The Final Chapter! Despite the good Claire/Alice stuff, this movie is my least favorite. The editing is bad, all the retconning is stupid, and killing Jill, Becky, Leon, and Ada offscreen was stupid too.
Not important! Somebody suddenly decided to give Alice another Heckler & Koch (with the stock on!) and had her handle it two-handed this time. She even uses a rifle two-handed! She is injured when she joins the other survivors, though, and I'm sure the semi-auto had a standard grip.
We are not entirely without Alice's usual gun habits, though. She's holding both of Christian's double-barreled pistols on the cover, and she does get to use them in the film. She also gets another sawed-off shotgun. It has three barrels this time (like the Hydra from the games lol) and is given to her by Claire :)
So yeah, I guess the point of this long ass post is to say that, if given the choice, Alice would not use that big ass gun. Not her style.

Firearm Friday! Today, I am showing off my new “build” - a Sig P320 Compact. It all started with a Sig Sauer Custom Works P320 fire control unit. I added a Wilson Combat grip, an optics ready Grey Ghost Precision slide, a Faxon threaded barrel and a Holoson HE509T X2 reflex sight on top. On the end of the barrel is my SilencerCo Omega K. This is quite a fun gun to shoot and it has one of the best striker fired triggers I have ever experienced.

Today's lore tidbit!
The MIP Horizon is Chyro's first purpose-designed exoplanetary armament, and is simultaneously the simplest armament used in the Rellion system, and a very tightly-built firearm. The four barrels are removable, and each is loaded with 11 caseless superposed bullets, making a high-capacity pistol that can fire all 44 rounds in less than a second, if you don't value your wrist bones.
The disadvantages are mostly counteracted by the environment. Low penetration power and poor range are less of an issue in the cramped halls of a spaceship.
The gun is strictly controlled and disallowed in all cities on Chyro, since the compact and high-capacity weapon is seen as a liability.

BILLY
Drop some gun facts on me because I could show you some Red Dead Redemption guns on Discord.
GUN FACTS GUN FACTS GUN FACTS !!!
[Also tagging @alkivm and @smashlovesscream because I saw your asks as I was writing this!! <3]
I’m gonna be telling you about THREE KF MY FAVOURITE GUNS. BE READY. I TALK ALOT.
•The FAMAS
-The FAMAS is also known as the “Fusil d’Assaut de la Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne’ which translates to “Assault rifle from the Saint-Étienne Arms Manufacture" I believe-
-It’s a French gun, given by the name. It’s actually a French bull pup assault rifle. One way to tell it’s a bullpup is by the magazine being located behind the trigger!!
-it was developed in the LATE 1960s and was entered in the French military around 1978 I believe.
-THE CALIBER AHHHHH. It’s a 5.56x45mm NATO. Which is the basic caliber for most modern military rifles
- So fun fact about this! It’s a selective fire rifle. MEANING. It could fire in semi auto or full auto
-I believe it was also featured in a Solid Snake game- it had nothing to do with the lore but due to the FAMAS being kinda Bulky, it was easy to put into the game at the time [I don’t remember the game but it was pretty old.]
• The P90
-The FN P90, often referred to simply as the "P90," is a compact submachine gun designed and manufactured by the Belgian firearms company FN Herstal!!
-CALIBER. The Caliber is a 5.7x28mm. It has low recoil but good penetration capabilities.
-the P90 Is another BULLPUP. I like bullpups- anyways. Like I said, the magazine is behind the trigger which helps for a shorter overall length while maintaining a longer barrel, which can improve accuracy and muzzle velocity.
-It's also another selective firing, so it could so semi or full auto and I find it so AMAZING
-IT CAN ALSO BE configured for left-handed use, thanks to its ambidextrous design. The P90 features controls and features that accommodate both left-handed and right-handed shooters. AHHHHHH.
-The Iron sights on a P90 are so deliciously beautiful. I just. I love.
• The Winchester 1873 Lever Action Rifle
-So this was introduced in 1983, given by the name, and was instantly a success due to its innovative design, versatility, and reliability. It was designed by John Browning, who would later become one of the most influential firearm designers in history!! AAAHHH!!
-The rifle was originally chambered for the .44-40 Winchester cartridge, which was a popular and versatile round that could be used for both rifles and handguns- although, later it was changed. sighs
-The 1873 was equipped with a rear ladder-style sight, which was adjustable for elevation gdhjkfgdsfjgdsfdsh
-So!! Its often associated with the American frontier and is deeply rooted in the history of the Wild West. Its introduction marked a significant advancement in firearms technology dhfhfkhf
YOU GUYS PROBABLY DONT KNOW A SINGLE THING I SAID BUT I PROMISE IT'S INTERESTING FDHJFGFKFHJFG
I LOVE GUNS AHHHHHHHHH

