hey guys! i just wanted to share some tips on how I became a straight a student. i know grades should not be an obsession but I do think they should matter to a certain extent.

Now your grades should not define who you are but if you want to further your academic career, you came to the right place.

Tip #1: Find motivation and display it! when i was little, my biggest motivation was to make my parents proud. now older, i know that is not the healthy but that did motivate me to a lot of things like focus in school. but yours can be anything! what i like to do is go on pinterest and search up images that motivate me and add all it into a collage. I put this collage as my wallpaper on my computer so i can be reminded of it. you can print it out and frame it too! how to make a vision board! 1. search up motivating photos on pinterest (ex. your dream job, places you want to visit, ect.)

2. then go to canva and arrange them how you want to them.

if you don’t want to make a whole wallpaper, you can make a pinterest board!

Tip #2: Get organized

you cannot be a straight a student if you do not know where your assignments are. you have to have a filing system—you cannot put papers into your bag. if you are not into the big filing folders or “each folder per class”

My filing system is this:

i bring one folder to school: in that folder i keep all my homework from different classes as well as notebook paper.

then i have a 5 subject notebook i take my notes in. i am going to go indept on how i take notes in a later blog post but i rewrite my notes when i get home.

then i have a science, math, and spanish notebook that i keep at home. depending on what classes you need notes it, you can buy a notebook to that class and keep it at home to study with.

Tip #3: Start using a planner

you need to start using a planner! it will save you from missing deadlines and keep you on track. you can use a physical or digital planner—I use both. My digital planner is my study life and for my physical planner i use my bullet journal.

it doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to be efficient and helpful. the purpose of your planner is to be useful and if you don’t use it, then how can you be mad when you miss a deadline?

Tip #4: DO NOT CRAM , instead plan out your review.

I am not going to lie, I do cram from time to time. And sometimes I do a get an amazing grade and sometimes I don’t. But I learned that when I plan my review and space it out, I tend to better. I posted a blog post on how I revise here! But if you plan out your reviews ahead of time, your brain would retain the information longer and process it better.

I use the application Anki to help me review flashcards! Now I got more into depth in my How i revise post but basically Anki plans out what you need to review that day for you. It is completely free on computers!

Tip #5: Set up a distraction free study area (and make it cute so ur inclined to study)

Let’s be honest, if you are not motivated to study somewhere, are you really going to study there? Hence, setting up an aesthetically cute study area! Now, this does not have to be something straight from Pinterest, it could literally be a clean desk with a pencil cup.

But make sure you also have everything you need! Like water or the homework you need to get done (sounds silly but i’ve done it before) This reduces your chances of getting up and getting distracted.

A variety of feelings made the air heavy and thick with a concoction so truthful to the high school experience; frustration, exhaustion, and the underlying scent of yearning.

Few an individual found themselves bragging of the weekend’s extracurricular activities, cackling with an unusual vigor and energy unlike the rest of their near-ghoulish peers. Others were sitting on the ground, rushing through their assignments with adrenaline only just granted to them; oh yes, the heart-stopping experience of forgetting that there was homework.

Fortunately, you’d hadn’t found yourself in that predicament this morning, having thoroughly done your homework on Friday night. Best to do it then push it off and forget it; your own philosophy. You keep your attention focused on your notebook for the beginning as classmates make their way in, sitting in various spots around the room and leaving you by yourself. Booted footfalls make their dreaded way over to you, finding themselves seated to your right. Sudden fear prickles your skin, suddenly making the room too warm and too cold at once while your shoulders tense. For the love of god, be anyone, anyone other than who you thought it was.

You tense further, shaking your head as you unconsciously lean further into the empty space you have right.

“S’funny...swear I saw you givin’ it to Trashmouth ‘fore class started,” The seats to your front and back were occupied by others, quite possibly remaining individuals who found an alliance with Henry. “Always thought’ch’re a good girl...be a shame if someone fucked that up for y’huh?”

Blackmail? That didn’t really seem like his style, then again it didn’t quite seem like you were being offered a choice of any kind - especially if he had the man power of his goons with him.

“So what’s it gonna be, huh? We ain’t got much time,” his voice transcribed his annoyance as your mulling was cut short, sliding the paper into his vision as he diligently scribbled the answers down. Across the room you caught the eye of Richie, quickly looking away in shame. You nearly miss the amused “s’what I thought,” murmured from Henry as he finishes the work quickly, shoving your desk with a bark of laughter.

The class continues on with its usually snail-like pace, much to your dismay as you keep your eyes locked on either the clock or your notebook. In front of you sat Belch Huggins, likely to his own humor since you were no longer able to see the board, and to your back sat Victor Criss who was able to sneak in an early nap. Through the paperballs being spat at or thrown at you from your right, you couldn’t help but feel that this was in some way better than having Patrick sit nearest to you - even if he was still creepily staring into your shoulder from behind Henry with what you could only guess was that irking grin. God forbid it was his expressionless face, that churned nervousness in your gut.

The bell rang once again overhead, signaling your freedom to the library as you scrambled to gather your things and rush passed before you had the chance to get cornered. Dumping what you had in your hands in your locker - you figured it would be for later you to organize - you did your best to scamper to the library unseen.

It seemed to have worked for the most part, aside from the bemused glances you garnered from teachers. Only momentary, they shrugged it off as you being a good kid in a hurry. As you entered the vicinity, you released another sigh of relief. If there was one thing you knew, it was that Henry Bowers wouldn’t be caught dead in a library. You didn’t really worry about his friends either, they were probably busy giving some unfortunate soul a swirlie, or whatever.

“Always on time, aren’t you?” The librarian, Ms. Andrews, rhetorical question was met with a beaming smile from you. “I’ve written things down for you to do, I’ll be in and out today helping the bookkeeper in the office.”

Through the Looking Glass [Unedited]

Quen inspected himself in the glowing mirror, knowing that the reflection was truly his own. He stood at 5 foot 8; a bit short, but he didn't mind. His ochre skin was clear and his hair was cut into a clean blowout. Apparently that was popular back in the 20's. His amber-colored eyes gleamed back at him, tarnished only by the dark circles underneath. Many of his acquaintances had gotten rid of theirs, but he liked how it made him feel human. 

When he was finished getting ready for the day, he stepped into the hall and made his way to one of his family's augmented reality chambers, or ARCs for short. When he reached the door, he took out his personal ID and held it in front of a small screen next to the door. It beeped once before flickering to life.

"Quenton Jarod Harris, Junior attending Paulson R. Stewart High. Would you like to begin Classes for the day?" it asked in a robotic voice.

"Yes," he replied.

"Creating Scenario… Connecting to server… Finalizing… Start-up complete. Have a good day, Quenton Harris."

He swung the door open and was met by a bustling school hallway. Dozens of beautiful faces were chatting with each other, walking past each other, and scrambling to finish assignments that should've been done the night before. He let the door creak shut behind him and it disappeared into the wall. He hadn't taken two steps before the robotic voice was back. 

"Message received. Sender : Juulia Brewer. Would you like to open the message?" Quen let out a heavy breath as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He regretted having skipped coffee this morning. The system repeated itself, "Would you like to open the message?"

"Yes."

An opaque, digital, blue message box appeared before him. As he walked, it stayed in the same position, phasing through classmates as he went, but they didn't flinch. To be fair, they couldn't even see it on their side.

Quen rolled his eyes at the emotes. Juuls had an obsession with "Millennial Texting", as she called it. In fact, she was kind of a nerd for it. She was the only one that had taken an interest in that era. American History classes taught them that the first 30 years of the century were dark times, but somehow Juulia managed to find light in them.

He reached out and pressed the X in the top right corner of the message box, causing it to blink away. "Hey, Google?" he called. 

"What can I help with?"

"Teleport me to the Cafeteria."