Viper Commandos Inbound
Important news for all troopers listening in, and a lot of it! Information from our insiders has it that Super Earth's contracted manufacturers and the Ministry of Science are working on a plethora of new tools and armaments for a supposed elite new division of the Helldivers corps. We were able to learn much about these advances and will explain them in as much detail as possible!
Let's start with the troopers themselves. Although Helldivers appear to be enlisted according to the soon-to-be soldier's physical fitness and loyalty in civilian life, Viper Commandos seem to be taken a step further, pushed to their body's limit during training, and it shows. These Helldivers are more capable of handling the heavy weight of their weapons and pushing off any close-range aggressors than any soldier ever before!
As for the armory, two new firearms are already in mass production. Hearing the pleas of many desperate squad leaders too used to the loss of their squadmates in close-range ambushes, Super Earth will finally be fielding the SG-22 Bushwacker, a compact and stable break-action shotgun with three sawed-off barrels. It can even fire all three shots at once! The other weapon, however, is somewhat of a returning classic. Back in the first Galactic War, Helldivers were often equipped with a carbine variant of that time's Liberator, known as the AR-22C Patriot. Now its descendant, the AR-23A Carbine, will soon be hitting the field. But many already speculate on its true value, as the Helldivers have largely derided most assault rifles issued to them, citing too frequent reloads as being a practical death sentence for those using them. We can only hope the Ministry of Defense takes these complaints into consideration.
Additionally, in apparent recognition of the growing number of Helldivers who value a more precise, methodical, and silent approach to dismantling enemy operations, a sharp, new disposable K-2 Throwing Knife will be issued. Many have already questioned just how disposable these knives are, worrying that they will be so cheaply produced that they will simply shatter upon impact, rendering them impossible to reuse. Others, too, have pointed out the current Helldivers's lack of proper close-range combat training, saying that they will fail to adequately defend themselves in melee combat. These are grim assumptions, but once again, we can only hope for the best outcome.
It also seems Super Earth predicts vital operations to take place in heavily jungled territory soon, as the latest armors, the PH-202 Twigsnapper and PH-9 Predator, are built for it and the heat it brings. Clearly meant for ambushes, this gear is not as comprehensive as most SEAF armor sets, which usually never expose any skin! Along with this new armor is a pair of camouflaged capes, and a surprising development in that SEAF Pelicans, Exosuits, and Hellpods will be outfitted with camouflaged patterns as deemed necessary.
Finally, although we have yet to hear any news on dark fluid, the Ministry of Science has been hard at work, hand in hand with Permacura, on an experimental modification to the infusion delivered by stim needles. A vital resource for all soldiers on the field, stims are expensive to purchase and therefore distributed in limited quantities. Despite its near-magical regenerative and performance-enhancing effects, many Helldivers still die well before running out of stims. To remedy this, the new formula will boost the resilience of the human body, exceeding its own physical limitations in the process. A soldier will be expected to be able to run even faster and survive normally fatal attacks while the effects are ongoing. From what preliminary testing footage has leaked, some of us consider it to be... unnaturally effective.
That's all we have for this segment. We apologize if such a long broadcast is not to your tastes, dear viewers, but they will be few and far between, as the longer we stay on the air, the more likely Super Destroyers can triangulate our position and attempt to intercept us. With that said, we'll be warping to a new, semi-random location soon to share the newest personal order with you.
Give 'em Hell, Divers!