"Sure. Now teleporting Quenton Harris to the cafeteria."

The noises and sight of the hallway faded into a blue void. Here, it was relaxing. Here, he could breathe easy. And just like that, it was gone. The void transformed into the cafe and the garbled mess of voices was back.

He scanned the faces before him one by one, trying to discern his friend in the sea of Glowing radiance. On the days that he had to use ARC, it was always significantly harder to recognize Juulia. With ever-changing hair colors and styles, vast varieties of makeup, and feature correction, the only way he could tell the difference was when their name appeared in front of them when he met their gaze. 

A girl sitting a few tables down stood up and began to wave her arm around; he didn't have to see her to know it was Juuls. Disregarding the built-in recognition program, the greeting was a dead giveaway. She did this almost every morning, whether in person or through ARC.

He made his way through the crowd, literally. Instead of bumping shoulders with people, their holograms simply phased through him. The chamber, however, did produce realistic copies of inanimate objects. He plopped down on the nanobit replica of a bench at his school's lunch table.

"What's up?" he asked.

"Oh. Em. Eff. Gee. You literally took forever, lol," Juulia replied. A couple students around the two of them glanced their direction, giving them odd looks.

"Proximity chat," Quen reminded her. He took a moment to adapt to her new look. He assumed that she had been trying to look like one of those 'E-girls' that she was always on about. With neon pink hair, a beanie, and dark makeup, she looked completely different than she did yesterday.

"Oof. They just don't have good taste. The 20's were so… Lit."

"That's new."

"What? Lit? It just means, like, cool, but better."

"You're so weird."

"Pog."

And with that, the bell rang. Immediately, he was sucked back into the loading void briefly before being spit out into his first class of the day. He took his seat as the teacher appeared in the room. She was beautiful and could pass for 25, though she was actually 20 years older.

"Alright everyone, sit down please. Today, we'll be talking about why we're here. We all know that the early years were just about as bad as they could get. But they had some major influence on how things work in modern day."

Juulia would be bouncing off of the walls if she were here right now. Fortunately, she didn't have this class until after lunch. He was spared of her over-enthusiasm for now.

"Did you know that ARC was developed a few years after the events of the Covid 19 pandemic? It took a while, but when it was released to the public it was an instant success. Can you believe they used to hold classes through video chats on a computer?"

A hand in the back went up. The teacher motioned towards the student, urging her to ask her question. "What's a computer?" It seemed that everyone had been wondering the same thing, Quen included, because they all shifted their vision from the student to the teacher.

The teacher chuckled. "It was a large device that used to be kept on desks before technology was integrated into Glass."

"They only had technology on the 'computer'?" another student asked.

"I mean, they had other forms of technology. They had smart watches, smartphones, smart TVs… But most of their time connected to the internet was spent on a computer or on the smartphone, which is what we now call our Shard."

Quen had to admit, everything about the early 21st century was something else. But where it intrigued Juuls, it brought up a bad taste for him. To him, it was just the beginning of the death of authenticity.

After what felt like hours of droning, the class was finally wrapping up. Google's voice broke him from his thoughts. "Message received. Sender : Crystalinne Harris. Message saved for later."

"I've sent an assignment reminder to all of you. Your homework is a 500 word essay on what 'Facebook' was before it created Glass."

He scoffed at the assignment before the next bell rang, whisking him off to his second class. 

When the final bell of the day rang, the low hum enveloping him whirred into silence as ARC powered down. Without the machine running, he stood in a room made up of nanobits. The tiny metal balls made up the walls, floor, ceiling, and even this side of the door. All of them worked to create the illusion of being in an actual school, when in reality, he'd been inside a room no more than 10 feet wide and 10 feet long all day.

He stepped out of the chamber and made his way into the kitchen, where he was met by his mother and father. "How was school today?" She asked. His father pulled a latte from the Keurig and sipped it as he waited for a response.

"It was alright. Just another day," he replied, "Dinner smells good."

"Oh, yeah. They delivered lemon pepper steak and asparagus today. All of our portions are already in the oven."

"That's… Lit," he said, a smug sense of pride flickering within.

"That's funny, son. Haven't heard that since Gran was alive. Get that from, what's her name? Jessica?" 

"Juulia. Yeah." His father's beard was getting shaggy, he noticed. Since he had started using Glass, he had been letting it grow out. Seemingly, it didn't bother him much any more. His father had been adamant about leaving Glass alone for most of his life and had taught him to do the same, but when Grey hairs began to appear, he decided to finally give in.

Honestly, he wasn't surprised. Glass was wildly popular internationally. It had originally been bought out by the American government in 2040, probably for facial tracking, and integrated into every single building since then. It was everywhere. He and his dad were two of only six or seven people that he knew of that didn't use it. But now, he couldn't even say that.

After dinner, he had decided to take a hot shower. The water on his skin felt nice and he let the steam relax his muscles. When he finished, he dried off and wrapped his towel around his waist. Stepping in front of the mirror, a pleasant chime sounded.

"Glass activated," a voice with a programmed British accent sounded through the surrounding speakers. The edges of the mirror lit with a white backlight and menus appeared on the screen in glowing, white letters. A box formed around his face, his name appearing above it. "User : Quenton Harris detected. Set nickname : Quen."

He began to comb his hair into place when the voice rang out, "Quen, would you like to use the Autofix function?" A white bar highlighted the "Autofix" option on the menu. 

"No," He replied sternly. 

He finished with his hair and quickly brushed his teeth. When he smiled so that he could check them, the voice came again, "Light enamel stains detected. Would you like to use the Autofix function?"

"No."

It was irritating to hear it trying to coerce him into using it, knowing that it used that method to get so many people addicted to it. He simply shook his head. That's how it starts. A quick fix here, a minor upgrade there…

He pulled on a sleep shirt and some sweatpants, tossed his towel into the laundry chute, and headed for his room. He needed to write his essay and get some rest for the next day. It would be Tuesday, which meant live classes. 

Quen's alarm beeped, rousing him from his slumber. He sat up in bed and stretched, before lowering himself to the floor. "1, 2, 3, 4…" he counted the sit-ups in his head as he started his quick morning workout routine. He had always been physically active. Staying healthy had been a big goal for him. The way things were now, even with the best Healthcare, people hardly ever made it past their 50's. He wouldn't let himself be a victim of the system.

50 sit-ups, crunches, and push ups later, he stood up. Began getting dressed for the day. A white button up and a tie, he wanted to look nice. Of course, Glass attempted to goad him into Autofixing himself, and just like every other day, he had none of it. 

Finally, he felt confident. He was ready for the day. He grabbed his backpack from the back of his desk chair after ensuring that his report on Facebook was packed. Since he was heading out of the house, he also snagged his Shard from the charging pad and shoved it into the pocket of his black jeans.

He strode down his driveway and stopped next to his mailbox. After a few minutes, a large, white bus with no windows arrived. He climbed in and heard a chime over the bus' speakers. The British voice spoke, "Quenton Harris has boarded."

He made his way to an empty seat and plopped down. The first thing he noticed, like always, was the smell. An amalgam of body odors swirled around the cramped space, making him sick to his stomach.

Inside the bus, you could see the surroundings on the installed Glass screens, almost like windows. He turned his focus to the passing buildings as he tried to block out the horrendous scent surrounding him. He was one of the last stops, so he wouldn't have to endure it for very long. He slid his Shard out of his pocket and began to read the day's headlines. The war overseas was still raging on, as expected. The weekly universal paycheck rate was 31 dollars more than the last. And another round of the Meta-Vaccine was going to be made available before fall, hopefully to prevent as many infections as possible.

The bus rolled to a stop in front of the real Paulson R. Stewart High. When the doors creaked open, the automated voice announced that it was time to evacuate. He passed by the empty driver's seat and stepped out onto the curb, letting fresh air flow into his lungs. For the first time since last Thursday, he smiled.