Question for Mr. Werewolf when you have time to get around to it: why the long guns? Is your shot as bad as the Major's?
Oh, these things…
hans thought back to the day he even got these guns, looking down and inspecting them as the machinery clicked and settled with the twist of his wrists. Herr Major once saw Hans firing many a set of arms from the stock in their barracks. As expected, the werewolf wore the same demure expression as each shot rang in beautifully deafening symphony at the target. All perfect shots.
“Oooohohoh! Absolutely splendid show, mein dear Captain~!” Max ushered his entrance with a sing-song praise of his brilliant new specimen. He always liked to imagine the scene around his precious toys as they demonstrated their capabilities. Oh, the bodies that filled the mind of that portly madman were ones very few could sleep to; it happened to be the only suitable lullaby for someone as twisted as the Major…
“Zhough I notice… you seem… bored.”
Ja. Exceptionally so. Captain realized as his body grew stronger by the day with such rigorous training emboldening the already impressive lycan physique he had, modern weaponry felt hollow. Why bother with a bullet what a pair of claws can do just as well? Child’s play.
“Perhaps zhere is a vay ve can remedy zhis. I see you’ve an eye for zhe mauser. Quite a fun one! Compact, fast, zhe vorks! But… simple.” In that same breath, an almost disgustingly long rectangular lockbox was placed upon the table that housed many of the ammunition Hans had run through that day. It was a fine oak polished to an egregious shine, decorated with a fine filigree border that resembled leaves encroaching upon the center. The delicate click of the latches echoed in the range that undeniably brought intrigue to Günsche. “Zhey say zhis kind of artistry is a vaste. But vhen I see a veapon such a zhis, judged by it’s supposed “impracticality”? I zhink of an ancient proverb passed down to many of my generation…”
It was then that Hans glimpsed them. A bulkier set of mausers, definitely meant for a higher caliber. But mein got, those barrels. Almost embarrassingly long as the red velvet interior nested them finely in the case. It took a lot to bring any sort of expression to Hans’ face; this was one of those moments. And it was one of bewilderment. That very moment was when a finger snapped, and a door opened with shambling footsteps. A man, a fellow soldier, tied up behind his back and blindfolded. He was in too much smoldering fear to speak up at this point, and chose to simple scramble through to find some form of exit as his moans of desperation bounced off the rocky brick walls. And major got close, speaking the very phrase that lingered in the moment.
“Unter Blinden ist der Einäugige König…”
Without much hesitation, fearing to consequences of rejection, Hans lifted the unwieldy firearm in his firm grip and aimed. The man was an annoying target— his futile shambling only amplifying the unexpected difficulty of steadying such an awkward gun. Every second that passed, he knew a fire was mustering in Herr Major; it disgusted him, as if Captain was feeding some shameless and carnal fetish for Montana’s bloodlust until the shot finally rang.
And soon it did. The man lay lifeless on the floor, and Major calmly smiled with raised brows and a gesturing hand, inviting the Captain to observe his handiwork.
“Ooof. Armes ding… scraped zhe side of his head. Sure, his brains are finely splattered on zhe ground. But sloppy. Zhe art must be perfected. Keep at it, one-eyed king. You may understand zhat pistol’s beauty just yet!” As he left, Hans had to admit something to himself that bore some truth. Major was right: This gun is an art form. Sure, he missed the mark by a few inches, but it challenged him. Finally, a human instrument that met the standard of his skill and need to refine. And of course, the intimidation factor alone made the many years of weilding these dual Mausers a small victory to draw. So yes, in the beginning, Hans was a terrible shot.
At first.