Quen enjoyed the few moments he had in the outdoors as he strode to the entrance. Biding his time, he held the door open for other students. Unfortunately, he knew he had to go in.

He stepped into the real hallway, which looked almost exactly the same as it did in the ARC replica. There were three main differences. First, the smell. Just like on the bus, it was everywhere. It absorbed every crevice, every corner. It was disgusting. As much as it bothered him, no one else seemed to mind.

Second, the students he saw today were nothing like the ones that had been in his simulation yesterday. Where beautiful faces surrounded him before, he was now engulfed in a sea of low effort. Hair was frizzy, tangled, and out of place. Clothes were wrinkled and stained. And the worst, it was obvious that most of his classmates didn't take care of themselves. They were supposed to reach the peak of their physicality at ages 16 through 18. If this is what "peak" looked like, he understood why the average life expectancy was decreasing.

Third, Glass was everywhere. It made up all of the windows, all of the mirrors, and even lined the walls in some places. It kept track of each student as they navigated the hallways. The 'Assistant' feature was turned off, which meant no obnoxious voice trying to pressure him into anything, but it still worked it's magic in the reflections. Each user's Autofix settings synced up with every Glass that was linked to the system, which was - legally - all of them.

It disgusted him, the way people walked around, acting all high and mighty. Just because they never had to see their true selves didn't mean that no one would. The problem was, they didn't care. After graduation, They would be assigned a home, a mate, and a job. And after that, the only ones that would have to see them would be their direct family. All other interactions would be carried out in ARC, which had a partnership with Glass.

These moments, here, in Paulson R. Stewart High, were the last bits of his fleeting reality. Someone bumped into his shoulder, causing him to stumble out of the way. A bigger guy wearing a pair of eyeGlass gave him a strange look. "Sorry, man. Hard to tell the days apart," his apology sounded genuine, "Your fix looks nice."

"Don't worry about it. And thanks, but it's not an Autofix," Quen replied. The guy chuckled for a moment before tilting his head down to peek over his eyeGlass.

"No kidding. Well, good for you, man. Between you and me, they really need to get it together," he said, looking over the crowd. He shifted his gaze back to Quen, "Compared to us, they look pretty rough."

The sad thing was, he probably hadn't seen his true self in years. "Yeah, man. Well, see you around." Quen left him behind and began walking towards the cafeteria. There was only one person he wanted to talk to.

An arm linked through his, and through a haze of vanilla scented perfume, a familiar voice chimed, "Bruh, you got here earlier than me today. That's wack." He didn't have to look to know who it was. When he turned to her, he was engulfed by her radiance. She was authentic. She was real.

This insane 2020 is coming to an end...

Well, as the title says, this insane year is coming to an end. I am sitting at my compadres’ kitchen in Tequisquiapan, Querétaro. This is always such an amazing place.

What else is there to say about 2020? It has taught me that there’s no such thing as normal, or stability, or assurance. No amount of planning would have given any of us the tools or means to face what we did this year: COVID-19.

What did I learn? I learned that you can’t give anything for granted. I also learned that being healthy is your biggest asset. This whole situation has taught me that without health, you have nothing --once again. I also learned that one of the most valuable skills you can have or develop is adaptability. Being flexible during these crazy and uncertain times is absolutely key to your sanity. If you can’t go with the flow, life will be hard. Super hard. Because this is still not over...

I now work at a private healthcare system in Mexico (more on that later!) and my first day at work was March 17th... the day COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in Mexico --just 6 days after it was declared a global pandemic on 3/11/20 by the WHO. Not only I moved to a different country for work, but I also started working at a healthcare system, at a hospital, the day COVID-19 was declared a sanitary emergency in the country. It was nothing short of crazy. Nobody really knew what was going on, and we had to make the best with what we had.

I have the utmost respect for medical and clinical personnel: nurses and doctors. Without them, this would have been a lot worse. Putting themselves in the frontline, facing sickness and death in the eye for days and days, weeks, months, now almost a year. They are nothing short of heroes.

I also confirmed the deep inequality we all live in... With schools moving to online classes, it is crazy to think that not everyone has access to the means (internet access, computers, a warm home and meal, adults who can help) to get online education during the pandemic. It has been such a botched execution, leaving a lot of people behind, both in the virtual classroom and outside of it.

Online education has brought so much more work for working parents. And I see it at home myself. Mom has the fortune of spending time at home with the kids, assisting on technical issues when they happen, preparing meals and snacks, entertaining during breaks, helping out with homeworks and assignments. I come back from work and I have dinner, and then it’s homeworks and tutoring, going through the things that didn’t make sense during the day, etc. Unfortunately, not every kid out there has these advantages that we’re lucky to have...

In the richest country in the world, we’ve normalized the shortcomings in healthcare and education and feel warm hearts with stories of charity and giving from goodhearted people. Hopefully that will change with the Orange Buffoon out of the WH next month.

2020 is such a lost year, and I am not sure if all students will recover from it fully. The academic and emotional tolls seem steep, and the path to recovery hard. Online classes don’t work for everyone, and even though teachers have done the best they can, it has not been enough. And it is not because of a lack of effort or work, but the lack of vision on how to deliver effective education over the Internet long term. Something needs to change, because if students are not learning online the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn --in addition to the infrastructure challenges, of course.

Help your local school. Donate your old computer or tablet to an organization that could put it to use for underserved kids. Donate your time as a tutor, prepare meals for underserved kids who rely on the lunches that schools serve --and are not available now. There’s so much left to do. And with the little help and support from the Government, things are not easy at all.

Now... After 23 years, I left the USA. In a COVID year, when nobody knew what was going to happen, I decided to accept a job at my alma mater. I became the CIO for the academic healthcare division of Tec de Monterrey, TecSalud. I took this job for a number of reasons... 

Coming back to Mexico after such a long time is something I always had in mind. I just didn’t know when it was going to happen... but one thing I knew: it would be for a great opportunity.

I have the opportunity to make a dent (or move the needle!) on the healthcare system in Mexico, both public and private. This is so encouraging.

Part of the benefits included scholarships for all my kids, high school through college, under the best private education system in Mexico (and possibly Latin America)! This sealed the deal for me. It is INSANE how expensive quality education is anywhere. In the US, it is a luxury destined for just some... and it’s a fallacy to think “Well, if you work hard enough...” because it is not always true. I’ve met plenty of people who work their butts off, but the systemic poverty that runs the show prevents them from moving up and prospering. This is a reality. What better gift to my kids than extraordinary education with ZERO debt. Right out of the gate they will not have that burden that chokes most of the people who graduate for years and years. This also helps me save for my “golden years”... HA! But it’s true !!!

I’m giving my kids the chance to experience living in a different country. They will be able to see, with a different lens, what life outside the US. Even though they were not foreign to Mexico or some of its customs, living here will give them a better understanding of how the world works. And then, they will have choices! And having choices is the most wonderful thing.

Adjusting has been hard, for everyone. It started from the moment we told the kids we were moving to Mexico. My older kids took it really hard and suffered a lot prior to coming to Mexico, while the youngest one came here like nothing was going on. Little kids are so adaptable, and it’s when we grow up that we get attached to things, places, people. Detachment is such a valuable skill as well.

My kids never had Spanish as a subject. Sure, we speak Spanish at home and they loosely speak it and understand it. But coming to Mexico, even though they are in a bilingual school, has posed problems with all the grammar and spelling rules. I’ve had to dust off some of my Spanish grammar and spelling rules to help them with homeworks and assignments. They get frustrated, but we’ll pull through.

Monterrey is not a bad city at all. It is very Americanized, most private schools are bilingual, a lot of people speak English, there’s a level of diversity since a lot of international companies have offices here, theres AWESOME food, people are friendly and VERY hardworking and entrepreneurial. Unfortunately, with this COVID nonsense, it’s been hard to explore and get to know it more. But we’ll be patient. And play the best game we can with the cards we’ve been dealt.

We have made great progress, but COVID has made everything harder and longer...

For the first time in all my Tumblr writing, I’ll end this chronicle tomorrow, 1/1/21. Why? because I’m just having a good time with close family and I don’t want to miss it... Come tomorrow and check out the rest of the chronicle... what went well, what didn’t.

Happy 2021 !!! Ok... It’s 1/10 and I now can sit here and finish this up...

Travel? In 2020? HA! Nothing. Traveling stood to a standstill this past year. It is crazy to read and hear what is going on with the world and COVID --and again, it has not ended yet.

Travel bans, travel restrictions, curfews and shutdowns. It has been so hard. I have international friends, and Europe was one of the hardest-hit places, specially Italy. Weeks and weeks would go by and people hunkered down and hoped for the best. There’s a video I love, and it came out of Italy. The singer encouraged Italians to sing along and send their clips, and the result is beautiful. You get to see normal people doing normal (and not so normal!) things at home during lockdown. You can see how there’s hope, family, friends, creativity, laughter, tears. It’s all there. And this vehicle allowed for a lot of people to just explode. 

You would think that I would have read a lot during a lockdown and a pandemic, right? Well, that did not happen... I read some, but not as I feel I should:

The One. This book is really good! It tells a story in the future, where people are matched genetically to their “one and only”. There’s no more wasting time in other relationships because you will eventually end up with your one.

Malorie. This is the second part to “Bird Box”, that book that I liked a lot. This second book, maybe the conclusion, is not as good as the first one, but it’s really good nonetheless. Malorie is older, and so are the kids. And they are out there again to find a way to live with “the things” that are out there. In a way, it rung similar to what was happening with COVID. It was a matter of understanding, and accepting.

The Ride of a Lifetime. This was an outstanding book, really. It’s the story of Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney. By now you know that I adore these types of books and am a sucker for characters such as him and the companies they founded or work for. This book is an excellent management guide and I’m sure it will serve me well on my new role here. If you’re into this type of reading, I highly recommend it.

And that’s that... unfortunately. I realized that I got so distracted with news and blogs about what was happening with COVID around the world. Additionally, the Elections in the US took a lot of my attention... I’ve pledged to read 12 books this year, so let’s see how that will work out. I’m currently reading The Long Walk. So far so good.

I kept myself healthy and within weight! Considering the pandemic, where boredom eating was rampant, I consider myself lucky of not gaining pretty much any weight. I also had my yearly physical in October, and let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised about the outcome!

Pretty much all my metrics came out really good! The only thing, as usual, was to drop some weight and continue to eat well. I have to say that my blood glucose was keeping me up at night and since I was at a pre-diabetic stage, it was urgent to me to do something about it.

I cut most carbs to a bare minimum. My sweets, sugars, rice, bread, pasta intakes were reduced to basically none (I’d still eat but every once in a while). I started eating more protein, but could not fully move away from tortillas (corn). I now eat blue corn tortillas, which have a lower glycemic index.

I also started taking Berberine and Cinnamon. I have to say that my blood glucose went down to normal levels (my AC1 was 6.1 a year ago, it is 5.3 now!). I personally think it was a combination of factors: cutting starches and carbs and the supplements mentioned above. Again, I am not claiming they were THE reason why my blood sugar went down, but the Dr said I should continue to do what I’ve been doing to keep it down. So, I’ll continue taking it! I’ve also thought that food in Mexico is a lot less processed than it is back in the US. Did that play a part? Probably...

For 2021, the goal is to continue to eat well, take care of myself and really jumpstart some exercise routine.

I don’t want to make this any longer... May 2021 suck a lot less than 2020 did. We’ll catch up later, from Mexico !!!
